I never like to downgrade a rating, but since my review, I tried to buy a barstool from JC Penney and...I call to see if it's there before I make the trip over and they say yes, but you can't buy the one we have on the floor. Me: Okay, can you order one so I can come in and buy it? JCP rep: You can order it, but you can't pick it up. You have to have it shipped (and pay shipping when I live close to the store). Me: Ok, so can I still use my $15 JC Penney bucks (to make up for this new shipping cost) that I earned from shopping last week. JCP rep: No, bucks can't be used on orders. Me: Ok, never mind then. Jeez, can you make it harder to buy your merchandise? It's on the floor, but not available in the store? Is the store just a brick and mortar catalog or a store? So I write an email to JCP to give feedback on how difficult they make it to buy a piece of furniture from the store, expecting maybe some explanation of why they must do it that way, but instead their response just repeats the way they do it with no explanation. Well, thanks, I just told you that, so clearly I know this is how you do it. I'm asking for the reason I can't order something to buy/pick up in your store. Anyway, thus the downgrade. I called 6 times, got hung up on twice tried different dept just to talk to someone and hopefully get transferred from there but no one ever picked up the phone in any dept. I like JcPenny, but ever since the company's new CEO took over and tried to change the way customers should shop, it has caused me to shop a lot less. But of course after the everyday prices and the slogan of the pricing be square (Ellen Degeneres did the commercials for this new campaign) was a no go with customers, eventually the CEO reverted to the original way JcPenny was... with different sales each week and coupons galore to fill your mail box, email and newspaper. But it still hasn't been the same for me after all of that has happened. But I do like the styles and general pricing (as long as I have a coupon though) that JcPenny has to offer. This location is pretty clean and has an easy to shop lay out. Customer service here is generally pretty friendly each time I have shopped here, even if I have to return an item. Overall, will keep shopping here on occasion (but again, only with the coupon and on sale items to maximize my limited budget). read more

This review is in regards to the portrait studio. I was able to make an online appointment for the Arcadia location studio, only to find out that the studio has been closed since April due to Covid 19. I'm glad I called before I left my house on the day of my appointment; based on the bad reviews I had a feeling something would go wrong. I asked JC Penney why people can book online if they are closed and they had no answer. This is a department store that should be able to update their website given that Covid has been around for 8 months now! I hate that I wasted my time making an appointment one month ago and reserving this time to get ready for pictures when the appointment never existed. Something so easy like updating a website is not too much to ask for especially for a large department store. read more

Actually, taking pictures with my phone probably would have made our photos look better. Horrible. My family went for photos to celebrate my grandpa's 90th birthday. This was a big deal and we wanted to make sure we captured our entire family. BIGGEST. MISTAKE. EVER. The lady that took our pictures clearly didn't know anything about pictures. We had a lot of people, so I get that it may have been difficult to fit everyone in. But she insisted on positioning us in such weird positions. Some of our pictures had one person standing directly behind another, simply because one was shorter and the other was taller. It just turned out looking like a head coming out above the other person. The way she had us staggered made me perpendicular to her taking the photos. Some of the women in my family had heels on, and asked if taking them off would make it easier, the lady said yes, but it didn't matter where we put the shoes because they wouldn't show up in any pictures. Once we got the pictures, guess what was showing...feet. BARE FEET. the heels were placed underneath, supposedly hidden from the camera, but the photographer took photos of our entire bodies. My grandparents were supposed to be the center of attention. They weren't even centered in the picture. How do you mess that up? They had one chair with a backing, and a stool. My grandma was posing closer to my grandpa, so you could see the backing of the chair, but the photographer didn't say anything, nor did she try to adjust in any way. So now there's just the backing of a chair in the photo of my grandparents that aren't centered. TLDR: DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY GOING HERE. IT'S NOT WORTH ANY OF IT. UNTIL THEY GET REAL PHOTOGRAPHERS, OR AT LEAST SOMEONE WITH BASIC KNOWLEDGE, I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND FRIENDS OR FAMILY, OR EVEN MY MOST HATED ENEMY TO GO HERE. SEE YOU NEVER. read more

