I had a mixed experience with Alejandro over the 6-8 months I worked with him. While he was…read moregenerally responsive and made lots of promises, he misrepresented himself as an arborist when I needed one for tree root pruning around a sidewalk permit with the City of Oakland. Alejandro only told the truth after we had gathered a big 10-person crew of my general contractor's team, the city inspector and whole concrete team ready to pour the sidewalk. With all these men looking to him for approval as the arborist, he buckled and admitted he wasn't a "certified arborist" but a "licensed arborist." We were all dumbfounded. This colossal waste of time cost me several thousand dollars more from a two week delay and extra man hours over Xmas, when Alejandro left a big safety hazard of sharp nails, overturned plywood, and a mess of wood chips on the sidewalk that another crew had to manage when he was a no-show on the cleaning part. At least he did actually prune the roots after he found a real "certified arborist" to replace him. He did cut back the tree branches just fine. But If you need anything more official than a tree haircut, I don't recommend you choose Alejandro.

Isai responded within the hour with an offer to drop by for a free consultation and his contact information. We were able to schedule something for the next day which had to get pushed back another day, but throughout it all, Isai was very communicative and punctual. I received a number of quotes within three days from my Yelp request and Isai was the most reasonable by far. We were able to book a day and time that worked for us the week after. Before our appointment, Isai reached out with at least six different photos of options for ground cover and I appreciated being included in this process even though I don't have extensive knowledge of landscaping or gardening at all. The day of, Isai and his team came in the morning and within just a few hours, completely transformed our front and back yard. They worked quickly and methodically to uproot all of the weeds from the front rock garden and in between the concrete; shaped various shrubbery and trees; weed all of the planters in the back yard, lay down landscaping fabric, and also the mulch; and, sweep up various leaves and fallen fruit. Payment was easy through Zelle and as he left, he notified us that the yard waste would be a little heavy because the weeds were wet. He also asked if we had pets (we don't). He indicated that weeding the front yard was difficult and that a little Round Up at the first inkling of weeds would go a long way in keeping them at bay. We are truly impressed by Isai and his team and very thankful. I would not hesitate to recommend them and to request their services again.

So I needed someone with more attention to detail in terms of knowing when to prune, pulling weeds, etc. Isai and his team are amazing! They consistently come on schedule and are very good about assessing different needs during each visit, and focusing on the right maintenance tasks. I have been slowly landscaping my entire yard myself, so there are frequent changes, and Isai and his team are able to assess and adapt to any changes without issues. I have recommended them to multiple neighbors, and they now also do my next door neighbor's bi-weekly yard maintenance as well. They do a great job and I highly recommend them!

We had Jose from Vega's Tree Service out to look at some dying hedges and chose to have them plant…read morereplacements. Jose and his crew did a good job. Based on that job, we had Jose come back to price planting of sago palms and trimming trees/bushes/hedges. His price sounded good so we scheduled a one-day job for the work. On the scheduled Tuesday, a crew of three arrived (but not Jose to lead the work). We had to explain to the lead what we wanted done (same as we had explained to Jose before). The lead did not appear to understand us completely. The lead even FaceTimed with Jose for clarification. Apparently, that didn't make it any clearer for the lead...as evidenced by the crew's work. During the first three hours, the crew only managed to plant the sago palms...half of them planted too deep in depressions. They ran out of soil. The lead found a bag on my property and asked if they could use it. After I told him no, he used it anyway and said he misunderstood me. One guy also had to leave to buy more soil for the sagos. After I complained to Jose, the crew provided a replacement bag of soil. The crew trimmed the palm trees and hedges ok. They, however, botched the rest of their work. They butchered the bushes, fruit trees and other trees. They only completed about have the work and didn't cleanup at the end of their day...saying they'd be back on Friday. We feel it is unacceptable for them to have left the job site in such a state...even if they planned to return. The crew also broke a yard lantern. Not sure if we can get a replacement. We cancelled their Friday return and only paid them for the work completed. We are not satisfied with either the partial job done or the price charged for that partial job. It's crap. Vega Tree Service clearly had a more important job elsewhere and sent an inexperienced/subpar lead and crew to do our job. Poor customer service. We will not be using Vega's Tree Service again. We also cannot recommend them to other customers.

Chris dumped wood chips at my house after we were connected by ChipDrop. This is meant to be…read moremutually beneficial: arborists dump chips for cheap and gardeners get free chips. Chris drove the dump truck, loaded with 14 cubic yards, directly over pavers that my friends and I painstakingly prepped and placed, despite there being plenty of obviously non-paver driveway. His driving error upended my pavers and even broke some of them. Then, driving off of the pavers (over the edge of my driveway) then back up over the driveway again to line up the truck messed up the _driveway_ too. All he said was that he didn't see the footpath and that I could get use glue on one of the broken pavers; no apologies, no offer to make things right, just griping about how he wished he could have gotten rid of the chips sooner because they were already decomposing in the truck (he had called ahead with urgency that it would be inconvenient for him to arrive in the afternoon like he planned, so I was trying to accommodate him arriving in the middle of one of my appointments with 20 minutes notice). Obviously this review isn't for tree service. However, both professionalism and machine operation are--I dare presume--integral parts of the arborist business and probably important to you too as a customer. Chris showed aptitude in neither in his work on my property and I can't recommend his business Tree Mechanics.

We been holding off on getting our backyard fence repaired as there were a few damaged and loose…read moreboards that accumulated over the last few years due to the weather. Thankfully, Yelp has been super helpful with our search for a contractor and we landed on using Garcia Fencing. We reached out for a quote and the contractor Kenny was quick in setting up a time to come over for an initial assessment (discussed what needed to be fixed and what style of wood (board on board)/stain to fix with) and quote of the overall cost. Let's just say the overall project to replace all the backyard fence can be pretty expensive but we received a reasonable estimate. It only took them about a little bit more than half a day to get the entire fence replaced which was super impressive. We did end up having to call them back another day to do some additional fixes for some gaps on the fences that we noticed but they were able to come to fix those up. The new fence did end up looking very nice and sturdy! The stain really does make it look very polished and clean. Overall, we had a good experience working with Garcia fencing and would recommend for any future fencing needs. Also warranty is seven years so def a big help for any future fencing concerns.

Emmanuel came out within a day or so of initial contact and quoted me a fair price for removal and grinding of the stump. The work was arranged about a week later. The crew arrived early and was done after only an hour and a half. They carefully swept and blew away the sawdust and other remnants after finishing up. My neighbors were shocked how quickly the work was done. Later in the afternoon, Emmanuel called to check on the quality of the work to make sure everything was done well.
