This review is specifically for the doughnuts . First of all they are HUGE for the price and you can even get a giant fritter as part of a Joe 1/2 dozen , so definitely worth the price . I got an array of every doughnut possible - but each one that I tried was super moist and delicious. The highlight was a stuffed jelly one (honestly amazing would go back just for that) and a blueberry critter . But, when it comes to being too sugary and heavy, I step on my brakes because I get sick to my stomach and begin to feel like a blob. First time at Joe Donuts. Hubby and I have gotten donuts from both Joe Donut locations. The Niles location is definitely much bigger than the Glenview location and has a larger variety of other food items outside of donuts. Usually when we realize we want donuts it is already past lunchtime and most of the donuts are sold out. So far we have tried the pistachio old fashioned, vanilla old fashioned, chocolate old fashioned, Snickers old fashioned, strawberry lemon old fashioned, blueberry old fashioned, oreo, chocolate red velvet, Nutella, maple bacon, and smore's donuts. Hubby has a sweet tooth and has enjoyed every donut we've had so far. I prefer the chocolate red velvet and Nutella donuts over the old fashioned donuts since the old fashioned donuts are very sweet. They're good when you buy them the day of but they start going stale if you wait to eat them. We haven't been able to explore the menu outside of donuts but someday we will be back to try their drinks and other breakfast foods. read more

We've been coming here for years. Everything on their breakfast menu is delicious. I especially like their sausages and potatoes. It is a really unique style that they fry their potatoes. We recently tried their onion rings for the first time, and it's one of the best onion rings we've ever had. They were large and crispy and fresh. I really enjoy their mini donut cups. I walked in on a Friday just before noon. The restaurants was filled but not too busy. It is a self service restaurant. You go up to the coffee counter and order. The cashier was really helpful in terms of helping me chose an omelette. I got the Eat your veggies omelette, with hash browns, and a side of pancakes. I also got a coffee and a lemon poppyseed donut for the road. I inevitability had a couple bites of the donut while waiting for my food and it was delicious. I've put a halt on giving mediocre or negative reviews since the beginning of Covid. I feel it's unfair due to so many variables being outside of the businesses control (staffing shortages, supply issues and unplanned/expensive safety measures). However, I'm happy to give a good review and today I got a real goodie! Met a friend for breakfast at Joe's this morning and had amazing food! When I walked in I noticed the unbalanced staff to customer ratio and I feared we were all set up for failure - though Joe's succeeded. We split the flapjack flight and I must say that they are some of the best in the area. My benchmark for the BEST are the pancakes at Taste of Heaven (IYKYK). Well, Joe's flapjacks gave them a run for their money that ended in a photo finish! Also shared the breakfast burrito (very good) and the spicy bacon/egg/avocado biscuit, which was amazing. The egg, bacon and biscuit were all cooked to perfection. The service was good, thanks to one man in particular! Manager, owner, what? He was at the same time part orchestra conductor (keeping the whole restaurant on time) and part magician (cause you just watched him and thought "how is he doing that"). He somehow managed to simultaneously expedite orders, buss tables, run food and coordination carry out orders/pick-ups (and crack a joke). If this man is ever looking for a new job, I'd hire him in a second for any of my production openings. Took home a lemon poppyseed old fashioned donut and it was fantastic. Perfect mix of sweet, sour and buttery. So there you have it. Basically Joe's is the modern day Little Engine That Could! Well done you!! read more

The ordering process was a bit weird but it works...I had the fried chicken Egg and bacon on a homemade biscuit smothered in a home made sausage gravy and side of potato nuggets. What a amazing breakfast sandwich! Chicken was hot and fresh so was the biscuit. I personally love the gravy awesome flavors and texture not so thick like mud. Joe is attempting some interesting options on the breakfast menu, particularly with the biscuit sandwiches; however, I'm not sure whether expansion has done their doughnut customers any favors. 1. Doughnuts were completely sold out around 9:30 on Father's Day. Who was more disappointed, me or my 3-year-old?? I get that they sell until they run out, but on a day when they should have expected to be busy, they should have been ready to serve their customers better. 