Cowboy Skillet and Avocado Toast
Carrie M.

This is an old-school diner that serves breakfast and lunch. It is very big with plenty of seating. I had the cowboy skillet, and I liked the ingredients, but the tater tot base was definitely getting to me because it was so fried and oily. I didn't realize the main component of the dish would be tater tots. It tasted fine overall, and the portion was large. I liked how it came with a choice of side. The side of fruit was solid, and the service was good.

I always love coming to Jimmy's egg. The food is great and so is the service. This morning I took particular notice to how well trained the staff is. They all worked well together and looked sharp too. I noticed the kitchen staff had really fun T-shirts. And, of course, the food as always was great. Well except for the cinnamon crunch French toast. There was nothing crunchy about it. It was just French toast.

Pancakes were definitely fluffy & matched pictures very well service was great! Definitely would recommend & will be back.

Popeye's Revenge Omelette with biscuit and gravy for the side with bacon

The food and service was amazing. We went on 9/1 and although it was a bit busy for a Saturday morning everyone was happy. The waffles and pancakes were so good. Fluffy and with lots of fruit. The Popeyes omelette I had was so good. I hope we can go again - so worth the 30 minute drive.

I took my in-laws to Jimmy's for breakfast, and it was my first time dining there. The interior wasn't anything special, but it was clean and efficient. We were seated promptly, and our server was friendly. The food seemed simple, but it was absolutely delicious. I'd be more than happy to dine here again.

Came here to try it this morning. Our server was wonderful a perky and sweet blonde but I didn't catch her name. Our food was good until I found a black hair in my omelet :/. I felt bad sending it back so I just didn't finish. Other than that the curly fries and mini pancakes were good. My friend ate her whole plate.

I lunched at the West Adams location and had a great meal except for one thing...I asked for a side salad as a side and instead of a nice bowl of mixed lettuce with a slice of cucumber and some tomatoes maybe, I got a shallow dish with finely chopped garnish with a few croutons. The best thing I can say about it was the ranch dressing. If you want a decent side salad, this isn't it.

Queso Blanco Burrito, Biscuit And Gravy

I ordered the queso blanco burrito and a mimosa and it was all very cheap, you can taste that all of it is coming from a can. The service was probably the worst part about this place. They have plenty of staff but no clue how to use them. Very loud environment, and super slow service. People were leaving because it was taking too long to get served.

We ordered waffles and debris biscuit with gravy on the side. The waffles, with fruit and sausage links were very good. The debris biscuit had a really off flavor. The link sausage would have had a better flavor. Again gravy was requested on the side, it did not come that way. Making the biscuit debris dish unpalatable.

Good food and service! Nice variety of your breakfast favorites. Roomy dining area, so you don't feel stacked up with the other diners.

Well first, the place is inviting for people of a certain age as well as for young people with many decorations evocative of the hippie era. It's clean and very pleasant. The menu is ambitious, I think they try too hard to be cute. And though the service was excellent, it all came down to the food for me. I ordered the Birdie Trio. It sounded interesting. But too many of these restaurants trying to do chicken and waffles take the shortcut and use processed boneless chicken parts reformed to look like an actual natural piece. I was supposed to get a thigh on each waffle. The chicken vaguely resembled thighs. But the meat was white and very salty. Not good. Should I ever drop in again, I'll stick with a more traditional combination and maybe my extra will be better. And oh, that credit card machine is set at a default of about 22% tip and that's on top of tax. Watch out!

Our server was very sweet and efficient- there when we needed her but not hovering. The food is glorious. They are a bit on the expensive side, but the food is so good we did not mind the prices. I had the chicken and waffles - nicely crisp chicken breast with very tasty waffles. My husband and granddaughter-in-law had the steak and eggs - with really good potatoes and onions; both were SO impressed with the flavor and the preparation. (I will be having this next time!). My grandson had 'Hong Kong' French toast, which I believe was made with Japanese milk bread and had berries and a custard. Also came with eggs and bacon. He could not speak highly enough about it. The portions are LARGE. We all took food home. I shared my plate with my great granddaughter (2 yrs) and still took food home! Honestly, we had booked another restaurant for the weekend of Mother's Day (day before) and we canceled that reservation so that we could go back to Farmers Commons! It's that good. Also, all the folks working when we were there were very sweet with my great granddaughter; we appreciated that. HIGHLY recommend for brunch. Now i want to try dinner too!

