Avocado spread is brown.
Brittany B.

This is based off a Waitr experience. Which is basically strictly what the food looks and taste like so I believe that's pretty crucial. I was so hoping to love this place so I could bring my little here. I ordered avocado toast which is like 7+. The avocado spread was literally brown. I just can't even believe someone would think it's acceptable to even put that on a piece of bread that someone paid for. Coffee was pretty decent.

New food place that's fun for kids and adults!

So excited Baton Rouge finally has another option for a play and eat type restaurant. My family of four went here today for lunch, and no doubt my 6.5 and 3.5 year old girls loved it. They were able to play their hearts out while their dad and I ordered food and yummy coffee and tea drinks. The play area was very big with a male attendant supervising and assisting the kids there from 9-2. I somehow thought it would be free since we were buying food, but I guess since we didn't have to tend to our kids much, that's what we were paying for. It was $8 for one kid then $5 for additional kids for unlimited time as long as parents don't leave. This would actually be a steal of a deal for a work from home mom/dad like the moms I saw today working/doing schoolwork with their laptops while their kids played. There were lots of play options such as small monkey bars and slides, a puppet show area, a caterpillar tunnel, etc. Great for toddlers to perhaps 8 year olds. Compared to other food places with free play areas (like George's on George O'Neal with their outdoor play area), I would choose this one in a heartbeat. No worrying about weather, and the food here was healthier and just better in my opinion. The location on Bluebonnet just past Perkins is close proximity to the mall and much of BR population too. The service was exceptional, especially with the sweet owner, Melissa, there answering all my questions about the biz and making sure we were satisfied with everything. She informed me that this is only the 3rd Java Mama franchise in the US, and she clearly has freedom to change up her menu as 3 of the 4 paninis were named after her sons - so cute! I chose the chicken salad on croissant, and my husband chose the ham, turkey, avocado, etc. on croissant, both with fresh fruit as our side. I'm a chicken salad sandwich lover, and hers was definitely unique and scrumptious. I tried my husband's too, and it was so fresh and delicious. My girls tried the Wow butter and jelly and the 5 for $5 mix in muffin pans. My oldest flipped out when she discovered that the Wow butter was actually a type of peanut butter (which she loathes), but have no fear, the owner quickly made her an actual butter and jelly sandwich that my daughter gobbled up. The 5 for $5 was perfect for my 3.5 year old too and had great quality and heathy options. Overall, (meaning I'm ready to wrap up yet another epic review lol), I would definitely recommend this new business, especially for families. Not sure it will cater to people without kids unless you just decide to grab a quick bite of some yummy options. The prices were definitely higher than expected, but then great quality does warrant higher end cost. Pretty sure this will be my family's new favorite lunch hangout.

If you have kids and you have never been here You Need To Come!! It is such a fun little place for kiddos to play and moms, parents, grandparents to have coffee & chill while the play supervisors watch the kids. They have breakfast, lunch, coffee and sweets. Tons of toys and books in the play area for the kids and nice seating for adults. Their coffee and food is alright to me and a little pricy But having a place this kids friendly is So Awesome!! I've been a few times now, service can be slow at times but they have very nice and friendly staff.

I think this is a prime example of your rating being dependent upon your expectation level. For me, I do not expect a full service nanny while at Java Mama. I except the employees to be courteous and helpful in taking and delivering my order, and if there's a Play Attendant for a few hours in the morning then great. But I still expect to be responsible for my child. The play area is nice and it is filled with toys that are novel and easily accessible for my 20 month old. I can very easily work at the bar area and view the entire play area. Even without a play attendant I can successfully get a few hours of work in. For $8 dollars for the entire day I think that is worth it. Java mama offers in and out privileges so you are able to leave and come back without repaying. They do not require that you purchase any food or beverages, which is nice. I have brought our own snacks and milk for my children and they have never said anything to me about it. However we do frequently purchased a Panini and soup or the snack At at five dollars for five different snack size portions of finger foods It is plenty to fill up both my six-year-old and my 20 month old. They do offer cups for ice cold lemon water. The bathroom situation could you some additional maintenance. I have often found it under stocked or dirty at opening at 9 AM. But I chalk this up to the fact that it is teenagers essentially running the place when the owner is not there. The interactions we have had with the play attendants have been very positive. When they are there I am able to leave my 20 month old in the play area and go use the restroom by myself or place an order, both very helpful. I have seen many reviews chastising them for not correcting out of control children however I do not do that as their job. Again, It is not meant to be a daycare, it is meant to be a safe environment where children can play semi-supervised but parents need to expect to step in and mediate when necessary. One thing that will be a problem for us soon is that the play area is intended for children five and under. My six-year-old plays nicely with the younger children but gets bored easily when there are not any other older children to interact with. So far no one has asked her age or asked her to not play in the area though. The location is nice, nearby to brew bachers as well as the Bluebonnet library branch, and not too far to access from Highland Road or the I 10 interstate. They do offer a monthly family membership that I believe is a good deal if you think you will be visiting at least once a week. Bottom line is that it is a helpful place to go for moms to get some respite or actually get a little bit of work in it without paying for a nanny for the entire day.

Based on the reviews and seeing that this place roasted their own coffee I was very excited to try it but it left much to be desired. Walked in to a very lively coffee shop, lots of students and they had a very nice sized space. Service was bleh, not very friendly just kind of like "what do you want attitude". Not sure if the college students employed are a little stressed out but you are in the service industry, give people a good experience! Ordered a pour over and an oatmeal cream pie. The pour over was good! Whoever is roasting did a great job highlighting the origin flavors of that coffee and it was brewed well thanks to the automated brewing system they had. The oatmeal cream pie was nothing special. A little hard and couldn't tell if it was old or just a recipe used that made it dense. The worst part for me was at the area you pick up drinks, it was messy and because of that mess there were a lot of little fruit fly looking things flying around. Not the best look for an establishment serving food and coffee. I really wanted to like this place. My coffee was great but a coffee shop is more than the cup. It's the whole experience and unfortunately, it was lacking. If I'm ever back in the area I'd give it a second try to see if it was a one off or not.

It means so much to have found my new go-to coffee spot when I'm back in BR. The space itself is perfectly warm, clean, and welcoming. Everything is curated to make you feel like you belong. The coffee, tea, and food choices are perfect. I grabbed an espresso shot and cinnamon roll to stay and an iced matcha latte to go. The espresso was nicely dialed in, the notes were present and the barista served it wonderfully. The cinnamon roll was warmed up and freshly iced before being served. The matcha was so good, and a great choice to takeaway as a treat. The staff here really goes beyond to provide excellent service. This is my new go-to coffee spot in Baton Rouge. Thanks Coffee Joy!

Every table has outlets for devices, the space is open and well laid out with a mix of tables and comfortable couches that invite you to stay. The lighting is soft and warm, and gentle French music in the background creates a charming atmosphere. It's so comfortable it genuinely feels like a home away from home. The menu is thoughtfully curated, featuring seasonal items, genuinely fresh pastries, and excellent savory options. The equipment used to prepare both coffee and tea is top-of-the-line, and the quality shows in every cup. The olives pogača (pronounced pasha in Turkish), topped with sea salt, is truly unique--fluffy, rich, and deeply satisfying. The baklava is served warm and is remarkably soft and easy to enjoy, unlike the usually firm, layered texture you expect. There's also an impressive tea selection with real flavor, loose-leaf options, and specialty coffees, including French press with a choice of beans. Honestly, this place feels like a luxury for this town.