Love love the staff here, super friendly , very accommodating and patient, and fast with those quick edits after the shoot! My wife and I had a great time. Shout-out to KATE for a wonderful photoshoot experience. She was so sweet and enthusiastic and we just loved her. And the shots came out AMAZING. Wow. We love these photos. My review is solely for the SEPHORA inside this JCP. I always come to this Sephora over the free-standing one just because the employees here are so much more approachable. Today, I came in looking for an "everyday friendly" palette and I approached an associate and she was so helpful! She convinced me to buy the Too Faced Sweet Peach which is always sold out and it is AMAZING. She was so kind and she told me about her personal experiences between both the Tartelette 2 and Sweet Peach and she was just so genuine. It was really refreshing. THANK YOU STEFANIE!!! I have only every left this Sephora once due to a bad experience with an associate, but overall everyone here is so great! They're knowledgable, genuine, and they aren't pushy at all when it comes to their product. If you want a good experience and some great advice I urge you to come to this Sephora over the free-standing one. I have received numerous recommendations about different products from skin care to brushes and makeup and I have NEVER been disappointed and I think that says a lot. read more

So, it's almost Christmas time -- time to give portraits to the grandparents of their grand-babies (though three of the said babies are now elementary school kids). We thought it would be fun to take pictures with my sister-in-law's kids, too, so one toddler and three school-aged kids and three adults trekked over to the mall. And, man...did the memo not get to the folks around the Westfield Santa Anita mall that there is an imminent recession? This place was CROWDED -- with a concentration at the JC Penny Portrait Studio. Now, it's not easy to keep four kids interested and non-melt-down-y when they're dressed in sweaters and it's 90 degrees outside and toasty in temperature inside (I'm sure they had AC at the Portrait Studio, but it wasn't a match for the concentration of melted-down screamers within). Snap, snap, snap. The three oldest kids were troopers, but we were doubtful that there were any usable pics of the littlest guy -- he was NOT in the mood to sit and pose. Unlike some Portrait places, they had two workers in the studio with us; one to direct and one to snap the pics. Great idea when taking pics with kids, I think. At any rate, we hoped they were able to get just ONE pic to use for Grandma's gifts. With some doubts and with instructions to return in 20 minutes to see the finished pics, we retreated to the play area right outside of JCP. My sister-in-law and I abandoned four kids with my husband (yeah, he got the short straw for sure). We had to wait for 10 minutes before we could get a terminal to view our pictures. And amazing! They were able to get some great shots with how little they had to work with! The person helping us with the order was amazing. She zoomed in on some and helped us create one of those photo creations with six pictures. She also whipped out a 50% off coupon, which is so brilliant, as it caused us to order way more than we normally would have! We were pleased. And, more importantly, Grandma will be pleased. read more

Customer Service is so nice at the store and on the phone. I walked through this place and they actually had some good sales especially after Christmas. All their Christmas stuff was on sale. JC Penny is typically expensive if not on sale but when you have a sale and discounts, then it's all good. I just liked the customer service. I called into to see if they had a aviator jacket I saw online and the guy was helpful with me on finding it or finding something like it. Really, really outdated merchandise and horrible customer service. If you text them, you can receive a mobile coupon for $10 off any $30 purchase. My mom needed a new pillow that was $40 marked down to $15. We looked in every department and couldn't find a single thing that we wanted! Not even as a Christmas gift! Their kitchen section had everything but mixing bowls, which was the only item we really needed. Wound up buying a bunch of Dylan's Candy Bar candy to meet the minimum purchase requirement. So we get to the register and the cashier was pretty friendly. Until I showed my mobile coupon. They made a mistake on the wording, so despite the fact that it was sent on 11/15, it said "good through 10/31". The cashier had an attitude and said she'd try to apply the coupon if it would make me happy, but she couldn't do anything if the register didn't accept it. Of course, it worked and she seemed pissed off. And then as we were leaving, she looked at us and said "Where did you get that pillow? Did I charge you for it?" Of course she did! How could she miss the gigantic pillow, and why would chocolate bars cost $30? So I read the item name back to her but she demanded to see my receipt. Also, their plus size section is hilarious. Boxy, clingy shirts with hideous designs. And gathering/pleating where you don't want it. Yikes. We got a good laugh at some of the designs. read more

