Update: I upgraded the stars as I came in recently after my last dreadful visit, for a much needed latte and muffin. A gentleman with dark hair Jim was quite helpful - I forgot to bring enough cash and he let me keep my latte and bring back the remaining amount (I did shortly and left a tip). The chocolate muffin was pretty good! They bake them daily on the spot. Other flavors are good but chocolate is my favorite. This to me was the highlight. Latte was fine. The new employee Eduardo was very nice and smiled quite a bit - made a decent latte and chatted. Definitely a MUCH better experience. side note: the rude and unprofessional woman earlier is no longer employed at Jitters. First impression matters. Let me preface this by saying I treat ppl how I want to be treated. We greeted the three staff members with ear to ear smile and the older woman was very rude and dismissive when we asked politely "hi we just moved in and we heard there is possibly discount or some sort of reward for new residents. Not sure if we recall correctly." The other two young staff were super pleasant and were trying to check on the monitor. As soon as we asked, the older woman stared at us really sternly with a big frown as if she's really offended and repeatedly said "no" while shaking her head nonstop. She was very unwelcoming and unprofessional. Her attitude is such a stark contrast from the nice friendly hostess at Bobby's. Here's some unsolicited advice to that woman and Jitter's management: perhaps say something to the effect of "hi sorry we don't but there's a rewards loyalty program you can take advantage of!" Instead she awkwardly stared at us until we picked up our coffee and we left. There wasn't a single positive exchange, not even a thank you. We of course did thank her despite her attitude. I felt we were being stared down to leave. Keep in mind I just moved here from NYC and boy, even NYC baristas put her to shame and I honestly have never felt any NYC barista was rude. This place is an absolute joke. There's 5 15 or 16 year old kids working who have no experience whatsoever on hoe to run a business. My order took 45 minutes to get. After a half hour of waiting I went up to the front and asked how much longer and one kid from behind the counter rudely says" ITS GOING TO BE A WHILE". The funny part was the place wasn't even busy. I had been here a few times to grab a latte or lunch sandwich and everything was fine. One day I decided to order a breakfast sandwich. It was one of the top five breakfast sandwiches I have ever had. Egg and cheese with spinach on an English muffin. It takes a minute to come out, because the egg is clearly cooked fresh. The cheese is perfectly melted and the spinach is just wilty enough. The English muffin is toasted just enough to hang onto the meltiness, but not so much that it cuts your mouth. Somewhat of a hidden gem located near the Oak Grove station (still quite a walk). The first time I came here, I ordered a breakfast croissant with egg, cheese, and bacon. Honestly it tastes pretty homemade and something I could make at home, but they only charge you $3.50 for it so you're not losing much. Plus, I rather eat that than a dunkins croissant sandwich since the egg was fluffy and fresh, not rubbery. My boyfriend ordered the Reuben and it was AMAZING. It was my first time eating a Reuben and I'm totally in love. They give so much meat and the bread was perfectly crisp with some chew to it. I'm also raving about their raspberry lime rickeys! We just gone on a strenuous hike nearby, and wanted something warm and filling that was close and easy. The atmosphere is a little plain.... nothing really stand out, however, it is cozy, clean, and spacious. There are couches, booths, or classic cafe high tops to sit at. The menu is exciting, refreshing, with lots of options and unique flavors. Gster got the Italian and I got the Caprese. Mine was actually delicious, with the perfect proportions, fresh, and delicious bread. Gster enjoyed his too. Given we ordered sandwiches, it was a little pricey, given there were no sides. I also got the hot chocolate, which was rich and tasty. I really liked the food, the vibe was low key, and the customer service was probably the best I have ever had at a coffee shop. We were not impressed. The cold brew was not very good, which we drink black so sometimes it's better when you give it some cream and sugar. But we also had a flavored latte- mocha, coconut, and almond (beach breeze maybe?). It was very weak espresso which is upsetting for my taste buds and my wallet. It was just not great for what we paid. We got a panini to share, the jitterbug and that was okay. But I think for the prices and the neighborhood, it was a letdown. Decent sandwiches and coffee in a better, local version of Panera. The food isn't particularly inventive