I really want to like this place as the sandwiches are good but sometimes it can take 20-30 mins to make a bagel and the two women staff are unprofessional. Laughing, on their phones, not acknowledging you when you come up to the counter and stuffing their face with food while standing right there. Hooray it's my 100th review! I'm so happy it's a place that I enjoyed and get to give 5 stars! I was looking for a sandwich place to grab a bite before I headed into work, and boy am I glad that I stopped here. I'm not a fan of their location because there isn't much parking (it's near a residential community which is permit parking only) so I was lucky to grab a spot in front. So I walked in expecting a small sandwich shop, and it was so much better than that. They have a warm, comfortable vibe matched with some comfortable couches and tables. When I walked to the counter the gentleman helping me couldn't be nicer. He clearly took pride in this place and their food. When I told him it was my first time here he explained everything that I would be in for. He showed me the baked goods, drinks and menu options. I ended up grabbing some chips, a Jitterbug sandwich, and a water. The guy behind the counter told me it was their signature sandwich, and that I'd enjoy it, so lets get into it. The chips? Stupidly good, they were a kettle chip (I think) salt and vinegar flavored. It was the right amount of saltiness to compliment my sandwich and definitely my new favorite chips. The Jitterbug? Better than I could have expected it! The apple perfectly complimented the turkey, the toasted bread was a great crunchy eliminate and the aioli that came on the side was sweet with a little kick. It was the perfect sandwich. I was so impressed that I grabbed some more chips, a muffin and a cup of tea for the road. The tea had great flavor, but the muffin wasn't my favorite. But thats ok, there were so many baked goods to try, I'll just try something else next time! I also loved that there were some people who brought their computers to use the wifi and also grab lunch. Point of full disclosure- my son works here. Before he did, we would occasionally order from Jitters and enjoyed it, especially the Jitterbug sandwich, the chocolate chip cookie, and the cold brew coffee. Now that my son works at the cafe, we have been making our way through all the menu items. Everything has been good. Some items are better than others. I especially like the tuna melt, the No name, and the jitterbug. The salads have been solid too. Coffee drinks are good although I sometimes add an extra shot because I like my coffee extra strong. Save room for the cookie or the brownie (although the latter is very sweet)! read more

This has to be the best cafe in Melrose. There is plenty of comfortable seating and the location has a very pleasant ambiance about it. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. I've seen book clubs, dates, etc. in this location and believe it's perfect for just about anyone! The sandwiches are very tasty and they have some of my favorite coffee roasts. Couple things and will start with the positive. Coffee and food is good. And I suppose that's the most important and why I'm giving 3 stars. Staff friendly but seemed a little overwhelmed. Took 20 min for a small breakfast sandwich, though it did seem made to order so that's a positive for me. My main issue here is the ambiance which is very early 2000s chic, but looks very dated. Trying a bit too hard to be fancy but the overall finished product is underwhelming. Needs more light. No art on the walls. Music is horrendous rnb. Menus are tiny. Ceiling needs an upgrade. Just a weird vibe. Easy and quick fixes would be legit rotating art instead of a bunch of mirrors from home goods. Get rid of the tacky tv screen menus and put in chalk or other hand written. Different music for the love of god. Swap out the majority of the lighting for something a bit brighter and unique. You've got only one side of windows so the lighting becomes paramount. Toss in an mini upright piano against a wall somewhere. Not sure what's going on in the kitchen but 20 is a long time for a little breakfast sandwich, and it wasn't that busy. Look critically how this is handled. Not many options for cool coffee shops in Melrose unfortunately which means a wide open market for someone with a vision. I'll probably begrudgingly be back at some point because I live here but this place needs alot of work. read more

What I love most about Jitters is that in their chai actually tastes like and contains chai tea versus the usual sugar filled chai flavor concoction that larger companies use. Cute little coffee shop with nice seating and free Wi-Fi. I just happened upon this little shop in the evening. They have diverse latte menu with many different signature flavors. I had a signature coffee with hazelnut and my hubby had a lime rickey. The coffee was decent but the lime rickey tasted a little artificial. So disappointed. I have been here before and had good experiences but today, I felt like they really didn't care about the garbage that they served me. Ordered a avocado toast with a fried egg. Wasn't that busy. It took about 20 minutes to get the order. Toast arrived ice cold, even the fried egg was cold. The egg was broken, yolk completely overcooked. Looked partly scrambled. Avocado tasted a little off. It was looked like a mess. I was hungry so I just ate it. Also, tables were dirty. It was slow with a lot of available tables but most of them were dirty and sticky. Stumbled upon this adorable cafe while in Boston for a Sox game. Super cute and cozy spot, with couch/casual seating, as well as table seating. Great selection of made to order breakfast and lunch options and a killer coffee list! The specialty lattes all sounded amazing, but we only tried 2 - one banana coconut and one peppermint chocolate - both were delicious. The sergeant breakfast sandwich was on point and the banana Nutella croissant was such a guilty pleasure! We also got a banana strawberry smoothie that was fresh and delish! read more

