Utage and Sugoi were closed for lunch yesterday, Sunday. Let's try here. Hubs said you're going to eat sushi? I'm sure there are cooked items, so we stepped in. If you dine in they automatically tack on 15%. You can counter that in the month of July 2025 if you have an ASB credit and debit card. A very soft spoken employee took our order. I enjoyed my beef udon a lot. Hubs said his spicy ahi bowl was okay. The bowls looked small but were just right for lunch. My matcha red bean drink was a bit sweet so when I reached home I kept adding a can of Chi Sparkling Water grape and it was just right. We bought 3 bags of their tea cookies. I could taste a faint shortbread flavor. Honestly I prefer WU Betty's cookies more. One bag was to try and two are going to Kauai. Very small, unassuming eatery. There was a little wait for the food to arrive. I saw the other table, two guys had ordered a sushi meal and it looked well plated.
Pretty good fish for a reasonable price. Anything salmon is your best bet for fresh tasting fish. The spicy Ahi was cubed and a little bit chewy. The bento was $13 with previously frozen fish. I don't agree with the 15% service charge for dine-in customers. At the register, I could not see the 15% service charge on my bill so I almost gave tip which would have been a double tip. No one is walking around and refilling water. There is a trash can for you to throw away your own rubbish so what service am I paying for? I would scrap the 15% service charge and tip 10% on my own if I could.
What a sleeper foodie find - sushi, boba tea, and creative pastries all in one place. I stumbled across this place by accident, starving and looking for a quick lunch. I meant to get just a bento, but after looking at their display case I had to sample their desserts. The dining area was laid out well, and could accommodate a small Yelp gathering. The folks who help me were very nice, and I really enjoyed the experience. Highly recommend if you're in the shopping center.
I'm surprised I haven't left a review on this place yet! As far as "fast and inexpensive" sushi places go, this spot is a convenient favorite! You can dine in if you want, there's plenty of clean tables to relax and enjoy sushi as soon as it's ready. Or they are fast if you want it to go (and it's made fresh to order). I love how they include a generous portion of fresh wasabi, not the inferior wasabi packages that other spots tend to offer. And they give a portion of ginger that's really tasty and fresh tasting (for pickled ginger that is). Most other fast sushi places do not go to this length. The ingredients in the sushi have good rice proportions, and the fish tastes fresh and delicious every time. I especially love their seared garlic salmon! Their specialty rolls are quite large too. I've ordered sushi platters before and it doesn't break the bank which I appreciate. If you want dessert, they've got that too! They have baked goodies like cakes (whole if you need one for a special occasion or by the slice), macarons, cake pops etc. They also offer a wide selection of homemade cookies with unique Hawai'i flavors in packages that make great take home additions or gifts. They don't serve alcohol, but they have a selection of inexpensive drinks and even boba teas. Service is always fast and friendly. There's plenty of parking, you can pick up other things in the same shopping center like fresh fruits/ veggies and other things if you're buying food for a large family and someone wants something other than sushi.
This quaint little spot is convenient, affordable and yummy. Staff is very friendly and attentive to customers that are dining in while tending to the customers coming in for takeout orders. We were pleasantly surprised at the variety of bentos and the delicious drink options. They also have alot of packaged snacks for sale like cookies and chicharron - which we regret not picking up. We will definitely be coming back to try other items on their menu.
The fresh salmon slices have clear textures and shine with an orange-red luster under the light, just like a petal in the sunset. When the sushi is placed on the table, it looks like a delicate piece of art, quietly lying in the plate, waiting to be tasted.
Lots of parking available in this shopping center that shares many other ono places to grind. Upon entry, very clean place. a lady behind the counter asked how many and sat us. Took our drink orders. next we placed our food orders. we ordered 4 sets. my faves out of all of this was the salmon and the spicy ahi Inari. salmon was buttery and ono. the Inari was sweet, balance with the spicy ahi mayo. the price is cheap, quality is good.
I love that we can get sushi close to home now. It's located on dillingham right next to thangs smoothies, they are right on the corner so it's easy to spot. They have sooo much varieties of sushi to choose from and it ranges from $11-$30. I must say though that the rice is a little on the hard side. I would rather have it like sushi rice but it doesn't taste like it is. My favorite sushi to get is their ahi/ garlic salmon. So so good. The service is really good. They are super nice once you enter and are very patient with you. You may do dine in. They have a lot of seats for you to choose to stay and eat. They also have ac so that's a plus! Haha free parking right outside so don't need to worry.
2nd time here. At first this place looks good but its execution is a dud. It has potential to be way better. Ordered their best combo sushi set #33: Spicy Tuna Bomb, Unagi, Ikura, Salmon, Ahi, Ika, Ebi & Hamachi. The Ikura (Salmon eggs) were old and all shriveled up. The saddest Ikura I've seen in my lifetime and not fit to be served to customers. The nori on the Ikura sushi was rubbery and hard to bite through. The other sushi were ok but none of them notable. Their service sucks big time. On both occasions, had to wait a long time for someone to come out to the front counter to take my order. I could clearly hear 3 or 4 of them chatting in the back. Once one of them came out, they weren't very helpful in making suggestions from their huge menu of sushi and a variety of non-sushi goods like bakery goods like cake & cookies. The counter person just pointed at the menu, mumbled a few things and walked away for a long time before returning to take my order. The saving grace was the interior vibe looks inviting and there was ample seating. However, the ambiance was ruined when I saw a large cockroach crawl across the floor while I was waiting for my takeout order. If they stop using old food, did some pest management & stepped up their customer service, the potential for substantial improvement could be realized. I wanted to like this place but it's a no go for me.
I'll start by saying that I absolutely love the food here. Five stars for that. I mean, have you tried their grilled garlic salmon? It's so good it could probably convince a lifelong vegetarian to reconsider their life choices. Seriously, it's delicious! Their rolls are good too. However, what I'm not as enthusiastic about is the time it takes to get your food. We waited a good half an hour today for our meal, and it was a to-go order with nobody else in the place. Déjà vu hit me hard because the same thing happened when I was here in April. Honestly, I have more success ordering from them through Uber Eats, which seems ironic, doesn't it? That being said, if you have the time to spare, it's definitely worth the visit. The customer service has always been friendly, which makes the wait a bit more bearable. On a sweeter note, they also have some amazing desserts. My new favorite? The Ube brownie. If you haven't tried it, you're missing out--it's a purple slice of heaven!

