Quick stop for lunch of dinner place at MEM airport, have good food and quick service. An Average BBQ place

The flavor was VERY good...the beans, slaw and pulled pork delish! The pork was just a tad dry because they didn't put enough BBQ sauce on...I should have asked for a side of sauce....next time:) Super nice employees too! read more

I got the 1lb of beef. Really flavorful and great sauce. Make sure you tell them sliced instead of chopped. The last thing I wanted was a plate of chopped beef with no bread - AWKWARD. Thank God it was good. Also ordered the 6oz side of spaghetti. It was a huge plate of spaghetti and honestly could have just had that instead of gorging out on the meat. read more

This was THE WORST restaurant I've ever been to!!!! Now mind you me and my fiancé saw this place on the Food Network, so when we came to Memphis we thought that we would check it out and eat some great Memphis BBQ. I don't usually post reviews but I absolutely had to on this eatery, the service was THAT BAD. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated and even acknowledged when we walked in, when we finally were seated we waited another 15 minutes to receive a menu, when we finally got our waiter (Alannah) she had an attitude, but we let it slide and continued to wait on our food. We saw MULTIPLE people receiving their orders who had been seated after us yet waited on BEFORE us. Another waitress passed by and said, "Y'all been waiting for a while let me check on y'alls order" at this point we had been waiting for over 45 minutes. Our waitress finally brings our food out and basically throws it on the table, doesn't apologize for the wait or try to refill our drinks and walks away. The food was lukewarm so it had been sitting for a bit. When we went to the cashier to pay, which in my mind we should've been comp-ed for the wait alone, we tell the cashier of the experience we'd just had she proceeds to tell us that we should've said something, well we already had to someone else, she continues with ANOTHER excuse that we're busy, well people it was only about seven or eight patrons in the establishment the entire time we were there. How is that an excuse for waiting for almost 50 minutes just on the food, that's not adding the time it took to get seated and receive a menu. Honestly, this establishment had poor service and management for subpar food, I can honestly see why there weren't many people in there to begin with. We went for the food and overall experience for our first visit to Memphis and was greatly disappointed. Don't waste your time and money on this place find another BBQ joint to put your money towards! read more

It's refreshing to see something different than what you would find in a mall food court when you're at an airport. What was the first thing that came to mind for me while I was here for a connection flight in Memphis? BBQ!! So I came here to check out their BBQ and got their pulled pork sandwich with a side of BBQ spaghetti. Their pulled pork sandwich was a meat-a-plenty which is good to know if you're looking for something filling before you get on the flight. But I wasn't a fan of the BBQ sauce, it was a little too vinegary and I think they went a little too much with the liquid smoke. I got the BBQ spaghetti because I wanted to know what it was. Just spaghetti with a thick BBQ sauce and little chunks of ground beef and cubed meat (sirloin, chuck?). It was interesting to say the least. Who said that spaghetti can only be covered in marinara sauce? I wouldn't say that I'm hooked on the stuff, but it was refreshing to try something different and it wasn't bad. read more

Killed it. Easily the best food I've had in an airport. BTW, never fly Delta and don't do layovers - you'll get screwed royally [end rant]. I got the sausage links and cole slaw and salad, I think. It was deliciousness that helped quell the anger that I was raging from Delta messing up all my flights. How about this: If ever given the option to connect flights in Memphis or anywhere else, this airport might be the spot, bc of the BBQ here. dmo out. read more

I will begin by giving my opinion about the food...the bbq nachos were excellent, a light shower of dry powder over the cheese, excellent idea...the seasoned chicken wings were finger-licking good, just enough char to hint toward a smokey flavor...the ribs were average, being that I am from Dallas, I've had better...the lemonade was the bomb, the after taste tickled my tastebuds beyond logic...the onion rings were fried too hard and overly breaded. I major complaint with this particular loc ation was the absent of communication...i ordered a 5 piece wing with onion rings as my side item, 5 piece and 1 side is $9.50, but I was billed $9.50 & an additional $4 for the onion rings...I was unaware that onion rings were not an opinion, but an additional cost...this would have been vital information before the check arrived...I questioned this practice in any business...before leaving the establishment, I was was able to receive a side of beans as a side after I noticed the discrepancy with my bill. Overall, the food was excellent, I struggle to complete this review as I am full beyond belief. read more

