I had been looking for a place that offers vegan pizza for ages and I'm glad I found Catalina 's. I highly recommend it. I've even have gotten pizza for nonvegans who always said it was very good. A couple of them were curious about what kind of cheese it was only because it tasted a little bit different, but no one said a bad word about it, though. If you're not a vegan and think that vegan food is somehow substandard, guess again. The pastas are also excellent. Really. ALL the food I have ever had from Catalina's is delicious. When I first moved to Malden in 2017 I tried catalinas pizza and I can't say I was a fan. So I decided not to order from them. Then recently I started seeing a local vegan influencer on Instagram mention how great of a place it was and how many options. Not that I'm vegan but I do prefer to eat their diets. I decided to order on grubhub or one of those delivery apps. I got a vegan buffalo chicken pizza with ranch and OMG it was one of the best pizzas I've ever had!!! I do think the price was very high, I don't know if this is because of the third party app and if it would be cheaper in person or ordering direct. But after seeing how many vegan options they have I will most definitely be ordering from here again! read more

They have vegan options and lots of them which is more than I can say for most restaurants, including pizza shops, this includes vegan cheese and vegan meat substitutes. 5+ stars for an extensive selection of vegan options I knew when ordering from here that there must be some reason for the wide divide between high and low reviews, and I'm going to say that for me, the pizza dough was what took away from my inclination to give them 5 stars solely based on the wide variety of vegan and vegetarian friendly items. The dough is fine, I've had much worse (every Greek pizza place), but it wasn't amazing and I see what others were saying with their negative comments. If I was solely rating the pizza dough and not the fact that I love all of the vegan choices, I'd say it's probably a 3. It's just not amazing and memorable in a positive way for me. The sauce was adequate but also didn't leave me craving it. Takeout order was made promptly in the quoted time. Online ordering system was efficient and had a couple of new customer teaser coupons, but don't love that it adds on a $1 platform fee. Street parking isn't easy in this area, but luckily I came during an off hour and parking was available. I'm going to end by saying, they offer a niche you cannot find in many restaurants/ pizza places in the area, which is an extensive selection of veg friendly options and for this, I am inclined to round up any of my opinions. Their strength lies with the sandwich menu, offering soft rolls with tasty toppings. The Impossible steak and cheese is a personal favorite and well-seasoned. I'm eager to try the Impossible chicken Parm next. Catalina's is far from perfect and their pizza is niche (a sweeter/spiced red sauce isn't for everyone), the internal dining space could be more inviting (this place does more takeout), and the parking can be dicy. Overall, the pizza is pretty tasty. I like the fact that the crust is crispy. I especially like the fact that it's not overbearing with oregano. I did put it in my own convection oven to make a little bit warmer. That way I was able to get the true effects of the flavors. This meal would be rated a 1 but because this is the first negative experience I have had with this restaurant I am giving them a 3. I was having a rough day and looking forward to getting home, putting my feet up and getting some takeout. I selected a cold veggie sub and asked for "mayo, lettuce, tomato, extra pickles, extra onions and salt & pepper". What I got was a little bit of tomato, pickle and onion w/s&p no lettuce. Due to the lack of meat I fully expect a veggie sub to be FILLED with veggies. This is not a meal and the fact that someone felt ok to serve this and had the audacity to charge me $11 for it is quite concerning. I was so happy to recently find this restaurant as a vegetarian it is hard to find places with not only plant based options but TONS of options. In all honesty I will probably order from them again but I will never order something I haven't already had and I certainly would never order a "sub" from them again. Ordered takeout for my coworkers for lunch just because and decided to try a new place. Catalina's was a big hit! I ordered a mix of different pastas, chicken wings, and potatoes wedges. The menu is really varied and pretty extensive. The food came on time, hot and well packaged with lots of condiments, sides and utensils. Everything looked like it was made fresh. The lasagnas and chicken alfredo with broccoli were a big hit but everything tasted delicious. The pictures on this help doesn't really reflect how good the food smelled or looked. I wished I took a picture! My coworkers raved about the food and everyone asked me where I ordered the food from. Now we have a new to-go place to order lunch from and I am so happy to support this small business! I want to try the subs, calzones and pizzas next time. Can't wait! I dont know where to begin... so we were sitting at home and I forgot to take something out for dinner (I use that excuse several nights a week) and thought lets look for somewhere to go... So I went to Foodler and found a close pizza shop that was actually TRIPLE points.. SCORE, how did I miss this before. So we figured lets give them a shot.. Hubby got a Cheese Pizza ( how hard is it to F*** that up?!) Ooh just wait The rest of shared an Asian Chicken Salad (it had canned peas on it), Steak Bomb (Uh Oh) and some fried Mushrooms... So a little over an hour later (place is about 4 blocks from me but with all this snow and the roads lately - I expected a wait) Food comes - Guy rings my doorbell maybe 374 times - Im on the second floor give me a moment to get there & then is SUPER rude when I get