Quick service! The coffee is pretty good, although I ordered a large cold brew and the cup was so small (forgot to take a pic) so that was a bit disappointing. The food was ok; I got the "Fun Guy" biscuit and I felt like the biscuit was overpowering and a bit dry. Some gravy on it would have evened it out a bit. So as you'll see from the pics, we tried an array of things. Overall, solid glazed old fashioned flavors. The others have some criticisms. We got: Strawberry glazed yeast: 8/10 - great glaze, tasted like natural strawberries but the donut itself was dry. Strawberry lemonade GOF: 10/10 - this one wins out against the Doughnut Vault version (which is the only other place I've seen it AND against the raspberry lemon GOF at Stan's). It was the perfect balance of tart and sweet. Good glaze and good cake base. Nice size. Blueberry GOF: 9/10 also delicious! Pretty even with Stan's. Not my fav of all time but very solid and worth getting. Peaches & Cream filled - 4/10 BUT i don't like cream filled donuts so take that with a grain of salt, my husband loved it. I didn't think the peach came through and didn't love the cream (but again, I never do). Pecan Fritter: 6/10 - good flavor for the fritter itself but severely lacking in nooks & crannies, which is the cornerstone of a good fritter. The flavor just couldn't make up for it being one big blob. Salted Caramel GOF: 6/10 - good texture and base but I didn't get a caramel or salted flavor at all. I thought the crispies were salt crystals but they're not. Doughnut Vault and Stan's have a better version of this. We would come back if in the area and try breakfast and other flavors. read more

Joe Donut makes my very favorite close-to-home donuts. They are just so stinking good! Flavor combos are creative and fun- like the cherry lemon old fashioned or the banana Nutella pocket square. Breakfast options are also solid, with different biscuit sandwiches and toppings. The gringo spicy *actually* has a kick with jalapeños, spicy mayo and pepper jack cheese! I would suggest getting there early because when they run out, they run out! There's always a line, and the parking lot is consistently full, but it is definitely worth a visit! read more

I was blown away by the breakfast burrito! I know it's a donut place but if you have the chance, definitely get the burrito. It includes a perfect blend of scrambled eggs, potatoes, avocado, bacon, sausage, and cheese. Top it with some chohula with every bite, and you've got yourself the perfect breakfast. It was absolutely delicious and so filling that we didn't get dinner until 7 hours later. The donuts however were just alright (hence the 4 stars). We got a 1/2 dozen which I thought could be any of the donuts but they separated the 'specialty' donuts from the regular ones. I had wanted more specialty donuts but couldn't get them without paying more, which I will probably do the next time I'm in town to visit. My go-to donut place is Cranky Al's in Wauwatosa, WI, and they had better donuts (especially the old fashioned pistachio and the Nutella). The snickers donut was awesome though! For a donut place, I did wish that the donuts tasted better but the place made it up with the breakfast burrito and coffee. The coffee was AMAZING. I loved it so much and wished I got a refill before I left. I finished the entire cup in way too short of a time but it was great with the donuts. read more

Long time customers beware, something has changed at my beloved Joe Donut. I came this morning with my family ,as we have for the last 4 years, and received our food only to discover that the portions were half the size they used to be. If you've had the breakfast burrito, you know it is no joke. Today it was 50% tortilla, mostly filled with eggs, barely any bacon. Same went for the omelette my wife ordered. We get it, food costs are increasing; but reducing the portion size is not the way to offset that cost, people come here for the heaping servings and leftovers. Also; still no changing table in the bathrooms for kids. read more

This place is great for an after church or late morning start brunch. It's a great price and very chil ambiance. The biscuits are so so good! We had been in for the spectacular donuts, but went for brunch. I enjoyed a veggie biscuit sandwich, my husband ordered a burger with their house made tots. This is a great addition to the neighborhood! The only issue is that the donut selection is hit or miss depending on what they still have in stock that day, but you can always order a day ahead if there are specific things you want. The sandwich selections are varied, and the sizes generous. I usually get a breakfast one, the Gimme My Regular, with ham. The Sidecar is also excellent. My favorite donuts are the Blackberry Old Fashioned and the Salted Caramel Old Fashioned, but every one I've tried has been good. The toppings and glazes are rich, and melt in your mouth. There's usually seating available unless you arrive at peak on a weekend, and there's a parking lot in the back which makes it easy to stop by. read more

