Found this gem of a spot during our visit to Virginia Beach. The outdoor vibes here are perfect to enjoy a nice breakfast and coffee of your choice. Great place to bring your dog, they provided a water bowl for my puppy and had tables in the shade to keep her cool. I was content drinking cold brew as is, sometimes cream or sugar is needed when the coffee beans aren't that great, but I really enjoyed this cold beverage for my morning boost. Maybe some of the girls were in training, maybe they were fielding lots of takeout orders? However at the time of my original, posting there was no outdoor seating. Having been a waitress, I'm very aware of extenuating circumstances that might affect service. There's no way this manager knows who I am, or where I was sitting, and to describe the situation as if they knew, is crazy. It's not a big place and I've been seated in many different areas. Yum yum to the coffee and desserts! A nice quaint cafe. I always go for the salted Carmel latte and it never disappoints. Strong coffee flavor, not too sweet and that right touch of saltiness. The owner came out when I was looking at the baked goods and took the time to explain how he enjoyed making the desserts. He's French so I poked at him on French desserts to see if he makes them and he said he would for me!! Just give him advanced notice and he'll have it ready. Now that's the way to my heart! We arrived about 4 minutes before they opened (at 8am on Labor Day) and the owner was super nice; he greeted us and personally let us inside to be seated. Our server was very helpful and attentive. She helped us make our selections; I ordered the Big Kahuna and my husband had The Lighthouse. The Big Kahuna was good, but damn....The Lighthouse was where it was at. We were staying right around the corner so thought we'd pop in for a drip and a latte. I got the lavender latte and it's one of the best I've ever had! So smooth, and just the right amount of lavender: herbal without being over-the-top floral. My husband had the drip and said it was smooth and tasted great, no bitterness. I was super impressed with our experience at Java Surf this past weekend! We wanted to get a quick bite before an event at the convention center and Java Surf was our pick and I'm so glad it was! We were quickly seated by the window and were able to take in all the fun themed decor! I loved the surf boards and all the decor items and enjoyed looking around at everything while we waited for our breakfast! I began with the cortado as my drink which was served beautifully with the foam in the shape of a heart! I'm a sucker for coffee art so I loved this! I had to add a few packets of sugar to sweeten this up but it was really good! Their coffee options are great and if you leave their less than caffeinated then it's your own fault! "A" and I both decided to build our own breakfast sandwiches and we both really liked ours! I did the everything bagel with cheddar cheese and turkey sausage and he did the above but on a croissant! They were great and really filling too as they were stuffed with egg, cheese and the turkey sausage which I thought was a good value at $8 each! I also got a side of chips to go with the sandwich which was a perfect addition! Our food arrived quickly after ordering and we were in and out of there in 40 minutes or less which was exactly what we had wanted to do! How in the world have we lived in Virginia Beach for 5 years and have not been to this place before today? This is the hidden coffee gem I have been looking for. It has been a long time since I have had a real latte! A great cup of coffee can be enjoyed without any flavored creamers or sugar added, and this cafe has some amazing coffee! The food was delicious! Great selection and they even have vegetarian and vegan options. I also noticed them preparing some freshly squeezed orange juice. I've been here a couple time and thought I'll leave them another review. The hostess is still extremely nice and great. The food and coffee is still consistently good. I ordered The Lighthouse melt and it was delicious!! Only one issue the server that we had this time seemed new and took our order and I didn't see her again until she dropped off the bill. My favorite thing about Java surf is the music and atmosphere. This place gives me all the feels of my early twenties living at the beach and I love it. I was sort of disappointed with the lighthouse melt because I had seen all the photos on Yelp, but was surprised to see that it looked different now. It was good, a little spicier and crispier than I expected. Wait was longer than expected considering it wasn't as busy as the weekends. Not sure if they switched up the menu. Honestly they are only getting 2 stars because, the girl who helped us was super nice. But we arrived at Java surf at 11:20am ordered our food and coffee at the same time. It took them 45 minutes to finally realize they never brought us our coffee. And then it them 1.5 hours because they lost our order. The establishment was not busy and had over 6 girls rotating bringing out food and drinks to customers. We not approached by anyone during this time. Good customer service would involve someone asking if we needed something or checking in on the customer. Food was good, customer service not the best. read more