I live by this place, so I come pretty much all the time. They have one of those "buy 10 of these get 1 free" card things. I've gotten many free things. They have pretty good coffee and their original line of flavored coffee drinks (Nutty Irishman with limited syrup is pretty good). I actually come here mostly for the convenience and their ham, egg, & cheese croissants. I'm quite the fan of those. I was so excited to find what sounded like a decent breakfast place. After all, i was staying at the RedRoof Inn on Bdwy in Saugus- need I say more !? Never having been to Melrose, i was delighted to get off a stretch of grunge and fund thus lovely town. Is this just another example of boring New England? The gal who took my order was super nice, friendly and efficient in her ARMy gray t shirt. I guess dress codes are out, but come on, something a little bright and welcoming. There are a few. "Food" magazines on a coffee table. A country station plays in the background and some sully morning talk show is on the tv. :( Both sources if noise get a "thumbs down," from me and 3 1/2. Every time I go to Boston I stop here. The food is unbelievably good and the customer service has always been impecable. The place has this great ambiance and it's a real joy to come here. I am very picky (my sister would say high maintenance) about what and where I eat. I like going here because as much as I love Starbucks & Dunk, I love to patronize a Mom n' Pop when I can. The coffee is pretty good, the breakfast sandwiches are on on point but be prepared to wait a bit for your food as they are a small operation. My only real critique is the overall attitude of all the girls I have interacted with there. The owner (at leaset who I believe to be the owner) is quite friendly when he's working the counter, but all of the other workers I have ever interacted with there literally never even crack a smile, never mind say "Good Morning" or "Have a good one!". So we just moved to the area and walked over on Sunday morning for coffee and maybe breakfast. Unfortunately, their espresso machine was down (we only found out because we kept hearing the girl tell the kid working the register to stop selling espresso drinks. He apparently was not hearing her and he never told any guest the machine was down.) Needless to say, I ended up with water. My roommate and I both ordered breakfast sandwiches. He got a bacon, egg, and cheese on an english muffin. I got sausage and cheese on a croissant. My roommate enjoyed his sandwich. Nothing special, but certainly worth the walk and would definitely come back. While I didn't necessarily enjoy my sandwich, the croissant was the best I have ever eaten. It was absolutely unreal. As far as service, we ate in and the service just seemed kind of crazed. Our service personally wasn't effected, but just watching the workers run around like chickens without heads made for not the most relaxing breakfast experience. I do have to reiterate what others have said regarding the pastry case. It was incredibly empty and nothing looked homemade. They had a couple different varieties of muffins and some brownies but that was it. They looked old and incredibly unappetizing. All in all, I would love to come back and try the coffee since I was unable to this past weekend and I will certainly be back for a quick breakfast on the weekends every once in a while. Really nice place. There is "park at the curb" in front or a parking lot in the back. It was very easy to get parking- glad I came in. Staff were very naturally friendly and very helpful as well. I have celiac and was offered an open faced panino with GF bread which as delicious. The hazelnut latte was expert level. A quiet location w/various seating choices (always a perk.) Fantastic homemade breakfast sandwich, executed and prepared simply but well. They suggest to add their housemade sriracha aioli on the side, and I concur. Their flavored coffee is brewed as such, not an addition of syrup. I would've liked it to be a little bolder, but honestly it was pretty good. This place is incredibly homey and adorable for being in a random shopping plaza esqe location. A friend and I stopped in for a quick lunch after hiking in the Fells nearby and it was the perfect location (parking for her, mere minutes to the T down a cute path for me). We both had the Jitter special sandwich - the intriguing combo of roasted turkey, applewood bacon, pepperjack cheese, granny smith apples, red onions, sundried tomato aioli on sour dough. It comes pressed and they do an excellent job of not making it too crispy (ick to paninis that make your mouth hurt). It didn't need the bacon in my opinion, but I love the fresh apple addition. I will definitely be back to try the delicious looking muffins and cookies/brownies if I'm in the area again :) read more

I definitely want to like this place, its a small town cute little spot. That being said I haven't had the best personal experience with their food here. The food definitely has good taste and I enjoy their coffee. But the first time i ordered their buffalo chicken panini I was half way through eating it when i realized there was tiny fibers stuck on to the panini. I went up and told staff and they did offer to give my money back or make me a new sandwich. I think they had been cleaning off the panini press with a cloth, and the fibers from the cloth were left behind and then pressed into my panini. The second time I ordered their chicken pesto sandwich and i find a small black hair on the sandwich. The most recent time i ordered Caesar salad I swear I found a similar black hair in the container of the salad. The amount of times I have found hair/fiber in my food from here really makes me not want to go back and try other foods they offer. To be completely honest, their Caesar salad really isn't worth ordering either. It's literally just a bunch of lettuce thrown into a container, a few croutons and a little bit of shredded cheese sprinkled in. I know its just Caesar salad so their isn't much to expect but there isn't anything special to it, its a bare minimum salad, you could probably just go to store and buy a better one pre-made for less money. And for the amount of salad they give you in the container, they only give you a tiny cup of dressing to put on it. It barely coats the salad, I was literally eating dry salad... which is borderline ridiculous to me if I'm paying $7.50 for it. I shouldn't have to ask for extra dressing either when the tiny cup they give doesn't even cover it to begin with. To think you have to pay $3 extra dollars for chicken to be added, it isn't worth $10.50 just to get chicken added on top of this basic bare minimum salad, sorry. That would literally cost more money for a basic bare minimum salad with chicken than it does for a panini, which is their menu staple for lunch time. How does that literally make any sense? Again, the taste of their food is good (aside from the lame salad situation), but due to my repeated unfortunate experiences having food/fiber in my food I have to only give them 2 stars.
