This place is the worst. If it wasn't in an airport with a captive group of potential customers and almost no competition, it wouldn't stay open a week. The so-staff just hangs around talking to each other, it is almost impossible to get waited on once you are seated, it takes forever to get your food, and the quality of the BBQ is marginal at best. read more

Bleccchhh Not sure what I expected from airport BBQ, but whatever it was.....this underwhelmed. Was in a rush, but it took a while. When I got to eat on the plane, the pork shoulder sandwich was inedible. I threw over 3/4 of it away. Next time I'll go hungry and live off the new AA cookies. read more

If eating ribs at 8:30 in the morning is wrong... I don't want to be right. These pork ribs were hot, juicy, and drowning in sauce. I made a fool of myself breathing heavily and never moving my face more than 5 inches away from the plate throughout the entirety of the meal. Even the slaw was good! I lost track of time and had to sprint to my connecting flight covered in BBQ sauce. The flight crew saw me and smiled warmly... I was accepted here, they've seen my kind before. I damn near had a religious experience eating these ribs. No, my ribs didn't look like Jesus, but in those few moments of bliss, Jesus sure did look like my ribs. read more

This place is an example of marketing genius. They reel you in with aromas of succulent syrupy sweet barbeque knowing full well you have been on a plane snacking on peanuts for the last few hours. They sure got me. Like a fool I ordered a pulled pork sandwich. First off it was huge, which would have been good if the taste was better. The pork was dry which was moderately fixed by the extra sauce they give you. But no sauce could fix all the little bones I bit into while eating this sandwich. Almost chipped a tooth on the bone fragments! Wtf?? Do not feed this sandwich to small kids, could easily be a choking hazard. Overpriced, mediocre BBQ. Plus, Miss thang working the cashier seemed to get an attitude when I didn't leave a tip when I signed the credit card receipt. Didn't say thank you or anything. Maybe if I had tipped I'd have gotten a sandwich worth the 9$ I paid read more

WOO-HOO! INTERSTATE BBQ! My peeps and I recently blazed a trail through Memphis en route to Turkey Day in Texas. After a side trip to Graceland, my party decided that some local grub was just the ticket. After a glowing recommendation from a sassy lil' miss in the gift shop, we charted a course to Interstate BBQ. While the place is definitely not glamorous, the BBQ is stellar! Heaping plates of smoky deliciousness are waiting to be devoured. The sides measure up as well beans, BBQ spaghetti and a fabulous cole slaw. On top of being delicious, it's also a great value. You can be assured of great quality and huge quantities! We had some serious leftovers that made for some fabulous eating further on down the road. The surrounding area is somewhat sketchy, but it's just off the interstate (hence the name), so you won't find yourself lost in unfamiliar environs. read more

Leaving Memphis, we decided we needed to have BBQ one last time. And plus, we'd seen Interstate BBQ and the Neely's on The Food Network, so we had to try it while in town. The servers were extremely friendly. We'd been looking over the menu, trying to decide what to order and the girl must've asked us at least 2 times to let her know when we're ready to be seated. We decided to get it to go, and she said to let her know when we were ready to order. Ordered the combo ribs and sliced beef with a side of fries and beans. The meat was good and tender, but the sauce was too sweet for my liking. Next time I'd definitely ask for the sauce in a separate container so I could control how much of it there was. The beans and fries were good. The beans were also on the sweet side, but that's how I like 'em. My brother ordered the wings. It was taking them forever to get his order. The friendly server said it was because the cook had to go down to the freezer to get them. It ended up taking them so long, the cook gave him a double order. And apparently it was worth the wait. He said they were hella good! read more

No fork, no bread, bad attitude, nasty coleslaw. Sounds like a heck of a way to spend a 2-hour layover. What made it worse was the food was barbecue. The beef link sandwich was better than I expected. A decent link and sauce that wasn't too sweet. Funny thing is the gal taking my order made a point of telling me bread for beef link sandwich was "on the side" then they gave me no bread! read more

Food was disappointing. Ribs were smothered in sauce. What BBQ place covers up good ribs with loads of sauce? (Just answered my own question - they weren't very good). Beans were okay, but slaw was below average. Save your money and get bbq in the city or dine elsewhere in the airport. read more

