Afternoon had a long line with slow, but friendly baristas. Their menu lists no frills, no thrills kind of coffee. Considering the popularity of this chain, the quality of the coffee let me down. The cortado tasted bland, lacked milkiness, and only had a subtle espresso flavor. Cups were rather pricey for their small size. read more

The girl who took my order was very difficult to understand as she had a thick accent but was very kind and the nicest of the bunch who made our coffee. This place was always fast and efficient, and today they were just as good as they had ever been. They also replaced a dropped drink albeit reluctantly, but it literally burst in half on the side when it fell off the table. Perhaps they have been scammed before, but I had no reason to need or want to scam them. I also purchased two bags of beans and a kid's chocolate milk. They are close to 5 stars, but not quite there. Still, they are always one of my first stops on Granville Island, and I am glad that I could finally write a positive review today. A must visit for tourists looking for the best coffee in the West, and kudos for the homage to Vancouver in their names. read more

This coffee shop is located inside the Granville market. Red counter and everything. Coffee was really good. My mom got a regular coffee and I got a mocha. The only complaint I had was for the price of the coffee versus the size of the cup. I thought it could be a little bit cheaper. read more

Good quality and service was. It was quite a wait as it was summer and lots of tourists.

I am hesitant to recommend JJ Bean because it seems to be a chain that probably over expanded with 18 locations in Vancouver. It is impossible to maintain excellent coffee throughout each location when a coffee shop expands so much. As a result, the quality could vary greatly depending on the location you go to. The kiosk in the Public Market is very good. I ordered a medium latte and the drink is smooth throughout. I was very happy with it. On the other hand, I saw an order of a large latte and it looked like slop. In my opinion, the cup is way too big for the large size. It may have just been poor latte art but I would be surprised if the taste did not suffer too. Either a medium or large will have two espresso shots. The difference is the amount of milk. Unless you just really want more milk, I would highly recommend ordering a medium. Ordered a large London Fog - $4.50. It was the size of a medium Starbucks (Sbux) beverage...so not happy with that. Also, it only came with one bag of tea, Sbux gives two. Needless to say, Sbux is my go-to for London Fog. Service was very quick though. read more

JJ Bean makes some great coffee and espresso. Sure, they are a local chain and may not have the cheer leading from the coffee elites who patron Elysian or Revolver. But, it consistently makes a great cup of java and staff is very friendly. This location is more like a market style booth with no bake goods. They just concentrate on making great coffee. So, this is the first place I'll visit when doing a little sight seeing on Granville Island. The lines can be intimidating sometimes as it's the only place to get coffee on the Island. But, the staff moves the line quickly. And you can chat with the tourist while waiting. A java enthusiast from Australia told me "you Canadians make good coffee just like we do down under". I said "thanks mate, I love your Foster's, just as good as our Molson brew" Highly recommended as the first place to stop when going to Granville Island. read more

They make pretty solid lattes. Just before placing our orders, the cashier informed us that they currently had a 20-minute wait for their espresso drinks. I guess that is pretty telling about their drinks. This place is tucked at a corner inside the Granville Island Public Market. You literally just walk up to the counter, place your order, and then stand around and wait until the barista finally gets to making your order. Due to the popularity of JJ Bean and the number of people patiently waiting for their drinks, many of us were standing right in front of a florist vendor that is located right across from JJ Bean. Bless her for not shooing us away and blocking her beautiful flowers from her customers. read more

Came here for a quick takeaway coffee after wandering around Granville Market on a weekend afternoon. The kiosk was busy with quite a line so I figured it was going to be solid. After a very long wait (it seemed like some of the staff did not seem to care that they were holding up the line chatting amongst themselves while customers waited to place their orders) I finally got to the front and ordered a cortado. Apparently they aren't commonly ordered (though are on the menu) as the barista ringing me up misunderstood and then could not find it on the register, thinking I wanted a cappuccino. Finally got my cortado and it was decent, but, wasn't something I'd go out of my way for. It was decently priced, but, I didn't walk away feeling wow'd. Despite having cream, it was not super creamy - felt like maybe the ratio of the cream to espresso was a little stingy vs. other cortados I've had in the past. Agree with other reviewers that the espresso wasn't super strong tasting either. read more

