As a teenage girl, it is very usual for me to feel uncomfortable in situations like piercings. I got my nose pierced at one of those shops in the mall and it quickly closed. I was scared to get it re-pierced. I wanted someone who had a high level of professionalism and loved their job. I found Liz. And God do I not regret it. When I went in I was welcomed with open arms. She was sweet and talked me through the whole process. Not one time did I feel uncomfortable in the shop! Liz truly helped me feel more comfortable in my skin. She treated me with the most respect you can give someone. I've had my piercing for about 3 months now, it never swelled or got infected. I had a earlobe piercing close up after having problems over a decade ago. So I looked long and hard to find a nice place to get it redone. I had it pierced in the early 80s at Spencer gifts in a mall by a teenager. I knew that actually body piercers were educated, and licensed and most importantly medically safe. I didn't want the same issues again. Blue Byrd was recommend a bunch. I walked in, without an appt. The girl put on gloves to feel my bad old piercing, identified the problem as scar tissue that had grown after irritation. She returned with a sterile sealed on use out, and laid it out. She sterilized my ear and then boom it was done. It was like getting it done in a doctor's office, with cooler art. The procedure was professional, clean, quick, and nearly painless. She advised me to wait 8 weeks instead of the usual 6 due to my previous issues. Gave me after care instructions and said to come back with any problems. I did the 8 weeks without a single issue and now I again can wear jewelry. Even the cheap stuff. I was worried I might have needed surgical steel but no, I'm officially an earring junkie again. I highly recommend. Don't be afraid it's a tattoo parlor. This is exactly the kind of places you want to go to, or take your kids to for a medically proper piercing. read more

I I tell you why I love this place I got my first piercing somewhere else when I was a kid you know simple regular just my ears think I was 12 years old and then I got regular ear piercings to the point. I ran six piercings of my left ear and two on my right, and then I started getting migraines and someone told me about going to a piercer and getting a special piercing. I got frightened I went to bluebird just because it was the only place I just saw it one day, I went in there with my mom didn't know what to ask for the girl I ran into. I wish I remembered her name knew exactly what to do next thing I know it was done didn't hurt a bit and it worked. I believed in it so much I took my sister who was having migraines, and I got my other ear done just to show her how it was piece of cake she got hers done. You have to go to this place. I had no idea at the time that they were ranked number one and I'm glad they are. They deserve it now where else can I get pierced? I have no clue my belly buttons done and I am pretty conservative so I'm pretty much done anything maybe my nose yeah that sounds good. Maybe I can find the same girl if not, I'm sure everybody in there is awesome. I'm on my way folks. Anyway you can't go wrong with this place, it's impossible. They are awesome show make a trip. This was my first piercing ever (got my lobes pierced) and I had an amazing experience. Everyone was very friendly and very knowledgeable. Any future piercings I get will definitely be from here and even thought I don't think I'd ever get a tattoo, if I did I'd come here for that too. I'd gladly recommend the place to anyone looking to get a piercing. Honestly, I'd give 5 stars but the only reason I have 4 is because of the cost. It was about $60 the get the lobe piercings and, at least from my friends' perspectives, that price is too much. My conclusion is that you're paying for the peace of mind (knowing you're getting good service) rather than paying for someone to put holes in your body (since you could just haphazardly give yourself the piercing and reap the consequences). If it was, say, like 15 bucks cheaper, I'd give 5 stars without question. read more