Only when it was time to pay did someone point to a small sign on the side , If an automatic service charge is required, they should put a large, visible notice at the front entrance and make sure customers are informed upfront . This is kinda weird.. no wonder why no customer inside but us food ok but ... never come back.
Stumbled across this cute little cafe when we were looking for Boba Milk Tea. After a delicious lunch with my friends and we wanted something sweet, dessert. Located in the Kapalama Shopping Center, parking right out front. The place is clean and it was empty when we went there around 3 pm. We all ordered Boba Milk Tea and they had a bakery case with all these pretty desserts in it. We each ordered a different dessert so we could try each one. We ordered the Red Velvet Cake, Mango Mousse Cake and the Japanese Cheesecake. All are Japanese style desserts, which I enjoy as they are light and not real sweet. All were delicious!
I come here all the time for the Spicy Ahi, but my new fave is the garlic salmon that's seared :) Def a must try!
I can't help but love this place! The sushi is fresh. The rice is on point. The service is fast and the price is affordable. It's clean and quiet inside. Couple of tables. Lots of other stuff too. Baked goods and craft drinks. If you're in the area, give them a try! read more

Ordered their #31 bento and it was very delicious and satisfying. Considering the price of fish nowadays, the price of this bento was reasonable. The ladies at the counter were very friendly and patient with me as this was my first time trying out this place. Will definitely come back next time I'm around this area. read more

