I was debating between giving this place a 3-star or a 4-star. I'm visiting Houston from LA for the next few days and had JINYA as my first meal. Aesthetically, this place has a nice decoration inside. Food presentation was also superb. Upon arriving, we were seated and waited a while before our server came to us. It felt like a long time. She did apologize for the wait (maybe not knowing we were seated) - she was great at checking in after this. Service: 4/5. When it comes to the food, personally, I felt that it was average. I had the Black Tonkatsu, which needs more flavor. The toppings given were the perfect amount though. Chashu and noodles were cooked perfectly. It's just not enough flavor. I'd give this a 3.5/5. We also had the Chef's Special, Spicy Maze-Men. This was a no for me. I'm comparing this to the mazemen and mazesoba I've had in Cali. This Mazemen was salty and did not have enough umami flavor to it. They also added kimchi as a topping. Most places in Cali have a poached egg to mix the ramen, JINYA doesn't, so I'm not familiar with this. For the Chef's Special: 3/5. Would I come back if I'm ever in the area again? Sure. But it is not one of those places that I'd be craving. read more

Consistency is what I love about Jinya. I've been to pretty much all of their locations in the Houston area & I have to say that I've left satisfied 95 percent of the time. I remembered giving Jinya a try at the downtown location in 2015 and it was a rocky start, more so because the service was subpar. I'm glad they were able to do their best to get it together. Here's what we've ordered. * Pork Gyoza- it was delicious. Came out fresh & piping hot. The filling was full of flavor and moist. I felt like I was eating some soup dumplings because it was that juicy. 4.7/5 * Chicken Ramen- I thought it was good enough to finish but I felt that the broth was boring & needed salt. The creatively was really lacking & just needed more ingredients to amplify this bowl of soup. 3/5 * Tonkotsu Black- one of my favorite items at Jinya, I've never been disappointed when I get the Tonkotsu Black. The broth is rich, flavorful & creamy. The chashu was tendered & just melts in your mouth. The egg was cooked the way I like, which is runny on the inside. The noodles were firm to my liking as well. 5/5 Overall I was pretty satisfied. Our server Thomas provided quick and nice service but I felt that he was more attentive to his other tables than ours. Love the look inside, option to seat at table or bar. This is my first time at a Ramen restaurant. I'm sad to say I didn't like the food. The taste was not what I expected, I only ate a few spoons of it. The egg was a seasoned egg, it was not cut in half and it looked over cooked but maybe the look was the season. Loved the decor and ambiance at this place! It's one of my sister's favorite places in The Woodlands area, so she and I had dinner there last night. Our server was absolutely outstanding. He was informative, gracious, attentive, and efficient. We experienced a bit of an anomaly when the power went out, but the staff remained calm and friendly. The power did come back on before we left, and there were still people coming in, so it's obviously pretty popular! I enjoyed most of the dishes; however, I did find it all to be under seasoned. They have a text system if you don't have a reservation and it gets busy where you can put in your number and receive a text when seats become available. That being said, any wait time is worth the wait here. The ramen is consistently delicious and hits the spot on rainy days, which in Texas is half the year. I've been to this restaurant only once and it was for my birthday. This is my second time but this time I am at the Spring location this time. I ordered the Spicy Vegan Ramen! The broth was very rich! The reason o ordered the vegan ramen is because I had a close friend rave about it! I love the amount of vegetables that they include in it. The green onions give it such a great savory flavor. You almost forget that it's vegan!! I've officially found my new favorite dish when I come back here! I love the design concept of the space. It's a small space but they made it appear big by adding mirrors all around and making the seating communal. The chairs are thin, possibly bambooor wooden. Was looking for ramen and Yelp led us here! We ordered 2 kids combo meals, the Jinya Tonkatsu Black Ramen and the Tonkatsu Original. I was super impressed with the amount of food in the kids meal- chicken ramen, chasu rice, fried chicken and vanilla ice cream for dessert. My kids couldn't finish their food so my hubby and I had a little extra to eat in addition to our ramen bowls. I really enjoyed my order of Tonkatsu original, the broth was so flavorful, the noodles were perfectly cooked, my