Stopped in for lunch today. Ordered the brisket sandwich. Brisket was tasty, but the bbq sauce not so tasty, vinegary version of Sweet Baby Rays. The brisket sandwich came with a heap of fries. I ate a few but they were not very tasty. The booth had a big hole in it. The iced tea no lemon was served with 2 lemon wedges even after I gave her my iced tea no lemons spiel. The restaurant is a little dated inside, and some of the booths are a little torn up, but the food is always really good, cooked well, consistently, and good sized portions. The staff is always very lovely, even when they are packed, and you can just tell that everyone there really wants to give you a good experience. The prices are just right for the amount and quality of food that you get. We went to JJ's for St. Patrick's Day at recommendations of others for Corn Beef and Cabbage. The meal came with corn beef, cabbage and red potatoes. The meal was kind of high ($15.??), but considering the increase everything has these days, it was an acceptable cost. It was the best corn beef and cabbage I have ever had. The menu is full of all kinds of dishes that are done well but this is a great spot to just go simple and order a burger. It's a diner kind of place and they know how to make a great burger with fries. They also have banquet rooms for no additional charge. You can do plated meals or a buffet. I went to JJ's this evening with 14 friends. Our evening was STELLAR! I arrived almost an hour before our reservation. Yet they already had the back room set up for us and showed me to our tables. Our server, Karen, immediately stopped by and took my drink order. As my friends arrived, Karen stopped in to take their drink orders. Once most everyone had arrived, Karen told us the specials and took our food orders. The salads arrived quickly and were delicious. Promptly after the salads, our entrees arrived. YUM!! I had the blackened catfish (a special). It was incredibly flaky and tasty. I decided to try the Brew City fries instead of the regular fries because they looked so good. Unfortunately, I didn't care for them. I think it was just different than I was expecting. They're basically seasoned fries. The picture looked like steak fries to me - they ARE NOT steak fries. Several others at the table got the catfish special and devoured it! One friend got a Cobb salad. It was HUGE!! Another special was fried shrimp. Several friends tried it and all were happy. However my friend who got the sweet potato fries was disappointed and did not eat them. She said they were tasteless. Most of us stayed after dinner to chat. We were there over 2 hours (over 3 hours for a couple of us). Yet Karen never stopped checking on us. Everyone commented that they enjoyed the food and would return. I didn't hear anyone say their experience was negative overall. I want to especially thank Karen, our server. She worked extremely hard for our table and was very accurate. I didn't notice any mistakes - not even a small slip-up. That's saying a lot with 15 people to manage. Karen never forgot about us and somehow managed to keep our drink glasses filled! However, the most impressive part was when I was paying. I made a $10 adding mistake on my credit card receipt. She could have added $10 to her tip and I would have never known the difference. Instead, she quietly pulled me aside and showed me the error. Not often I get a server who not only has a great attitude and is friendly, works hard, is efficient and accurate, and is honest. We've been patronizing JJ's in O'Fallon for years. They offer a large menu and the servings are large. We always ask for to-go containers. We especially recommend the ribs and fried catfish. Came here for a 60th wedding anniversary party and had such a great time! The staff was attentive and even though they couldn't accommodate us in every manor, they were great to work with. I ordered their sourdough burger which was basically a frisco melt from Steak N Shake. It was delicious! Amongst the other guests I know I heard people raving about the fried chicken so that sounds like a safe bet as well! I did think some items were a little pricey for the amount of food you got, but otherwise I had a good experience at JJ's read more

When my group was seated only two other groups were there. One was almost finished, after the waitress dropped off the salads she came back to tell us that they where out off chicken and we would have to reorder. We did but seven groups came in after us. Five groups had there food we are still waiting,as the waitress the status of our order. Was told you'll get it when it's done then said that we weren't the only table. That was her tip. This was a take out order. Tried the fried chicken meal based on reviews from others. Very disappointed, chicken was over cooked, 4 piece meal, I identified the wing, leg and breast, the piece that was supposed to be the thigh (I think) was a balled up, over fried chunk of breading, skin and fat. The other pieces were way over cooked, dark brown, spent way too much time in fryer. The order came with 2 sides, I ordered coleslaw and mashed potato's and gravy. when I got home and opened the potato container, that's what it was, a styrofoam container with a scoop of potato's - no gravy, just potato's. I did enjoy the coleslaw. This is second time I've tried this restaurant in past month, first time I had the fried shrimp which was ok I guess. I won't be going back to JJ's which is kind of sad as it is close to my home and convenient to get to, but the food is just too marginal for my taste and wallet. read more

