Out Hobo's way so we stopped in again. Even later in the evening it was still packed but they know what they are doing and we only waited a bit before being seated. I've been meaning to stop by Hobos for months, and last night we finally made it happen. Located inside the American Legion, the place was absolutely packed when we arrived. Despite the crowd, my wife and I were seated pretty quickly. I had heard great things about the pizza, so we ordered a veggie pizza along with two garden salads. My wife went with a glass of Pinot Grigio, and I had a Corona with a lime. The salads came out first, as expected, and were fresh and tasty with a flavorful dressing. Because of how busy it was, our pizza took about 40-45 minutes to arrive. That said, it was worth the wait. The pizza was loaded with vegetables, and both the sauce and crust were very good. The cheese really stood out--gooey, rich, and full of flavor. One thing to note: the center slices were a bit soggy due to the amount of toppings, but it didn't take away from the overall taste. While we were there, we struck up a conversation with a gentleman seated next to us (he was 90 years old) who was enjoying the fried chicken dinner with mashed potatoes. Mind Blown! I seriously did not expect the service or the quality of food when I entered, Hobos. I am confident, that once I come back and enjoy their fried chicken, I will be bumping them up to 5 Stars. My BFF and I went shopping at the Dillard's Clearance Center in the Mid-Rivers Mall and needed lunch. We did a Yelp search and picked another restaurant down the street. Once we parked and started walking, we changed our minds and strolled down Main Street to Hobos. When we walked in and saw how packed it was, we knew we made the right decision. It was so full, that we had to be seated at a communal table at one end and another couple was seated at the other end. We were promptly greeted by our server and she took our drink orders. When she came back we let her know that we were newbies and this was our first visit. She took time, explained the menu, told us customer favorites and her own personal favorites. My BFF knew what she wanted, since she is doing low-carb dieting. She ordered, a Chef Salad with Bleu Cheese Dressing. She loved it. The dressing was super thick and the presentation of the salad was picture perfect. I was torn in many directions, but opted for the Cajun Chicken Salad. On the recommendation of my server, I went with the Smoked Chicken and I am glad I did. The chicken was full of smokey flavor and the Southwest Ranch Dressing was another perfect choice. In addition to the salad, I enjoyed a side of Jalapeño Hush Puppies. I wish all hush puppies were this good. The table next to us got the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. - Food was extraordinarily delicious, reminded me of home cooked goodness. They didn't ask me how I wanted my burger cooked but it came out juicy anyways thankfully. The chipotle mayo was addicting and the fries were so nice and crunchy. The food overall was perfect 10/10. ‍- Service for how busy it had been was really quick, we got a table almost immediately despite there being a line to get in. However I will note that the sign in sheet thing was a little confusing we weren't sure if the line was to sign the sheet or to be seated. My son had chicken strips and you could tell they were homemade. A little too big for me but very fresh. He and my husband loved them. My husband got ribs. The ribs were huge, too huge and awful. Hobo's is located in old St. Peters and is an old school kind of place. They are known for their fried chicken, which I thought was pretty good but I like a thicker, crunchier batter. My parents absolutely love it though. The place is always packed and the patio on the side of the building is a great place to eat when the restaurant gets too loud. They're pretty wide variety on the menu and their salads are really good. Even though I've lived less than 10 minutes away most of my life. I've only been here handful of times. First off, we frequent this place at least once a month if not 2-3 times a month depending on our schedules. We almost always have good food and service, but at our last visit we were a bit disappointed. I went in with my 16yr old daughter who's a vegetarian. We decided to share a pizza. The one we wanted was a specialty pizza that came with certain items on it. One of the items was a meat product so we asked if it could be omitted and the answer was "No". Then when we attempted to select a different specialty pizza but asked if black olives could be added to it we were also told no that the specialty pizzas are made only according to the menu. I don't feel like we had this issue in the past, but maybe we did and I've just forgotten. I then asked if we could get our own pizza and do one meat on one half for me and one veggie on the other half for her. The waitress Meraiah told me she'd still have to charge me for a two topping pizza. That made zero sense to me since it was still just one topping across the whole pizza. It became so frustrating that I just gave in and agreed to it. Once the pizza came out it was so over cooked on the edges that it was actually burnt looking. When