    Q3. Hot & Sour Soup

Always been great when I come here. Got the human pork. Great. Hot and sour soup, I think it was home made.

I don't often write reviews but after eating at Jian's Kitchen, I felt like I needed to write this not only because of the food, but as the restaurant resides in the basement on a bustling street where plenty of other great restaurant are around, I would like to bring more exposure to this cute little spot. I highly recommend the spare rib with salted eggs, one of my favorite dishes and this place does it very authentically. The three tones basil chicken was very flavorful, you would love it if you were a fan of basil. My only complaint was that the portion size was smaller compared to the other Chinese restaurants in the area. Overall, if you are looking to try some authentic Chinese cuisine while in the area, do give this place a try!

The new ownership here has replaced Northeastern Kitchen and everything so far is really exceptional. James speaks very good English and the communication/translation between the owner and the customer works well. They are open late enough for me to swing by after work to grab some real authentic Chinese. The liver/kidney and intestines is amazing and perfect spice, the beef stomach mala is amazing, and most of all I like the different steamed fish choices they offer. This is really unheard anywhere else in PGH. I am a fan again! Having the original cook from Northeastern still there makes the deal work! Happy New Year!!

The food is good - authentically Chinese. The taste brought instant memories back to our days living in China, so yeah, we missed those tastes of sour, spicy and hot. The 锅包肉is really good, like those in Harbin... the hot plate spicy fish (sorry I forgot it's name on the menu) has only one word - hot! The staff is attentive and service with a smile. It's not a "PF Chang" setup but down a flight of stairs is a quaint experience to locate a restaurant. The interior is simple but conjures up those "corner" treasures used to find back in Shanghai...

We had one issue with green curry, being too spicy despite being order at a level 3. We decided we would order another entree since they weren't willing to replace it. . After a 10-minute wait to be seated and an additional 30 minutes before our drink orders were taken, we encountered an issue with the billing. The service and management response were deeply concerning Our party of four was charged an automatic 18% gratuity, which was not disclosed on the menu. When we requested that the gratuity be removed so we could pay it in cash instead, the manager's response was unprofessional and offensive. He suggested that we should "save room for the gratuity" or "take our food to go" in the future, falsely implying that we were unwilling to pay our bill. He only apologized after he realized we still were leaving a tip just in cash. I paid and left quickly this was very embarrassing and like nothing I've ever experienced. Which was so unfortunate because I was looking forward to returning with my father. We also traveled from outside the city to dine here. We never contested the quality of the food or the hard work of the staff; we simply requested a change in the method of payment for the tip. I found the manager's hostile tone and remarks to be racially charged, and I believe we were treated this way because we are African-American. I will never returned to this establishment. I urge all patrons to be aware,of how nasty your experience can turn if you decide to question gratuity charges. I hope you take this feedback seriously and address these transparency and conduct issues with your management team. I also decided to add a picture of the manager who spoke with our table.

Simplistic, covered parking with a large parking structure attached to the restaurant. Elegance encapsulated with the high ceilings, modern fixtures, and classy atmosphere. The food is next level. With so many awesome small plate options, we decided to get drinks and share in the opportunities. This may be of benefit, as Palm Palm brings out food when it is ready instead of waiting to serve a full course to a party. Let's review the small plates: - Roasted Broccoli Caesar - roasted tender and perfectly coated with the brioche and parm - Focaccia Bread Board - fluffy, salty focaccia with somewhat simplistic board options of butters and jam - Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup Dumplings - easily our favorite bite!! Served in a spoon with creamy soup floating a perfectly filled dumpling of cheese goodness - Truffle Spaghettios - hello childhood, you missed the mark. These spaghettios may have you thinking nostalgia but the flavors are stellar. - Mini Lobster Rolls - chilled, copious lobster on a buttery crisp roll... shhhh they brought us a second one for free!!! - Waygu Meatballs - the plating is top notch. Little meatball holders to allow the French onion to soak in and the cheesy to perfectly melt across them all. Melt in your mouth meatballs with seasoning to make your want another! - Classic Oysters - a nice starter for the birthday boy! For drinks, we loved their homemade sodas - Lemon Ginger, Strawberry Passion Fruit, & Sunset Fire added the perfect sip between bites! And of courseeeee... you need desserts! Why not turn them into shareable small plates too!! - The Orange - levels of orange flavor perfectly paired together with sweetness to enhance the palate and enjoy! - Dark Desire - rich, dark chocolates with flairs of chocolate work. So goooood!! - Key Lime Pie - wooowww citrus overload. But so moist and yummy. Our waitress was phenomenal. Giving great suggestions, ensuring we always had dishes cleared and glasses filled... and even telling us menu changes that made some dishes not worth it anymore. Wow!! This is celebration station too! With the sparkler extraordinaire almost every table was celebrating someone or something while we were there. It's no surprise that this place is, was, and will be a trendy spot in Pittsburgh!!

At first, I was a little worried about the Nordic seafood cuisine and whether there would be enough options for less adventurous people in our party. But it turns out there's a great selection of dishes for everyone. The roasted half chicken with the incredible lingonberry sauce is one of my favorite dishes of all time. I think the waiter mentioned it was brined overnight for a few days, which makes it unbelievably juicy. The starters are phenomenal as well. They showcase so many unique flavors, textures, and combinations. One of our favorites was the steak tartare, and they had a scallop crudo special that was especially refreshing. If you can make a reservation, I highly recommend it. However, if you can't, they usually offer walk ins but in a separate bar dining area (mostly under red lights). One time we lined up a few minutes before opening, and there were at least 10 people ahead of us, but I think everyone still ended up getting seated. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and kind. I started off with a creative cocktail called a "Silky" made with rum, basil, centerbe, citrus syrup, lime, and buttermilk. It was so good that I had to have another. The Orange King Salmon gravlax with cultured butter, and cured egg yolk immediately got my attention, and it was as satisfying as it sounded on the menu. My daughter insisted that I get the roast half chicken with linganberries and soft farmers cheese. It was a flavorful and juicy stand out on the menu. I could not pass up the sourdough spatzle, which was rich and balanced, and made perfectly with crème fraîche, peas, grana pandano and herbs. At the end of my meal, I was served a wonderful natural dessert wine that was well paired with the creamy buttermilk Panna cotta with ginger and black currant. How lucky are we to have this gem of a restaurant in Pittsburgh? I could eat this same meal every day of my life!

Very simple, no extra effort given beyond the output of a classic italian dish. Each plate proportionately could have fed two people so it felt like we were eating for four. We both left full, but underwhelmed with the flavor profiles rendered. Service: Overall our waitress was pretty absent, having asked us how we were doing only twice, leaving little room for any comments or feedback to be offered. She recognized her absence and offered us a surprise tiramisu (complimentary) to make up for the lack of attentiveness to our table. Seating: A large bar stretches the restaurant accompanied by wooden chairs, tables and a few booths tucked against the parallel wall. The seating is not tight, meaning you have space between yourself and other parties but the wooden chairs/tables were uncomfortable. In 2026, we just expected a little more from a restaurant charging $20+ for pasta plates. Affordability: If you're going out for drinks and an appetizer, you might be able to sneak your bill in for under $50, but otherwise forget it. Each plate is $20+ with options on the wine list reaching as high as $200+ ... We wouldn't describe this atmosphere as fancy, but the prices are trying to be.