I have lots of ink, from lots of different artists, in lots of different cities and the most complimented and asked about ink on my body is the work done by David Klaiber over 10 yrs ago at Blue Byrd Tattoo (this of course was done at the Brown St. Location which I recently learned is no longer there since they've expanded..... ) He free handed large wings on my back, as well is tribal like design of initials that connects the wings together. The work is unique, extremely detailed and flawless. If you're looking for a playing in Dayton or Miamisburg to inked, you should even think twice before making this the obvious choice. If you're lucky enough to meet David you'll see by his personality and utmost professionalism as to why this place is above and beyond the rest. ** I currently live in Chicago but would even consider taking a road trip back to Blue Byrd just to get inked again at Blue Byrd. I have been going to Blue Byrd since I was 7 to get my ear lobes pierced. They are very professional, quick to help (which is rare to find at a tattoo and piercing shop) and everyone there is very talented. I have never been tattooed there however I am a regular when it comes to piercings. I recently went back to have some jewelry changed out because I was having issues and William was very educated about what might be giving me issues and was very thorough in his instructions for care. The guys there were awesome, my mom and I walked in without an appointment but they were super nice about it and could take us right away. I was in Dayton at the time and stopped Glen Scott first: guy there was really rude and said that I was not being realistic about getting a tattoo as it was Friday and it was 7 pm; basically treated me like I was a bother. I wanted an industrial piercing and just walked into the Wayne Avenue shop. Elizabeth greeted me kindly and had me fill out the paperwork while she got everything ready. She took me to a back room and carefully prepared everything and talked to me about the piercing and I learned I have a small ear. Of course, an industrial ear piercing hurts, but I had my nose pierced somewhere else and it honestly was more painful longer than the industrial was. I bled a lot unexpectedly, but Elizabeth took great care to clean my ear and skin up and waited to make sure I wasn't going to bleed too much and made sure I wasn't feeling faint. She was so kind, gentle and respectful and gave me great information. She told me she's normally in the Miamisburg shop but to come in if I have any concerns about my ear rejecting it or anything else. The shop doesn't give off a necessarily "sunshine and flowers" vibe but I was treated so well and looks are definitely deceiving. I'd send everyone I know to Elizabeth. Price wise, it was $75 for an industrial piercing; I found that extremely reasonable based on how professional and clean it was and how it took about 30 minutes for everything to be done. I don't usually write any reviews, and certainly not bad ones, but this is a different situation entirely. I would like to say that my experience with the punctuality of artists at the Middletown location was wonderful and they were flexible with timing. Now, that being said, my tattoo could have been done better by a one armed monkey. The design was INCREDIBLY simple, as I wouldn't have brought anything intricate to anyone I didn't already have work from. The tattoo cost around $200, so price wasn't bad at all considering the fact that it's about 3x5 or so. I initially thought thought when it was finished that it looked fine, mostly because I'm a bleeder and I couldn't tell. About a week later, I noticed lines off like mad and fading like hell when I took care of it as I usually did with positive results before. So, I had the same dude who did it the first time touch it up, a bit of a mulligan. BUT NOPE, it looked worse the second time and I cover the fucking thing up all the time now, I'm probably going to have another artist I trust just redo the whole thing. I was so hopeful about this location for a new approach and seeing David's work, such a disappointment. read more

I did not have a great experience here. The guy that "dealt" with my friend and I was very condescending. She and I have many tattoos that aren't visible and we don't dress like we have any at all but this guy tried to overcharge us for a tiny tattoo that would take 10 minutes and a minuscule amount of ink. He then decided to insult other shops saying that if they charged us less than we'd need to get it covered up. All of my tattoos are small and look great. Just because my friend and I don't look like you doesn't mean we don't deserve the same kind of service you'd give if we were covered in ink. It makes me sad because this is my neighborhood shop. I've been stretching my ears with a home taper kit, and has just gone up to 6g. The next day I wake up to my right lobe red, painful, and swollen twice as big as the right one. Fearing I really caused some permanent damage, I put in smaller plugs and went over to Blue Byrd after work. I walked in and was seen right away. William was very nice and knowledgeable and eased my mind that it was just a minor tear. Following his instructions, it healed very quickly. I wasn't going to write this review because of how badly I did not want to create a Yelp account, but thinking of this experience pissed me off all over again. My roommate and I came into Blue Byrd on February 27th or 28th in hopes to get a spontaneous piercing. While we were standing at the counter speaking to the piercer (who was incredibly friendly), a tattoo artist in the middle room repeatedly and unnecessarily jammed himself into our conversation. He made rude remarks and found a way to contradict everything that we could possibly say, whether an opinion was present or not. He was yelling from across the room (into a conversation he was not a part of) in the middle of giving a tattoo to a woman. I'm not sure if I feel worse for the woman receiving the tattoo by this douchebag (with the handle bar mustache and tattooed arms) or for the piercer who was clearly over compensating for the mans behavior. I went to Blue Byrd Tattoo on Wayne Ave. because of the the great reviews i read about that location. Walked in and told the guy at the front desk what i had in mind for my tattoo hoping someone could help me draw up my idea. He pointed me in the direction of an artist that was working on someone elses tattoo and the initial consultation was great. He said to expect to pay $200-$300 for the half sleeve. We set up another appointment to get the sketch started. I arrived 5 minutes early to the appt and there was no one there. Finally some people arrived and didnt ask me who i was waiting for, instead asked each other if i was waiting for the other. The artist for my appt finally showed up 45 minutes later after i waited for 30. He called my cell and appologized and said he would discount for my lost time. I show back up and he instanly made me feel like an idiot because of the t-shirt i had on. Going through the sketch ideas he went in a totally different idea than the one i had telling me his idea was much cuter than the idea i had. He made me feel stupid again when i told him my son doesnt have army men to play with and he continued to tell me all the toys his son has to play with. Finally he told me the initial idea for my "monster" tattoo he wouldnt be able to do because he mostly does scene artwork. after spending another 45 minutes sitting down with him while he conversed with the other artists in the shop he tells me the whole tattoo would cost me $1200.00. Said nothing about the discount he told me about over the phone and told me thats as cheap as he would do it for. i only wanted a half sleeve. I obviously didn't go back and don't think i ever will. COMPLETELY UNSATISFIED!!!! and honestly pretty pissed off for all my wasted time and gas and patience. read more