or high quality, but I don't mind eating it. The nitro cold brew is pretty good, but it comes from Atomic roasters so that shows good taste more than anything else. Prices are pretty reasonable too. Disappointing. A great location, nice decor, even fair food... but the customer service is terrible. I live close enough to enjoy breakfast there every day, and was looking forward to bringing friends and family to relax with a cup of joe on the weekends... I was even so excited when I discovered them that I got the frequent punch card! Unfortunately, in my experience (I've only been on on weekday mornings) they rarely listen to orders, as I've had several wrong since visiting them the first time, and on the most recent visit I finally said something because I was so tired of drinking the wrong order, and was told they could make me the latte I ordered, but all they could do about it is offer me a discount on the new one or 'maybe' give it to me for free? I guess no matter what I ordered, I was supposed pay for whatever they decide to make me?? I was in awe. I've also seen a lot of reprimanding and speaking down to employees from the manager on duty when I've been there which just makes me feel bad for the employees and very uncomfortable while I'm waiting for my order. I won't be back, nor will it be my new fun spot to go with friends. I wish it was better, and maybe most people don't notice if their lattes are the wrong flavor, or if the manager is yelling at someone behind the counter in the middle of their order, but I do, and it's not an environment I'd want to be in; I really hope they make some positive changes, as it's always better to treat people with respect and kindness, both employees and customers alike. read more

First, let me say that it is awesome to have a coffee shop like this in the Melrose/Malden area! The employees are friendly and the place just has a great quaint small business feel to it. The coffee is a little stronger than I would normally take it but very good and different from any of that the big chains offer. The food is probably the best part of Jitters; unique sandwiches, hot paninis, freshly prepared breakfast sandwiches - served all day long, a small selection of delicious desserts and much more! A great place to drop-in and grab a coffee and a fresh tasty sandwich. With that said there are some things keep Jitter from being a great destination to go with friends to enjoy a coffee with a breakfast or lunch. 1. No free WiFi. Despite what is advertised on yelp there is no free WiFi which in today's world is a must have for any coffee shop! What is offered is a WiFi connection for Comcast customers, where you sign-in with your Comcast account (aka a benefit of the service you pay for as a Comcast customer). So if you're a customer of Verizon, use a wireless service or just do not have internet at all you are SOL for WiFi at Jitters. When asked about WiFi the staff advised me to jump onto the neighboring business's open WiFi connection. Aside from being a bit unethical, it did not work anyway. Free WiFi is must for a coffee shop! 2. Music, TV, noise. The décor of Jitters is great and is very inviting. Yelp says "noise level: quiet" every time I have visited, the staff had both the music going AND the TV, both at a level volume that BOTH could be easily heard at any place in the restaurant. Gives the place a downtown "sports bar" feel with a high-volume TV blaring and music going on at the same time. One noise-producing device at a time, either the TV or music please! 3. Cleanliness of dining area: Don't get me wrong, the restaurant and food prep areas seem well maintained and clean and I have NO problem ordering food. However, the dining area seemed to be relatively ignored when I visited. The floor had parts broken of sandwiches, tables and chairs were covered in crumbs (I saw a guest wipe off her table before sitting down). There were also food-serving dishes left out. I imagine this could have just been related to a rush of orders but having been back a few times it seems to not be the just a one-time thing. I'll will still drop-in to Jitters when I am in the area and still would recommend (4 out of 5 stars) Jitters. If you visit you may just want to get your order to go. The Jitterbug panini and the hullabaloo brownie are highly recommended! Great local shop! read more

