My wife and I were recently looking for a tree service to remove an Orange tree that had died in our front yard. While we we at it, we decided to have a Pepper tree trimmed in our backyard. The pepper tree was extremely overgrown and was beyond my meager trimming skills. We were given a recommendation for Jensen's Tree service from Evergreen Nursery. I found the phone number and left a message. I received a callback from Ken Jensen a couple of days later. Ken said he would be able to come and look at the work that afternoon. He arrived about an hour later. He looked at the work that needed to be done and then offered suggestions on the best way to proceed. We wanted the stump removed from the Orange tree and Ken said he would make arrangements for that and include that in his estimate. Ken gave us our estimate and it was acceptable to us. He said he would call us back to schedule the work. He called us about an hour later and scheduled a date about 2 weeks later. On the day of the work Ken and his crew showed up right on time. They made quick work of removing the tree in the front yard. They cleaned up the front yard while the stump was being ground out. We told Ken we planned on planting another tree in the same location, so he had the area prepped for planting the new tree. They trimmed the pepper tree, raising the canopy and giving it shape. Ken also trimmed a smaller tree that was growing under the canopy of the pepper tree. When they were finished they cleaned the yard and had us inspect it before they left. The yard was cleaner than when they had started. I was very impressed with their attention to detail. They did not damage any of the plants in the yard. Part of the pepper tree hung over my neighbors driveway, so they swept up the neighbors driveway. All of the leaves were removed from my roof and the roof of the neighbors garage. I can wholeheartedly recommend Jensen's and will use them again without hesitation. read more

I am truthfully a bit mystified by all the great reviews for this company. I am just a renter, my landlord hired these folks to trim our trees. They've been here for 2 days and they just left. I think they've practically killed the trees. There's no way we can have any shade from these trees for at least a couple of years. Kind of feel like this is criminal. Wasn't pleased that they drove on our wet backyard area for our pets and totally mangled it with their tires. For whatever reason, they left a huge fallen tree branch that was from our neighbor's tree, on our mutual fence. They were good on clean up I will say that. Otherwise, I don't understand the good ratings that they've received. read more

I called Jensen's to have a couple of trees removed. Earl returned my call, said he would be happy to do the job and scheduled a time. The day the removal was to happen, someone else called me and said he works for Jensen's and that Earl asked him to come out and do the work because Earl was tied up at another location. Okay, no problem. I had read all the five-star reviews and assumed that I could trust whoever was working for Jensen's. The guy came out, did reasonably okay with the work (not great, just okay) and then complained that the check we had left for him should have been made out to him, not Jensen's. Because, as it turns out, he does NOT work for Jensen's. Earl had given him my phone number and the appointment time because he was too busy to come out himself. Then, when I made the check out to this other guy's service, a THIRD guy called me and wanted the check to be made out to him because he said he had been given the work by the second guy. AND he complained about having to come out to the house again to pick it up! He preferred that I drop it off for him at his business. The number of voice mails and messages back and forth to get this resolved was ridiculous. It would have been a much more efficient use of my time in the long run if I had just cut down the trees myself. I am extremely disappointed that a business so highly-rated on Yelp would send my job out to someone else without informing me of that. I called Jensen's because of these reviews. If I had known my job was going to be farmed out to some random guy I know nothing about, I would have called someone else. read more

Think leaf blowers are bad? Try 5 1/2 hours of chain saws and manly yelling at the end of your driveway. When Jenson's Tree Services trimmed a palm tree on my property line, they parked their wood chipper next to a super shiny, bright red Jeep with the top off. I might have chosen a different spot. They brought out a crummy looking tarp and covered part of the open top, but not all. Since they didn't fully cover the open roof, when they chipped the palm fronds, it snowed sawdust into the Jeep, making a nice pattern around the saint mounted on the dash. Not wanting to cause trouble with giant guys wielding chains saws who btw had not stopped for lunch, I hid inside my house and took pictures. Eventually, there was an end to the racket and I took a full on Gladys Kravitz view of the Jeep. They had vacuumed it out! No crazy palm tree sawdust anywhere. What's the world coming to? read more