I'm not a huge coffee drinker but I do tend to love trying Hot Coco or tea from different places. In the Public Market, such a overwhelming place glad to find solitude in a simple warm cup of tea & went back for a coco. 10/10 Way better than a Starbucks with the gross syrups. A passerby even mentioned how amazing their coffee was so I'm sold. Location is a small and busy kiosk, but it's the only place to grab coffee at Granville Public Market- no dedicated seating, but strong, organic coffee. I wasn't a huge fan of the Americano I ordered but it sounds like their mocha is the way to go. They have some pastries and whole beans available for purchase, too. read more

The market can be very crowded with tourists, you need a good cup of tolerance. A good cup of JJ Bean Coffee! This location has never let me down for quality. Delicious espresso! I've been here twice while visiting Granville market. It's tucked away in a corner among the many fruit stands, so you have to look closely to find it! The prices are a little high, but other than that, I greatly enjoyed my coffee. Definitely a favourite of mine. read more

A must-do stop on trips to Granville Island. In the words of m6y 3yo 'Daddy needs coffee'. 1/2 sweet hazelnut latte is the preference (with espresso JJ over Nero). They are also quite considerate of children's palates with their hot chocolate - not too hot or sweet. Helpful efficient friendly staff Great FRESH beans to bring home & grind/brew. I am a big fan of the Estate Sumatra fresh ground for our bodum/frech press. Chocolate is the active subtaste. It's a bit of an ordeal to get coffee from this particular JJ Bean. Nuzzled closely to a florist stand and a fruit kiosk, you'll have to maneuver carefully to avoid tripping over the hazards that come hand-in-hand with Granville Island's open market (namely strollers, hyper five-year-olds, and confused and indecisive tourists). The queue regularly overflows outside so some pre-caffeinated patience is required. Wile away the time by observing the hip style choices of JJ's staff or meander over to the florist, which is a mere two feet away. Generally, I'm more of a fan of Le Petit Ami and their coffee products but when in search of something cool on this hot day, Petit Ami was still offering apple cider! My search ended up leading me to JJ Bean, which if similar to their Commercial Drive location, would be pretty spectacular as well! The workers aren't the most talkative or friendly but they're incredibly efficient at moving a line through! I ordered an iced americano and it was cool, bitter (so they used a good amount of ice!), and I was out of there within 2 minutes flat. read more

Easily one of the best lattes I've ever had in my life. I drink coffee like I'm dependent on it for survival. WHICH I AM. The espresso here is ground by hand, the way it used to be done everywhere, and it makes all the difference. My drink tasted like pure happiness. The prices are about the same as Starbucks, which doesn't matter, because it'd still be worth it even if every drink cost ten bucks each. If you're at the Granville Market and love coffee, and don't end up going here, then you're basically the stupidest person who's ever lived. read more

Granville market was one of my favourite places in Vanvouver, and JJ Beans turned to be the trustworthy coffee supplier when ever I visited the place. I'm more the drip coffee kind of guy, and they always have few options for drip coffee and every time from different beans. (Actually IMHO the best way to make a cup is using a french press, but their drip machine seems like an adequate piece of machinery.) The inferno is worth testing if you like really fully bodied and dark coffee, even if they try to convince you to take something else. ;D I also brought beans back home from here and now my deepfreeze has JJ beans supply at least for few months. The staff is nice and they have good nerves which at times seems to come handy with all the crowds in the market and their line. read more

Holy random JJ Bean. I was at Granville Island today, and it was a clear case of right place at the right time. I took a coffee to go and headed for the ferry. I usually get an espresso, or americano, and both are delicious. Their muffins are awesome, with blueberry oatmeal being a personal favorite. I used to think Starbucks was an excellent coffee place, and for coffee they're still pretty good. But their food looks like it came from a vending machine. JJ Bean has BOTH good food and good coffee. Just a note that this location is extremely busy on weekends, and there is no dedicated seating. In this case, it's better to take it to go. read more

Every time we visit Vancouver, JJ Bean is one of our top priorities of "things to drink/eat" - and in a foodie haven like Vancouver, I think that's saying a LOT. The mocha and latte here are smooth, nutty, comforting, never bitter or over-roasted. After our morning buzz, we even went back in the late afternoon for the decaf house which was just as consistently good as the espresso drinks. For those with kids, they make a delightful hot chocolate that won't scald due to adjusted temperature. Coupled with a few donut holes from Lee's Donuts or a pastry from any of the other nearby vendors, this is the best breakfast in town. read more