During a 1.5 hour layover I dined at Jim Neely's Interstate BBQ. The Friday evening line stretched to the concourse walking path. However, ten minutes later I was greeted by the cashier ready to take my order. I decided to try the BBQ spaghetti since I've never had such a dish. My order was ready in only three minutes. The dish is of course made up of spaghetti pasta, bbq sauce, and shredded beef. It would've been perfect if they didn't skimp out on the beef. The BBQ sauce was pretty good as it had a spicy kick to it. I would classify it as a mild Thai spicy hot. The home made slaw and potato salad was delicious as well. Next time I'll try standard BBQ dish such as ribs, or brisket. read more

This is letter to the staff of this place.... I AM SORRY THAT I MADE YOU DO YOUR JOB, IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN! But seriously, what is with the attitudes? There was no fights or arguing or anything. But they don't greet you, they don't look you in the eyes, or even act interested at all! Weird place. read more

Yep. Guessing ol Jim has not haunted this location in a while. He'd be mortified. Terrible, dried out food. No smoke taste, texture, flavor or color. Better off with a burger or wings from the generic bar down the terminal. read more

On the scale of airport food, Jim Neely's Interstate BBQ is a clear 5 stars. Outside, it'd be a solid 4, but it was easily the best food I've had at an airport. I was on a layover at Memphis between Baton Rouge and La Guardia, and I decided to try and hunt down some barbecue. I zoned in on this place because it fit my needs and it had a long line. I'm one of those perverse sheep people who sees a line and stands in it. This strategy is often a winner, and I'd say I struck terminal gold with Interstate. To make things better, the line went quick. I ordered a barbecue pork sandwich combo, which came with a soda and a bag of chips for $11.95. Cheap? No, but remember we're at an airport, so not too bad either. This was a sizable sandwich with a serious amount of slow roasted pork shoulder. The cole slaw nice and tangy, and I loved the barbecue sauce. I did, however, want more of it. The pork was tasty, but a little tough and dry at parts, and the sauce was instrumental in keeping things moist. The bun was a soft hamburger bun, and it wasn't designed for the challenge of all that pork. It kind of fell apart while I was eating, and I was a mess by the end of the sandwich. I was a happy mess, though, as the sandwich was really delicious. I loved all the flavors, and with the exception of occasional dryness, I fully enjoyed every bite. I took it as a good sign that by the time my sandwich came out of its bag, my receipt was soaked through with oil so that half of the lettering disappeared. Seating was a little bit crazy and competitive, but once we got a table I tore into my barbecue sandwich and forgot about this small amount of hassle. If you happen to have a stopover in the Memphis airport, I'd suggest you hunker down at Interstate. read more

Pretty good BBQ. Not quite the same quality as their restaurant in my humble opinion but very good nonetheless. Love the ribs and their baked beans. Good place for a quick bite between connections. read more

How good does a foil-wrapped BBQ sandwich from an airport food stand have to be to get five stars? Hobbled by the surliest service imaginable, how succulent must the pulled pork be to merit that elusive fifth star? Priced dangerously close to the $10 mark, how do these barkers in league with the TSA give me a single sandwich served with bad attitude, no drink and no side still get five stars? Answer: It's Memphis. The sweet tea and Al Green are right there, between the bread. Apparently there are two places to get it: Concourse B Rotunda (6:30 am - 7:30 pm) and by Gate B 14 (7:30 am - 7:30 pm). read more

Coming from Texas, I am much more used to the drier style of BBQ. But with the right sauce (which they have), more can mean better! I really enjoyed my BBQ chicken here with both good slaw and beans. Just a warning the baked beans do have pork in them. Next time I would try the BBQ spaghetti, yes BBQ spaghetti! The guy behind me loved it, and it actually looked really good. read more