This is a very complicated subject and so I'll begin at the end: if you're a woman -- you're an idiot not to shop at the new JCPenney now and again. For that statement to make a stitch of sense, some history. JCPenney used to be a dull clothing palace. A museum to what once was and often never should have been. Anyone who tells you otherwise has zero taste. A few years ago an Apple Retail guy came in and alienated the entire customer base. He did so by appointing a screaming liberal lesbian as the 'face' of the First Church of JCPenney. These actions plainly stated that the 'old' clothing was horrific and that customers deserved better. That Apple CEO then made customers old and new wait almost a year to see any of this new clothing. That's way too long. During that time he revamped the brown cluttered carpeted stores and brought in tons of brighter better fashion conscious clothing and displays. But the sad disillusioned alienated customers saw these new trappings -- and were utterly confused by the new direction. The problem was this CEO drastically underestimated how worthless the JCP brand was. And still is. Not as bad as Sears, but that's no compliment. This CEO was unable to get the people who needed to know about the new JCPenney into the stores. Had his marketing people succeeded, JCPenney would have robbed Macys of many customers. They would have loved half of what they saw and their jaws would have dropped open at the unbelievably reasonable prices. The problem -- again -- was that even if you got them into the store buying, they would NOT tell their friends. Why? Embarrassment. A brand associated with poor styling and cheap prices? Mum's the word. But here is what I have to again share with you: if you're a woman -- you're an idiot not to shop at the new JCP now and again. Not exclusively, mind you. But if you're avoiding it because of the brand you're screwing yourself over. Unless you're rich. Are you? I doubt it. The rich wouldn't have read this deep into a review. I used to shop at Anthro and Macys. Not often. Why? I'm not rich. I'd always have to shop the clearance areas. Settle for colors and styles that were rejected by the rich customers. My closet was a mess of mis-matched misfitting 'couture' -- lol. Since I'm an Apple fan I gave that CEO a try. There are two departments I now live in: JOE FRESH and JCP. Once I attached myself to the JCP coupon world -- WOW -- I've never bought so much clothing in my life. With frequent $10 off $25 coupons, my typical top or pair of shorts is around $12. And this isn't from the clearance area. This is from brand new stuff -- and I have the pick of every color and style. Typically I've purchased my season's clothing before the season has started. There are two additional departments which tempt me as well: iJeans Buffalo and A.N.A. Yes, if you want a great jacket, or bag, or shoes -- you'll likely need to go elsewhere. But I now buy clothing the way you buy produce. And I feel so sorry for the people who won't step foot inside JCP but live inside Ross, Marshalls, and TJMaxx. People who think Target clothes aren't bad (lol) but that JCPenney is worse (lol). One word: suckers. Ross/Marshalls/TJMaxx customers have no idea those drab and dull stores sell mostly product created for the store... not actual designers discounted. JCPenney mostly creates it's own clothing too, but they're upfront about it and don't make you stand in some ugly warehouse. And give you WAY more choice. The reason why this isn't five stars is that the mens and kids clothing is drifting back towards the drab and dull. That new CEO was canned and the old one brought back in. The old customers are cheering his return as a victory over the likes of Ellen Degeneres... instead of remembering what boring clothes the old CEO couldn't hand away and why he was replaced in the first place. These customers cheered the return of their beloved St. John's Bay brand, but if you stand in JCP as often as I do -- you'll see that department is a ghost town. By the by: fellow reviewers who complain that the service in these stores aren't living in reality. Does Macys have better service? Probably. Know why? You're paying for it. A typical item in those stores are two to three times more than JCP. So if you have to wait on the phone longer, have trouble finding an associate, or you find some shirts not so folded... go to another store and pay three times the money. I won't. I've never really enjoyed JC Penney's, but this location is very nice. They keep things incredibly organized and clean. The prices are all very reasonable and I have found something to buy on each of my last two visits here. While we were purchasing something from men's section, I guess they don't have registers anymore and the sales associates just carry a handheld scanner and are able to process the entire payment process from this device. They even emailed our receipt. Not sure I'm entirely on board with this process, seems a little informal, but I do appreciate them trying to be more forward-thinking and trying new things. I'm a chick. I like shopping. Unfortunately, I'm also very picky. I haven't been able to find a pair of jeans I like for almost a year. Yes people, I went jeans-less for a year! As I confided to my best friend about my requirements (no stupid stitching, no stupid colors and of course, the fit that makes my ass look awesome), she said I should just go to a basic store like JC Penny's and buy Levi's. Okay, that's exactly what I did. But faced with so many different types, I was in the dressing room for a long and depressing time. Lighting could be way better. It also smelled dusty and old. But man, the other shoppers! I overheard this one woman asking her kid to get her the XL of the shirt she was trying on. Her kid said, "but mom, you're not an extra large." Her mom replied, "well, I know I used to be a medium but ever since the YELLOW GIRLS came, they changed the sizes." WTF? Yellow girls? I wanted to kick down the dressing room door to yell at her. But I couldn't tell exactly what dressing room she was in. I guess it's a good thing the doors were ceiling to floor unlike those embarrassing dressing rooms that show the top of your head, peeks of your body through the slats and your hole-y socks (not me, of course, I wore flip flops). Anyway, as I struggled out of the "oh, why did I attempt to try on these juniors' jeans," and into "hmm, the skinny jean look is so not good on me," to my eventually purchased "dark denim, straight leg Levi's," I suffered through this woman's mindless chattering, her kid screaming and crying and the grandma was in there giving commentary. I hope these jeans last a long time because I never want to go back there again! read more

