SP11. Stuffed Eggplant Pot Stickers (Shrimp & Pork)

My new favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. This is my fourth time here and every time we have come, the food is delicious. Our favorite is the stuffed eggplant. It's very authentic. Highly recommend.

Yes yes yes yes! We are huge fans of Everyday Noodle so when we heard the owners were opening a new spot down the street that it would be one to remember. We wanted to start classic so we got cheese wontons and chicken with broccoli. Also got the five spices braised beef. 10/10 would recommend. Perhaps the best of these dishes we know and love we've ever had. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere peaceful, and the eats so good! Now it's just the tough decision when we're in the area if we go to Chow's or Everyday! Ah choices!

We came for lunch on the weekend, and they weren't super busy. Staff were friendly and helpful. We tried to order Shanghainese dishes, and they were all very tasty. Nothing was overpowering. The two appetizers (smoked fish and four happiness wheat gluten) were actually cold dishes. The Shanghai style stew tasted light enough that the broth itself was like soup. They also have a variety of other regional Chinese food. I was happy to see some Shanghainese food added to the Pittsburgh good scene.

I've been very sad since Jian's kitchen was closed. Glad there is another place to eat Shanghainese dishes. They no longer serve the fish dish that I've been wanting to order. I ordered three dishes for two people, all traditional Shanghainese cuisines. The soup is my favorite. The place has many seating places and people there are very nice.

Really nice new-ish destination in Squirrel Hill. My understanding is that they are trying to feature Shanghai style cuisine, and I'm certainly not the expert on how well they achieve that goal. What I can say is that the food was all nicely flavored and textured, with a surprisingly large number of vegetarian and vegetable-centric dishes on the menu. None of it seemed unnecessarily heavy. We ordered takeout online, and the experience was extremely easy. The order was ready and well-packaged exactly when they said it would be. The interior was nicely decorated, with a decent number of people dining in, even on a rainy Sunday night. In terms of the food, the first surprise was the vegetarian hot and sour soup. That could have easily been an afterthought, but it was very nicely flavored and filled with bite sized tofu and vegetables with strands of beaten egg. Really impressively done. The stir fried water spinach and dry fried string beans were both nicely flavored, with lots of garlic showing through. My only comment would be that the water spinach was a little dull in color and could have been a little brighter, but it still tasted great. We took a chance with the stir fried tofu skin and hot peppers (mostly unknown to us), and I think it worked out well: think of it as shishito peppers plus tofu skin and a little sauce (though it was probably a slightly different variety of pepper). I was actually surprised by the large number of nicely cooked peppers in the dish. The kung pao calamari was flavorful, with lots of squid without skimping on vegetables. The squid was a little chewy, but I suspect that texture is part of what they were aiming for. All told, this was an excellent destination. I didn't know what to expect going in, but it will certainly be part of my rotation going forward.

Best bang for your buck. We ordered a lot of food for 5 and none of use left hungry. Everything we had was delicious and we each seemed to have our favorite dish. The shrimp was amazing! Service was pleasant and quick. It was clean and inviting. I would love to go back.

We had a really nice experience here! The food was hot, fresh, and flavorful. The atmosphere was modern and they have a nice space of tables. Our server was helpful in picking a few different types of dishes, and overall we enjoyed them all! My favorites were the eggplant stuffed pot stickers and the general tsos chicken. The eggplant was unique and flavorful and the chicken was perfectly crisp! Definitely give this place a try.

3rd time ordering from Uber Eats, had many things and it's becoming a favorite. I've had many different things, but so far the Shanghai Noodles/pork are my favorite and the Shanghai Rice (not pictured)... so good!

They have a series of vegetarian appetizers, but that's not their focus. In terms of the overall experience, the staff is very friendly and on top of things. We ordered takeout, but the online ordering site didn't give us a confirmation of our order. A quick call to the restaurant confirmed that everything was received and already in process. In terms of the food, the wood ear mushrooms and tofu skins was a clear winner. The broccoli was fine, but I would have preferred Chinese broccoli or watercress if they were available. The five spiced eggplant was fine: steamed to a custard-like level of softness, then paired with a salty sauce and served cold. The dan dan noodles were probably best suited for a dine-in experience and didn't really travel well. My partner tells me that the stuffed pork buns were good, but the solid piece of pork in the center was less optimal than something shredded or thinned out with some vegetable matter. All told, this was a good experience. The vegetarian appetizers were good but not exceptional. The various noodle and bun dishes were very nicely crafted. The hand made noodles were a particularly nice touch, with a lot more flavor and texture than I would have ever expected. If I have any requests, it would be for more vegetable centric noodle options.

My dad is the greatest food critic of all and he actually enjoyed the meals he has had here! So…read morethat's saying something. Growing up with home-cooked meals and living near New York Chinatown and Philly Chinatown, we have high standards for good Chinese food. My dad said How Lee has food ON PAR with both Chinatowns and that's a huge statement coming from my dad who would say something good as "not bad". I've read and seen the poor reviews here and I'm convinced that they're just ordering the wrong things. We ordered the CHONGQING FRIED DRY HOT CHICKEN (chicken deep fried), CHENDU FRIED DRY HOT CHICKEN (chicken pan fry), FISH FILET WITH CABBAGE IN PASTE CHILI, SHREDDED PORK WITH DRY TOFU, WEST LAKE MINCED BEEF SOUP, AND MAPO TOFU. The fried dry hot chicken explains itself and is very spicy so be careful! Many items are spicy and/or are cooked with chili oil so look closely at the menu if you want to less/no spicy food. The shredded pork and other stir fried items have great "wok hay", meaning the chef is experienced with the wok and how to maintain it well. Also the west lake minced beef soup is my all time favorite, and what I order when I'm homesick. Cantonese soups tend to be thicker than what people are used to, and it gives a different experience where you "eat" your soup. Whenever I'm craving Chinese food, this is the place to go. Service: The service is also on par with typical Chinese restaurants. Don't be offended if it's not "as friendly as American restaurants", that's just how our culture typically is. Interior: Every time my parents come here when they visit, they wonder why there's a big discrepancy between the food quality and the foot traffic in the restaurant. It has such a good location in Squirrel Hill and there's plenty of foot traffic on the corner of Forbes and Shady. We concluded that they probably should take initiate to market more and to modernize their interior a bit. The seats are taped up showing wear and tear, the decor is sparse and dusty, and their blinds are always closed making the restaurant more fluorescent and could mislead people to think they're closed. I think small changes can lead to big results! tldr; Food 5/5 Service 4/5 Interior 3.5/5

I do like soup noodles but it kinda just tasted regular and homey to me. I don't think there was much meat or veggies in it at all though. - steamed mini soup dumplings There were pretty good too (considering we are in Pittsburgh tbh). It's also at a decent price, sometimes I've seen soup dumplings for more than $15 which is ridiculous. It had some good flavor, and wasn't easy to rip the skin. I think the skin thickness was appropriate, not too thin or too thick. Glad to have some nostalgic and satisfying food around. It came hot but I wish we had the cover so we could delay the food from getting cold too quickly. - fish fillet w/ basil and garlic in stone hot pot I personally think this was the best dish. It was well seasoned and came sizzling hot with a side of rice. It has a tasty sauce that combined with the rice is amazing. Free street parking and plenty of tables inside. I'd get a reservation if you're bringing a lot of people like more than 6.
