Chris dumped wood chips at my house after we were connected by ChipDrop. This is meant to be mutually beneficial: arborists dump chips for cheap and gardeners get free chips. Chris drove the dump truck, loaded with 14 cubic yards, directly over pavers that my friends and I painstakingly prepped and placed, despite there being plenty of obviously non-paver driveway. His driving error upended my pavers and even broke some of them. Then, driving off of the pavers (over the edge of my driveway) then back up over the driveway again to line up the truck messed up the _driveway_ too. All he said was that he didn't see the footpath and that I could get use glue on one of the broken pavers; no apologies, no offer to make things right, just griping about how he wished he could have gotten rid of the chips sooner because they were already decomposing in the truck (he had called ahead with urgency that it would be inconvenient for him to arrive in the afternoon like he planned, so I was trying to accommodate him arriving in the middle of one of my appointments with 20 minutes notice). Obviously this review isn't for tree service. However, both professionalism and machine operation are--I dare presume--integral parts of the arborist business and probably important to you too as a customer. I was concerned about our sewer line based on another company scaring me. Chris quickly took a look and was able to assess where our water lines were and calm my fears. He and his crew are all business, four guys in harnesses and safety gear trimming your trees, navigating around power lines, highly organized. We had two 70-foot amber trees in back yard plus other trees where branches too close to house. Took them all day but they got it all done. Cleaned up very well, furniture put back in place, etc. Experience counts. It's another reminder about the fast, good, cheap triangle. If it's good and fast it's not cheap. We can't say enough great things about Chris! We hired Tree Mechanics to remove multiple trees that had grown into shared property lines, including a coastal oak that had literally grown through a chain link fence and a plum tree that had grown entangled with a neighbor's tree. We also needed an expert to care for 60+ year old Magnolia grandiflora that was showing signs of drought stress. Chris was responsive throughout each stage via email, phone, and text -- from his initial visit to create a detailed estimate through the job completion -- which all took place within a 2 week timeframe. We were in a quandry: the two (75 foot?) redwood trees were overgrown and we needed to do something. Should we cut them down (hard decision for an amature botanist) or attempt to have them trimmed (could that even be done aesthetically)? Chris from Tree Mechanics confirmed the trees were healthy and looked at the trees from all angles, taking numerous photos. The redwoods were in the corner of the backyard, very close to the fence and the yards of three neighbors. It would be challenging but Chris recommend trimming them. Wow, was I glad I accepted that advice. Chris and his crew of four arrived right on time. It took about 45 minutes to bring all the gear in and another hour perhaps to get the lines placed but the prep work paid off. Then the shaping of the trees began. With great attention to safety Chris and Matt pruned limbs with precision. They showed great teamwork, using radios built in their helmets to communicate with each other and the three on the ground. One person managed the lines and two others cleaned up as the limbs went down. Chris made excellent decisions as to which branches to cut and which branches to keep. In the end, the heavy growth at the bottom was removed and branches higher up were thinned to allow for more air to pass through, providing added safety. No large branches ended up in the three neighbors' yards and nothing around that tight space was damaged. The trees now look terrific. If you are considering using this company think again. I used them 3 years ago and they were reasonable. I don't know what happened since then but they will take advantage of you. I had a large branch of an oak tree in the backyard fall into two neighbors yards. I was given an estimate to clean one of the yards at $600.I cleaned that one myself to save some money because of the estimate on the other yard cleanup was way more. when they cleaned up that yard they said there was two branches that had to be removed all of the sudden. That added $500. So much for saving. Plus knowing that the tree was to be cut down soon we even more infuriating.now regarding the cutting down of the tree. The estimate was for twice as much as I paid for Graham tree service to do it without any issues ! And in one day when Chris said it would take 2 1/2 days. read more

I reached out to Tree Mechanics yesterday because I wanted a 40-foot tall tree removed from my backyard. I used Yelp to request a quote last night and immediately received a message from Tree Mechanics to schedule an on-site visit to get a quote. We agreed that they would come over this morning. Chris called at 930 to confirm that it was still OK to come over and said he could arrive in 20 minutes. He arrived on time, and within 10 minutes, inspected the tree, provided an assessment of the health/stability of the tree, offered multiple options (trim vs. removal vs. trim and reinforcement), and gave an itemized cost estimate (removal, stump removal, recycling fee). To my shock, Chris said he happened to have his crew in the truck, and that they could immediately start the job if I wanted. I accepted that offer. At around 10:30 the crew began taking the tree down. By 2:00, they had completely removed the tree and completely cleaned up the mess. They were gone by 2:30. This crew just completed my overgrown Maple Tree that was in front of my house. My husband really wanted the tree to be removed, but I cannot bare the idea of having no shade when the sun is out. I had 8 mature 20+ feet palm trees growing very close to my fence. The roots of the palms started damaging the fence and hence I needed to get them removed. I could not have asked for a better experience from start to finish. Chris's quote was very clear and left absolutely no questions about what had to be done and how much it was going to cost (plus,he was very cool with my little kid following him around). A few days before our appointment, he came and put up the no-parking signs (parking on my street is like roller derby). The day of (today) Chris and crew (all great human beings; friendly, courteous and focused on the job) showed up and got to work. All I had to do was basically open the front gate and hand them a check.