2. A month later I stopped by around 7 on a Sunday to find that they did have doughnuts in stock. Whew. The case included a label for apple fritters (my favorite) but it looked more like their pecan fritter. I asked, "Is that an apple fritter?" to which the clerk checked the sign and responded "Uh...yes, apple fritter." So I bought one, and after the first bite I knew that it was the pecan fritter. I've had both from their Glenview location, and I know my fritters. During the brief time that I was there, two other employees referred to the "apple" fritters in a conversation about what items needed restocking from the kitchen. When at least three of your staff don't know the product that they are selling, that is a problem for your customers--and you! The third strike came one weekday morning in August. After waiting in a long line, I ordered a biscuit sandwich. It came out in less than a minute, very suspicious. The egg and bacon were room temperature, and the biscuit was stale. This was so strange, because a different time, when I got the fried chicken sandwich, it was piping hot and fresh (not to mention delicious). But that cold biscuit sandwich was the last straw for me. I may still stop by the Glenview location for workplace doughnuts: that place is still five stars based purely on the doughnut quality. However, I can't see making the trip down Milwaukee for this cafe's brand of hit-or-miss amateurism. read more

Gotta love a place that has "Donut" in its name, right? After driving past several time and thinking "I gotta check this place out", I finally did, twice. And it was a cute as I thought it would be. Entering through the back is the best way. That way you can get in line and eye the huge array of donuts right away. There are so many choices from the regular glazed to trendy/creative kinds. I am very old school so I have to go with glazed whenever I try a new place because if they can't do a basic glazed right, then what CAN they do? But it's more than just donuts and that's probably why I like them. The breakfasts. I opted for the biscuits and gravy each time, the 2nd visit I added the over easy egg. Both times the dishes were made well. The biscuits are huge and fluffy. The gravy is savory but personally needed more pepper but that's just me. The coffee is great, bold and perfect with the breakfasts or donuts. So back to the donut--I liked it, it wasnt my favorite glazed but I'd definitely go back and try some of the other kinds. read more

The donuts were good (4 stars), but this review is really about their procedure. I get that they're really busy on Saturday mornings, but we waited 15 minutes in line to order breakfast and by the time we got to the cashier, we were informed that there was no seating. So if we wanted to get food, we'd have to get it to go. Since we felt like eggs and pancakes don't travel well, we just got our donuts to go. On our way out the door, we saw two empty tables. We told a staff member about how we were told about the lack of tables (while pointing to the empty ones) and asked whether it would be possible to eat in. She went to ask and told us no, it wouldn't be possible. My friend then told her she should tell the cashier that there were tables available so that at least other people behind us could actually be seated. I normally hate posting these non-food related reviews but in this case, I hope that the restaurant will change its process for ordering and seating. read more

I really try to not besmirch any local and independent businesses, especially now considering that big chains have made it their mission to obliterate small businesses, in nearly every facet of our economy!! But, I digress, as I write this Yelp review, it is my intent that the owner, or managers with this small chain will read it and correct their shortcomings!! Yesterday, my spouse brought home 2 of their donuts for me, and sadly to say, that at the cost of $6.00 for the 2 items, I will NOT every be returning there very soon in the near future. What was supposedly a " Boston Cream " turned out to be a very stale, hard, and extremely dry long John type donut, obviously at least 1-2 days old, and there wasn't a lick of cream on that inside!! For that amount of money ($6.00), we can drive, or walk to any of a number of Jewels, and get a whole box of 12 donuts for $6.00!! Note to all those small businesses out there, especially in the food service sector-please, please , make the time to do "Quality checks " on all of your menu offerings, so we remain loyal customers and feel comfortable and confident in spending our hard earned dollars at your establishment!! I'm giving the donuts a 3. That is all I bought on my stop in visit. Really polite service at the register and a good assortment of donuts. But none had the WOW! factor i was hoping for. Maybe allegrettis has raised my expectations of a donut. Or even do-rite, or firecakes. But for the price it does the job. It's a donut. The buttermilk snickers was over-loaded and beyond sweet, I couldn't even taste the donut. The fruity pebbles raised donut was just so I could experience