I like this store. I've had a significant weight loss, and still losing, so I need clothes that fit, but also don't cost too much, because I'll go down about two more sizes before I hit goal weight. The prices aren't horrible, timing is everything, but that's the case for shopping, in general, especially when you want or need a good deal. I'm generally self-sufficient when I shop, and I like to get in, and get out, fairly quickly from a store. They keep things fairly in order, and I've always found things in stock when I've gone there. The biggest issue for me is the lack of customer service, and an understaffing problem that seems to be chronic. Whenever I've gone there, I spend more time waiting in the line to pay for my purchases than the time I spent actually shopping and trying on clothes, etc. The last time I went there wasn't ANYONE at the cash register for ten minutes, and there were ten people in line. I get that it was a Monday, but that's an unreasonable amount of time to be completely devoid of staff. Hire more people, or make sure that employees are keeping to their schedules. I prefer trying on clothes in-store, rather than shopping online for clothes, so if this keeps up, I'll go to a store that maintains customer service, even if it means tightening my belt in other ways. read more

SEPHORA INSIDE JCPENNEY: went into the store this past weekend and had the worst experience i've had for a business that is so well-known! there were 3 women working, and they were much more interested in braiding each other's hair (literally!) than providing any sort of customer service. i initially came in to ask about a promo email i recieved and to browse around. when i gave up looking (because no one bothered to ask if i needed help), i had to say "excuse me" 3 times before a saleswoman turned around. after saying the product was out of stock, none of them even bothered to present a substitute product. i know sephora stores are usually crazy busy on the weekends BUT there were less than 5 customers (me included) when i was there! so disappointed in the service that i lost interest in buying anything :( read more