If you are at the Memphis airport for a layover, do yourself a favor and stop by the food court in the "Y" at the B terminal for some delicious BBQ! This has to be among the best airport cuisine I have had. The wife (she is my wife now!) and I shared a pulled-pork sandwich and a beef links dinner. The pulled-pork sandwich came with all the sauce on the side, which makes eating it much less messy (plus my wife enjoyed controlling how saucy her sandwich would be). It also comes with a very, very tiny portion of slaw (they give you more sauce than they give you slaw... that's how tiny the portion is). The beef links dinner, on the other hand, came with enormous portions (for an airport). I had more beef links than I could eat and had to ask the wife for help. The dinner includes two nicely sized portions of sides and two thin slices of bread. I chose the baked beans and potato salad as my sides. The beef links were slightly spicy but very tasty. The pulled-pork was a bit dry, but that was easily remedied by adding healthy portions of the tasty sauce that came on the side. The wife and I equally enjoyed all three sides (beans, potato salad, and slaw). It doesn't matter which gate your flight flies out of... if you are hungry, then make the trip to terminal B for some yummy airport BBQ! read more

After a poor experience at home team sports down the way, we were relieved to find servers who were willing to make an effort to serve the customers. Turkey was fairly processed, but the beans were decent and the slaw was ok. Not many options here so it worked for our needs. read more

I never thought I'd be giving props to an airport restaurant, but here I am. The smell hits you in the face when you step off the plane and you immediately enter a BBQ trance. I got the half chicken with a side of baked beans and if it wasn't for the florescent lighting wouldn't have even noticed that I was in an airport. It was so messy and delicious that I had to go back up for more napkins. If you ever have a choice when making flight arrangements it is worth the extra time to stop over in Memphis. read more

Stopped in here while waiting for a flight mainly because it smelled so amazing! We were greeted right away and drink orders taken quickly. The tea was just okay. It tasted as if it had a peachy or something flavor to it but I drank it anyway. I don't particularly care for flavored tea. Anyway we decided on 1/2 rack ribs, beans and potato salad. I think we would have liked the ribs better dry. We did not care for the sauce at all. The ribs literally fell of the bone clean. Seriously tender and juicy and perfectly smoked. I highly recommend the ribs but suggest ordering the sauce on the side. The beans were delicious. We really liked the flavor. The potato salad was fantastic. It's mustard potato salad and absolutely delicious!!!! We also got a side of bbq spaghetti out of interest. Meh, it was just okay. Probably wouldn't order it again but glad we at least tried it. Again, it had the sauce on it which may have been why we didn't like it too much but it also had a little spice to it. Parents should try it before you order it for your little ones. Overall we were super pleased with the service and happy with the food. read more

Jim Neely's Interstate BBQ - 1/2 slab with beans and potato salad and a side of BBQ spaghetti - Barbeque Near Me - Memphis, Tennessee

See all

I had the opportunity to hit Neely's during the morning and the afternoon going through Memphis. For the breakfast, smoked sausage biscuit. I'd stay away from this or any other biscuit as they steam the biscuit and that's just flat out wrong from a southerner's point of view. For the afternoon got the pork shoulder sandwich. Given that they surely don't smoke it in the terminal and has to be driven in for service, I'd give it a 3 star overall. I would think if I was getting this fresh from the original spot, 4 stars. Either way it's still better than the normal fare you see at an airport. read more

Stick with the pulled pork or chopped beef, which are pretty decent. The other food offerings are below average. The service is consistently poor and slow. By Memphis standards, this is not great BBQ, but not bad for airport food. read more

I think I'll pass. I had a bit of time before my plane left, so the hub and I decided to get a little snack. He ordered the beef link sandwich and the fact that the server said it wasn't actually a sandwich should have given us pause. It was simply cut up links in bbq sauce. No bread. He ordered it anyway and I ordered a cup of bbq spaghetti which wasn't actually in a cup, but simply on a plate. These small menu discrepancies should have been a sign. A big fat NO on both choices. The best thing about the dishes was the sauce and the cup of water. The sweet tea sucked. The sausage sucked and the spaghetti was pretty lame. After a few bites of it, I got bored with it. Not much to it at all. Next time I'm in Memphis (airport or not), I'll be getting bbq elsewhere. read more