Parking is easy. To find this place is easy. The atmosphere is great. Fishes and Knick knacks For the kids when u first walk in. The menu isn't as abundant as I would like but they have the necessary things. Good amount to choose from I guess. The prices are good for sushi in Hawaii. The taste is ono.. easy 5 stars. Good customer service. Food comes out fast. Do the price and quality I would highly recommend. read more
Whenever I'm in Dillingham this would be my go-to lunch spot! Hands down the best "fast food/convenient" sushi spots. Finally took my husband here for lunch so he could try and he's a very PICKY eater when it comes to sushi and prefers higher end sushi spots. But HE loved this place! From the quality of the food, the customer service, the ambiance and decor, it's truly amazing! A nice spot to have a cute lunch date. It was my first time dining in and they serve the food on plates instead of take out containers for that extra dine in experience. I also tried their black tea drinks and it was delish! My go to order is: Garlic salmon (5/5): the sear of the salmon with the garlic mayo and unagi sauce is just top tier! I don't know any place that sells this & it's seriously my favorite!! Spicy ahi inari (5/5): ahi is fresh with a little hint of spice! Mango black tea with lychee jelly (5/5): perfect balance of sweetness. It pairs nicely with the jelly. Strawberry shortcake (5/5): IF YOU HAVENT TRIED ASIAN STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE, you're missing out. I don't live nearby but i would make the drive to eat here! Craving the garlic salmon as im posting this. Highly highly recommend! It won't disappoint! read more
I recently visited Jay's Sushi, conveniently located next to Thang's to celebrate National Sushi Day. Having been a fan of their sushi years ago when they were on Liliha and I was eager to see if the quality remained the same. I ordered my favorite the garlic ahi and salmon set, and I'm pleased to report that it was just as good as I remembered. The mayo garlic sauce is incredibly flavorful and the sear on top adds a wonderful depth to the taste. It's a delightful combination that really stands out. I also tried the tamago nigiri which were decent. They weren't the highlight of my visit but they were enjoyable nonetheless. There was a bit of a wait to get my order so I would phone order beforehand. Inside is clean and had good amount of seating for dining in. Jay's Sushi remains a great spot for sushi lovers. The quality remained high and the garlic ahi and salmon set is a must try. read more

Ordered from here on my lunch break from Uber eats. Never heard of this place but I was happy to find it while searching for sushi in the kalihi area. It was a nice size and I love shrimp tempura and salmon so i figured it'd be the best of both worlds. The miso soup was so tasty and they offered a buy one get one free so me and my coworker both got one. The sushi was tasty, the salmon had a very subtle taste because of the sauce, I wish I could've tasted the salmon a bit more but all in all I thought it was delish! I was really tempted to try the unagi bowl since I love unagi sushi, the pics looked good but I was worried I wouldn't like it and I was starving--I will def be trying that next time! read more

The sushi is so delicious and so fresh! Their spicy ahi salad wasn't really good though I wish I took a picture of it but I've had better elsewhere. But overall the garlic hamachi, spicy ahi & garlic salmon was very good! I would definitely come back for more sushi. The black sugar boba was ok and the coffee was strong but taste was ok. I love that the fish used is fresh! And the inside is really clean and very nice. Lots of seats. The customer service is friendly and the service is decent. Jay Sushi is located in the City Square Shopping Center on Kalihi. Parking is sometimes hard to get, but be patient, and it's worth the wait. I recommend parking on the street next to the canal. They offer many sushi and platter options. I had the spicy tuna and garlic salmon bento. It had 5 pieces of each, so enough to keep you full till your next meal. We also had miso soup and the karrage chicken. Both were tasty. Give them a try when you're in the Kalihi area. Let know what you think. Aloooooooooha read more

It's an intimate space. It's a good place to go on a date or if you have a small group. I ordered my food to go because I was on my lunch break, but I would definitely dine-in in the future. Service was good. I ordered the #14, garlic salmon and ahi with a side of spicy ahi nigiri. Everything was really good. The fish is was very fresh and tasty! They also have desserts available, but I didn't get to try it this time around. read more