Our experience was a-ok. Service was very good. Wonderful folks greeting you and walking around to check on you. Hubby got typical breakfast. He seemed happy with his order. I got the biscuits and gravy. Pretty standard fair. But so underwhelming! Not enough gravy. It was a dry biscuit and sure could have used some gravy. Coffee was solid. Very bold and delicious. Wish I could have some at home I got two donuts. Maple bacon - meh. Definitely had better at places that no longer exist. Man I miss a good maple bacon donut. Also had the lavender lemon old fashioned. It was pretty good for two days later. I'm sure would have been amazing had I been able to eat same day. They have many different fancy and regular donuts. Definitely better than Dunkin' any day. Will be back and I may try one of the lunch items and I don't care for chicken strips for the chicken and waffles although they did smell good from the next table and biscuits were a bust for me, I guess if I ask for more gravy it might be better. Order and pay first, and your food comes out to you at your table, so no tips needed, but you also don't get table service. For families: note there's only 2 high chairs available here. This review is for the location at 934 Illinois 83 in Elk Grove Village, because I can't seem to find that location in Yelp but I know Joe Donut has multiple locations. The one in EGV was great. Large space given where it is based, but we tried a dozen donuts (10 different types amongst those 12 donuts) and all of them were great. The S'mores, all of the old-fashioneds, the vanilla glazed, the cakes...yep, everything worked. I need to come back here and try these when Joe Donut first opens, because if they were this good at 11 AM, I'm sure they will be better fresh out of the kitchen. $22 for a dozen was very fair given that Chicago city prices have gotten ridiculous. Made a random Thursday 11am visit to this spot for the first time with family. There are two entrances one from the back one from the front as well as a parking lot and if you can't find street parking you can park there too. The actual line itself to order your food is quite tiny and cramped considering that it is also surrounded by the walkway as well as the beverage and refreshment stations and fridges. The staff this day was very nice helpful and very present as they were constantly picking up empty plates and dishes and garbage off of our table. The portions are fair the food is tasty and made fresh and the menu reminds me of some great southern restaurants especially with the biscuit menu. The tater tot's are actually breakfast potatoes and are nothing like a tater tot and this was a little disappointing. The fried chicken was cooked to perfection however I wish it had some more seasoning. The biscuits are very dense and Doughy but would appeal to some tastebuds. Overall I would come back here and I have recommended others to visit it as there is not a spot like it in the area. read more

Brunch place that feels like you're in the city (not suburbs)-- and it's got a parking lot. Walking in, you see a line of people and you're like ohh crap! I need to figure out what I'm going to order--- except I've already studied the menu from Yelp so I'm good to go! There's a wall of donuts display case staring as you wait in line and your mouth is too watery as you place your order... and just can't wait to try everything! Service: 5 the team is super nice. You order in line. Take a number. And they deliver the food to you. They also cleaned our table. The lady taking order also was very helpful with choosing items to avoid food allergy. Mango orange juice: 2 I didn't like it. I prefer regular orange juice instead. The mango flavor tasted like concentrate and not authentic. Sidecar: 3 looks delicious but it's actually a bit salty. It's also hard to eat. The gravy has cinnamon flavor that I didn't like. Breakfast burrito: 4 flavorful. Delicious. Triple bypass: 4 meaty and tasty. Fries and pancakes were also good. Joe Donut is a very nice and casual brunch/lunch stop. They have a new, airy, clean, and spacious corner restaurant and it's a much bigger operation than their original donut shop in Glenview. The menu is pretty extensive, very reasonably priced, and very good quality. Besides their signature donuts, they have made to order items like omelettes, pancakes, biscuits, waffles, fried chicken, burgers, and shakes. Our party of five including two kiddos had: - two cheeseburgers ($4 each) and a side of fries ($2). The fries was a particular generous serving, and the burgers were a very good value. - biscuit # 1 with sausage ($7) - meltdown burger ($7) We also carried out an assortment box of 9 donuts for $13. This is exactly the place I was hoping to find for good food and coffee. You pay at the counter first after making your mind about how many donuts you'll take home later. I ordered the Southern Lovin' and a coffee, I paid and took my number to sit wherever I liked. Coffee is serve yourself and is decidedly a cut above most restaurant coffee quality. My plate came out timely and hot. The Southern Lovin' is a breakfast sandwich, chicken breast, bacon, cheese, on a nice honey biscuit. The donuts are just as good as their Glenview location (pistachio, powdered sugar, Oreo,) house brew is strong, and the food (Sidecar - biscuit with fried chicken, bacon and gravy) was better than expected and reasonably priced ($8). Our food came out quickly, and staff were friendly despite the high volumes; they were also efficient clearing off tables. What would've made the experience better during this peak time would've been an associate at the back entrance guiding people and/or handing out menus and taking pre-orders to move things along. We parked out in the back and were confused about the ordering process. Several others we walked in with were also unsure and shuffled between lines. But long story short, there are two lines: to-go and dine-in. You order with the cashier and take a seat (no table service.) My other suggestion is to move finished goods out of plain view in the bakery window as it wasn't pleasing to see trays of pre-made biscuits and fried chicken sitting out. It was also very, very loud inside so probably not the place to go if you're seeking peace and quiet. Despite the chaos, we enjoyed our experience and wished we ordered more donuts! read more

