Ate at Joe's local Orem joint. Even though I ate entrees and can judge based on that but I have to say 5 stars just for having a great tasting Grits. First time I had a sweet variation of grits and boy it was addictive. Buttery, Sweet, and just satisfying. I think I had a moment of nostalgia from my elementary school days where the cafeteria lady scooped a pile of chunky grits and as a child we put piles of granulated sugar to add some flavor. Well Joe's doesn't serve chunky nasty school grits. They serve just the opposite. Smooth, buttery, and sweet. Damn it was good. Don't get me wrong. The other items on my dish was good as well but the grits was the star and will draw me back. Bacon was premium and you can taste the love in the food. The best part was we got to me the cook. I believe his name was Dave or David. Asked me how things were and I mentioned my love of the grits and you could just tell he took pride. Oh yah Chilis is darn good too. Only wish they served fries. Cruising through Utah one would not expect to find one of those Homestyle dinners. I will stand corrected! This time we are a party of 4 and one of our party members who is a local said we have to go to Joes Café' before we leave. Park in the back, and enter through the back. There is indoor or outdoor dining, at your pleasure. Entrée's: 3 Eggs (Three Eggs over Medium, three Sausage & Grits) - Now the menu says your three eggs are scrambled, but if you ask Joe nicely, you can order them any way you like. I like my eggs over-medium, so I can plop them on a piece of toast and make egg-on-toast with one of them and use the other two for the mixing with the hash-browns. But this time I went with the Grits. I chose wisely in requesting a "Bowl" of Grits, instead of the cup size. Those Grits are amazing!!! If you grew up in or around a Southern Household, you have had Grits. This will take you back to the day,... as they are pure perfection. Once served, you can work them up any way you please,... Throw some cheese and an egg in there or you can doll them up with a little extra butter and maple syrup, or just eat them plain,... Again, perfect any way you have them. Joe is now Family! Denver Omelet - Imagine French fluffy eggs, made as an omelet and wrapping it around some of the freshest vegetables to be had. I have rarely come across someone who could cook vegetables in an omelet, yet keep them crunchy, while still having a sautéed flavor. That takes skill and timing. Once again, Joe killed it! Biscuits and Gravy with Eggs - That sausage gravy!!! Does it come in an IV Bag, Joe? Because that is some main-line Southern Goodness! It has been a long time since I have had breakfast items this good. Others try, but when it is in their blood to cook that way, you can't go wrong. The Biscuits are light and fluffy with just enough heft to handle a ladle of gravy, with no problem. Break the egg yolk over the top and you have entered a new level of heaven. Imagine, I had to travel to Orem Utah, to find such awesome food. The staff is very inviting and attentive to ones needs. They even have Louisiana Hot Sause,... Need I say more! I love Joe's Cafe! The owner (Joe) is one of the friendliest people you'll meet--though Saturday was my first visit here, he made me feel like a regular with his jokes and energetic personality. The food is amazing, especially the pancakes, which are swimming in butter and are great to eat by yourself or split amongst a group (for a little extra to your meals). I loved the fruit-topped waffle as well. Currently, there is no indoor seating, as it would be difficult to have seated customers social distances from those in line to order and those in line to pay. Joe's has a handful of outdoor tables, all of which have umbrellas, but be prepared for some sun if you come here for brunch. read more

We were visiting the area and looking for a good breakfast spot so we came across Joes Cafe. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly by a kind gentleman (after observing him interact with other guests, I determined he was THE Joe). Such a great host to my kids and I, he offered them some of Joe's Special Juice which was so delicious that I ordered one for myself. The food was SUPER quick and DELICIOUS! I've never tasted pancakes like this - you didn't need syrup or any topping as they were so moist. Portion sizes were huge - I'm slightly embarrassed I almost ate the entire plate of pancakes but they were THAT GOOD! The staff was very attentive and Joe checked on us when we finished and gifted my kids wooden cars - they felt like VIPS! We loved Joe's Cafe, definitely stop by to check it out! read more

This place is one that you will wish was closer to home. We were traveling through and stopped to give it a try. The service was GREAT and the food was AMAZING. Joe's wife stopped and talked to us and the cook came out to see how our food was, he asked why no one ordered grits my kids have never had grits the cook brought us a small bowl to try, we all instantly regretted not ordering grits!! Delicious!! We got the biscuits and gravy, Belgian waffle, hash browns, eggs and bacon. And it was all so good!! We only had to wait 25 minutes for a Saturday morning. The owners and the staff were very attentive. It was our first time there and we will definitely be going back. read more

