My move from Lafayette, IN to Chicago, IL was possibly one of the most stressful things I had to go through in the last month, mostly because I found out halfway through the process that I wasn't able to move into my apartment until 1 day later than expected. This is where Jay Movers really pulled through. Overall I'd say that given all the logistics and circumstances I'm very satisfied with what has happened 1) I scheduled really last minute and I was really really wary about using movers at this point and was pretty glad there were lots of Yelp! reviews I could check. I think Susan was the sales lady and was really helpful at answering all my questions and also sent me itemized cost estimates via email 2) The owner or someone else would always call the day before to confirm move times. That was pretty good service. 3) My moving out from Lafayette occurred on a day with just absolutely pouring rain. The movers arrived 2 hours late as a result and went past my house twice before I called them to say that I was there. I think the movers I got the first day weren't as fast as the ones the move-in part at Chicago. I had a lot of furniture that they wrapped up in their plastic wrap - a lot of glass and parts - then blankets then tape, and they were taking a while. Overall, they were really nice and responded to my requests - including me running into the truck to take a box I realized I didn't want moved. Also I want to mention upfront that their hourly rates are quite reasonable (I was quoted 75/hr for 2 guys) and they had me confirm all start and end times. 4) Jay stored my stuff overnight and I'm pleased to say that nothing broke in the whole process. 5) I was really, really impressed with moving in on the Chicago side. I mentioned several times that I needed them to start promptly at 7AM because I only had a 7 - 9AM window. While the movers arrived 20 minutes late and did not call my cell phone when I asked them to so that I can come down and get them, they were able to find the loading dock, and these two movers were FAST! They loaded up my bedroom, living room, and about 12 boxes in maybe 1 hour, were really friendly as well and helpful. I would give them 5 stars if the company was more punctual or at least would call to say that they're running late. I would highly recommend them to anyone considering doing moves in the Chicago area. read more

Overall, very happy with Jay Movers. They were the cheapest quote I got ($88.00 an hour plus a flat fee for driving). Plus, they quoted me for 3 hours and it only took them 2.5...win!!! The movers were very fast and nice. The company called me afterward to make sure everything went all right. Good experience! My only beef is that they were not very easy to communicate with. After I originally scheduled my move, I had to make a change of address. They did so, but when the movers arrived, they had the wrong address. I am very particular about my stuff, Omar was the head of my team of four. He walked me through everything and made sure my stuff went where it should. My husband and I moved a few weeks ago and were both new to using movers. After the original movers we booked fell through the day before our move-in date, we didn't think we'd be able to find anyone on such short notice. I called Jay Movers and fortunately they had availability the following morning. They came 15 minutes early and worked HARD and FAST. We had lived in our apartment for 4+ years so we had a lot of stuff to move. Not only were they hard-working, they were extremely professional and courteous. Pricing was around the same as other quotes we received, give or take about $50. We did our own packing, so I'm not quite sure about the services offered for that. They did a great job treating items with care and making sure large/heavy furniture was appropriately padded. We will definitely use them again in the future and would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking to move. read more

Once I filled out an estimate request on their site, Jay Movers called me a couple times to make sure the arrangements were to my liking. They were very accommodating, especially considering that I made the appointment last minute. I was quoted at $210 for 2.5 hours for 2 men. This was a steal considering I paid this much to rent a truck for my last move. The day of the move, Ronny and a helper showed up on time and got to work. They repacked some of the random stuff I hadn't packed so well without a frown or additional cost. There was great communication between the movers and I about what to take and what to leave. Not one single thing was broken or damaged, even the glasses which I had packed in a milk crate with no protection or wrapping. A great job all around! I had seen their truck and read reviews on here so decided to contact them to get estimates for a long distance move. I chatted with a representative online who passed on my details incl a phone number to someone who would be calling me within the next few days. Not only did I never hear from anyone, I never received a response to my email for an estimate either. In my opinion, it is highly unprofessional to fail to follow-up on a request from a prospective customer and this has turned me off of the idea of considering them for my move. read more

