Recently, we realized that, for the health of the trees, they both needed a good trim again. That's normal for a healthy tree. The California Pepper is up high on the property where it gets a lot of wind. It looked seriously top-heavy and we were a bit afraid it might topple during a big storm, especially if the ground is saturated. We could tell that the tree just needed more space all over to get light and air to the crown and for the health of the roots. Ditto on the Birch, which is near our patio: overgrown and light and air not reaching the interior of the tree equally. Randy came out for an estimate and clarified what we wanted done. It helped that we had "After" photos from 5 years ago so we were all on the same page about the scope of work. The quote was reasonable and fair. Randy scheduled us for just 2 days later and Oscar and the crew showed up exactly on time and ready to work. Randy and the crew were on high alert for bird nests, but there weren't any. Randy said that they have a procedure to follow if they find bird's nests so we were happy about that. The crew was professional and worked safely, as we had expected since we had used them twice before. Communication with Oscar, the Foreman, was excellent. He listened closely and offered great advice. They took their time to assess each cut so that the overall balance was correct. They did an excellent clean up job and returned all the patio stuff they had to move out of the way to exactly where we wanted it. Since these trees were trimmed, we've had several 24 hour periods where the wind just never stopped. I believe some of the gusts were up to 50 MPH. We were so glad we'd already had this work done! It was time to trim some trees on our property. We set out to get some quotes from different tree trimming companies. On the advice of a family relative, we also solicited a quote from Cal Tree Care. Tom and Randy came by to look at the project and submitted a very competitive estimate. They also seemed very knowledgeable about how to go about trimming our trees. Our projected included trimming a 30 foot birch tree, a 12 foot crape myrtle, and two cherry trees. While some other tree trimmers proposed topping the crape myrtle, Tom and Randy were insistent that it only be thinned and trimmed back, not topped. We decided to go with Cal Tree Care. They were able to put us on the schedule pretty quickly. On the day of service, a large crew showed up in the morning as promised, and were done by 1pm. They were professional and respectful of our property, and even worked with my partner to select some birch branches for a decorating project of hers. Most importantly, we were very happy with the trimming work--they thinned and trimmed where appropriate and left the trees looking great. I will be calling them for all future tree work. I'm updating the rating because looking at the photo and going outside to look at the tree I'm unhappy with how the workers "trimmed" the tree. As you can see from the photo the workers "buzz cut" the tree. I have never seen trimming like this where it literally looked like they cut straight across the top and practically cut off most of the branches. This type of cut would be ok for shrubs in front of your house, but not for a tree. I would think they would have tried to round out the top and lightly trimmed it. (I looked at other photos from their site and it looked liked they trimmed the tree "correctly") I've shown the photo to a few people and the look on their faces of the "After" photo was one of "what the heck"?! And the response for most is, "That's how they trimmed the tree? (long pause) well...it'll grow back...". I hope so... Until it does I have to look at this everyday.... :( read more

Our redwood trees growing too high that they needed some trimming to prevent them from falling down from the wind or storm. We called several places to get a quote on trimming them. Randy came out when promised. We discussed multiple trees. He informed me that we should wait until the end of summer to trim the Magnolia tree to protect it from the harsh summer sun rays. He said that PG&E thinned out the Jacaranda a little too much while they were cutting the branches away from the power lines. That's 2 trees that an unscrupulous person would have had his team trim just to make money, but not Randy. The other 2 trees are Birch trees and we came to an agreement on what and how to trim those trees. Randy gave me an incredible price and we set up a date for the following day for the trimming. Oscar and his crew came out right on time. Oscar made sure that I wanted one of the trees drastically trimmed. That tree is within a few feet of my sunroom and deposits leaves and catkins in the gutters blocking the downspouts. At 80 years old, my children have pleaded with me to stop climbing a ladder to clean out the gutters and it was getting too expensive to have someone clean the gutters. So the only solution was drastic cutting of that tree. Once Oscar knew the full story, he and his crew completed the trimming and did a marvelous job of both trimming and cleaning up afterwards. I love Cal Tree Care! They came to cut back a hugely overgrown and gigantic hedge running the side of our yard next to our neighbors house. Quite a bit of work! All work and chipping was messy but now it looks better than what was there. A week ago PGE did a major trimming of my 3 large oak trees that were growing close to some overhead power lines. However, PGE left a huge unwanted MESS and NEVER CLEANED UP A THING. The trimming was 4ft wide and 3-5 ft high running the length of my yard. PGE promised at the time to clean up their mess. Yelp does it again. Needed some tree services at work. We had not done any real tree work in ~10 years and it was badly needed. I called 3 places. This place wasn't the cheapest, but it was priced fairly. The professionalism and the my gut feeling when meeting with the estimators made me go with these guys. I could not be happier. Yes, it took a while before they could start work, but that was the case with all of the tree places. Who know tree services is in such demand. I didn't even think it was high season. The workers came when they promised and the work is amazing. The trees look great. The ones that we removed were totally removed. We have tall 30+ feet eucalyptus, 30' palms, short stubby palms, lots of acacia, they took care of all of them I had them do some additional work after they had already started. I was half expecting them to charge a lot for this "change" but the price again was VERY fair. The added work didn't make the job take any longer than originally estimated. I asked how often we should have them come back out, every year? They were honest with me and suggested 2-3. For sure I would recommend these guys for any tree work. read more