Jim Neely's Interstate BBQ - Jim Neely's Interstate Bar-b-que - Barbeque Near Me - Memphis, Tennessee

The lady at the counter was hateful to every customer that ordered! My table was very close to register. I walked up to look for napkins and she told me to sit down and she'd let me know when my order was ready. Bar-b-que was so dry, save your money at airport in Memphis!!! read more

It's the kind of genius like having BBQ at an airport that makes having a layover not too bad. Stepping out into the gate after our first leg of the flight home, my fella and I were famished. The first thing we smelled was BBQ! We followed our noses to Interstate and enjoyed a nice honkin' portion of ribs, cole slaw and baked beans. The ribs were pretty tender and the sauce had a nice sweetness to it. Definitely some of the better airport fare I've had. Yum. read more

During our layover to Vegas, my girlfriends and I were thrilled to grab some BBQ for dinner! We were not sure if this Neely's spot is related to the Neelys on the Food Network, but we wanted to try it out! I ordered the BBQ pulled pork sandwich. It was delicious! And it helped me knock out in transit to our West Coast destination! read more

I love BBQ cause I'm from Memphis!! And I must say I been eating there for years and I'm telling you stop by and try them out you'll be happy you did. read more

Landed in Memphis for my connecting flight...just in time for breakfast. As I was looking for the gate for my next flight, I spotted Jim Neely's. I ordered a regular sausage biscuit...expecting it to be like the one I get at McDonald's. Boy, was I wrong! The biscuit was GOOOOOOOOD! And the sausage was a portion of a kielbasa, split in half. Smoky! Just...delicious! If you're ever in Memphis for breakfast, just get this! read more

Got out of the airplane and I was starving. I was with a group of people and walked by the usual airport food fare with my stomach grumbling. Luckily our gate was right next to this BBQ joint. It wasn't difficult to convince my travel buddies it was better than airplane food. I had the pulled pork shoulder. No veggies, didn't miss 'em. Only thing in between the bread was the pork and BBQ sauce. The BBQ sauce was tangy and what made the sandwich. The sandwich came with coleslaw that was better than most. It had a Southern kick to it, if you will. I wish I could have gone to a non-airport location for the whole Southern BBQ experience, but this was a good preview of what else is out there. Though other Yelpers said the prices here were jacked up, I didn't think it was ridiculously expensive. $7 for a sandwich that took me three attempts to finish, not bad at all. read more