You can't go wrong with Earl Jenson and his crew. They are super professional and they get the job DONE! Not only that, but the price is extremely fair for the amount of work these guys do. It's actually a bargain. Earl and his guys removed a giant oak tree from my back yard that was basically devouring my house. The trunk of the tree was leaning up against the eaves and the top of the tree with all its large branches was resting on the roof. Earl used ropes and pulleys to ensure that as he was cutting the branches they did not fall on the roof, causing damage that could have led to leaks and a future nightmare for me. I'm so grateful! I would have hated to solve one problem and introduce another. Thank you, Earl, for sparing me from that! He then went above and beyond my expectations by cleaning up to the point of pristine loveliness in my back yard! He cleaned all the leaves and mold from the roof. This stuff was caked on after many years and Earl got rid of all of it, making it clean enough to eat off of! I'm so grateful. A huge side benefit is that my allergies have improved drastically!! All that mold and leaf debris was causing me to suffer so much, but no more. He removed every scrap of debris and saw dust and left my yard looking AWESOME. I wish every service provider was as professional, diligent, and fair as Earl Jenson. Earl, you are a prince among men!! I don't write many reviews, but I had to write this one, because I'm blown away by the results I received vs. the price I paid. Earl came out pretty quickly after I called him and gave me an estimate. He also had lots of advice on how to maintain the other bushes and plants in my yard. We made an appointment...but then called me up two weeks EARLY and said he "found some time" to do the job. He came over...and by the time I was home from work, my two over-grown orange trees were taken care of. Wow. What a great job he did and also, the clean-up was way better than I imagined. Did you ever go so long without a haircut that you are tempted to take the scissors to your own head? Well, we tried - pathetically - to trim the neglected trees on our property, with no real impact on their defiant growth. They were constantly laughing at my husbands attempts to tame the flurry of leaves and rotted fruit they left lying about day and night to taunt him. My husband would rake, sweep, huff and puff and blow expletives into the air...and the next morning the mess would be back. I was surprised to get an answer on Saturday, when my husband and I had agreed to do something about our out of control Trees. Earl answered, Earl was close by, Earl came right over. (Wow, for realz?) Earl seemed like regular folk, except for that obvious absence of fear and doubt, oh Tree Master. He confidently made recommendations, confirmed the scope of work, gave us an estimate and a handshake (who does that anymore?). I'm writing this on Monday, two days later, and my husband will have to find something new to huff and puff about because the Trees have been tamed! Earl and his very nice crew have come and gone. They were polite, friendly, and conquered our beastly Trees, trimming them into submission. They worked well together, with respect to our neighbors property, and without complaint about the heat. They were ever so grateful for the homemade Meyer lemonade slushies I made for them as a thank you for their good work. We were referred to Earl Jenson by our Realtor a few months after we moved to our house. We have lots of trees on our property - oaks, pines, redwoods, maples, fruit trees. Unfortunately, several of the Monterey Pines were at the end of their life span of approximately 85 years, or had succumbed to disease. Earl came over, sussed out the situation, gave us a price and then went to work. It was amazing to see this wiry guy climb up a 100 foot tree carrying a gas powered chain saw and a spool of rope. He would quickly tie off the limbs, cut them off and lower them down to his crew. He was accurate, fast and careful. The crew also does a great clean up job. Since we first engaged Earl ten years ago, we have had him come over every year or so to prune our oak trees and some of our Japanese maples. He is an absolute master and thins them out and shapes them beautifully. Oh, and his nickname is Earl the Squirrel, presumably because of his skill of climbing trees. Doesn't get better than that! Based entirely on Yelp reviews, we hired Earl and his crew to take down a rotten/dying/falling plum tree in our backyard. Within 24 hours of that first call the tree was gone, the stump ground down and a massive pile of ivy removed as well. Like someone said below, Earl's crew left our entire backyard looking better than when they arrived, despite all the arboreal carnage that occurred. Looking forward to hiring Earl again in a couple of years when the darn ivy overgrows the fence again. I'd love to have it eradicated altogether, but our neighbors love it. read more

