I remember when JC Penney had candy and furniture and an auto center. That was quite a while ago. Along with Sears, it's changed little by little to dismiss many products, giving up almost everything but clothes. A few stores have included Sephora more recently, and considering how that brand is not widely available, it should bring younger female customers to the store. In fact, this store is in the process of a re-design to have a series of boutique-like departments. It will be like a mall-within-a-mall, potentially having what you want. Ron Johnson may have been on to something before he was dismissed. I'm not sure whether they'll make it on the inventory that was out on the sales floor. There didn't seem to be much, but it seemed organized and easy to see. I suspect it's going to matter about whether they can sell people on the brands they'll have...or somehow elevate the brands to have a better status. After all, who thought people would pay twice as much for wrinkled, dirty-looking Abercrombie & Fitch? The store will look good when finished, and since this particular location isn't in an indoor mall, it may prove really successful for one stop shopping.

This store seems to have reversed everything Ron Johnson wanted to go for prior to his dismissal.

JCPenney... where do I start? Ron Johnson tried to radically transform JCPenney from a run-of-the-mill department store to a boutique stores-within-store concept. Billions of dollars later, he was dismissed as the CEO (though with a hefty severance via a pre-negotiated golden parachute). Currently, only remnants of what Ron Johnson tried to do can still be seen. Sephora planted itself as a centerpiece of the store to attract younger shoppers. There seemed to be also a push for e-commerce. But unfortunately, it's needlessly confusing to pick up online orders. When we went in, we stood at a counter that says "online orders" directly underneath "cashier." But when we got to the counter (after waiting in line), we were told that we should instead walk all the way to the back to the service counter to pick up online orders. Of course, when you order something online, you don't get to try them on. So the logical thing to do is to locate the online order pick-up counter next to some fitting rooms. Unfortunately, once again that's not the case here. We picked up the order, then walked the entire length of the store to fitting rooms. Afterwards, we found out that the stuff we ordered online didn't have the proper fit as was described. So we walked the length of the store again to return it, only for no one to be there to help us. Anyway, it's apparent that JCPenney wanted to start something new. But too bad all that's left is a half-finished transition that is full of half-baked ideas and half-effort attempts at modernizing its retail operations.

    The worst manicure ever.

It is what it is…read more I'm not a big shopping guy and even less a TJ Maxx guy. But, from time-to-time, I am dragged in there. So, if you've ever been to a TJ Maxx, you'll understand where I'm coming from. They place is always a disaster with a moderate rhyme-or-reason to where things are. Sure, you can find the luggage section, or the shoe aisles, or clothes, etc. But, you might be at the shoe rack and come across a decent pair of dress shoes, right next to a pair of slippers, right next to those measuring cups for the kitchen that you suddenly had to have. Now, I'm not sure if that's how TJ Maxx gets you or if that's just lazy customers. Either way, it's genius. Anyone who says that more than 75% of the time the go into a TJ Maxx for something specific but ultimately walk out with 1 to 9 items that they didn't come in for would be lying. On top of that, they're walking out with those 1 to 9 other items and in many cases, not what they originally came in for. These are hard facts. It's a brilliant marketing scheme. Being completely bewildered in an aisle that seemed to make very little sense to me, I asked on of the workers who was stocking the shelves how she knew where to even put things. I had been browsing through this aisle for a few minutes and noticed her taking things off of her stock cart and putting them on shelves, in between other completely related items. She said that in some cases they have a general idea where things go and just find a space. That's a perfect way to describe many of the aisles of TJ Maxx. Again - this is either insane or genius. I'm guessing it's the latter. Would I go back? I don't know. Probably. I would never think of going there. I'll never say, "hey, I need to run to TJ Maxx". But thinking about it, I should. Because they honestly seem to have everything you could ever think of. This isn't a bad review. Like TJ Maxx, it's a very hard to define review. If you like browsing, look no further. You could spend hours here. Think of it as an indoor scavenger hunt. Pro Tip: If you're looking for something in particular and don't find it in the area you locate that has similar items....say shoes... keep looking in other aisles around that general area or quarter of that part of the store. You may still find what you're looking for among things that are completely unrelated. This too, is a fact. I have literally had this experience myself. Think of it as a real life Highlights magazine picture search. I can almost guarantee if you look closely between the items in the aisle that has hard candies, holiday gnomes, assorted Keurig K-cups and socks, there is a real good chance you'll find that meat thermometer between the toddler size tap shoes and gourmet peanut brittle.

I was blown away for starters by the customer service from multiple employees. One found me a shoe in a size that wasn't even on the floor, another brought a different size to the dressing room, and a third suggested a better way to complete my transaction! Now keep in mind the stuff here is brand name and higher end than, say, a Marshalls, but I still found a ton of good deals. I saw higher end brands like Tory Burch, Birkenstock, Democracy, and more. I got a $200 free people dress for $35! It's now definitely worth checking out and could be dangerous... I got so much stuff!

Staff was made to stand at the entrance to welcome the customers super sweet. So for people who have been to NR it's definitely a couple of notches above TJ Max but the model is similar. So there is section for male, female, kids clothing and shoes. They also have a home section along with jewelry, make up, perfume, sunglasses and handbags. Lots for everyone. This particular one has lots of parking and very centrally located. Prices are fair to the brands they offer. Oh I forgot they also have some snacks right near the check out. Enjoy shopping at this location.

Depending on what you get, it could be really cheap or just really expensive. But when the sales come, oh boy they are good deals like today 6/24 flip flops for only $1!!! They had solid colored shorts for $8, patterned shorts for $15, but I was really only eyeing on this $3 white halter shirt. Also, I got some really stylish orange brown pants to go with it. Not sure why my shopping habits are like this for this store..but they are. They often run really good sales and their clearance area has some really good deals too. Their regular priced merchandise can be a bit pricey for what you get. Overall the clothing here is pretty well put together and durable. I still wear sweaters I bought from Old Navy, no joke, 15 to 20 years ago. The stuff lasts for the most part..tho they're really kind of "in the moment" fashion-wise so a lot of their older stuff become outdated pretty quickly. This location has always been alright. They have kept it pretty clean and organized overall. The staff is usually nice and helpful..not always but usually. This past weekend was their annual $1 flip-flop sale and the place was kinda crazy. Things were still kept pretty organized overall tho, and the staff did a good job of keeping the line at the registers moving. I'd say if you're into Old Navy..this location is a decent enough one to patronize.
