Went to Akashi for the 1st time tonight for Hibachi. Thomas was our server. WOW!!!!! I was amazed by Thomas, he was attentive to our needs and checked back to make sure we were okay! The Hibachi show was okay but the food stole the show. The Hibachi Chef made sure everything was to order, he even had me check my filet to make sure it was done the way I wanted. The quantity of food was amazing and made the cost well worth it. I consider myself a Hibachi affecianado and this restaurant is the best I have had in years!!!! This is one of the best Asian Restaurants in our area. The atmosphere is amazing and something like you would see at a high end restaurant in Downtown Houston. Their menu includes: Japanese, Chinese, Sushi, and Family Meals. My dinner was delicious and would order it again. I had Dragon & Phoenix, which is Half General To's Chicken / Half Shrimp and vegetables sautted in a white sauce. $16.95 Their food and presentation and atmosphere is amazing, and they have reasonable prices. My only complaint was their service was slow but could just have been my server, I will definitely be back. read more

I know that this location is new so I will definitely come back and update my review after I have given them another opportunity to change things. Today is my first day in and my servers first day working! My server was very attentive and professional. Unfortunately, my tabletop had sticky residue on it upon sitting down, the wonton soup was lukewarm and the wontons were not cooked through, and the Happy Family was extremely sweet and really not that good in addition to it and the rice being cold. Again, this is a new location so we have to give them a little time to find that groove!! PS: the owner was here during my visit so I kind of thought things would go smoothly. The staff was incredibly friendly and great with our young kiddos. Harry was our hibachi chef for the evening and he was amazing! We will be coming back and asking for him specifically. I'm trying to be patient with this new place, but tonight was just so disappointing. We sat at the bar and it looked like the host was just packing folks in with no real appreciation for the fact that the restaurant was drowning. We were greeted quickly at the bar and ordered, then the wait....didn't get sushi for 30 minutes and then our entrees took another 45 - and came out cold. Our salads came out last which was very confusing considering they are obviously premade. Another 30 minutes to get our check. The longest, most disappointing Friday night. Oh, and the hot sake is microwaved? They definitely need some help and the owner/manager needs to get the staff better trained. read more

I've been hearing not so great stories, but I've been continuing to go to Akashi because I do like the sushi. But I finally experienced my own horror story. Eating my ginger salad and thinking I was pulling a piece of lettuce out my mouth, but turned out to be a super long piece of hair! This is my first experience, but I have heard from multiple friends that they have also found hair in their roles and salads. Sorry, but this has definitely stopped me from ever going again. First time my husband and I tried this place it was alright, we got two fusion rolls and some nigiri. It was just alright, not great. We decided to give it another chance today as we usually do when places are "alright" and the final verdict is we won't be returning. For the price of the nigiri, the sushi cuts are not great and the quality of the fish is subpar. Whoever is cutting the sushi is slicing it uneven and too thick. This was the experience both times, several weeks apart. It is not enjoyable to eat at all. Their soy sauce is also not great quality and didn't bring the umami profile I was expecting. My husband had the general tso's chicken this second time around and commented that it tasted like freezer section food that was microwaved... not what you want when spending to eat out at a nice restaurant. This place is just another pseudo fancy sushi place, posing as such to justify their prices. I would actually recommend the Sakura Bistro down the road if you are looking for better quality food that is also less expensive and does not taste like it's been microwaved. read more

We finally tried the Akashí newly opened on 1488 in Magnolia. We're giving it a great review because the service was excellent, nice ambiance and great food. I'd highly recommend the tuna tower with its warm brown rice bottom, over an inch of tuna tartare topped with another layer of crab salad and capped with avocado and snappy fish roe. The eel sauce was perfect with a creamy aioli. It was much larger than we expected and turned out to be a perfect appetizer to share for two. We also shared two rolls- the Lucy, a large California type roll with crispy breaded shrimp and another roll ( Volcano-something?) the was also a California type roll with sautéed shrimp and scallops- both were excellent. Next time we'll have to try their extensive hibachi menu. We went for dinner and felt the prices were reasonable- All this, plus an order of spring rolls (pretty much like all spring rolls) and drinks came to around 70$ read more

Very happy with our visit. The restaurant is beautiful, the staff was friendly and attentive, and food was very good and fresh. We did hibachi as well as ordering a few things from the kitchen. The restaurant itself is very nice inside, but unfortunately the food doesn't match the prices you pay. We ordered jalapeño poppers and were told they would take about 15 minutes, but when they came out they were cold and had a stale taste. I ordered the chicken teriyaki, which turned out to be basically oven-baked chicken with a drizzle of sauce on top, nothing resembling actual teriyaki flavor or meal. My husband ordered the Mongolian Delight, and it was essentially a plate full of onions with very little of the meats or protein that were supposed to be included. read more