FAMOUS FOR: - Anything BBQ BUZZ - Chopped Pork (Pulled Pork) Sandwich (7/10) Several months ago I was in LA looking for a DDD place to eat, and found Jay Bee's BBQ through Guy Fieri's Flavortown app and some Youtube videos. Guy was shocked to find out that the owner of Jay Bee's was the sister of Jim Neely, who started Interstate BBQ out in Memphis. Well, I never heard of it, but thought, "Wouldn't it be cool to be able to try his too?" Well, lo and behold, I had a layover in Memphis, and got to try it out! Now, of course, I didn't have enough time to eat, so I had to order it and then eat on the plane. Why is it I can never have flight delays in airports with cool restaurants, and instead have to get stuck at places like Chicago, where I already know the food, or Fort Smith Regional Airport, where the food court consists of 2 vending machines? Since my flight in was delayed, I had even less time to make my connection, but thank GOD there were 2 Interstate BBQs in the airport, and the second one was next to my gate, phew! CHOPPED PORK SANDWICH As much as I wanted to try a bunch of things on the menu, I needed the most portable thing, and besides, this was what Jay Bee's was famous for, so I knew I couldn't go wrong! It took a few minutes of waiting after I put the order in, and I was nervously pacing because they were already calling Group # at the gate. At my first chance in the plane, I unwrapped it and went to town. A little advice, the wrapper is really flimsy. It looks like foil, but it's paper, and mixed with the sauce, it'll split very easy allowing sauce to drip onto your pants. First bite, the pork is cooked well. It's got decent flavor, and it's pretty moist. Jay Bee's definitely had better flavor, though. The bun is very flimsy, which is good, so it doesn't suck up all the flavors. BBQ sauce was already put on, enough to show that the outer layer was covered. You taste some good smoky flavors and the light pork taste. The sauce is nice 'n' sweet with a tiny bit of tang. Not so dissimilar to Jay Bee's, but they didn't have any spicy options, just the original. I"m ok with that. The sauce, while good, was outgunned by the bun, coleslaw, and not-so-flavorful pork. Jay Bee's has this thing where they ladle on sauce, then put the bun on, then take the bun off and ladle more sauce. Interstate needs to do that, because there was a serious lack of sauce. The pulled pork was good, but the flavors weren't strong enough to handle the bun by itself, it absolutely needed that extra bbq sauce. What's nice, though, is that they give you an extra container of sauce, so that helped, but still wasn't enough to smother every bite. LIKE SISTER LIKE BROTHER? I know, I know, Jim Neely's the starter of the whole thing, so it feels wrong to award his sister 5 stars, and not him. I will say this, though, this was at an airport, which can't be the same as the actual establishment. I'm sure had I gone to a real Interstate, there'd be a lot more tender loving care on the food it puts out, but here, speed is more of a thing (and I'm actually glad, because that helped me make my flight). One day, though, I hope to be back to try out the real thing. In the meantime, though, it is what it is. read more

This is about as good as it gets for airport food. If I were reviewing a normal restaurant, it would probably get 3 stars. I ordered the chopped pork sandwich and baked beans. The sandwich was huge and it probably could have used twice as much BBQ sauce than it had on it. I would have asked for more, however once I came up with that bright idea, I had already eaten most of my sandwich. The baked beans were good and more spicy than I'm used to. The cole slaw that came with the sandwich was very good and had a kick to it as well. I'm kind of a cole slaw snob, so I was pleasantly surprised. I know some people complained about the service, but I thought it was great! Very friendly people even though it was packed in there read more

This place is an absolute amazement for an airport restaurant! Fantastic food really cheap for an airport. Memphis is a city I just never visit in my line of work, but ended up with a weird routing back home and an hour to kill on a Sunday morning. So they have this smoked sausage biscuit for two bucks. Worth a try. It was fantastic - not some McDonald's processed pork patty, this was an actual smoked (heavy smoke) sausage sliced in half on a homemade biscuit. To top it off, they sell Tropicana orange juice for just $1.99. That's only a touch more than you would pay at any convenience story and at least a buck less than most airports. I wish I had the hunger to try some more Q. I highly recommend this as a good way to get something unique at a reasonable price in the Memphis airport. read more

I was thrilled to see that this place was at the Memphis airport. What better way to spend a layover than to eat bbq! I ordered the large combo with pork ribs and beef, my gf ordered the bbq spaghetti. Everything was really good. My only complaint is that the beef was in long "strings", you basically had to eat it like spaghetti - but the flavor was great. Service and atmosphere were awesome. read more

Passing through Memphis and had heard a lot about this place. They were out of pork and very rude about it. This place is at the very end of a terminal, so too much business was not the problem! I still don't know if their barbeque is any good, but Customer Service stinks! read more

The ribs were good, but the cover it up with a TON of sauce. I like sauce, but it covers up the flavor of the meat (maybe that was the Idea). It was a nice way to end my trip to Tennessee, and I would probably eat there again if i was in the airport, but its not a "can't miss it" kind of restaurant. read more

Jim Neely's Interstate BBQ - Half a rack of ribs, beans and cole slaw. - Barbeque Near Me - Memphis, Tennessee

Great food and service! Just what I needed in this trip to Memphis! The nachos and wings were superb! Will be returning on my next trip!