there - like throws the food at me & walks away... Get upstairs & the pizza box feels empty the whole time Im walking upstairs and I open its the thinnest pizza ever, wish I took a pic of it sideways its like paper thin... and it was cold - Hubby had to literally microwave it before eating... I wonder if extra cheese would have made it actually stay together as it was soo thin when it was cut all the slices separated (ok enough rant about the pizza) but it was actually OK tasting had it been warm it might have been much better The salad like I mentioned had canned peas on it... The description said peas but I thought maybe they would go with the whole asian theme & MAYBE they were wasabi peas, BUT NOPE... Canned peas.. the chicken was flavorless and just lacking... So I called back & told them the order that was just delivered (Oooohh backing up as soon as I placed the order the restaurant called me to confirm how I wanted the sub cooked - so weird that of all things to not come its that))!! So I call them back & the kid who answers is like "Umm I dont know what you are talking about" someone else then gets on the phone I explain the sub didnt come and he says he will make another one & send it over... Then about 30 mins later I get a call Im downstairs, so we went downstairs and waited 5 mins NO ONE THERE... Then I call back & again the Kid has no idea what Im talking about and the other person gets on the phone again & I explain - there is NO ONE THERE.. to which he starts yelling about the driver and calling him an idiot... Then he apologizes (and I will say this second man that I kept talking to was nice & TRYING to help the situation, but at this point its been 1.5 hours since the original order and I dont even want the sub anymore) he tells me, the driver isnt answering my calls please let me call you back... 20 more minutes NO CALL - at this point I dont want the food, I just want my $$ back... He says, Ill make you a new sub & drive it over myself.. Im like no Thank you (ooh I had to call them back too - they never called me back) I just want the $$ - He offers to recredit the foodler (he also offered me free items next time - but I dont think there will be a next time)... I hang up, sad because the menu was QUITE extensive & they had several great sounding things and TRIPLE POINTS.. .but the Hubby refuses to go to places that royally screw up the first time.. So I hang up & am just done with the whole event... Then the man calls me back 20 mins later, turns out the driver went to a Diff address (keeping in mind he had already delivered to me that evening the other items - Unless it was a diff person) and at that diff address the people took the sub... So he was sorry and should he make another one, to which I just laughed again and said No thank you just a credit... WHO TAKES SOMEONE ELSES FOOD??!! Weird... Tonight I ordered Catalina's through grub hub and accidentally ordered the "plant-based" bbq chicken pizza assuming that this also had vegan cheese. When we received it (and tasted it) we could tell that it was dairy cheese. After speaking with a gentleman at the restaurant, he confirmed that it was not vegan cheese. He informed us that to order the vegan version of this, you would have to order the VEGAN plant based bbq chicken pizza. We just hadn't scrolled down far enough on the menu to see this option. The restaurant was understanding of the error and hand delivered a new pizza to us with vegan cheese in a timely manner (even through they normally do not deliver to Medford). We are very grateful for their kindness. And for the record the vegan version is far superior in taste. Thank you Catalina's! We will be ordering from you again (and carefully selecting the VEGAN option next time). read more

The food is delicious, great prices, fast delivery and order. My daughter is gluten free and vegan and she can get a pizza which is wonderful even for people no gf or vegan. I am vegetarian and they have lots of options. My son has slices or steak and cheese and he loved it. We get fries and onion rings all the time and they give so much in an order. Ordered with the Yelp App, I am seeing a trend that when you order using Yelp, it seems to take a while... I ordered a Fresh Mozzarella Basil Salad and to be honest when it arrived, it looked a little sad. The lettuce didn't look fresh and I didn't think there was enough mozzarella. Well, looks can be deceiving because it tasted amazing! Once I cut up the mozzarella there was plenty of it and the lettuce tasted fine. I do wish there were more cherry tomatoes, I counted only about 4 of them in this big salad and think a few more really would have made it better. I was going to add some prosciutto to my salad but it was $4! I mean, is that a little steep for a couple pieces of dried ham? The thing I was most happy about had to be the bread. I got fried zucchini (splurge), steak tips, and salad. Zucchini was so hard barely edible. Steak was tiny nubs and tasted like the beef of a Chinese beef teriyaki and was so salty my tongue hurts. There are many many pizza places in Malden, and quite a few bad ones. This is clearly one of the best. The new owners have spruced up the place and and very friendly. I had a pizza with several toppings and it was perfect! The veggies were fresh, there was a good balance of the meat and veggie toppings, and each slice held together well, so I didn't need to use a fork. The crust was also just right--cooked just the right amount (slightly browned), but still soft and flavorful. It was thick enough but didn't have the styrofoam taste that some thicker crust pizza does. read more