I went to this JC PENNY on black Friday morning and saw some deals in the mens suit area. I am fairly new to suits because the last time I owned a suit I was in my teens and weighed 40 lbs more. I tried a couple jackets and thought it fit OK so I purchased it and went home. The next day I realized the jacket was a bit big and decided to return it for a different size. On top of that, they forgot to remove the ink tag. I went back and went to the (Jim) guy at the suits department to get it exchanged. Jim was appalled that I got a size he knew did not fit me and apologized for the other guy that sold me the suit. "I would never sell you a 44 Long!" He jumped straight into action and helped me find the best fitting suit jacket. I was extremely satified with Jim's help and expertise. I recommend finding Jim for help. Simply the WORST customer service ever! I made the absolute mistake of making a purchase online from the Arcadia JC Penney's. I wasn't able to pick up the item, so the order was cancelled. A week later, I called the customer service line, and was informed that a refund was coming within 10 days. After two weeks, I once again called, and was informed that the check was in the mail. Guess what? 51 days later still no refund! I once again called the customer service line, and after speaking to an agent off and on for 15 minutes, was informed that I needed to go to the store to get a refund. Now I remember why I almost NEVER shop at Penney's! End of saga -- After 66 days, a full refund came... it took a third party arbitrator to review the facts, and rule totally in my favor. I hope you never have the same experience. read more

Two people helped us, a gentleman at the front, and our photographer Dominique. They were both friendly, polite, and courteous. Dominique was wonderful. Our pics came out great! The price would have been $184 without the voucher, but with the voucher it was awesome only $50 (plus the voucher was $20) We will definitely return. read more

Emily was our photographer. She was amazing. She was very patient with us and trying to take the best pictures possible. I asked what the price was on an item and she rattled it off right away. I asked if that was with the discount and she said yes. I told her I would take it. HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! If I could leave 0 stars I would!!? I purchased diamond earrings on 4/28/21. I wanted the posts changed to screw backs and told fine jewelry mgr. Stepheny that I needed them before 5/29 as they were a gift for my mom's 75th bday on the 29th. She said she would put a rush order on them and assured me that I'd have them by the 26th(it was stated on receipt). I called on the morning of the 29th and was told they hadn't rec'd earrings back. I went to my mom's bday party with no gift for her. My husband called the following Monday and was given the run around, we've been calling regularly and still no answer on where and when earrings will be ready. Keep in mind that I've already made cc pmt. on these earrings that I don't even have!!! Today was the last straw!!! I've been trying to reach someone at the store since 1pm until I started writing this review. Took me 7 calls to get store operator to answer, transferred to jewlery dept. only for them to pick up phone and directly hung up. Called the jewlery dept directly 5 more times, still no pick up, call store operator and ask for store manager, get voicemail and I leave message for Jason, still no return call. Call store a few more times finally get through, I'm transfered to human resources mgr.,get voicemail, no return call. I call corporate office in Plano Tx., they try to call store and no one picks up. Corporate takes my info. You get what you pay for!! [This review relates to JCPenney Valencia in particular, but the company as a whole.] Can someone please explain to me how in this time of recession (8.3% of the labor force is unemployed), JCPenney can advertise on their website that they are hiring at various locations, then force would-be applicants to take a 80-ish question "assessment" test with irrelevant questions, and at the end of the 20 minutes or so it took for you to take the test, the website tells you "that due to your answers, you are not qualified for this job." Oh, I'm sorry, I thought my SEVEN years experience in the retail industry as both a cashier and an assistant manager is what qualified me to be a "sales associate" (i.e, CASHIER) at a department store. Assessment tests are not exactly the hardest thing to answer, however, how are questions such as "I prefer small parties to large crowds" and "I would feel guilty if I cheated on my spouse" AT ALL relevant to ringing cash? Very original, JCPenney. I rang cash, managed a store and cash flow for seven years elsewhere, pretty sure I could do it anywhere, including JCPenney, regardless if I prefer "crowds" and am comfortable with being "both a leader and a follower." No wonder people cannot find work with these ridiculous, time-wasting, and pointless assessment tests. read more