Java Surf is my favorite coffee shop by far!!! The food was so delicious i was thinking about it three days later. The hot coffe was very well done with none of that nasty burned pot taste a lot of coffee spots have. I have yet to have an iced coffee from them but if its as good as their other items then i cant wait to try. The atmosphere isnt really one where you would grab a cup and do some work, its more of a place where you grab a couple friends and have a good time. Parking is pretty bad but its totally worth it for the mouth watering food and the top shelf coffee. If only Java Surf was closer to where I lived, Starbucks would NEVER see me again! read more

A friend & I tried this place yesterday, looking for a nice cappuccino and maybe a pastry. We went inside and were told we had to go outside to order but we could bring our food back inside, which made no sense. We went back outside ordered a cappuccino, latte, muffins and had to stand around in the wind/rain while they made the order inside, then brought it back outside. We asked for our coffee's in a mug. They said no can do. Must be paper cup. It was a circus at the place with about 5-6 young workers standing around inside. We parked next to the Java Surf building in a lot that was attached to the painted side of Java surf. When we came out less than an hour later my car had been towed by a local predatory towing company that apparently does hourly patrols past the lot waiting for unsuspecting Java Surf customers to park there and then they immediately tow them. I had to pay $145 to get my car out. The towing company clerk advised there were designated Java Surf parking spots in the lot, but apparently it's anyone's guess which spots are safe. This experience was simply dreadful. read more

Don't waste your money or your time. The owner was extremely rude and the food was mediocre. We came here on a Thursday morning with family and placed 3 separate orders. One order came right away. The second order came after 45 minutes. The third order never came. When we went to ask they gave us 2 free cookies and said the order didn't print. When we went to ask again they gave us our money back and cancelled the order without telling us. When we asked for the food the owner told us to "get out of my store" and go somewhere else if we wanted "free food". I'm not a coffee drinking so my review is primarily based on the food and service. I used to go to the Java Surf location at La Promenade, but when it closed, I turned to the ViBe location. I was pleasantly surprised to see Dwayne, the owner, in the restaurant on a Thursday morning. It's not often that I get to interact with a restaurant owner unless something special is happening. He and my server was so friendly and welcoming. I would return to Java Surf solely for the warm atmosphere. My favorite thing to order is the Hot Mess Scramble. Its a bit of everything, plus fresh pico de gallo. On my most recent visit, I ordered The Mediterranean wrap. I've found that the food at Java Surf fills you up without making you feel like a glutton. Like I said, I'm not a coffee drinker so my go-to is usually a Chai Tea Latte. On a cold day, definitely go for the S'mores Hot Chocolate. It's thick and rich, the way hot chocolate should be. read more

I've recently been getting my drinks with almond milk or oatmilk - so there are several non-dairy options for those looking for alternatives. Lunch and breakfast food items are delicious and the portions are generous. I most recently got the custom breakfast sandwich with egg, pepper jack, bacon, avocado and sriracha mayo (!) on an everything bagel. SO GOOD. Loving the new cafe on Mediterranean!!! This shop has been busy the past few times when I have visited, but never more than a 5min wait. The menu hasn't strayed from the original cafe, it still has bagel melts and panini's. I did see that they are offering more baked goods and added a few more salads to the menu. Drinks are always superb, current obsession is the chai latte (spicy). Can't go wrong with any of the coffee's as that is their specialty, Im a smore's fan!!! The staff is awesome too, ordered a bagel melt last week and it came out alittle to melted (burnt). Just scrumptious! I visited Java Surf Cafe & Espresso Bar after making myself a list of coffee shops I wanted to visit as a form of self-care for myself. This was the first one I visited and WOW did it deliver. I was able to sit inside (rainy day) with my book, and order breakfast and coffee. I got "The Frank" AKA the everything bagel with lox and capers, paired with a coconut hazelnut cappuccino. Now let me tell you, I am from Jersey so bagels are hard to please in my eyes, but this bagel met my standards! The bagel was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, the lox was fresh and the capers were perfect. I know everyone thinks the first sip of their coffee is euphoric, but THIS. SIP. WAS. EVERYTHING. The coffee was rich and flavorful, no short of putting a smile on my face. Overall, my experience here was great. The service was everything you would need, the food was delicious, the coffee amazing. And to top it off, the music playing was upbeat and sort of not what you would expect from a coffee shop, but it fit very well.