Jenson's clearly paid Yelp to remove my earlier review, claiming that I had not "hired" them. True, as they set up their operation in my driveway after my neighbor hired them. When I came home, they were sitting on my car, eating lunch. They were super intimidating when I asked them politely to move out of my driveway, and refused. When they left, they left my yard strewn with the trash from their lunch. Yelp said, "It's not clear to us that you had firsthand experience with them." LOL. read more

We got quotes from several of the bigger services and Earl's was lower by about 3-400 dollars. He did a great job taking down two trees and cutting back some stumps that had been left by earlier work. He also trimmed one tree, which could have been done somewhat better, but was fine. I would definitely use him again and recommend him, especially for tree removal. read more

Jensen's removed a 4-story tall birch tree that unfortunately died during the drought. The tree was close to our house and power lines - amazing how they navigated and 'dis-assembled' the tree. Five of their crew took the tree down in about 2 hours and left us with lots of fire wood. read more

If you like your trees and your garden, BEWARE: 1) He is a tree trimmer, not an arborist (and willingly breaks county regs by cutting oak trees w/o permits). 2) He subcontracts to non-professionals (w/o telling the buyer). 3) Gardens beneath or around trees get destroyed by dropping limbs. 4) Cuts trees for the buyer wants, whether the tree species will survive cut or not. 5) Industrial clean up crews are destructive to home gardening. I hired him to trim a giant tree that was threatening to overtake my yard, and within a day of looking at the job he had finished the work, totally cleaned up the site and even cut firewood-length logs from the branches and piled them neatly in the yard. This crew is amazing! My uncle needed to have a tree removed from our backyard... I'm talking HUGE with many of the biggest limbs leaning over our neighbors house. He came over right away and gave a reasonably priced quote. I discussed it with my uncle and decided to go ahead and use his services. He removed this tree in two days, even with it being some of the hottest days its been in a while! His whole crew was extremely kind and they made sure to clean up very carefully after they were done. I can't say enough good things about Jenson's Tree Services. Earl Jenson and his crew recently trimmed a large Cedar tree in front of our house, removed a Birch tree, and trimmed several other small bushes and vines in our yard. We were very nervous to trim the Cedar tree as it is such an essential asset to our property and it is much loved by our neighbors. But Earl Jensen did a fantastic job! It was very clear watching the crew work that they knew what they were doing and understood the art of trimming trees properly. Earl Jensen is truly an artist. Not only does the Cedar tree look great, but the crew was incredibly professional, cleaned up the yard after they completed the work, and even followed up to make sure we were happy with the job. Since having the Cedar tree trimmed, several neighbors have dropped by to admire the tree and mentioned how grateful they were that we didn't just get it hacked. Earl is great! I just had a HUGE Oak Tree drastically trimmed by his company and they did exactly what I wanted. Earl's staff were very curteous and totally cleaned up all of the branches/leaves, etc. The price he quoted me during his initial assessment was also the exact price I paid. I needed two large black acacia trees removed from my yard. I thought that it will take forever. They came out right on time at 8:30am. Chris and his crew was very efficient and skillful and removed the trees in about 4hours. I was also impressed with how they roped the tree limbs made sure that they can come down in controlled and safe manner. Earl Jenson Rocks! I am a volunteer at Castlemont Community Garden in East Oakland. When we began sprucing up the garden last fall, there was thistle and other weeds 4 ft. high. We were constantly weeding and wanted to mulch. After buying too much from gardening stores with poor results, someone gave us the idea of contacting tree trimmers. Earl was one of the first people I called, and while I had a couple other leads, he was the only one who followed through. He brings us mulch whenever we call and ask, and the mulched weedless paths have had an immeasurable impact on the garden. The space feels open and without the distracting weeds the colors of the vegetables and fruit trees are brilliant. Students enjoy mulching and they enjoy hanging out in the garden. If it weren't for Earl's help the garden would not be the success that it is. read more