What's a must try in Memphis? BBQ of course! As we crawled off the plane, wiping the sleep out of our eyes for our early connection to LAX, our senses were aroused by thought of BBQ for breakfast. My SO and I shared the beef brisket with baked beans & potato salad. I passed on the potato salad as I'm not a huge fan to begin with and I could tell it was a mustard base which is not my fave. The baked beans were just sweet enough. The brisket portion was just right for us to share. The beef easily fell apart and melted on our tongues. Great flavor in the sauce. Hands down some of the best airport food either of us has ever had; and we've seen several airports. read more

Sure, barbecue nachos sounds wierd. But it tastes great. I think I would have liked it better wtih "real" cheese rather than the melted nacho version, but omg the barbecue was out of this freaking world. I had been perplexed at Delta routing me through Memphis but the chance to sample Neely's barbecue? Guess I'll let them off the hook. read more

This is my go-to place for lunch when I'm passing through the Memphis airport. It's always crowded. And often times, people are waiting for tables. I always go with the chopped pork plate. This is almost exactly the same as the sandwich, so you might as well get the two sides. It's a huge amount of food - so be prepared for an instant food coma. Service: They're quick to get your order, but they don't waste any time checking on you or anything like that. Environment: It's an airport restaurant. We're talking plastic silverware, styrofoam cups, etc. It's exactly what you would expect. read more

When I finally arrived in Memphis after several delays it was very late. The hotel shuttle shuts down at 11 and it was 1 am. I called Uber and my driver said if you don't do anything else go to Interstate BBQ. I didn't get to go and really felt like l missed out. But I lucked out, at the airport was Jim Neelys Interstate BBQ. This was my chance and I ordered a slab of ribs and potato salad. The sauce was perfect and the meat fell off the bone. The potato salad only had mayo on it, but it was very tasty. I ate what I thought was a little but managed to do some slight damage. I topped it off with a large sweet tea which was excellent. I wrapped my little treasure very carefully and put it in my carry on. I could not wait to get home and finish it off. As l left I noticed quite a few folks had the same thought. I highly recommend that if you are ever in Memphis, don't leave until you make a stop at Jim Neely' s BBQ spot. I dare not open my package on the plane in fear of my life. Some people found out but by time they started to go get a quick fix, the plane started to board. SMH. read more

OVER Rated!! This may have been the place to go years ago, but not any more. I gave them a chance, a second chance, and a second-second chance. Nope. There are SO many other BBQ places in Memphis that know how to do it right, I would steer clear of this place. Classic USED-TO-BE good situation. Very similar to Rendezvous in that regard. read more

Once upon a time this place was good but NOT ANYMORE!! I ordered the nachos and chicken wings. The nachos chips were stale and the it was absolutely too much damn cheese and bbq sauce, the turkey tasted barely ok but not enough for me to be satisfied. The chicken wings that they say are "seasoned" were absolutely horrible. I mean they taste like they had been sitting around all day. Unfortunately we had to throw away $30.00 worth of food. Lesson learned. I will not be returning to Neeleys BBQ!!!! read more

Worst food Had combo plate. Beef brisket was dried out and smoked chicken was even worse. Food was like yesterday's leftovers. Cole slaw and potato salad were sweet. Was going to send back. But since had taken bites of each she wasn't going to do anything. WTH try telling how a meal tastes without taking a bite. Don't waste your money on this place. Just hoping. We don't get food poisoning from the meal. If could give zero stars, I would read more

Memphis airport Jim Neely's BBQ. Service is what you'd expect at a busy airport restaurant, adequate but certainly not heart warming. I ordered the BBQ spaghetti and was not impressed. Hardly any meat in the sauce, I never got the bread that was supposed to come with my meal. Maybe I shouldn't have ordered spaghetti at a bbq place but it sounded more interesting than the rest of the menu and I was looking forward to a meaty bbq sauce that never happened. I'll never order this again and I'd be hard pressed to come back to Jim's. read more

Jim Neely's Interstate BBQ - Barbeque Near Me - Memphis, Tennessee

How many ways can you say HORRIBLE? Was in town and excited for great bbq but made a mistake in coming here! Got the ribs and they were SAW-off the bone since they were tough and lacking flavor (and cold). My brisket was sliced on a deli slicer and layed on the plate and covered in their horrible (canned-tasting) bbq sauce - then microwaved (as evidenced by the dried bbq sauce on the edges of the plate). It was OLD tasting with no flavor. The beans were ok. Cole slaw was bitter and bad. We left without eating much of this slop and decided to head deeper into town for some good Memphis bbq. read more

It was closed at 5pm on Tuesday when the hours are until 7. If they can't be open during posted hours, you don't care.