Tom and Randy came over to provide an estimate and were very friendly and informative. Their estimate seemed fair and was nearly half that of another company's. We had a huge oak tree trimmed in our front yard. An experienced and thorough crew performed the work and Tom and Randy stopped by to check on the quality and progress. The crew was one guy up in the tree doing trimming and shaping and two on the ground doing lower trimming and putting the cuttings into the wood chipper. They thoroughly cleaned up the whole work area including the neighbor's driveway. The resulting tree is safe, healthy, and attractive! They even managed to blend in PG&E's severe 90 degree angle cut accommodating the high voltage lines. We are planning to build a tree-house for our son in a gorgeous tree that we have in our backyard. But before starting the project we wanted to know the health of our tree and if a tree-house would damage (kill) the tree. I called Cal Tree Care on Monday (2/28) for a price quote to have someone come out and educate us about our tree. It is said that 'Time is money', so we were expecting to pay for someone to come out. Tom (I think it was Tom) said "don't worry about it, we can come out for free", and scheduled us for first thing the following morning (8am). "Yeah right, free my A#$" I was thinking, this guy is gonna try to pull the 'ole' bait and switch' trick on us. I was so concerned about Cal Tree Care pulling a fast one on us, I had a second number on hand for a second opinion. The next morning comes around and I was at work, so my wife would have to deal with Cal Tree Care on her own. I was concerned for 2 reasons; 1) I thought they would lie about the health of our tree just to get business and 2) that they would force my wife to sign a contract for unnecessary tree services. I was ABSOLUTELY wrong. My wife could not say enough positive things about her experience with Tom and Randy (2 branches from the same tree, these guys are inseparable): They were punctual, that in itself is a big statement about the value of their word. My wife said they took their time to educate her on the species of both our trees in our backyard, gave her a guesstimate on the age of the trees, the health of the trees and some advice on pruning the trees and some other general information and recommendations. They were super pleasant, courteous and very professional during their visit. At not point during their visit did they pressure her to signup for anything. On the contrary, all the pruning and trimming recommendations they said we could easily do ourselves, and even explained to her how to do it. Cal Tree Care completed some tree trimming work at our home today. We moved into our home in late Nov 2016, and with the recent rains everyone who visits our home freak out about our pines in the backyard. Quote process: I found Call Tree Care on both Yelp and Nextdoor and reached out on Friday, Jan 13th, to see if they can check out the trees at our home and provide recommendations (trimming or removal). I called them and they said they could stop by in a couple of hours. Randy and Tom both came and they are a hoot! They should take their comedy routine on the road! They looked at all the trees (I didn't even know we had as many as we did) and made some recommendations. Tom walked up our hill to check out the trees. They said the 2 pine trees that we were concerned about were fine and needed trimming/lightening. We have 6 trees and they recommended trimming 4 and cutting back the boxwood creeping over our fence from the neighbor's side. The process took less than an hour. Decision: We choose to go with Cal Tree because they gave a fair price, answered my many questions, and didn't try to convince me to cut my large pine down like another service did. I looked at the weather forecast and picked a date (today) for them to do the work. Tree trimming day (today): The crew, headed by Oscar, arrived early. I showed them the trees to trim and talked about what they were going to do. They selected the entrance they wanted to use and got to work! I worked from home and barely even noticed the crew. I could see through our window that the work was happening and checked on them throughout the day. I had a Yucca tree in the backyard and my husband and I decided to get rid of it. My husband was able to cut it down all the way to the stump, but it was pretty wide and hard to dig out. I looked on yelp for tree stump removers and decided to contact Cal Tree Care based on their reviews. I looked on their website and saw that they had a form you can fill out and they'd get back to you. I filled it out but didn't hear back after a couple of days, so I decided to just call them directly. They were quick to answer and were able to come to my house the following day. There were two individuals that came, but I only remember Randy's name because he texted me after I requested they call before coming (they gave me a 2 hour window 8am-10am). Randy came and looked at the stump I wanted removed and while he was here, he looked at all the other trees that my husband dug out and gave me an estimate for those as well. In the end, we only had the Yucca tree stump removed like we planned. The workers came the following day after meeting with Randy and the stump was gone in less than 20 minutes! Absolutely brilliant these guys!!!! I was really really impressed. I called these guys for a quote and they showed up within 30 minutes literally and this was the first time I was getting my tree trimmed so I had no idea how much it would cost. Then, I called their competitors on Yelp for quotes Castillo Tree Service and Vega's tree and they were both absolutely awful. I must have called at least 5 times and none of them bothered to return my calls at first. Finally they did return my call. Castillo Tree service made an appointment to come look at my tree and never showed up. Vega's tree service showed up and gave me a quote that was $400 more than Cal Tree Care. Subsequently, they told me they would call back and try to match any other quote but then stopped answering their calls. Just horrible dealing with these people. I was just trying to get an idea of how much it would cost. Then I asked some guy without a license and with not nearly as much experience as Cal Tree Care how much he would charge and his quote was only $50 less than these guys, so obviously it was a no-brainer. I was going to go with the Cal Tree Care professionals who could handle the job and had the right tools and believe me, I was not disappointed. Jorge, who came to do the job, was an absolute pleasure to deal with. He was super knowledgeable and gave me several gardening hints to grow better tomatoes and kale. I was delighted to hang out with him while he worked on my tree. I highly highly recommend these people. They will do an excellent job and they will charge very reasonable rates.