I recently heard about this new sushi spot in Kalihi. It is located on the first floor in the strip mall with Sugoi's, Young's Fish Market, Thai Village, and Thangs. I finally had the chance to try it today. We walked in and was greeted by the employee behind the counter. They have regular tables and high bar-like tables available as well for inside dining. There are many choices to choose from. The menu includes sushi sets, sushi rolls, baked items, bowls, udon, bentos, California sets, party platters, assorted nigiri & maki sushi. We ordered: 1. Beef Bowl - I took the first bite, was very impressed and loved it. The beef was thinly sliced and mixed with sliced onion. It was full of an amazing flavor unlike others I have tried. A definitely MUST TRY! 2. Garlic Salmon & Hamachi Set - These were the second and third items I tried and I was not disappointed one bit. Both the salmon & hamachi were very delicious. The garlic mayo sauce was just enough and seared well. (Also a MUST TRY) 3. Garlic Salmon & Spicy Ahi Set - The spicy ahi was good as well. Not too spicy but just enough. 4. Salmon Bone - Delicious salmon with just enough salt and pepper for taste. The cost was also only $8.95 for about 8-9 pieces. Everything we ordered was really really good. I will definitely return to try other items on the menu and to order the beef bowl and garlic salmon. You should definitely it here if you're craving sushi or in the area. read more
I've been here twice and loved the food both times. Made with fresh fish, can't to wrong with the pricing. This time around, I ordered one of their specials which was the garlic salmon and Hamachi. 8 pieces for $11.99! Yes, can't go wrong. It's also made to order so be patient. I devoured my food in less than 10 minutes. LoL! The fish is also torched with mayo and topped with unagi sauce. They don't over torch it to where the fish gets cooked. My Husband ordered the teriyaki chicken bowl which came on a bed of rice and side of ocean salad and takuan (pickled radish). The chicken was nice, tender, hot, and flavorful! Definitely recommend to try this place out when in the area. read more

Okay... secret alright? Don't tell anyone. I'm only telling you because we're Yelp friends. This is by far my favorite place to order sushi. For those "treat yourself" days for sushi. Jay's Sushi never ever disappoints me! Sushi tastes yummy and the portions are beautiful. It's located near the old DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles), in the City Square Shopping Center. Where Chuck E. Cheese, Kalihi Pet Center, and 7/11 are, but more down towards Kalani St. and Kohou St. side of the Center. I've been ordering from them through UberEats forever. (Sometimes they have specials after a certain purchase price minimum) And my orders always arrive quickly, exact and perfect! They are packaged safely to withstand transport. Drinks in a small bag with handles. Containers stacked and tied in a bag. [I've accidentally posted photos of my previous sushi orders into the 'Jay's Cafe' Yelp page by mistake, but check those out to see the quality of the sushi.] I recently ventured into the shop. They have different combos that mix and match different types of nigiri sushi sets, sushi rolls, bentos, salads, donburi/ rice bowls, udon noodles, side sushi, oven baked items, party platters (order in advance) and more. i They also offer BOBO DRINKS! Like whaaaaat?!?! *mindblown* Fruit teas in green or black tea [mixed fruit, passion orange, lychee, lime, mango, peach, pineapple, strawberry, honey lemon, red plum, kumquat lemon, honeydew, rose, passion fruit guava], milk teas [black sugar, black sugar with pudding, strawberry, matcha and red bean, iced coffee with ice, thai tea with ice, Vietnamese coffee], slushies [thai tea, honeydew, milk tea, lychee, taro, mango milk, green tea, strawberry banana, chocolate, coconut, pineapple], and hot drinks [coffee, green tea, chocolate]. There are various toppings that include golden boba, mango jelly, black sugar jelly, rainbow jelly, lychee jelly, strawberry boba, mango boba, and coffee jelly. Along with slices of cake, cookies, and pudding desserts. Like OMG what more could you want? They have everything! ------Items I am in love with/ recommend include: 'Garlic Ahi, Garlic Salmon and Garlic Hamachi'! All of these are seared with a Garlic Mayo/Aioli sauce on top. It is sooo delicious... The 'Spicy Tuna Bombs' are also amaaaaaaazing! 3.5 stars. Garlic salmon and garlic ahi set was delicious with nice portions. Speed of service was a bit on the slow side. Pricier than their competition. My poor friend got a tuna salad handroll for 7.25. That's the most expensive roll I've ever seen. 10 dollar card minimum. read more
We liked it! First time here. As we read earlier, the place is very clean and the young woman taking our order was very polite. We ordered Bento B1, spicy tuna, unagi, and garlic salmon and a special of the day, ahi nigiri, spicy ahi, garlic ebi bento, and 2 miso soups. We anticipated waiting a while, but it wasn't bad at all. The food was really good! Spicy ahi wasn't too spicy, but it had great taste. I liked the unagi sauce on my spicy ahi, and my garlic salmon was tasty. My husband really enjoyed the garlic ebi. They have a lot of ono-looking desserts! We opted for the almond bars. It was flaky, not too sweet, and really delicious. Prices were reasonable, too! We'll be back. read more
