I got a shirt from a friend from Joe josts a while ago and have been wanting to try it since then. Heard a lot of good things especially that the prices are decent. I was in the neighborhood to do a smog test across the street and decided to go in and try their stuff. We got pickled eggs and a Joe sandwich. Very decent pricing and the food was great. Didn't have time to try it with a light beer which would have been perfect but will do that next time. Great service and cool ambiance. Will definitely come back but will remember to bring cash as they are cash only. Way to go Joe Jost's!!

Cash only, good cold beer, sports on TV. Get yourself a sandwich and enjoy the natural light coming in through the roof. Good vibes!

We came back to Long Beach for a quick vacay and stopped in for a Joe's special. It was just as good as I remembered and the pickled egg was divine. I hope that the new owner doesn't change the ambiance or the decor.

My first review of 2026 is going to this Long Beach institution and honestly, I have no idea why it's taken me this long to give this LB treasure the five stars it deserves. First of all, the most refreshing and satisfying beer you'll ever enjoy will be here. Even the most basic of beers taste better here because they're so ice cold! A Michelob Ultra tastes like a million bucks here! The sandwiches are pretty basic but super tasty and so cheap, your grandfather will recognize the prices from his youth. I alternate between the egg salad and salami. If you're trying to cut bread out, ask them for a charcuterie board, which is just sliced up meats, pickled egg, and some peppers. Not every bartender here will recognize this by that name but just explaine it. All the employees here are super friendly, providing a space that is for ALL of Long Beach. The atmosphere is very much a neighborhood bar and you'll seldom find the space to not be busy. Joe Jost's, which recently turned 100 years old, is under new ownership that promises to keep everything the same. I hope this is true because I'm such a fanboy, that half my wardrobe has been purchased here. Remember they're CASH ONLY, which usually annoys me but they're epic enough to pull it off.

Obviously this place doesn't need hyping up. But, I have to tell you...the GM and the rest of the staff are SO welcoming. We visited on a Saturday at noon. There was ample parking. The bar was packed. There is additional seating in the back room where the pool tables and jukebox are. We got lucky with seating, because 2 seats opened up at the bar just as we walked in. My hubby and I recommend their "special". Polish sausage made from their family's own blend of spices, slice of swiss cheese and pickle, mustard on rye bread. Pair that with a schooner and it's a simple, but tasty lunch. We didn't try the pickled eggs, peanuts or pretzels, but we'll be back! We've lived in LB just short of a year, and it's taken us this long to get here. We're so glad we stopped by!

Date of Visit: March 26 around 3:25 PM I've been craving Joe Jost's pickled eggs for a while now and finally made the trip today but unfortunately, I left pretty disappointed. The customer service was decent. The bartender was semi-friendly and helpful. They were out of the jarred eggs (not a big deal), so he packed some up for me to go. But then things took a turn. I noticed cockroaches running around behind the bar near the pricing menu. I mentioned it to the bartender, and another staff member came over and killed one but then I saw a few more. At that point, I was totally turned off. If roaches are out and about in the daytime, it usually points to a deeper infestation. That's wild to me for any food establishment. The bartender was already ringing me up, so I paid and left, but if not for that, I would've just walked out. Out of respect, I didn't take any pictures or video, but I wouldn't be posting this if it wasn't true. I really hope management addresses the issue, because I used to love this spot.

Came here at noon on a Saturday and this legendary dive bar was already packed. It is also one of the oldest bar in Long Beach. I ordered a schooner of stella. I also had to order and try the famous Joe's special sandwich. This combination is so unique, it's a split polish sausage on rye bread, layered with swish cheese, pickle, and mustard. It was very good, so simple and definitely a must have if it's your first time visiting. My friend ordered the roasted peanuts and these were very addicting, perfect snack with your beer. I had a great time here, can't believe I've never been especially growing up in Long Beach. I also ordered a Joe Jost's tshirt for my husband. They only take cash and there is an ATM available. I would definitely come back next time I'm in Long Beach.

