The bagel with the cream cheese was good but the cappuccino was a bit too bitter for my personal preference. The weather was nice enough for me to enjoy the large outdoor space

Nice cozy "beachy" vibe. Full of beautiful plants. Service was great. I was indecisive as to what to get and never felt rushed or that I was an inconvenience. Indoor and outdoor sitting available area. Coffee tasted great and that pumpkins didn't taste like store bought syrup.

Quick service, large burrito, great vibes. Can't beat breakfast at Java Surf Cafe. There's a spacious indoor section, plenty of food option. Ping pong table for those needing an activity. Burrito was filling and flavorful!

Charming cafe. Interesting too as they have a ping pong table and merchandise section in the middle of the dining area. Service was friendly. I ordered their Mexi Melt, a recommendation from the staff. I'd love to give it higher than a 3 stars but I couldn't ignore that the cream cheese on the everything bagel was half inch thick, making it too rich. Then with the guacamole and the very generous melted cheese just made it over the top. Sometimes you can have too much of good things. The turkey sausage was not a whole piece but just slices not enough to cover the surface of the bagel, making the proportion of dairy/fatty to protein to carbs disproportionate.

Cute coffee shop with mediocre coffee and food. I really loved the atmosphere and know this would be an awesome stop in the summer. I got an iced latte but espresso felt watered down and syrups were average. We got one of their burritos to share and it was good, but we felt it lacked sauce and they didn't have any sour cream, etc to pair with it.

It is a clean and friendly coffee shop. The inside is clean and has outdoor seating area. Staff is nice, coffee is good. We had the dawn patrol burrito, decent size for sharing. A cool local place to check out.

Cute little spot with a hipster vibe. We stopped in looking for something quick and inexpensive to share for breakfast, and it fit the bill. The food was okay--not bad, just nothing I'd return specifically for. The real highlight was the latte, which was delicious and well-made. If you're nearby and want a quick grab-and-go breakfast with great coffee, this place works.

The food was bland and we found two hairs in our food, disgusting and not clean, they need to wear hair Nets cause this is ridiculous

Bacon! Java Surf Associate asked if our dog would like bacon bc they were out of Pup Cup Whipped Cream!
Genie G.

We asked for a "pup cup" aka whipped cream. Java Surf asked, "do you think she'll like bacon?"!! We love this local place for espresso drinks, Build Your Own Breakfast Sandwich; I keep it simple, croissant, cheddar cheese & scrambled eggs!

Big Kahuna breakfast burrito

I don't why it took me forever to visit this place because it's pretty amazing. This is my third time being stationed in the area and today was the day I wanted to go here. I was a little confused on the parking. I parked behind the building so I had to ask if it was ok so I didn't get risk getting my car towed. I ordered the Big Kahuna Breakfast burrito and it's such a huge portion and it was so delicious. I love the beachy vibe and it's not too far from the beach which is nice. Definitely check out this place if you haven't been. I will be back for more.

Everything was worth the wait. The big kahuna was exactly what I needed for breakfast after a long night and early morning. The sauces were perfect with the crunch of the wrap and the ingredients inside. The bagel had the perfect texture, it was a bit crisp on the outside but chewy inside. The surf vibes inside the shop were adorable and we enjoyed the outside area to enjoy the breeze. I wish we had a Java surf in my hometown!! Would definitely come by again.

I had the absolute pleasure of talking with Rachael about her incredible business. She's passionate about her space and it really shows. I walked in ten minutes before close and her and her partner were happy to make me a breakfast burrito and entertain my many questions. It's obvious that this fan favorite is a staple in Virginia Beach and I say it's a must stop. Food and coffee were both delicious and they are happy to make food modifications for vegetarians.

Vanilla Iced Coffee(real vanilla)

Amazing all around. Really good coffee with real ingredients. Don't even get me started on how good the food is... try the lifeguard wrap. The owners are super nice and welcoming too. Awesome surf vibes and quick service. Fav spot:)

I tried the pumpkin spice latte and the chocolate smoothie bowl, and both were great choices. The smoothie bowl was made with raw cacao, peanut butter, banana, maple syrup, and almond milk, topped with dried coconut, raw oats, cinnamon, fresh banana, and cacao nibs. It was chocolatey, satisfying, and felt like the perfect treat without being too heavy. One of my favorite things about this spot is that it's more than just a cafe! They have both indoor and outdoor seating, so it's a great place to grab a drink, catch up with a friend, or spend some time relaxing. There's also a thoughtfully curated gift shop featuring both local and globally sourced artisanal finds. You can browse everything from clothing, books, and jewelry to sweet treats from My Vegan Sweet Tooth. It's the kind of place where you go in for a smoothie and end up spending extra time looking around at all the fun things they have. I love when a business offers something a little different, and this place definitely has that unique charm. Between the coffee, smoothie bowls, shopping, and cozy atmosphere, there's a little something for everyone. It would also be a great spot to find a unique gift or treat yourself to something special. Definitely worth checking out if you're at the oceanfront and want to support a local business while enjoying some good drinks, tasty treats, and a little shopping!