It took 15 minutes to wait in line, order, and get my food. Good start. I ordered the pulled BBQ beef. "You want cole slaw on it?" "Yes." "You want cole slaw on the sandwich?" "Yes!" I replied with the confidence that stated this wasn't my first rodeo. "And beans," I added. That sandwich was HUGE. I sat down at my gate and there were no tables so I knew I had a dilemma. Cute was out! I picked it up with two hands and did my best to get it all into my mouth. Apparently, this was so disturbing that the millionaire (according to her phone convo) sitting next to me got up and walked away at one point. They didn't ask me, but there was a little cup of extra sauce in my bag! These people know how I eat!!! So I poured that on and let it drip from the side of my mouth during the subsequent bites. Halfway through, I remembered the beans. I opened the cup of baked beans and they were still piping hot. I'm used to sweet and these were a little tangy like Interstate's sauce. YU-um! I started eating them with a fork and they were so good that I bit the inside of my lip!! So then I slathered some of those on what remained of my sandwich and sopped every last bit of it into my mouth. I was so stuffed, I decided to pack the napkins into my carry-on in case it all decided to ... um ... come back up during the flight. Still, there were beans left so I started to eat. A few bites in, I looked down at the foil in which my sandwich had been wrapped and I saw my reflection. She said, "Step away from the *&%$ beans." So I did. I know there's some relation to Neely's which I reviewed and didn't care for so much but Papa Neely (Interstate BBQ) gave me an unforgettable 'que experience! I can hardly wait for another layover! Note: There are 2 locations. There is 1 in the food court and 1 near B17. read more

If you have an hour or more to kill at the Memphis airport and you want some below average bbq, definitely stop by. I'd go into the details about the service, but I'll summarize instead: it was really slow and provided by someone who didn't want to be at work that day. I ordered the chopped beef. It was supposed to be smoked. It was exceptionally bland. The baked beans were good and the potato salad- well- everyone has their own taste preferences- I won't judge it. It just wasn't to my taste. The sweet tea tasted like Lipton instant tea. The portion of meat was very big. It took 30-35 minutes to get my food. I watched a lady with a couple kids wait just as long for three hotdogs and chips. I would t recommend it. read more

Jim Neely's Interstate BBQ - In the plane making people envious with my meat scent. - Barbeque Near Me - Memphis, Tennessee

Zero stars would be better for this review. We ate at Ray's world Famous Barbecue on Thursday it was awesome!!! Unfortunately Rays is closed on Mondays. What we tried at Neely's was over cooked ribs and dry chicken with a vinegar tasting sauce poured over It. We tried two sides, potato salad and baked beans I could of sworn they came from Bushes canned beans and Kroger's deli although you expect that taste from them. Neely's is located in Southhaven just south of Memphis in an old Pizza Hut building. The employees at Neely's acted like they wanted to be anywhere but there. That should have been our warning to go! Also they have a drive up window for barbecue which came with the old Pizza Hut building. Good barbecue is not fast food. The stuff we tried today was awful. Don't eat here. read more

Finally a restaurant that serves decent food in an airport!!! The pulled pork sandwich I had was wonderful! My only regret is that I did not have the bbq sauce mixed in the meat (you can get it on the side as I did). The meat had a nice light smokey flavor that was perfect for my palate. The cole slaw on the bottom of the sandwich was quite good as well. Most importantly was their was a plentiful amount of meat on the sandwich which is perfect for those 2-3 hours flights that you get nothing to eat. There is more than one location in the airport so thankfully you dont have to walk far... well, too far. read more