There is a lot of room in the restaurant, and I believe it is locally owned. The portions are excellent and you can expect to get your money's worth. It had been an extremely difficult day for me. We were on our way back to our hotel after spending the day at my younger brother's funeral and I was feeling a great deal of sadness. The moment we walked through the doors, I knew that we had come to the right place. The decor immediately made me smile. It was almost as if the restaurant was decorated by my brother. St. Louis Blues hockey, a whimsical homage to fishing and Kramer by the bathroom...lol! You have no idea just how comforting that was. But what drove me to write a review and to give this place 5 stars, was the super star of the show...the food! As a former resident of the St. Louis area (I grew up in Fenton) I am constantly on the search for the food I cannot get when I am in my now homestate, Connecticut. Sooo, first up...Toasted Ravioli!! Of course this is a St. Louis staple and JJ's does them right! My fiance ordered chili-mac and was highly satisfied. According to him, the chili was absolutely outstanding. The only thing negative he had to say was that he wished there would have been a choice of pasta type. He would have preferred an angel hair or rotini, but was satisfied with penne. As for me, I had the Santa Fe chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. I was absolutely in love with my meal. So much so that I actually had a dream about the roll I had...I mean, who does that? lol In my dream, I had a whole bowl full of them! I was bummed to wake up with no rolls beside me. The green beans tasted JUST like my grandma's, which are my very favorite and the mashed potatoes and chicken were delectable! I asked the waitress to please tell the owners to open up a restaurant in Connecticut because I just can't go through life without those rolls...lol. Don't tell my grandma, but they are even better than hers! Seriously, how have I not written a review for this place yet? Now I feel embarrassed about being from O'Fallon and haven't done the review for it. Guess I better fix that with this review. Been coming here for years really. I think I've been here off and on since I was little. Service is always good. The people are always nice and friendly and understanding. Oh, and I forgot to mention quick. When they notice we are running low on drinks they come with another round for us. My family has the menu mostly memorized, which is both a good thing and a bad thing. Mainly because we can pick out our order easily, so we don't always try something new. I will say though. That no matter what you get, the food here is good and solid. Meaning that it will always be dependably good. The down side to this space is the lack of parking and the dated look. The lack of parking comes from this place being too popular for it's own good. Though, that is a positive for a business. The dated look comes from age of the building and space. Some repairs and remodeling could be redone, but overall the space is still in decent shape. read more

BE AWARE! Pay attention to your bill, we had a family of 5, and gratuity was added to our bill, but was only shown on the detailed bill, not the merchant copy that you sign! There was a space to add gratuity on it as well, so you could end up double tipping! I asked the server when they started adding the gratuity automatically, and she said they have the option to do that for large parties. I have no problem with that, which is usually parties of 8 or more, and we usually tip 20% and up, but when did 5 people become a large party? To start, they had no lemonade. Which that by itself wasn't an issue, but just want to note that. We ordered an iced tea. When we asked if there was flavored, we were told no, but then noticed on the menu there was raspberry! Well the iced tea came and it was pure sugar water. It was completely undrinkable. The server did bring a different drink at least. After we ordered, I had a salad. It never came out before the main meal. I did get it to go at least but still... The food was basic, food service. Nothing special, unique, or flavorful. Frozen hamburgers, chicken fingers, fries; though the upgraded brew fries were probably the best part of the meal. The atmosphere was pretty dull. One huge thing to note was the mismatched ketchup and mustard bottles among the tables. Like very obvious. I mean you have this cool branding but can't take the time to cover up the labels for that? Also, the Pepsi cups, the Pepsi sign near the front of the door, but Coke products?!? Pick one. Over all, a pretty sad and basic meal, pretty disappointing after some of the other