My wife and I live in Malden, and we stopped by Jitters yesterday on our way back from Melrose Common, a park/playground in Melrose where we took our two-year-old son. We had driven by in the past and made a point to check it out sometime in the future. I'm so glad we did! We now have a new favorite local cafe! The coffee is excellent (I had an iced latte) and the muffins are fantastic. Also, it's a very warm, friendly, comfortable, clean atmosphere. The staff were extremely kind and inviting without being fake. The appeal of Jitters is simple: a really, really nice place with good food and great service. Jitters has the best flavored iced coffee despite being surrounded by DDs. Food is delicious. I had the lemon poppy seed muffin and tried a bite of BLAT. One bite summarized it all- very good!! The ambiance is very inviting, clean and pleasant place to enjoy tea time. I didn't give it a full 5 star because I felt the guy who served all 5 of us was a little grumpy. Bad day perhaps? I live in the apartments next door to this cafe and I have been here three times. I got slow service the first two times. As a professional services consultant, the third time really made me cringe. Issues: 1) super-slow service on weekend mornings. 2) not enough pastry selection for a cafe. 3) no clear wait line. No 1 is the primary difference between cafes like Jitters and chains like Dunkin' Donuts. The employees at jitters were distracted and disorganized (the waitress behind the counter was double-guessing with the waitress delivering several cups of coffee, lattes, etc. to a large table) while the folks at a chain like HoneyDew donuts are efficient and quick: a direct outcome of proper, basic employee training. For a weekend morning, some of the counters holding pastry were empty. No cheese Danish! I was happy to be first in line as I walked in on my third visit about an hour ago. I ended up waiting 15 minutes to just get a coffee and coffee cake as a bunch of people seated at a table suddenly realized they had to go to the counter to place their order and butted in in front of me. To be fair, they seemed European. Although I caught the eye of two of them. They knew... Suggested improvements: 1) get additional help for weekend mornings. 2) open an express line for weekend mornings...and set clear signs for wait lines. 3) consider dropping the sandwiches and focusing on better production of baked goods. So I seem to know a lot of local moms who love this place. I stopped in here one weekend morning and have nothing good to say about it. The place was deserted and the bakery case was almost empty. The only thing in it were muffins that looked like they came out of the box from BJs. I got a coffee - it was disgusting. I've been frequenting Jitters since I moved to Malden a year ago. I immediately sensed that the owners take their business seriously and make an effort to keep their customer base happy. There are signs on the tables with a direct e-mail address to the owner about any complaints a customer may have and that they will receive a response within 24 hours. I always feel welcomed whenever I come in and my unique requests were honored with a smile. True hospitality. On top of that, the prices are VERY VERY reasonable compared to other cafes. The lattes are delicious, the food is superb, I like "the sergeant" a breakfast sandwich with ham and cheese on a croissant. To me, this is how a business should be run. I live in Malden and I am not a Dunkin Donuts fan, Dunkin Donuts is the only coffee shop in Malden. You must be asking how I survive? Well, I needed good coffee so I googled coffee shop near by and Jitters came up! Its the town over, but not far at all. The second I walked it I felt so welcomed, Its cozy and warm in here. I LOVE THIS PLACE. The coffee is amazing better than Starbucks! I am a vegetarian and I always get Caprese panini's or sandwiches where ever I go, but half the time they really are not that good. "The Paninio" here at Jitters is hands down the best Caprese panini I have ever had, it is a perfect balance of pesto, tomato, mozzarella, and the bread is nice and crisps! It doesn't get soggy, which is why it is perfect. I bring people here all the time, and they all fall in love with the first bite or taste of anything! Them Muffins are fresh baked and to die for! You have to come check it out. P.S The owner is the nicest guy ever! Very friendly and really cares about his customers and service, so if you want the perfect coffee shop experience(including the music) this is the place to come. I'm a frequent flyer at Jitters, although this is my first time writing a review. I've become addicted to their iced lattes and lately, the Italian panini. It's toasted, served warm, and comes with Italian dressing on the side for dipping. My other favorite is the Ultimate Pastrami panini with sweet and spicy mustard. It's a comfortable spot. As a writer I'm always attracted to free WiFi, and the owner is happy to have us as long as we keep buying our coffee and sandwiches. (Cafe etiquette people. Pay for your seats!) I live in Malden, so this cafe is only about a ten minute walk from my house. Great location on Main Street in Melrose, right across from a forest park. I've picked up an iced coffee and gone for a scenic walk during nice weather. Perfect. read more

