Quirky little place with a great owner. Everyone was really nice actually. I was bummed that they didn't have any flavored cream cheeses but I didn't need them. The bagel, shmear and super thinly sliced tomatoes were delicious! I even caught myself staring at the hot dog a fellow patron was about to eat. She said it was amazing. Java Jax has character! We had originally planned to go to Good Day Café on our way to the ferry but we got kind of a late start so we decided to try Java Jax instead. We were quickly greeted upon our entrance by a really nice, smiling employee with a wonderful personality. She was very good at explaining things to us and took our order before disappearing into the kitchen to prepare our breakfast croissants that were stuffed with egg, cheese and turkey. On her recommendation we started out with a kind of cinnamon roll called Morning Buns. "Would you like your Morning Buns toasted?" She sweetly asked? "How do you like your buns?" I replied. "I like my buns toasty", she answered. (We now like toasty buns too.) After our wonderful, smiling employee retreated to the kitchen, the "man" took over. Think opposite of wonderful, smiling, helpful employee with great personality. Think ultimate nonsmiling, clueless person that so lacks any resemblance of personality that he becomes a classic character that would have been perfect on a sitcom like Friends. Think the kind of person that can convey that nonpersonality to you on your first visit because it radiates from his pours. How can you not love that guy? He only adds to the great character of Java Jax. It is a classic janky, no frills kind of place with plenty of room and seating and even has a small parking lot. I always thought the parking lot looked to have an awkward layout but once in, its not that hard to navigate at all. I took a spot under the overhang and was welcomed by art--a B&W mural depicting what this joint may have looked like in the olden days...fabulous. As I approached the building, espresso aromatics found their way into my nostrils and up to my brain. A scent so stimulating, I swear I felt my dopamine jump. I wasn't in the mood for hot java, or a new addiction. Maybe another day... At once, the "Double Rainbow" ice cream freezer nearly reached out and grabbed my thighs. Oh joy, but no. Another day, I thought again. I was here for a sammich! Like a fish outta water, I quickly looked around for the menu. I gathered that the gentlemen working here sensed a rookie, as they did not pressure me to order until my body language, or drooling, showed I had finished sizing things up. I was very satisfied with my final choices: -Turkey Pesto w/ Swiss on Sourdough. Huge slices and a generous amount of chilled turkey with a very tasty pesto, perfect swiss slices, fresh crisp lettuce and juicy tomato. Sammich perfection garnished with a big dill half and a surprisingly tasty potato salad. -Strawberry/Banana smoothie....w/ fresh frozen fruit. It was to die for...no lie. And finally, the piece DE resistance.... -Apple Pie Turnover...temptation from the pastry display. I tried to ignore this piece of work but it acted like a magnet to every piece of me. Every step away brought me two steps back. $13.50 was the total announced by the owner. I thought this was kinda high but before I could question it, "for here or to go" broke my frugal concentration. I looked around and saw some nice art on the wall, a disheveled bum getting a refill and an intellectual reading a quite sizable book....kinda serene, really. Decisions, decisions. What to do, what to do. Suddenly, the serpent in my mind suggested I take it to go. Because then, I could be all alone and be a bad little girl...he said. Yes, you know you want to steal a bite of the apple before lunch...he added. This is so dangerous. Hmmmmm. Submissively succumbing under pressure is not something I'm proud of but oh what a fun ride home it was. Pure butter. Then apple. Then more butter butter butter butter again. Oh how I love you butter. Apple butter. Butter with butter. Just butter. Butter with crust. Baked butter. Sliced butter. Whipped butter. Apple turnovers made with lots of butter. One heck of a butter crust filled with wonderful baked apples. The sandwich was really, reallly good. So was the smoothie. But my new foodie mission in life is to enjoy some of the java and another one of those evil turnovers. Mehh its ok i guess i work a block away and there is not a lot of options in downtown vallejo. Ive eatin here 3 times now trying three different meals 2 hot 1 cold and i have to say each time its been kinda bland,boring and lacking flavor. Everything taste like prepackaged proccessed food bought from the store. I think today will be my last time eating there its just not that good , I never had there bagel or baked goods so i cant comment on that however the girl working there is very nice and friendly If your limited to that downtown area your better off going to "My family style cafe" one block up food taste much better and about a dollar cheaper per item id say..... read more