that sweet cereal in the morning, and 1/4 was enough. The cinnamon sugar was kinda tough and the 4th donut was honestly forgettable. O wait I took a picture, it was the Carmel Apple and again, less toppings would have made it better and more balanced. But hey, maybe they're experimenting..next time I would hope for samples of the simple donuts which look so blah but maybe that is where I went wrong. I loved Joe Donut from the first time when I visited their Glenview location last year. They have a good variety of donuts and the donuts taste delicious. Recently, I went back to the Glenview location but when I got there, it was closing for the day (earlier then scheduled) as they were out of donuts. One of the employees suggested I go to their newly opened Niles location which I was aware of but I wasn't sure if they were open too as I had called them twice and no one answered my call. The Glenview employee said that they must be super busy that's why no one was answering. My son and I really wanted some donuts and even though the Niles location was a drive for me and out of the way, I decided to go there. I had read up on Yelp that the Niles location was not just a donut and coffee shop but also an eatery. They have a larger selection of donuts (compared to the Glenview shop) and they also serve breakfast and lunch food. When I got to the Niles location in the early afternoon, the place was busy. The parking lot was pretty much full. Luckily, I was able to find a spot right away. There's a front entrance and a rear entrance (parking lot side). Once you enter from the back side of the shop, you can just follow the signs for ordering what you want. Before you can choose the line you want to stand in, you can take a look at their menu. It's counter service for all of the food that you order. I knew what I wanted so I got in the donuts ordering line and went for their box of 1/2 a dozen. I got a Pistachio old fashioned, Blueberry old fashioned, Lemon poppy seed old fashioned, S'mores, Salted Caramel and a sprinkles covered one. While having some of my donuts, I decided to browse through their breakfast and lunch menu. It look pretty good and the prices were reasonable. They serve biscuits (sandwiches), french toasts, omelettes, pancakes, waffles, fried chicken sandwich, burger, milk shakes and more. I was impressed. I was getting hungry since it was my lunch time too and I hadn't had breakfast so I went ahead and ordered some food to go. I got their tater tots (they were so so), a spicy gringo biscuit sandwich (avocado, bacon, jalapenos, fried egg etc.) and a ham and fried egg biscuit sandwich. I wanted more food to try as it sounded good but I had to resist. My biscuit sandwich was off the hook delicious. I loved it. I wish I had eaten it in the restaurant while it was hot. The service was friendly and good. The restaurant is clean, family friendly and spacious (w/ patio seating available as well). It's a new and happening place so expect some wait time. Oh, JD you've captured my heart!!! Super duper excited for this addition to Niles! They have a pretty roomy lot in the back for parking and there's also street parking available on Harts Rd. This location is 5x bigger than the Glenview one, I'd say. Modern decor with some rustic touches. I believe the dining area isn't fully finished because there's a section with a decorative bike on the wall that seems to need a bit more work. That should open up for more seating when done. There are two entrances, one in the back where the parking lot is and the other facing Milwaukee Ave. First thing you need to do when you walk in is grab some menus, then head over to the counter when you're ready to order. Whether you're there to dine in or just grab some coffees/donuts, you'll have to get in line. I had to explain that to a few people because some stood by the front door (where we sat by) with the menus waiting to get acknowledged by a host. Loved their menu offerings here. Enough options to suit every palate w/o being overwhelming. This is a breakfast/brunch place so their menu reflects that - biscuits, skillets/omelets/scrambles, flapjacks, French toast, waffles etc. They also have hearty dishes like chicken & waffles plus burgers!! We ordered their Meltdown burger w/ a side of fries and the Triple Bypass as a skillet w/ pancakes. Their fries were reminiscent of Steak 'n' Shake's in size and cut but certainly better in quality. Condiments are self-serve and I was happy to see they provide Sir Kensington's products. Simply the best. My friend, who's never tried SK ketchup, had a moment and needless to say it changed his life. The burger was pretty good - that ~secret~ 3-cheese blend got us feeling some type of way...we were shook by how extra cheesy and gooey it was. Let's not even start w/ the skillet. That was my fave. Their breakfast potatoes were divine (crispy and crunchy) and the eggs were quite nice and fluffy. Ugh I could go on and on but I will just say