While the eggplant was excellent the butterfly pasta I could have eaten every day. The green beans were a little over cooked but still not bad. I will include a picture of the HUGE slice of chocolate cake I received. I will be eating it for a week. The price for four people was $150. So it was not outrageous. Recommended.

The evening started with a game of Restaurant Hide and Seek. After being seated, we sat for quite a while wondering if we were part of a social experiment--no water, no menus, no acknowledgment. Eventually a waiter arrived and, very honestly, said he was there to take our order because we'd been "ignored." Accurate assessment. We placed our order, and later a woman who appeared to be a manager brought out our appetizer, apologized for no one taking care of us, and said the appetizer would be comped. A very nice gesture--unfortunately one that didn't make it to the bill, where the appetizer showed up like it never heard that conversation. The food itself? Genuinely good. No complaints there. However, my wife's Caesar salad never arrived. She didn't bring it up because, frankly, after the earlier disappearing-staff act, it felt like tempting fate. We paid the bill (about $100), including a surprise 3% credit card fee we didn't see posted anywhere. We opted to take dessert home, mostly because the night already felt complete... enough. Bottom line: the food has real potential, but the service needs leadership, consistency, and maybe a map. It's hard to justify coming back in the future when you factor in parking fees, credit card fees, and the possibility of being politely ignored on a special occasion. It's a shame--good food deserves better service.

What BBQ place on the list happens to be open on a Monday (and quite frankly, seven days a week)? Miller's Smokehouse in Belton. Miller's Smokehouse has one of the longest tenures on the Texas Monthly Top 50, making the list four times in a row (the third-highest behind Louie Mueller and Snow's). They've got their business down. As I arrived, I parked in a free parking lot just across the street and got into the line around 12:30. The line moves pretty efficiently, and you order separately from the barbecue line. I think this immediately felt disheartening as a barbecue fan. You kinda expect to get your food while in line and watch the assembly of workers put it together, instead of them being in a separate location in the back giving you order numbers. It doesn't feel like a true Texas barbecue experience and more like a Dickey's Barbecue Pit. Instead of going for a tray, I opted for one of their specialty sandwiches, the El Gallo Picante. It has their spicy hot link sausage and their smoked chicken topped with coleslaw, onions, jalapeños, pickles, and barbecue sauce. I also got a side of their broccoli salad out of curiosity and a roll of their homemade cornbread. I got my drink and sat down with my roll of cornbread. It wasn't long until my tray came to me. The sandwich stood on its own as a behemoth. So much chicken and sausage fell out of the bun. The sandwich was less concerned about being a sandwich and more focused on creating a space to try and contain a mixture of ingredients. It wasn't bad, but it was hard to say anything other than that I felt uninspired by the entire thing. The sausage was fine, the chicken was kinda dry, but everything together with all the separate ingredients masked the meats' faults. The broccoli salad was a unique side that I had never seen before at a barbecue joint, so I wanted to try it. It was cool, but not something I'd get again. As for the cornbread, it was quality, but if that's the most impressive part of the meal, then I'm questioning the establishment's ability to create a good barbecue experience. I think it's so cool to have so many special barbecue places near me and the ability to try so many, but I'm starting to wonder if the places that stay on the list for four editions start to lose their oomph. Do they become complacent knowing they already have their business and are established? Is there any need to try and push the envelope when you're just a recurring guest on top barbecue lists? Is it a me issue? Is it my fault I went to Burnt Bean a week prior and now I'm trying a place that sells all-day barbecue? With your big brick-and-mortar and your TV screen menus, you're not as hungry as you used to be.