pork was tender and yummy, and the amount of toppings were just right. Amazing food and alternative seating arrangements. My wife and I visited this location about a week and a half ago early in the evening. The place was full and we were told we would have to wait around 40 minutes to be seated. Thankfully, we were given a spot within 20 minutes. I hadn't seen pictures of the establishment or read much about it, so I was pretty shocked when we were guided to a table with four other people on it. While it was odd, I assume that this is how these places are so my wife and I just enjoyed the new experience. The waiter was amazing, giving detailed explanations of the Menu and even offering us deals. We started with the Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna and ordered the Tonkotsu Spicy and JINYA Tonkotsu Black as our entrees. The Spicy Tuna was amazing, with the hot crunch of the rice mixing well with the soft, cold texture of the tuna. I would warn that it does have a kick, but nothing unbearable. I enjoyed that the Tonkotsu Spicy came with the spicy paste on the side so I could decide how spicy I wanted my broth to be. I always have an issue when ordering spicy Ramen bowls because they're either too spicy to consume at a comfortable pace or lack flavor. While the contents of the Ramen bowl are great, the star of the show is their broth. I could drink any soup that contains that broth and it's one I am still thinking about regularly. Overall, I recommend this place to anyone who enjoys Asian cuisine. The portions are on the small side, but the prices aren't too high and you will most likely leave this place with a very satisfied palate. read more

They are an absolute joke and are just spoiling the Jinya brand name. I have been to multiple Jinya locations around US and it is an absolute worst location to go to. They also charge unnecessary extra costs when you substitute items in Ramen which no other location does. On asking about it the manager and servers were quite rude about it. From the service to the food, everything here deserves 5 stars! We were greeted at the door and seated, but we did not want to sit at a table with other people since we had babies with our group and did not want to disturb other patrons, so we moved and sat at nearby booth. I can't remember our young server's name, but he was so nice and very helpful in answering our questions. The bao was good, I had the impossible one to make it vegan, the fish tacos were quite small for my liking, although I can understand since they are supposed to be appetizers. They were spicy but hit the spot. I loved the tempura shrimp. I thought that shrimo was the best appetizer, it's supposed to be like Bang Bang shrimp and I thought that was but that was the appetizer that I would get next time as well. I had the creamy vegan ramen because that is the one that I can eat since I am not eating the meat, but also because it has such great reviews on here. I added wonton shrimp to it and had that of the side, and although it was fine, I don't think you really need to because the ramen has enough flavor in it that you don't need the shrimp added to it. The main thing that I thought was so incredibly nice was that my baby's booty had fell off, and somebody ran out to us before we got to our car and gave me back my baby shoe, which is such a life saver because their shoes fall off everywhere. I thought that in itself was deserve of praise! My absolutely favorite ramen restaurant when in the Houston area! Love their ramen options! Noodles always have a good "bite" or are al dente. I do not like when ramen noodles are too soft and soggy. This is my first time trying a ramen bar(Im a pho type of gal) but I thoroughly enjoyed my ramen. I had the JINYA tonkotsu black and my friend had the spicy chicken ramen. My broth was rich and creamy and the pork was very tender. I enjoyed the seaweed addition.There were 3 sauces that were at the table that were complementary and I added 2 to my bowl and it made it even better. Only issue I can think of is I wish there was more meat in my bowl, there were only 2 small pieces. Also the description said seasoned egg but I didn't feel like the egg was seasoned it tasted like a regular egg to me. I would have given this place 5 stars because I did truly enjoy the flavor of the ramen overall but my friend had actually been to another branded ramen bar and she said this restaurant was a bit more pricey than others she has tried. Also a card on the table said you could get more noodles just ask and so she got more noodles and she was charged extra for them. She said at the other ramen spot the extra noodles are free. So over all I enjoyed my experience and I will probably go to a location on my side of town and try a different bowl. read more