Portrait studio only! My mom used to take my sister and me here for studio photos all the time when we were kids. We stopped coming because they stopped sending out coupons, but this weekend was the first time I came back in nearly 20 years. I was very impressed with the service I received here. I recently graduated, so I decided to purchase a $26 Groupon package and came to this location. Michael was my photographer, and Kim was observing since she hadn't done a graduation shoot before. Both of them were extremely friendly and were patient with me when I wanted to retake a few of the same photos. My family was not satisfied with the photos I chose, so I came in the following day to exchange my photos. JcPenney gave me the wrong ones for free! My photos came out beautifully thanks to Michael! I've had pretty good experiences at this JC Penney. I buy living room and bedroom furnishings here and the staff are pretty courteous and helpful. This JC Penney gets better reviews that the fucking Macy's at the other end of the mall !!! Macy's needs to 'wake up' and get their fucking act together ! read more

Review for IN-STORE pickup (for online purchases). JCPenny's has free in-store pickup for online purchases. I thought this would be a great way to save the $8.95 shipping fee, since I new I had another trip to the mall to make, and I thought I could quickly pickup my item without a hassle. BOY was I wrong. Now - it wouldn't be impossible to do a quick pickup - IF (and this is a big IF) - no one else is at the store. JCPenny has no regard for their online shoppers and does nothing to help expedite the pickup. As a result, I will not be using this option in the future. The instore pickup is located in their HOME department on the first floor. There is no signage that designates the register as being the one for in-store pickups. Nor is there even signage that it is the "Home" department register. You are just supposed to know. Thankfully, I wandered into the offices (thinking there's be a customer service desk to handle online pickups) however they pointed me in the right direction. Once you find this elusive checkout, you are at the mercy of anyone else that's in line. WHY you ask? It's not a dedicated in-store/customer service type pickup. You can make any purchases there - and, experienced JCPenny customers come down here with their clothing purchases, since the registers located in those departments have lines a mile long. What that means is you are waiting while the very hard-working employees are assisting other customers with their purchases and returns. I visited mid-day during the week, was 2nd in line, with two registers open - and it took me almost 20 minutes to reach the register. Once at the register, I was helped quickly, however, it was such an inconvenience to wait so long (while shoppers checked on item availability, and another returned (no joke) over 30 items on multiple receipts). I can't even imagine what it's like during a peak time! While waiting, another employee helped someone find the line and said "yeah, that line is for everything!" (as if to acknowledge it's inefficiency). JCPenny needs to rethink how they do in-store, online pickups. Have dedicated registers or an express line for this purpose. The current method is unacceptable! read more

JCPenney in financial trouble!!! No Way!!! Haha!! So I find the Nike shoes I want for my son. They lured me in with their super small print exclusion coupon. It doesn't apply to Nike and doesn't apply to athletic shoes. They don't price match Amazon even when shipped and sold by Amazon. So after getting me into the store, all that happened was I ordered the shoes I wanted from Amazon while standing in their store. It's amazing they don't realize why they are in financial trouble. Thank goodness the Ceo will have his multi million dollar golden parachute when they go BK and close all these outdated unhelpful old school business models. read more

***************PORTRAIT STUDIO ********************* I want to say THANK YOU to the ladies working at the portrait studio. We had an appointment this afternoon at 1:20, we arrived 10 minutes early and we were greeted with a warm welcome. The girls were very attentive to our 8 week old niece. They were professional and really sweet. They went above and beyond our expectations. Can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our experience at the studio. I am so glad Picture People downstairs cancelled our appointment, they lost our business but JCPENNEY gained a new customer. Thanks again to Kate S.