They balanced all the trees, included a few other wayward branches from other trees, did a beautiful cleanup job,and were done 4.5 hours. After the recent earthquakes, the very tall and big pine tree in our front yard split in two, and half of it came down into the yard and partly on the roof of our front porch. I went out that morning to walk the dog and found a tree in my path. So I started calling around to various tree services and arborists. Finally found Jenson's Tree Services, a third-generation family business. I left a message, and was called back a few hours later by the friendly owner, Earl, who had his son and a crew out there within 1/2 hour of the phone call. They made an estimate, we accepted, and they began work right away. Earl's son, Kenneth, was on-site working with the crew. They all worked quickly, safely, and efficiently. The whole tree had to come down, and they got done what they could before dark that day, and came back on the next business day (Monday) to finish the job. I liked that Earl called me on Sunday to tell me when they would be at my property the next day. He gave me a 1/2 hour window, and they were there exactly at the beginning of that time frame. They cut the tree down to the stump, and cut up the smaller boughs into firewood for us, and stacked them in the yard. They also cleaned up SO nicely, cleaner than it was before the tree fell, using rakes and a leaf blower. Clean porch, clean sidewalk, clean yard, clean roof. I even saw one guy picking out pine needles from one of my potted plants. I wholeheartedly recommend these guys, and would call them again if we need tree services in the future. read more

Earl runs a small ship so don't expect any hand holding or immediate call backs. He is straight up and honest. I have been using him for 11 years in Berkeley to help take down and trim some of the many trees we have...all of them large. Not all tree service is the same. Earl is a good fit for us. We are flexible and have built an ongoing relationship around that flexibility. If you need to have your hand held and don't know much about what your job entails you might be best served to try another firm which will more than likely charge more. read more

They also helped us remove a couple of other trees (one of which had fallen in the storms this past winter) from a somewhat tricky hill. The team was professional, cheerful, and fun. I'm mystified by today's other review. Our experience with Jensen's was the opposite. We needed some Eucalyptus trees and a pine tree removed because they were raining debris down on our house and garden. We live on a steep up-slope in Oakland, so the trees were pretty difficult to access. A friend recommended Jensen's. Earl gave us a good quote. He (personally) and his crew completed the job quickly and efficiently, and left our property cleaner than it was before they arrived. Despite the fact that the trees were overhanging our garden, Jensen's didn't damage a single plant, with the exception of a one solitary, disposable mint stalk. Were it not for the bent stalk and missing trees, I would have thought someone had snuck onto our property and cleaned it. We would highly recommend Jensen's! read more

The crew of men came this past Monday they came on time they did what they said you were going to do and when they were finished the way they cleaned up was phenomenal . Earl and his crew have done two major jobs for me in the past few years. He cleaned out two cedars in my back garden, and bolted one of them to stabilize it. The job was well done and aesthetically very pleasing. Today he did a major cutting back of a large messy ash tree. He and his crew got the job done quickly and left no mess behind. I have a large oak in my front yard which used lean over my roof. Periodically I hired arborists to trim the tree back, and especially to cut back the branches hanging over my roof. But no one would do the severe cutting required. Finally last fall I hired Jensen Tree Service. They removed the large branch which had been leaning over my house, another branch which had been leaning over my neighbor's house, and balanced the tree. They also cleaned up both my yard and my neighbor's yard, all for the estimate they had quoted me. The team removed large chunks of branch without damaging the house or the shrubbery. Before: 1 overgrown pepper tree, 2 pine trees, and 1 ? tree. Once the wind/rain picked up, it was a matter of time before something fell and took our house or the neighbor's house out. After: Pepper tree reduced by 2/3, 2 pine trees totally removed, a 1 ? tree trimmed to leave the large branches only. All of this was finished by noon. The yard looks amazing, and the clean up made our place look better than original. We highly endorse these folks. They're a good group of people, friendly, and honest. They must keep pretty busy - because the appointment we made was well over a month out - but I wasn't in a hurry. They called about a week before the appointment to verify. Showed up on time.