Great dive bar! Its been in Long Beach for over a hundred a year. Great prices on beer. They got televisions to watch your games. There are few pool tables in the other room. There's a parking lot for you. But what makes this bar better than other bars? Is the fact that they got hot dogs on rye bread. They also have a spicy Cajun sausage on rye which is the special. I recommend that. And you don't want to miss out on the pickled eggs. Best in town.. probably anywhere.

Start my friends birthday celebration he loves it here. It was jam-packed on a Saturday afternoon with the Dodger game on. They have fantastic food hot dogs egg salad sandwiches and pickled eggs. You can make a charcuterie board with the sausage and cheese and pickles. People absolutely love it here and apparently it's over 100 years old. Highly recommend stopping in at least one so you can experience this almost National Treasure of Long Beach California

Coldest beer in town services is wonderful everyone is friendly and on it no long waits and the place has pool tables in the back but a great atmosphere and very traditional , keeps me coming back with friends and family

What I really appreciate is that sometimes it's even kid-friendly, which makes it a great option if you're not just going out solo or with friends. I've been coming around since back when it was Iguana Kelly's, and it's been cool to see how the place has evolved while still keeping that local, neighborhood feel. The location is super easy to find, right next to a donut shop and a mechanic, and across the street you've got a 7-Eleven, Subway, and a few other small spots. Plus, Tommy's Burgers and an Arco are right nearby, so everything you might need is within reach. I tried both the cucumber mixed drink and the mango mixed drink, both were really good, but I personally preferred the cucumber one. It's less sweet and way more refreshing, especially if you're not into overly sugary drinks. We also had a BBQ chicken pizza that they cook in a fire oven (I think it's called a wood-fired pizza), and it was really good, definitely worth trying if you go. Service was good During the outdoor event, they had things set up really well, including a sign that read "21 and over beyond this point only," which helped keep things organized. They also had jumpers outside for the little ones to enjoy, along with tables and chairs so everyone could hang out comfortably. Parking can be a bit tight in their lot, but there's always street parking if you take a minute to read the signs. Overall, it's a great hangout spot with a welcoming atmosphere and something happening more often than not. Definitely worth checking out.

I got lucky and found a spot right out front on Anaheim Street. It shouldn't be too hard to find parking on nearby side streets. We visited on a weekday at 5pm and took advantage of their great happy hour, which runs all night on Monday and Tuesday, and from 3pm to 6pm Wednesday through Friday. Happy hour includes quite a few food specials, and $2 off tiki cocktails. They also have a tiki marketplace in the parking lot on the first Saturday of every month. We sat at the bar since we enjoy talking to the bartenders. Other seating options include a dining area in front with high top tables, and tiki hut booths behind the bar. The booth cushions are pretty beat up. They also have an open air patio out back with a lot of tables. There is another dining room between the patio and the front of the house that has minimal décor and mainly has murals on the walls. The overall tiki décor is somewhere between ok and good. The atmosphere feels like a neighborhood tiki bar with dive bar undertones. We started out with a few appetizers. The veggie egg rolls ($6 during happy hour) were good, and the sauce had a slight heat. We also had the shishito peppers ($8) which were a generous portion and had a very good unami sauce on them. I started out with the Fluffy Banana cocktail (White Rum, Cinnamon, Lemon, Coconut, Banana Liqueur, Bitters, $13 minus $2 happy hour discount). It had a great foam top rising above the edge of the glass. It was balanced with a light to medium sweetness, with coconut up front and banana underneath. She started out with the Bye Bye Ladies (Pineapple, Coconut Cream, Lemon, Tito's Vodka, Trader Vic's Macadamia Nut Liqueur, Shaved Macadamia Nut, $14 minus $2 happy hour discount). This was balanced, but on the much sweeter side with coconut and pineapple up front, with a little macadamia in the background. We ordered more food, and I had the Bamboo Classic Burger ($10 during happy hour). This was a solid tasty burger, and came with a healthy portion of french fries. She had the BBQ pulled jackfruit sandwich ($18). It is nice that they have some vegetarian options on the menu, and she enjoyed it. The Shoyu BBQ sauce had a little spiciness, and the coconut chili slaw definitely had some heat. Next, I had the Fire Walker (Del Maguey Mezcal, Lime, Pineapple, Passion Fruit, Falernum, Habanero Bitters, $14 minus $2 happy hour discount). The mezcal was a little bolder than I usually like, but it was good with light passion fruit flavor, and a nice kick from the habanero bitters. Her second drink was the Monkey Pod (Ron Del Barrilto Rum, Lime, Tamarind, Coconut, $13 minus $2 happy hour discount). It was balanced with tamarind and lime up front with coconut in the background. We had one last round and I got the Dr. Bamboo (Dr. Bird Jamaican Rum, 151 Rum, All-Spice, Prickly Pear, Cinnamon, $16). This one was my favorite. It is a little boozy, but balanced and lush with good allspice and pear flavor. It also feels like a generous pour. Her last cocktail was the Jungle Bird (Caruba Dark Jamaican Rum, Lime, Pineapple, Coconut Washed Campari, $14 minus $2 happy hour discount). This was also very good, and their version isn't as bitter as most. Our bartender Steph was awesome. He was very friendly, had great knowledge of the cocktail menu, and provided great service. He even let us try a little sample of one of his drink concoctions he was working on. Our evening here during happy hour was an absolute bargain. We had two appetizers, two entrees, and six cocktails, and the bill was just a bit over $100. One negative is that the men's room behind the bar is kind of gross and feels very inconsistent with the rest of the bar. It's very punk with stickers all over and it stinks. The bottom line is that the food and drinks are pretty good, and they're an excellent value during happy hour. Service was great, and the atmosphere is ok. We would definitely return during happy hour.