These people are just fantastic. We had a 3 bedroom apartment with a lot of furniture. They wrapped our furniture in moving blankets (we had the blankets already) and shrink-wrap-type-stuff. They hauled everything we asked them to everywhere we asked them to go. They were polite, fast, professional and gentle with our stuff. They moved a HUGE big screen TV like champs. What else can I say? Have everything you can boxed before they arrive because they are FAST. The movers were a little late because of the job before us and traffic, but the office called me TWICE to make sure everything was OK and it was really no big deal. They showed up 10 minutes early. It was a very difficult move because the back area was flooded. They navigated around the mess, they didn't break anything and were quick. There was no elevator, winding exposed stairway in the rain carrying a heavy couch, heavy tv, heavy tv stand, etc. I honestly don't know how they did it. They covered every item with blankets and tape so nothing even got wet. They came in 45 minutes early so it under budget. I gave the money I saved as extra tip to the three movers. I'm really glad we picked Jay Movers for our move this past weekend. Jose Martinez and his crew of two other people were incredible fast and efficient at getting out stuff out of our second floor apartment and into our new home. The movers were about 15 minutes late, but at 7:00 AM who can blame them, but they got right to work moving our things. They did charge an additional hour because we were moving to the suburbs, but that is to be expected for such a long distance. I've used Jay Movers twice now and it was a solid experience both times. This time around I needed to move from a studio to a 1-bed. I had a super easy experience getting a quote, and BK the office manager was extremely polite and helpful in setting everything up and answering my questions. On moving day I was helped by Dorsey, Jorge V., and Teddy. All three of them were friendly, efficient, and fast. They even wrapped up my furniture for free. The move only took 2 hours start to finish, and in that time nothing was broken, dropped, or lost. Pricing was transparent and super affordable. We had to move on the 1st of the month and on a weekend. several companies were booked and we lucked out with Jay Movers. They cam recommended from a work buddy. we were a 3 bedroom apartment moving parts of town. They were prompt as hell and were unstoppable! unbelievable work fellas and they were worth every penny. Very close to the quoted amount and we had a lot of stuff. Tom is great and he coordinates everything and follows up to make sure the move is still on. Would definitely use these guys again - everything was VERY professional from the first call and estimate to the very end. I called Jay Movers on a Sunday morning, after I realized that the movers I had contacted off of Craigslist.org were not going to show up, though they never called (claimed to be called 'Chicago Movers' but had no website, and I asked them day after day for a copy of license and insurance but they never faxed it and never called me about it - this guy's name is Vic and if you see him on Craigslist.org, be forewarned!). A little more than I was willing to spend? Yes. But with peace of mind and reassurance that my things would be taken care of? Yes. They are licensed, insured, and are approved on the Better Business Bureau (and a little less expensive than other Chicago movers I found that had the same credentials). They moved my 2 BR furniture, some of it pretty heavy and difficult to get through the hallway and doors of the walk-up I was moving into, safely and quickly. 3 men + a huge truck = $88 / hr. Travel fee = $44. What Jay did not quote me on was that there would be a 'materials' charge for the blanket, wrap, etc. (which is why they are missing a star) - but the lead guy ended up taking that charge off, in exchange for making sure his guys got tipped well. And I was fine with that, as they worked really hard to get my move done within the 2.5 hour minimum timeframe. So the total cost without tip was $264. This was the first time, in my years of moving (and I have moved over 20 times since living in Chicago!) - that I have ever hired movers. Would definitely use them again! read more

I used Jay movers again a year later in May 2010. I set up the move online and I assumed it was confirmed. On the day of my scheduled move, they never showed up. They told me that I had never booked the movers. I knew I had done the online booking, but I guess it was never confirmed, so they took my reservation off the list. If you use them, confirm a few days in advance! Luckily, they had movers to my house within a half hour of calling them (an hour later than I had originally booked them). They were fast and efficient. A little less careful with my items this time, though. read more