And I just got a salad and appetizer. I've never had Turkish food before, so take my review with that in mind...but IT WAS SO GOOD. This was the best hummus I've ever had. It was so....just, flavorful. And fresh. I could tell someone MADE it with their own two hands. The baba ghanoush had a nice smokey flavor, the lebni tasted just like tzatziki except better...vibrant. The pita was nice and warm. The dolma rolled tight and stuffed well (I really wanted more than 2, but wasn't going to be greedy and order another whole side of it...rookie mistake. Won't happen again). The salad was also strangely delicious. I mean it was just a salad...but the walnuts, the mixed greens, the dries cranberries, the feta, carrots, apple....it all went together so incredibly well. It's not something I usually order, but I really wanted some veggies and this gave me exactly what I needed. I sorta feel like I gave myself a B12 shot. This was also my first time having Turkish coffee. I'll admit, I googled how to drink it cause I was confused by the little "pebbles" that came on the side. Yeah, nah, those are chocolates. And when you take a sip of the hot, kinda bitter coffee and then eat a chocolate?! Yes, please! You know it's gonna be strong when they bring out a tiny serving of it, too. Perfect way to end my meal. (Also, your entire mouth will absolutely burst into flames if you try the coffee as soon as it's delivered. Do yourself a favor and order it with the rest of your meal, let it sit covered while you eat, and then drink it at the end. If you're new here, like I am, you're welcome.) I came in about an hour after they opened, so it was empty (more people came in as I was eating and finishing my meal). The seating was very comfortable, the wait staff was helpful and attentive. There's some cute decorations around the room that made me want to ask questions about the culture, but, again....too busy eating. Now that I'm gone and writing this, I wish I'd given them a bigger tip. My tip wasn't small, but it also didn't adequately express how much I really enjoyed that meal. I hope more people try this place out and keep it in business for a long time. I realize I ordered probably the most basic thing you can get: a salad and a plate of dips lol but man it was all just so good. Next time I'll go for a couple dishes that I'm not sure how to pronounce. THANK YOU FOR FEEDING ME!

The lahmacun was incredible, one of the best I have ever tasted out of hundreds of Turkish restaurants I tried all over the states, the perfect dough thickness, softness and crisps, the fresh meat with seasoned spices just right. The Adana kabob was delicious. Ending with the hot Turkish coffee served in the traditional tray presentation was cherry on the top. I highly recommend you experience this great place for a flavourful dinner experience to enjoy at Virginia beach.

After he selected a cinnamon bun, I ordered it heated. A moment later, I added two more cinnamon buns for my husband and daughter. The cashier visibly rolled her eyes at what was literally a two-second delay in completing my order. I then ordered a coffee, a dark chocolate latte with almond milk, a cookie, and a gluten-free biscotti. My total was around $21, and I added a $5 tip. While my card was still processing, another customer walked in. The cashier repeatedly told me, "You're all set," even though the card reader had not finished processing my payment. The interaction felt rushed, as though I was being pushed aside for the next customer despite there being no line. While waiting for my order, the barista called out a "decaf latte with almond milk." Since I had ordered a dark chocolate latte with almond milk, I let her know it wasn't mine. The barista immediately appeared irritated and looked ready to dump the drink. The cashier then clarified that the ticket said "dark chocolate," not "decaf," and it became apparent that the handwritten order had been misread. The replacement drink was made while the barista loudly slammed equipment and banged metal tools around, making it very clear she was unhappy about having to remake it. The entire experience felt hostile and uncomfortable. To make matters worse, none of the employees were wearing gloves while handling food items, which raised concerns about cleanliness and food safety. Based on my experience, the customer service was poor, the atmosphere was unwelcoming, and the food handling practices were concerning. I wish I had read the reviews beforehand, as several other customers appear to have reported similar issues. There are plenty of coffee shops in the Virginia Beach area that value customer service. I'd recommend spending your money elsewhere.