I was craving a Great Breakfast. I wanted to try a new local place and Yelp found me Joes. We walked in and it felt as though we were Catapulted to a small cafe in the South in the 1940's. The specials are Biscuits and Gravy and Sweet Grits. I have never loved Grits or Biscuits and Gravy but my husband does. They came out in a giant bowl. They smelled so good and with each bite my husband threw back his head said mmmmmm with his eyes closed. I could have been kidnapped and he wouldn't have notified I was missing for most of the meal. I ordered Bacon that was so thick, so greasy and so yummy. I had them put onions and cheese on my Hash Browns. Yes I'm basic but it was delicious. Suddenly the Cook came over and brought us a bowl of Grits. He was so offended that we didn't order any but insisted we try them. I have had Grits in other places and to me they taste like nothing. Well not at Joes. They had sugar and syrups made as part of them. They were so smooth and it's all I could do to not just pick up the bowl and lick it. It seemed like a small spoon was taking to long to get to my lips. So hear me now. If you order nothing else get the Grits. It's truly a Family run Business. Joe got the day off but his beautiful wife and Daughter gave us the best service. They realized we had never been there before so in the nicest way possible they asked lots of questions about us. Soon we were part of the family. The tables are the Formica steel wrapped kind. The chairs were help together with Duct Tape. I get it though those dining sets are hard to find. Take me back in time anytime Joe and Family I can't wait to get back and broaden my horizons. Don't go in a Saturday. They said the wait is always about two hours. They are only open from 8 am until 2 pm so note that get up early and have your belly forever changed. read more

Genuinely the one breakfast spot I can always count on recommending to people coming to town. The Belgian waffles, juice, and GRITS are divine. Please get the grits. Joe is lovely and loves what he does. I've been coming for years, and even recognize some of the same servers which means it must be a great place to be! What an experience! Park around back and come inside to a wall full of happy customer photos! The atmosphere is very laid back and casual. Tables seat 4, but you could push two together for a larger party. We were instantly welcomed by Joe and made ourselves comfortable after grabbing a high chair for our baby. Almost right after we sat down, the staff brought out a plate of silver dollar pancakes with strawberries for our boys! It was so sweet! As if that wasn't enough, they later brought out more pancakes when they finished the first batch, a bowl of grits and some chocolate milk, all on the house. When my two year old spilled a cup of water all over the table and floor, they were quick to come mop it all up and made us feel like it wasn't a big deal. Everyone was so kind, friendly and extra helpful. The hospitality alone here is worth five, maybe six stars! The food unfortunately is where the experience started to lack. The pros were the big portion sizes and we didn't have to wait too long. Cons were the prices were very steep for any add ons, which we didn't realize until after we paid the bill (you don't see an itemized bill until after you pay) such as 3.58 for eggs and 1.50 per fruit on top of pancakes. They forgot to add blueberries to my waffle but I didn't mind until I realized I paid that much for them. I ordered my eggs over easy and they were a little undercooked (whites were still runny). The best parts of our meal were the biscuits and gravy, (mostly gravy, not a ton of biscuit) and the waffle which was fluffy, buttery and tasty! I think if they tightened up on flavors and cooking technique, this restaurant would beat any brunch spot in town. Keep up the good hospitality Joe's! We felt so welcomed our entire time there. read more

I've been coming to Joe's for years. Can't believe I've never done a review. The grits are to die for. I repeat the grits are to die for. The Joe's omelette ticks all the boxes for me. Do you want a great breakfast at a decent price with a really good service? This is the place for you. If you're offended by rickety tables, a kinda cramped space, or 40,000 pictures on the walls. For the life of me I cannot understand how a restaurant like this has as many alluring reviews as it does. Could I have gone on an off day? Yes. But in my humble opinion the food was below average. I can't believe I was wishing for country gravy from an instant packet instead of whatever I ate this day. You come for the cafe, but you want to stay for Joe and his team. If that isn't the definition of a classic, southern hospitality-style diner, I don't know what is. Now, this hospitality was really brought to light when we walked in with a party of 9 including 3 small kids, and they didn't even bat an eye as they welcomed us in with a smile. Joe himself made sure we had everything we needed and were taken care of. Not a bad start! As far as the menu goes, it's your classic diner breakfast fare. Silver dollar pancakes, french toast, omelettes, and the sort. We got our food very quickly for how much we ordered, which all came out perfect! I loved my omelette (I added jalapenos and they did not skimp on the fillings) and hashbrowns. My husband got the French toast which was also very good. Everything from bacon to eggs were cooked well. Normally simple breakfast foods don't get a 5-star review from me, but I swear you can taste the love put into it and that makes all the difference. As we were heading out, Joe made sure to tell us how much he enjoyed having us, inviting us to come again. Even the staff were working together very well and spreading the same love as we wrapped up. I tell ya, I almost didn't want to leave! So I guess the only thing left to do is keep coming back for some of that good ol' southern hospitality and comforting food. We got here in between the rushes, thank goodness (about 9am). The owner is quite the character. Tiny little place with a great staff. We got an order of pancakes and some biscuits and gravy. We loved the pancakes but I did not like the biscuits and gravy, unfortunately. The flavor was off for me. Darn it. Worth a shot though. Guys you gotta try this place if you're in Orem/Provo! The biggest servings were given to us and the service was an A+! Owner came out and talked to us and whoever was around and overall it just felt like a nice family owned business. She was incredibly patient, friendly, and helpful while getting us seated, which made the whole experience even better. The food was great, the ambience was really nice and relaxing, and the service made us feel very welcome. We'll definitely be coming back again
