This was our first and the last time visiting The Pine Room. We've heard good things so we thought we'd give it a try. They put us at a tiny table in a dark place. Oh well. We adjusted to that. I ordered a simple grilled cheese. It was burned on both sides. Burned bad enough it tasted bad and was inedible. I asked them to please remake it. They did. It was burned again although not as bad. The server explained it was from the burned residue on the grill. We both ordered seasoned potatoes. We were thinking maybe saltier? No, it just meant they sprinkled a few specs of dried herbs. The worst part is, it was a recooked potato and it was heated up on the same black grill!!! Maybe they should consider cooking with a type of oil that has a higher smoking temp. I think we'll risk our dinner money elsewhere. read more

My husband and I stopped by for an early dinner on a Sunday. The place had a few people so we were able to sit right away. The place is nice with a good size outdoor patio. Our waitress was very friendly. To eat my husband got the fried chicken with greens and mashed potatoes as a side and I got a hamburger and a side salad. The hamburger was so good and big! We came here the other day for date night. It was the first time we have come there wasn't a wait. When we first walked in all the employees looked at us but we weren't greeted for almost 5 minutes. Then when we were they only had a two top open by the back door which was wipe open. Yet they had two people sitting at a four top and one lady holding a table for 4 all by herself (she sat here for over 45 minutes and no one ever showed up. It was frustrating since we had a baby we were shoved against the back wall with the door open at a tiny two top table. The door we were by people were coming and going non stop it was so frustrating. Only because we kept having to move our baby. Then we started smelling weed. People were smoking on the patio right by the door we were sitting at. So I'd say definitely not a family establishment. Not a good experience. read more

Long time (1947)and well established bar and grill in a residential area is definitely worth the visit. Clean, comfy , non smoking, kid friendly, full bar and CASH ONLY so be prepared. The Pine Room Burger was fantastic, beef burger seasoned well and grilled to perfection loaded with 2 types of cheese, bacon with onion and pickles served with a crispy side of fries. Husband had the Hamburger Steak with mashed potatoes and coleslaw, hamburger steak was seared in a iron plate and smothered with a delicious gravy and onions and mushrooms ( absolutely scrumptious) Wednesday and Thursday evening are their Steak Night special so you might have a wait. We meet old friends every couple of months for lunch. This time they chose The Pine Room in St Charles. It is located in a residential area and when we arrived, we thought we were in the wrong place. This is a great local diner-type place with the kind of food I grew up with in rural Iowa. Ms T and I really enjoyed our excellent Fried Catfish sandwiches for our lunch. The L's had the Breaded Pork Tenderloin and the Hamburger Steak with gravy. All were good judging form their reactions. As I said, this is a great local place and I imagine they are pretty busy on the nights that they have specials. The dining area is not large. At lunch time on a rainy day we did not have a problem getting a table. read more

Food was amazing as always! Wednesdays and Thursdays are steak night with two sides for $15.95! The sides vary but usually have the baked potato, side salad, green beans on their list. Sometimes there are homemade desserts if you still have room! The steaks have always been perfect and a great price. The Pine Room has street parking in a quiet neighborhood setting. Skip this place. It's cash only, which should've tipped us off right away. The steak price isn't listed, and they'll absolutely take advantage of that. This place is actually more expensive than Longhorn, Lone Star, Texas Roadhouse, or Texas Land & Cattle--and it's nowhere near as good. The steak itself? Heavily seasoned yet somehow completely flavorless. We both asked for medium, but it got well done. The texture was so bad it was hard to tell what I was eating--only the shape gave it away as a steak. Sides were equally forgettable: fries for me, and obviously instant mashed potatoes for my wife. The fried pickles tasted like pickles, so I guess that's something. Service didn't help either; the server brought everything over but had zero personality. The ladies' room did not lock, and the toilet was not bolted to the floor. Overall, the food was terrible, overpriced, and the atmosphere bland. Do yourself a favor: skip this place. read more