Three years ago my husband & I used Jay Movers from a 2 bdrm condo to a 3 bdrm. The move was a little under 4 hours and they guys were incredible. We had one problem and it was our fault. This past weekend we used them again for a move from the 3bdrm condo to a single family home within the same zip code. The move took 6 hours with multiple smoke breaks (which apparently we pay for) and horrible organization. Half our boxes, which were clearly marked with the floor and room ended up on the wrong levels, our old condo had 2 major chunks taken out of the walls, at our new house the walls are all scratched up. They refused to bring my desk upstairs to my office because they said it wouldn't fit, the next day some friends and I got the desk up the stairs and into the office. They also "forgot" to set up our guest room furniture because it wouldn't fit", of course we set it up and it fits just fine. They left the plastic wrap on our master bedroom bed and three bags of plastic wrap garbage. We were so impressed wit this company the first time around but this time was so disappointing that I just had to share. I know it's not an easy job but we pay a lot of money for your services and for you to not do your job to the fullest and to take multiple smoke breaks, in the truck with my stuff in it, is unacceptable. I will say of the four guys, 2 did great and were helpful. We will never use Jay Movers again and will not suggest them, as we had been doing for the past 3 years. read more

Updating my review after our most recent experience with Jay. Not sure if ownership has changed, but quality of service definitely has. We hired Jay to load our uhaul before moving out of state. We went the three mover option, for 2.5 hours. Well, one of the three movers was underage (17) and wasn't prepared for the work required. The team overall was slow, and did a poor job loading our truck. The movers we used in TN to unload the truck couldn't believe how it was packed, with framed pictures stuffed between furniture, and light boxes stacked under heavier boxes with books. When we called to complain we were told they couldn't do anything to reimburse us for the poor experience because we purchased the minimum amount of time. I'm not sure how that's relevant, but I want to make sure others are aware that the quality of service is severely lacking. read more

Then when I had to reschedule on the day of my move because the power went out in my building, they got me in only a few days later and at no extra cost. These guys were fantastic. Moving is stressful enough, and, as I'd never hired a moving company before, I didn't know what to expect. The three guys that moved us came to our place on time, got to work immediately, and had a good attitude about the vast number of boxes and and heavy furniture pieces that we apparently had in comparison to other two-bedroom apartment moves. The price ($450 before the tip) came out to be about $100 more than the estimate, but it was still hundreds below all of the other companies from whom I requested a quote. I'll never go back to enlisting my wonderful friends again. The whole process from moving from Logan Square to the West Loop took about three hours, and absolutely none of my furniture, walls, or floors were damaged. When I got to my new place at about 11:00am on the day of the move, my friends helped me arrange, decorate, and unpack, rather than sweating all day moving boxes. I'd call Jay Movers again in a heartbeat. read more

One of the worst experiences with a company. The crew called that they would be 30 mins late (mind you we were the first move of the day)- I should have known it was going to be a bad day with that start. The lead guy said that one of his crew members was hungover so he needed to get his nephew to help. I later learned the Nephew is 16 year old! He moved at a snail's pace. I ended up moving things faster than him and I was pregnant at the time. Long story short- they significantly broke two pieces of furniture- they dropped a dresser and its leg shattered- Also broke our bar by picking it up wrong. They also did damage to our brand new remodel walls and the place we moved from. Worst the lead guy ended up yelling at me for calling to complain while they were still on site. I would never recommend this company to anyone. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

This is a TERRIBLE moving service! The management is awful. When we reserved our moving day I asked about extra fees and they told me there was none. In the contract I noticed a travel time fee and they said that you were charged for travel to your new place, but then when we finished they added travel time from our place to their office and from their office to our place which supposedly was an hour and an extra $108 plus tax. Terrible, especially since they told me this was just travel to and from the apartment. Then when we contested it at the end the person was awfully rude and disrespectful to the movers and us. My experience with Jay Movers was as smooth as a baby's behind...and I'm a stressy mess when it comes to moving! BK always answered the phone (even working from home since we had to move during a worldwide PANDEMIC, yikes). This is the first review I've ever written on yelp. This was the worst experience I've ever had with movers. I moved from Gold Coast to Logan Square - original quote was $700 - ended up paying $1500. They broke my desk and didn't reimburse me for it. Mr. Jay came to my home because the movers were taking so long, saw the broken desk, said he would pay per the contract, but never did. They also totally destroyed the corners of my $2,500 ethan allen couch. I only had it for a year and it looked like I got it from the trash. Never got anything for that, either. I've used 2 Men and a Truck before and had a much better experience - go with them and don't waste your money on Jay Movers. read more