The breakfast is decent. It's hard to screw that up. It's a cute place and I love the fact you can order at the counter and go seat yourself. But after trying the donuts on 4 different occasions, it's just not worth the money or calories. They taste like day old donuts... which makes my heart sad (as well as my wallet). I picked up two dozen today for 7 kids and a couple of adults and they we very well received because they LOOK fun and delicious. But unfortunately, after they all sunk their teeth into them, I have many donuts abandoned with only a couple bites. I really wanted to like them, but they just mediocre, at best. I dined in at this Joe Donut for breakfast. First off, let me just mention having a parking lot in the back is such a great convenience especially for people like me who's terrible at street parking!! I ordered the breakfast burrito and two donuts (pistachio and lemon poppy old fashion). The burrito was a substantial portion and I was full after half. The ingredients within were good too, but the breakfast potatoes was overdone and saturated in oil making the burrito taste greasy. I also mistook the potatoes for bacon!! I'm not sure the dark brown cook time was done to ensure the potatoes were extra crispy...?? The avocado and aioli is what made the burrito really. While the donuts looked impressive, I was a bit let down on taste. The pistachio didn't really have a pistachio flavor (but maybe pistachio doesn't have a flavor?) and the lemon poppy didn't have a lemon taste either. You definitely taste the crisp exterior of the old fashion donut and the soft cake like interior then the sweet sugary icing on top but the donuts fell short. read more

The doughnuts here are definitely on the pricey side but definitely worth the occasional splurge now and then! They have some classic flavors but their creative ones always capture my interest and tastebuds! However, one of my favorites is their vanilla doughnut with chocolate glaze. I went opening weekend and it was a nightmare. Crazy crowded, ran out of iced coffee, and our breakfast sandwiches would take an hour for just takeout. We left, but thank goodness they ironed things out since then! Since then I've been there twice at prime brunch time on Sundays, and there were always some (but not many) tables available, and very quick service. Considering it's prime brunch time, that's a huge improvement. Both times I got a biscuit breakfast sandwich, potatoes, and iced coffee. Sandwich is great, potatoes are amazing, and coffee is really great. Now an ode to the potatoes: I cannot figure out how they make the potatoes but they're very good. Are they soft tiny potato nuggets? Are they partly mashed potatoes? I see some pieces of shredded potato- do they have some hash brown in them? i can't even tell if they're battered because they kind of look like fried curds. The second time I got them they were a little too oily-tasting, but I'd still do it again. Just let me bathe in a pile of these potatoes. I have yet to try the donuts, but my boyfriend said they were meh. The prices are also pretty incredible- you get so much food for what you pay! Go on and give it a try. read more

First timer! I ordered the Gimme My Regular Biscuit ($6), a 16oz coffee ($2.50) and a few donuts. Biscuit: Pretty huge! It had tasty, thick bacon (choose your own meat) and a generous amount of egg. It could have used more cheese. The semi-buttery biscuit was flaky and somewhat dry. Coffee: I said "yes" to cream, and they poured with a very heavy hand until it was a light tan! Beware. I couldn't get a taste of the brew. Nutella donut: It disappointingly lacked its namesake ingredient: there was only a small dollop in the very bottom center of the donut. Not worth the almost $3 price tag on an otherwise sugar donut. The biscuit was a solid 4, but the coffee and donut fell a bit flat. I'll update if the other two donuts (regular glazed, apple cider) are any better. Maybe worth another shot when I'm back in the area. read more

Their donuts Are amazing, don't get me wrong but what gets Glazed over too often is the fact that this cozy, crunchy not so little spot is easily a heavyweight contender for my best local dine-in eatery. My wife and I find ourselves gravitating to Joe Donut anytime we want to stay close to home and have a hearty home style breakfast/brunch while we reset and catch up with one another bc we end up talking to each other more than we eat. Trust me, I still eat plenty. From the biscuits and gravy to any of the eggcellent entre choices there's nothing I've found that I haven't wanted to reorder the next time we stop by. When I picked up my donuts around noon, I saw only 9 donuts left in the case for walk-ins. The red velvet cake donut had a perfect cakey texture. The vanilla old-fashioned beat Do-Rite's old-fashioned IMO (a high bar). Although my husband still prefers Do-Rite's version, he agreed that Joe Donut's old-fashioned came in a close second. The disappointment was the apple fritter - we had heard that Joe's is known for fritters. But it was dense and flattened, and had very little apple in it.