Waited an hour in line to have them seat not one but two tables who came in after us before they got to us- as a matter of fact, they had marked us off their waiting list by mistake and I had to finally ask them if they were planning on seating us at all. Someone from our party had to leave due to the long wait- and the waitress acted like she was doing us a favor when we asked for her order to go. I have eaten here multiple times but the service is getting worse and worse and the food isn't as good as it used to be. They are understaffed and it shows. I wouldn't waste your hard earned cash (and literally cash- they are cash only in 2025) on a place that is so disrespectful to their loyal customers. Edited to add: The owner decided to reach out after posting this review and ban me and my family from her restaurant for our negative reviews. Bonnie was the rudest business owner I have ever dealt with- she had clearly stalked me online and shared personal information making herself look even worse. Do not let this place fool you! It may seem rough around the edges but definitely not! My family was not convinced when first arrived but quickly changed course once received our food! I wish I could give a 4.5, but just couldn't do a 5. The steak special (Wednesday and Thursday I believe) was great! Ribeye with two sides $14.95, really?!? Steak was delicious and tender, cooked with lots of butter which means love! Baked potato with plenty of butter and sour cream! So many calories but worth every single one! Side salad was nice break from all the richness and definitely homemade dressings! Beer selection not great and only accepts cash but seemed like a regular spot for all there. It was our first time eating here it was a small place and very clean. All three of us were very happy with the food and service. I had the hamburger steak and it was very good and extra hot and my side dish was mashed potatoes could have used a bit more gravy and I had the stewed tomatoes very good. FIRST, BRING CASH or use the ATM inside the restaurant. Credit cards are NOT accepted! The Pine Room was certainly a surprise. They are located in a sub-division and looks like any other house. Street parking is available and smoking is allowed only on the patio. We were told the Pine Room gets crowded early so we came around 5:30 p.m. It was busy when we walked in and we had to wait for a table. Several of the regulars opted to dine at the bar. The four of us opted for crab rangoon and fried clam strips for an appetizers and for dinner we ordered 2 sirloins, pork chops and crab cakes. Each meal came with 2 sides so we tried green beans, baked potato, pickled beets and 2 side salds. The food was good, our server, Adele, was totally fabulous, made us feel welcomed and the prices were affordable. This small restaurant has delicious home cooking, generous portions, and reasonable prices. As we waited for our order to arrive, we saw several orders come out with a huge Hamburger Steak smothered in mushrooms, onions and brown gravy. It was super thick, smothered in toppings and I was impressed the patron devoured this huge meal. Next was the Open Face Roast Beef Sandwiches which looked amazing as it went by. This small bar takes excellent care of their patrons, has many beloved regulars, and you feel like a family member. Stop in to watch a game, have a delicious meal or have a drink with friends. Celebrated birthday there with family. 4 people had burgers that they said were excellent. 1 person had fried chicken. He loved it. I had a sizzling sirloin with salad and baked potato. Potato was fine and I am a potato snob! Sizzling steak was good. Addictive garlicky butter - just a hint of garlic that enhanced the meat and didn't obscure it. My only gripe is that no one in St. Louis appears to know how to cook a steak to temperature. Medium rare should not come out medium well. read more

The last few times we have visited The Pine Room the service has been very disappointing. Tonight we stopped by for dinner. We realized it was steak night but decided to go in and try for a table any way. We started to sit at a table where some people had just gotten up. The server told us that the table was not clean and to put our name on the wait list behind the bar. We sat down at the bar intending to have a cocktail while we waited. The lady behind the bar did everything she could not to make eye contact. There was plenty of open seating and only 3 other people sitting at the bar who had obviously already been waited on. We waited about 10 minutes and no one acknowledged us. Another couple came and asked the same server about getting a table. The server spoke to the woman behind the bar and told her to put 2 for (name) on the wait list. We again tried to get someone's attention to get our name on the wait list and tell them we had been waiting for a while to get on the list. My husband and I looked at each other and decided to leave. The Pine Room missed out. Small businesses want business but they treat customers like crap. We walked out went to Lewis and Clark's Restaurant, got seated immediately, had an excellent server and probably better food than what is currently being served at The Pine Room. Sorry....we won't be back. This was not the first time in the last year that the customer service has been total chaos at The Pine Room. read more

My wife and I visited the Pine Room a couple weeks back. We had never been here before but my wife had heard of it. We pulled up and I thought it was just another house in a neighborhood. We saw a few people outside drinking so we knew we were there. My wife and I always sit outside so we took one of 3 outside tables. Our waitress, I don't remember her name was super sweet and very attentive. My wife ordered the Hamburger Steak and I ordered the Open Face beef sandwich. Both entrees were delicious. We were both very surprised, every satisfied when we were done eating , and surprised when the check came home reasonable this hidden gem is. If you get the chance, try it out. read more

In all fairness the Pine Room may actually deserve five stars but because I've never had their food I won't include that in my review, even though the word on the street is that it's pretty fantastic. The first time I came here I may or may not have been a little tipsy and I thought my friends just got us lost in an unassuming low key St. Charles neighborhood. Then as we approached the building I wondered why we were going to a laundromat (ok I was tipsy). Upon entering I loved the vibe. Like the someone's slightly divey basement bar. No need to to impress but welcoming. The drinks were good and cheap. The menu is your basic country cookin fare- fried chicken, steak and potatoes, fried apps. This is a pristine, country decorated little restaurant smack in the middle of a subdivision. Have no idea how they got the zoning rights to this. The food is plentiful. There are about eight or nine sides to choose from among them are: butter beans and beets. there are several berry pies to choose from for dessert during the summer. The prices are reasonable for what you get. It's a small restaurant, so it would be hard for the service to be poor. It's a very nice place to go to all around. There is outdoor patio seating on a concrete slab in front of the restaurant. Definitely note that it is a cash only restaurant. There is an ATM machine on the premises. read more

Well, most of the time they are so busy you can't get a carry out and I'm not complaining. Their portions and homestyle cooking are better than anything in a fancy place like Applebees.