I live pretty close to this place and was looking for a casual lunch place to go with a couple of friends and I also had my 9 month old nephew with me, so somewhere kid friendly. I really loved the atmosphere of the place, it was big and VERY clean with big comfy couches and also tables. The menu was good, a lot of sandwich options, I got the "jitterbug" sandwich which was turkey, sun dried tomato aloi, cheese, pieces of apple and bacon on toasted sourdough. The sandwich was really good, everything was fresh and the staff was great. I gave them 3 stars (I would have given 3.5 if I could) because I felt like it wasn't quite worth the money... I got a turkey sandwich for something around 7-8 dollars, which is fine but it came with nothing on the side. Chips were separate. I feel like it's something I could make myself with less money, it was good but it wasn't MIND blowingly unique. The coffee looked really good and was average priced for espresso drinks. I would go back but I just wouldn't really seek it out. If you want a place that is comfortable to do work then this is perfect, or a casual bite. read more

I'm something of a regular at this place, and I'm so glad to have found it. I live in Malden, about a mile from Jitters. It really is too bad that there isn't something like this in Malden, but I'm more than happy to patronize such a good-quality Melrose place. One of the things I love about this Jitters (and Tim) is that they are very child-friendly. I've been going there with my toddler for over a year now, and they know my son by name. The first thing I noticed during my first visit is that they have THREE high chairs, which is so unusual! It is my go-to meeting spot for getting together with other moms for this very reason. My son always gets a muffin, and though he has gotten better about dropping crumbs all over the floor, he does still make a mess. The staff has never complained. The sandwiches are outstanding. It's hard to say which is my favorite. Maybe the Jitterbug, and maybe the Italian. In the Summer I'm pretty loyal to the iced coconut coffee, but with the colder weather now here I've switched to a medium hot unflavored, and am very happy with it. The cafe is clean and spacious. The bathrooms are down a long hallway, but they're well-maintained. I believe they're in the process of installing changing tables in the bathrooms. This place is a winner. I just got done eating their signature "Sargent" breakfast sandwich, which was amazing. The owner pays attention to detail, is personable, and cares if your happy. Jitters Cafe is a surprising treat at the Oak Grove Windsor Apartment Complex shopping center. The first time I went in I wasn't expecting anything special but boy was I mistaken. Their sandwiches were delicious using the best boars head meats. The desserts were also extremely tasty. Coffee is not that bad and the overall ambience of the building is relaxing and great for work. Only reason I am giving Jitters four stars instead of five is because of the prices. They were also incredibly receptive to and helpful about my dietary restrictions (unfortunately, no vegan pastries - good sandwiches though!). Awesome friendly staff - which is often lacking in this area. Got an almond milk mocha - somehow a tiny bit too sweet, if that's possible, probably because of almond milk AND mocha. Their large is GIGANTIC. Coffee is good for the price. Also the bathrooms are unfortunately far away from the actual cafe since I think they share a building with some other businesses. This review is long overdue. I just wanted to say thank you to the staff at Jitters for being so accommodating and welcoming to our large group of new moms with newborns in tow. We have been going into the cafe at least once a week, taking over the corner with the couches and spending a couple of hours eating lunch and hanging with the babies. The staff has been great about everything, making delicious food, walking over strollers and never making us feel uncomfortable about breast feeding. GREAT PLACE!! read more

This place is awesome, disappointed that I haven't been here before! They have both ample indoor and outdoor seating, the wifi runs great, the guy at the front service counter was very warm and welcoming. Aside from the overall atmosphere being fantastic, the music volume was satisfactory enough to get some work done. While I was there, there were other patrons doing work on their laptops and others just talking with friends. Its sort of in a random location, but that probably adds to its uniqueness since you need to go out of your way to find it. Easily accessible from the Oak Grove T Stop though. I ordered the jitterbug panini and within 10 minutes I was eating a super fresh and delicious sandwich. I also got the iced tea, which tasted typical to other places.