False Advertising and Total Failure of a "Speakeasy"…read more This place should not call itself a speakeasy. According to their website, they are strict about dress code, reservations, and no large parties. None of that was enforced. People arrived wearing sports clothes, tennis shoes, and flip-flops, and a group of more than 10 people was allowed in. That group was loud, drunk, and screaming, completely destroying any speakeasy ambiance. We had a reservation booked one week in advance for 2 tables of six, yet by 8:30 pm, we were told no food was available, despite the bar being almost empty. The water was already on the table when we arrived and tasted strongly of chlorine, with no ice. The waitress was clearly new, untrained, and unprepared. She did not know the menu, didn't know how to take an order properly, and provided no guidance whatsoever. There was one bartender Ricardo, who took over an hour to prepare cocktails and showed no sense of urgency or care. The dramatic cocktail descriptions sounded impressive, but the drinks did not match the descriptions at all. Because of the delays, we were never even able to properly toast or celebrate our friend. The charcuterie board took forever and arrived with an absurd amount of cheese and only six pieces of bread. To make things worse, part of the food we ordered never arrived at all. The live jazz band advertised and promised never showed up. When asked, the staff responded with: "I don't know, they were supposed to be here. I don't have their phone number." That level of disorganization is unacceptable. At the end of the night, we were shocked to receive a check close to $600 for two tables, despite each person only having one cocktail and shared food. The bartender, Ricardo, approached us and said: "Well, sorry, we really tried tonight! It wasn't the best, but we tried." Honestly, that comment made the experience even more frustrating. I can't imagine how bad it would have been if they hadn't "tried."That statement perfectly summarizes the problem -- trying is not enough when everything fails. I would not recommend this place for a speakeasy experience. This is not a speakeasy. It's a poorly run bar hiding behind a concept it does not deliver. Do not recommend.

The staff was inexperienced, dismissive, and unprofessional. Drinks were outrageously overpriced and took forever to arrive. The food was a joke, a $60 charcuterie board made up of cheap grocery store cheese, ham, and crackers that didn't come close to justifying the price. We were served warm water that tasted like chlorine, and the response from staff was literally "I don't know, I just work here." At one point both waitresses vanished, leaving the bartender overwhelmed and everything grinding to a halt. The live jazz band they advertise never showed up, and staff had no explanation or contact info. The so-called dress code was completely ignored, with groups in jeans and sneakers flooding in, turning the place loud, chaotic, and classless. This place delivers nothing it promises.