she set it on the table I commented that it looked burnt and she didn't even respond. I'm not used to any of this at Hobo's and hope that our server Meraiah was just having an off day or that what she told us about the pizzas was a miscommunication and it really isn't that way. If it is I doubt we will be back there as a family as they don't have a lot of vegetarian options unless fried cheese, salad or Mac and cheese is your thing. Those items just get a bit too basic for a 16yr old. I mean she's not eating off a kids menu anymore and yes she could order a cheese pizza but not for one person when it costs over $20. They need some other options there. Meanwhile, when my spouse and I go (non-vegetarians) we usually get the wings, fried clams, the meat pizza, buffalo chicken wrap or one of their burgers. Also, their tomato based ranch salad dressing is really good. They have daily specials that can be great or just okay. I once had the spicy meatball sandwich and it was way too spicy and another time I had the fried chicken soup and the chicken was too dried out, but all the other daily specials I've had have been just fine. The environment is typical of a legion hall type venue with lots of TVs and a bar. Be prepared to wait in a line and no they won't seat you unless your whole party is there. They also seat you at times with other people but they also ask you first if it's okay. It's the type of place where sitting with others is like knowing your community. read more

We attended a memorial party in their upstairs room. I was pleasantly surprised by how spacious this space turned out to be. Beautiful wood floor adds a homey touch, and they have a big enough room for a bar, catering, and dancing. 2 things - Stairs to the upper floor are wide and steep. They have chair lift installed so doubt there's an elevator. And the parking lot isn't very big. Food was really good. Only complaint was that the catering was later than expected. read more

If you ask, they have a list of gf and non gluten free menu items so you can make informed choices. I'm gluten intolerant not celiac so i didn't inquire regarding cross contamination. i got a juicy grilled pork chop, really good baked beans, and broccoli cauli salad: $8.95. Kids got catfish and a burger, the Slick Willy. i was told we lucked out by being able to walk in and sit down - they do get busy busy. Hobos is one of my absolute favorites and a true family-friendly neighborhood staple. This place is full nearly every night of the week (that they're open), but the wait is never long. All of their staff is super friendly and FAST. The food is amazing and very, very budget friendly. You will leave FULL and happy, without breaking the bank. This pork steak was so tender could cut with my fork and had a great smoked flavor and very large! Hobo's is located inside an active VFW hall and offers a complete menu. I've long heard their fried chicken was out of this world so that's what I ordered. You have the option of a breast/thigh or wing/leg. You can also order an extra breast or have all white meat. I opted for the breast, thigh and wasn't disappointed. My wife had fried clams. Unlike the Ipswich variety we enjoy on the east coast, these were more "Howard Johnson" like as you can see from the picture. She always shares so I can say first hand, they were meaty and had a nice flavor. You also could choose two sides. I enjoyed baked beans and onion rings (extra charge) and my wife had green beans and mashed potatoes. Looking at the menu there are at least 6-8 other items I'd like to try. Imagine a juicy, reckless beef patty lounging on toasted rye like it's sunbathing at a truck stop, dripping grilled onions and Swiss cheese like it's trying to seduce your cholesterol. The onions? Grilled to the point where they confessed all their secrets. The Swiss cheese? Melted smoother than a jazz sax solo. The rye bread? So perfectly toasted it should come with a warning label: Caution: May cause romantic feelings toward carbs. Rude server. (Having a bad day?). Barely made eye contact with me. I think I was just a bother to her. I explained that I was going to drink a beer while I waited for some take out. To me, the next thing would have been to offer me a menu. I waited about 15 minutes or more then flagged down another server for a menu because my server hadn't bothered to make eye contact with me. Her eyes were always averted so I had no opportunity to even holler at her for a menu. I drank a beer while I waited for my take out order. Fish was very... chewy? Next time I will order something else and AVOID that server. When my take out arrived, she placed it on the counter in front of me without a word or a nod. Got out for a girls day and decided to try this restaurant. Read reviews on it and it did not fail . Restaurant was very busy but I didn't mind waiting in line. It moved fast. Our waitress Teresa was very friendly and understood the menu very well . Ambience was military style and catered to our veterans. Food was very good. I got the half a cluck , it came with breast wing thigh leg and two sides . Coleslaw and mashed potatoes delicious, my mom got shrimp plate and fried pickles (delicious) my sister got the wing plate and a ceasar salad.