reviews I saw. I was there recently and dismayed that they are taking no precautions for CV-19, other than saying they are seating people away from one another. Up until 2 weeks ago we would have given this restaurant 10 starts, but we had a bad experience with a take out order a few weeks ago. We called to complain and requested a call back that NEVER happened. Yes we should have followed up, but we got busy. If they were a good business they would have called us back. The owner was so rude today. All he talked about was he has 16 years old working up front. Really? Then he went on and on about how he might lose his business. Everyone in this country is suffering. Jobs have been lost. People have died. We all have lost something or are potentially at risk for losing something. Personal problems should NEVER be addressed with their customers. I'm sorry he is at risk for losing everything. We are all in the same boat -- no one is safe from this pandemic. Overpriced and underwhelming. Got a Philly cheesesteak and it was so greasy it was falling apart on the first bite. The meat was chewy so that was a big turn off. I had upgraded to their new steak fries which I'm sure were from a freezer bag and thrown in the fryer, they came out Luke warm and still raw in the middle. This place had some off points during my families visit, but oddly enough I left a fan of this restaurant and look forward to trying them out again! JJ's is a locally owned establishment that serves a variety of American cuisine, including some southwestern flavors. Like a Ma and Pop "applebee's" without the rush of table turnovers. The service made me feel like I was visiting strangers home and I gradually, but quickly fell comfortable. Their menu doesn't showcase anything unpredictable, but I liked that and it wasn't overwhelming. Everyday at JJ's there is a designated special of that day, and it rarely if ever changes. The place wasn't a packed house, but if I were I wouldn't mind the waiting room as it was filled with old school arcade games. Like a pinball machine, candy catchers, a Ms. Pacman table with the screen as the table top, and a FOOZ Ball table! What!? Like I said before, the place was off that day said the server, but he was a cool guy. He forgot napkins, silverware, and one item I ordered, but he filled the gaps with always making sure we were taken care. My glass was never empty, I'll put it that way. Weird situation also happened while we dined there...a lady on the other side of the room had a seizure! Holy Crap! Nobody panicked, and 911 was dialed, police, firemen, and paramedics took care of her. The staff handled that situation appropriately I believe. Man, I hope that lady is okay, she was able to speak. Geesh! Lets get back to the goods. My kids had mac and cheese. It looked like the Kraft box type, "cause it probably was". They didn't complain, It came with oreo cookies and they got to dig into our appetizer, which were the Bosco sticks w/Hot Marinara. The app was good, but they cut up 3 of them into bite size pieces. I didn't mind it, for the kids sake. I hope they don't usually do that though, I feel like that can lose temperature. My wife ordered the "special" which was a sirloin steak w/ 2 sides. I can't remember both, but one of them were mashed potatoes w/ a homemade white gravy. She said it was awesome, so I'll take her word for it. Now me, I had the Jalapeno Double Cheese burger. I made them give me the works! Bacon, Cheese, shredded lettuce, tomato, onion, jalapenos, jalapeno ranch. Man! They executed my burger perfectly, it was huge and juicy. I absolutely destroyed that plate, including the fries w/hot cheese sauce on the side. Mainly because that server challenged my "man-appetite", said he could'nt finish it him self, this was based on my question's in regards to it's size. They grill their burgers diner style, so I wasn't asked the options of med. rare to well done, but it didn't matter...it did not disappoint, and it is the main reason I give this place 4 stars. The cheese burger special is very good..... my bf got the wings... they were the best flavored wings we have had in a very long time... we asked for extra crispy and that is how they came. We like to eat at local people restaurants. Tonight was our first time to JJ's for the Thursday night sirloin steak special. It is an 8 oz steak with 2 sides for $10.99. It was cooked exactly as I wanted it - medium. Baked potato cooked so you can eat the skins if you like, oiled and lightly salted. The side salad is a bit small but had slices of tomatoes, cucumbers, shredded cheese and croutons on the fresh lettuce. The bun - OMG it was delicious. The popcorn they give you when you first sit down is just-popped and really good. Like many mom and pop places, it could use a bit of work. A few of the booths had torn vinyl. The sports memorabilia was really nice but could use some attention to dust. Nothing terrible, I'm just saying what I saw. The bathroom was small but nice and clean. That says a lot considering how busy they were. The place is a lot bigger inside that it looks. i was surprised. Service was fast and very polite.