Stinks you've been closed down so long. I ordered you Fresh Chicken fingers atleast once a day for Maplewood St. And I have been ordering from there for the almost 3yrs I've lived in Malden Everett. And when my sound and I found out suddenly last week that I will be moving this coming Sunday all we wanted was to order Catillina's one last time before I moved away. And every time I looked to order it said temporarily closed week after week. Until I finally saw your closed to the last week of February which is unfortunately about two weeks after I'll be gone. So this will be my final review for a while atleast. But your food wether it's the chicken fingers , pizza, chicken parmesan sub or the steak tip dinner the food was always top notch. And the proportions always more than fair for the Extremely reasonably priced food even when everywhere else jacked up prices at astronomical rates you always kept the prices at what I felt where real. And was more about making the customers happy so instead of making say $10 profit off and order for one order you'd make $4-$5 knowing the customers would keep returning due to the quilty of your all your food and keep us customers happy with quality, quantity and overall price of the food and you where right atleast I feel that way. You showed you cared about the happiness of your customers. And that love for your customers would show each and every time I called to order. Everyone was always extremely nice on the phone while ordering and patient when I'd call to order and then change my mind about something midway through. Also your delivery drivers where always extremely nice and even though we'd speak for less than a minute each time I felt like I was appreciated as a customer and wasn't just someone that they dropped the food collected the money and left with little to no interaction. Your driver's would always be polite and in gauge in some sort of short conversation wether it be about the weather outside or they would ask how my leg was doing everytime I limped to the door I was always asked how I was feeling and if it was getting better. Sometimes even share a short story of a similar experience which that extra 30seconds of conversation would mean allot to me. And there was one driver who would always call me Boss everytime he came to the door who would always ask how I was doing and even if I didn't order for a few weeks after that he would still remember even small details of our prior conversation which showed to me he truly listened to what I was saying. So in conclusion I believe Catillinas is not only the best pizza/sub shop in Malden I'd say they are one of if not the best of the entire Boston area. And I am basing that off of the entire experience from calling in the order, to food being delivered and of course the amazing food that was brought right to my door with a smile. OMG. All around awesome-ness. First time ordering here, since I had downloaded the app for grub hub - looked for places near me, this popped up. And I have to say, best choice I've ever made! I ordered the chicken and broccoli calzone with a side of mushroom poppers. The poppers are ok. Their good, but I really wanted the zucchini!!! But I will MAKE these mushrooms taste great just because of the curtousey phone call to let me know that they didn't have the zucchini! Lol. So, made my order at 8:30, got my order by 8:55. I stopped by here for a quick lunch at 11:30AM. I couldn't really read the menu as it was written in chalk and badly faded, but I came, I saw, and I wanted that beautiful cheese pizza sitting there spinning around. $1.75 a slice for cheese? Yes! Did it taste as good as it looked? Oh yes! The cheese was delightfully chewy, as it should be. This indicates that they use quality low-moisture whole milk mozzarella. The crust was crispy and chewy at the same time. The sauce was a bit uneven, but tasted pretty good! The fact that there are parts of the slice that taste more basil-y than other parts suggests that they make their sauce from scratch. Was it greasy? Just a little bit, but it's all from the cheese. I love pizza with toppings as much as everyone else, but if I am to judge the quality of a pizza, it has to be a basic cheese slice to evaluate the quality of the cheese, sauce, and crust. Catalina's Pizza deserves your patronage. It's under new management, and it came to my attention when I noticed Catalina Pizza's brochure conspicuously stuck in the door jamb of my condo complex in Malden, just a half mile away. Normally, I'd just have tossed what I would have deemed just another pesky circular. However, I quickly noticed that the headline very prominently stated that the plain Cheese Pizza only costs an unusually low $7, and the Pepperoni Pizza only costs $1.50 more. I figured that if their Pizza was as good as their Marketing brochure, then I'd have found a new GR8 place for good but inexpensive pie. When trying Pizza, I feel the acid test is to try one with very few ingredients. So, I purchased the $8.50 Pepperoni Pizza. The dough, the sauce, the cheese mix, and the quality of the Pepperoni were all first rate. And, the cost of extra ingredients is quite low. Catalina's is moderately spacious, with seating for 29 people including six 4-seater tables and 5 stools located next to a shelf overlooking the street. There are also 2 TV's playing at low volume. FYI, I occasionally eat Pizza at Vinnie's, also in Malden, which Yelp reviewers have given a well-deserved 4.5 stars. I acually rate Catalina's Pizza at the same level, but I gave it five stars today because I want Catalina's current 4-star average to rival Vinnie's. So sue me! Here's some background info I gleaned from Jim, the new owner. He's young (28), originally from Turkey, he bought this business from the previous owner (the quality of the Pizza there was sub-standard), and this is the very first business he's ever owned. He makes a GR8 Pizza and runs a good business, which is already quite popular, because he's been in the Pizza business for more than 4 years, and he's performed every job associated with the Industry. Perhaps the real reason Jim succeeds where his predecessor failed is because he's a smart, educated man who uses his intelligence to make sure Quality is always paramount.