Airport bbq what else can I say I had pork ribs they were blah my wife had the sausage sandwich which was good the fries were hot and great

What a disappointment! Maybe I should have got the ribs or pork, but I really love a heavily smoked turkey. That's what I ordered and it sucked. It just tasted like sliced turkey deli meat. There was absolutely no smoked flavor to it. The coleslaw and beans weren't bad. Just don't order the turkey. read more

Last October one of my closest friends decided he wanted to road trip across Tennessee for his birthday with our first stop being the fabulous city of Memphis. Our goal - to eat as much phenomenal BBQ as we possibly could! We knew we were only able to spend one day in Memphis before heading to our next location, so we started our BBQ sampling right after stepping off the plane! Before even picking up our luggage, we hopped over to Jim Neely's Interstate Bar-B-Que in Terminal B of Memphis International to try their famous BBQ spaghetti. We arrived at 9 a.m. and the line was already forming! This tasty dish was a combination of spaghetti, seasoned pork and Interstate's own BBQ sauce, a tomato and vinegar based sauce with a hint of spice. The seasonings in both the pork and the sauce provided a great kick. It was definitely worth the wait and is a must try when visiting the Memphis airport! read more

Ribs were good, not great. Service was friendly and fast, and the food is overall inexpensive. I would come here again, but if I was traveling to Memphis to check out their world-famous BBQ scene, this would not be my first choice. read more

Layover at Memphis, TN. I had to get me some bbq ribs. This place seemed like one of two locations serving bbq at the airport. I chose it simply because it was closest to my gate. To my pleasant surprise the place was decent and good. The service is excellent. While most people eat at airport restaurants out of necessity or convenience, it doesn't give those restaurants a license to be ordinary, or worse. Anyone traveling through the Memphis airport knows this phenomenon, as the dining choices there at present are just plain bad. I had hoped Interstate BBQ would be different. Sadly it was not. It was a subpar performance on every level: 1) Poor Service - wait staff couldn't care less if you were there. So don't go if you only have a short time before your flight. The table was not clean, the service was slow, and the server got all the side wrong on the order. 2) Poor Atmosphere - Yeah, I know, it's an airport restaurant, so what atmosphere did I expect? The TV in the corner is blaring some stupid talk show, with a speaker that sounded like it was blown 5 years ago. Tables are on top of one another, so navigating with your roller bag is difficult if not impossible. 3) Poor Food - I've had BBQ all over the US and like all different styles, from Texas to Carolina to KC and everything in-between. But my smoked turkey was drowning in sauce, so much that I couldn't taste the smoke. Maybe that's the intent? Maybe when MEM is finished with this phase of remodeling, there will be better choices. But for now, I recommend you et before you get there and don't fo to this location of Interstate if you are looking for good BBQ. You will leave disappointed. read more

Nothing good to say about this place. Food is awful, place is gross, service is blah.

Stopped at Neely's for lunch on my way home. I'm a big BBQ fan and love to try different establishments. Unfortunately, the BBQ was mediocre at best. I had the pork, slaw and beans. Beans and slaw were OK, but the pork was not my favorite. Not sure, the issue. Maybe it was out for too long or not fresh. Not something I would order again. read more

If I known a mentally unhinged doofus was going to scream over the phone, I would have avoided calling. I ordered from Uber Eats and was called by a driver who explained that my order was picked up prior to her arrival. To make sure she wasn't scheming for a free meal and tip, I called the restaurant directly while she was waiting outside the establishment. Needless to say I was immediately screamed at for making sure I wasn't getting scammed instead of just confirming that the order was indeed picked up. Anyways, the lady that called turned out to be a rather stand up person and helped me get my order refunded. Forgot to mention I was new to this Uber thing. I advise against ANYONE from ordering through Uber or you'll get scammed. God knows how many times fake drivers stole food from this place. And you can't contact the restaurant because some mentally unstable asshat answers the phone. read more