I left with a stupid smile on my face and my stomach thanking me for such a wonderful experience. I brought home a s'mores donut and a maple bacon old fashion for my boo because I'm a nice lass and all, and he devoured it in about 25 secs. I saved the bacon for myself ngl. TIP: They're constantly churning out donuts so even if you don't see what you want on display, there might be some other flavors in the works - just ask any of the people behind the counter or one of the managers what's in the queue! Another excellent addition to the neighborhood and this was much needed! The cute exterior seating and decent sized parking lots are major pluses in my opinion! The indoor decor is adorable and very on-trend. To start off with-this place is only 2 weeks old and is doing a good job of handling the huge influx of customers and space compared to the tiny location in Glenview. I came in here the during the week for just donuts and they were EXCELLENT! Huge selection with a large variety that include both unique and old favorite donuts. The menu itself is also large and has a little something for everyone. The prices are also VERY fair and I think a great price point for the area. I ordered the cowboy breakfast and my mom had the breakfast burrito. The food was great for both of us! The breakfast potatoes are a little different but still good. I noticed that if a customer mentioned something about an order, it was immediately addressed and taken care of with no delay and I really appreciated that. We didn't wait long after ordering to get our food despite waiting in line for a while. The only issue I had was with the cashier. She was spacing out and talking with the other staff (not about orders/food but about personal chit chat) It was annoying because she kept ignoring us or spacing out and then asking us to repeat our order. The line was very long and it didnt help that it took so long to order when we made sure to know what we wanted by the time we got to the front all because she was busy socializing and not paying attention what so ever. My husband also ordered a pecan sticky bun which is similar to a Cinnamon roll. Joe Donut has the most unique donuts. This is not a Dunkin Donuts. America does not run on Dunkin Donuts anymore. There's a new kid in town -- Joe Donut. This has now become my favorite breakfast joint! It's an orgasmic, love affair, food experience. We plan to come for lunch to try their gourmet burgers. Everything here is ala carte, which means the burgers do not come with fries. It is an additional $2 to get fries with a burger. We arrived a little after 7 a.m. on Friday. The joint was busy, but not crazy busy yet. People were buying 2 dozen donuts at a time. The extra large boxes look like pizza boxes! TIP: Enter the restaurant through the back glass doors. This place just opened up next to my house and I didn't even know about it till this morning, so naturally I just ran out to grab donuts & some sandwiches for breakfast at home. The quality of the food and donuts is amazing. The donuts are freshly made and you can really taste it. This is way better than Stan's Donuts and having to drive into the city for fresh made donuts. Also, the service was great. Two people helped me out and were so sweet. I also got an iced latte and was asked if I wanted it with whole, almond or skim milk. I asked if they could make it with half and half and sure enough they could. I also ordered two sandwiches, my favorite was the southern lovin'. If you're not looking for a breakfast place, just a donut stand, this is the place for you. When you come in nobody greets you at the door and you have to figure out what you are supposed to do. Turns out there's no wait staff and you have to make your way to the back of the establishment. There is no way to know what you are ordering because the menus have no pictures; you just have to stumble through the whole process. The food came out with no silverware so we had to walk around the restaurant trying to find silverware. I had the cowboy breakfast with pancakes, breakfast "potatoes" and over medium eggs. The "potatoes" are a fried doughy donut thing, not potatoes. They were disgusting. Now I know why I saw them on everyone's finished plates. The pancakes were good though. read more

This place is great! I got the (eggs, potato, and pancakes) cowboy breakfast and it was only $6! I could tell the eggs were freshly scrambled in a small batch, and not mass-made. The potatoes are unique - definitely not hash browns. And the pancakes were light and fluffy. Also got the Oreo and red velvet donuts. The donuts are definitely too expensive for an everyday or every week sort of thing, but worth the splurge! I visited when this location was only open for a few days. The line situation (there's one line for donuts and one line for breakfast food) was confusing and hectic, and the placement of the line was annoying because as I sat eating, people in line crowd around you.
