I would give Steve from Mac's Tree Service 6 stars, if I could, and I wish I had found them earlier. Steve came recommended from a friend of mine. They did such a great job that I felt the need to provide a positive review for them. I had to take down a small tree in my backyard and a half chopped down tree from my front yard, and then, grind both stumps. The small tree in my backyard poses a challenge because of my terraced yard. Steve came to my place, assessed the job and gave me a very fair quote (compared to the others that I got). On the day of the job, they arrived early and got the job done within a short period of time. They had to come back the following day with a smaller stump grinder for the terraced backyard tree. He and his crew tackled two 60-foot cypress trees that were in desperate need of maintenance along with one tragic plumb tree that needed to be removed. His "climber" was poetry in motion cutting back the boughs of the cypress trees. The rest of his crew took such care cutting, removing, and chipping the limbs. Two of the trees were on the property line, and my neighbor was very happy with how clean his yard was when the work was done. Steve's crew even cut and stacked the logs to season and left a neat pile of wood chips for the neighbors to use for garden mulch. read more

Holy smokes, we have neighbors behind us! No really, our backyard hedge really was that large and looming big (again) before The Mac's service came and tackled it for us. We took way too long in asking Steve from The Mac's back this time. I apologized to him once they arrived. I actually told Steve that he should have put on some armor - and some headgear. I was a bit worried since I was pretty sure that there were two or three families of wild raccoons and a bunch of rats living in that gigantic hedge already. But Steve didn't seem worried. Not one bit. He just smiled and got to work with one other person. They were at our house for about four hours working non stop. They took care of our back hedge, trimmed trees, threw everything in the wood chipper and cleaned up the entire mess. Yeah! Steve and his employee (forgive me I forgot your name!) were so courteous too. They went to my neighbor's houses on either side of us to let them know that they would soon be using the wood chipper and give them warning in case they needed to move their cars out of their driveways. Called The Mac's Tree Service at 10AM Tuesday. They were in touch before end of business Wednesday and here taking the tree down by 1145AM Thursday. They parked the truck appropriately, left our yard clean, and the quote given was the exact price on the invoice. They took down a 12ft. fig tree, and had the yard looking good in less than 20 minutes. No bullsh*t, they were outta here with a job well done in less than 45 minutes. They raked the area of our yard and were nice to my insane dog who is freaked out by everything. They outsource stump removal to another business, but that was not our main concern. Steve was cutting a tree at my neighbors house and I thought it would be a great opportunity to have him look at my palm tree because I wanted to cut it down. He gave me a bid on the spot which was very reasonable. Because it was a heritage tree he told me I had to get a permit with the city of Pacifica and then he could cut it. The process was very easy and he was prompt at scheduling my tree to be cut down after I got the permit. I was very satisfied with his work. He was very careful not to damage anything when the pieces fell on the ground and he even got the stump removed.There was a pile of ground stump left and he came back and hauled it away exactly when he said he would . Finally got around to cutting the 3 tall trees including a large amount of shrubbery in our back yard that were on a slope. No easy task but Steve did an awesome job - he was thorough, efficient, professional, punctual, and knowledgeable. We didn't have to lift a finger. Steve McNicoll, of Mac's is a hero after scaling our 60 year old huge pine tree, cutting gently and carefully around electrical and telephone wires, hanging and swinging on his climbing ropes to cut limbs and avoid any contact with cars and houses (the tree was right up on our house). I was looking to rid my property of some shrubs and some small trees. I had experience with this one company a few years back, but when I got the estimate from Steve, I knew that the last job was overpriced. Steve was friendly and professional and we worked out details such as being able to do the work without me having to take a day off. Even a last minute request was accommodated for at a fair price. When I came home, the shrubs and trees were gone and his crew left no "footprint" of ever being there...just the stumps as I had requested.