Ok so in fairness I did try this at 8 in the morning at the airport location. The sliced brisket was overcooked, dry, and thinly sliced, reminded me of Arby's. I prefer a thicker slice. I am not a fan of sauce on the meat, should always be served on the side, but this is an exception to the rule as the sauce was the only good part of the brisket. The sausage was good, again covered in sauce. Serving size was huge. Slaw was sour. Fries were fresh from the fryer and very good. I loved the Neely's cooking show when it was on the air, so wanted to try the restaurant. Next time I will stick to the breakfast menu. read more

These people at this location are rude as hell. The ribs and food is good the portions are as big as they are at other locations.

Great BBQ! Kind of pricey, but thus is the monopoly that airports have on food places. I recommend the pulled pork sandwich and a side of baked beans. read more

I was in Memphis for the weekend, got to the airport early so I can pick a order of bologna sandwiches (3 orders to go) plus a bbq pork sandwich. The last couple years I found this place in the airport, and I've been addicted ever since. This visit, I went to the food court then was told they moved to the other side of the airport, so i had to go search for restaurant. I didn't care because its worth the mission. Got to the location, sat down and placed my order. The two ladies that were working that day were both sitting at a table playing on a iPad and the other was looking through magazines. I felt as though I had to beg the lady to do her job. I still remained polite and waited on her. The other lady kept yelling she's so tired. Two times I saw them get up to get the food from the kitchen, and the other lady that kept yelling she was "sooo tired" and she kept yawning over the food she got from the kitchen. Altogether, the food was okay. On all three sandwiches, the meat was hard and dry. I wish the customer service was better. Adleast If i could get decent service. read more

We tried this bbq place in the airport. We were so happy that it was so conveniently located because we weren't able to make it to the actual restaurant during our travels. The lady who served us was very nice and attentive. We ordered a half rack of ribs each. They were juicy and fell right off the bone. I made sure I tucked in a makeshift bib before I dug in cuz I didn't trust myself with all that sauce. And of course The food was amazing. All of it. not sure what the secret is but even the 'slaw was great! It was fresh and had a nice taste, it helped break up the sweetness from the ribs and the bbq beans the only thing I'd recommend is asking for light bbq sauce cuz they slathered it on and it was a bit to much for me but I just scraped a bit off and it was fine my boyfriend loved it as is though so I guess it just depends what you like :) We also enjoyed a beer after our food. They serve fountain soda, bottled beer and draft beer here. It was great. We loved it all. Oh they also pack it for you to go so you can eat it on your flight! Lol I don't trust myself enough to try that but people did! Lol read more

Last Tuesday my flight landed at Memphis a little late and I got really hungry, so I decided to grab a quick bite to eat at the airport before hitting the road to Tupelo. Memphis is known for its barbecue, so when I got to the food court and saw this place, I decided to give it a shot. I ordered 1/2 slab of pork ribs, with baked beans and cole slaw. WOW, seriously, I never thought airport food could be this good! About the ribs - the outside was dry and very flavorful, and the inside was exceptionally tender and moist. The sauce was just right, not too overpowering. The beans and slaw were okay. Next time I make a connection in Memphis I will be sure to go back again. read more

BBQ smelled sooooo good. Ordered 3 items, they forgot half of them. No one else in restaurant, customers at least. There was a woman in a Neelys shirt, with BARE FEET on the floor in the eating area. She also had extremely long artificial nails. I stopped eating. Boarded plane, had vomiting and diarrhea that started 30 mins later, was diagnosed with food poisoning at the ER when I got home and went to ER. I am thinking a definite NEVER AGAIN. I was hospitalized for two days receiving IV fluids and electrolyte replacement. Consider this your warning. read more

It was a slow afternoon in the Memphis Airport. I had 2 hours to kill so I searched out some BBQ. The information desk told me to go to Neely's. The portion was too big to eat. The waitresses were fast and friendly. My meal was $30 bucks with tip. Not sure if I will be back again. read more