I checked out Java Jax after reading the reviews on Yelp. I'm a sucker for a lox & cream cheese bagel. Even though I've driven by on Georgia St a bazillion times, I've never thought to check it out. So on a Sunday morning, my son & I got in the car and drove downtown. We pull around the corner onto Sonoma and yes, there is limited parking. So I parked down the street and walked back. First off, the guy at the counter was super nice. Acknowledged us even though he was helping the guy in front of us. I ordered a lox & cream cheese on onion bagel sandwich. Upon yelpers' recommendations, I also ordered a mocha. It was almost lunch time, so my son ordered a Chicago polish dog (I'm also a sucker for Chicago hot dogs, but that's a different story). All to go. The counter guy started working on my mocha and I saw he was using Ghiradelli chocolate (no wonder it was so yum)! The bagel came out first, then the hot dog came out. The cook/chef brought them out to us with a smile. The food smelled so good that we wanted to eat them in car. But alas, one cannot enjoy these delectable yum yums in motion. You need to be sitting at a table so that all the toppings (in both the bagel sandwich and hot dog) don't end up on your clothes! We thoroughly enjoyed the flavorful meal. I was just passing through Vallejo and looking for a great breakfast joint. Yelp reviews pointed me to this place. The breakfast selection is pretty limited in that they only have a breakfast burrito, breakfast sandwich and egg bowl and a bunch of sweet pastries. Coffee fiends might be able to make do with the drip and espresso drinks, and apparently they have French press. For breakfast I got the egg bowl with turkey and was just not impressed. I had asked for light on cheese and sour cream but there was still a lot of both. But then again maybe normally it has a ton of cheese and sour cream. The eggs were really dense. Meh. The reason I gave this place three stars is because the guys who work here are sooo nice and prompt. Sure, it isn't a destination breakfast spot but it's decent enough. I stopped in just to kill some time before a movie at the Empress Theater today. I decided I wanted a coffee for myself and got a Chai for a friend. To be honest, I went into my order with very low expectations on how how well my order would be. Well, the tuxedo mocha I ordered is now in my top 10 most delicious coffees I have ever ordered. Let my friend try it also and she wanted to trade her chai for my mocha. This also surprised me because the chai was just a mind blowingly good as the mocha. I've worked at a couple coffee shops as a barista, I routinely go out of my way to try new coffee shops wherever I go, and pride myself on buying high quality coffee. Dog friendly - there was a dish outside and they asked when we ordered if it had enough water. One of the staff (maybe the owner?) came out to say hi to the pup. Location works well, not a ton of parking in their lot but plenty of street parking (even on Saturday as the Farmer's Market was starting up). I've only had the coffee here but I was pleased by what I received. They have a nice older espresso machine and cranked out our drinks quickly. There is a decent amount of seating and Java Jax has a nice central location with parking. They do have a food menu as well as ice cream so I'll have to come back for both! I dined here before I read reviews, so when I ordered the bagel and lox I had yet to see all of this lavish praise. Well, it's definitely well deserved - I enjoyed it immensely! My coworker ordered a breakfast sandwich with ham and she had good things to say about it. I liked the relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. My coworkers and I met here on the fly to attend to some work matters, and I appreciate that the staff was fine with us writing notes and having our papers on the table. The service was very polite and attentive. You usually spend a good $12 here and is worth the money. They only do Breakfast, and Lunch and close around 3 or 4pm The spot where it is located has a good vibe to it. It has a shaded parking lot and is never crowded. You can sit down outside or they have a 50's sit down feel in the inside. Very spacious and has a lot of interesting art work that can be explored. Customer Service is what knocks it out of the ball park. The staff here are patient, quick, and welcoming. Love this place! The best chai latte! The service can get backed up but it is a neighborhood place so the insiders know where to go! They make a Chicago style Italian Beef that is nearly perfect -- they don't do the sweet peppers, only the hot. Only wish the menu was bigger and they were open longer! read more

I have been going here for almost a couple years now, don't know why I haven't written anything for this place yet. Dave runs this place with his super friendly, and dedicated staff. It's a perfect place to hang out, specially for breakfast/brunch. Really like their outdoor seating; just gives a great start to the day when I come hang with friends in the morning. They have a good collection of coffee and food. My favorite dishes here are- breakfast burrito, breakfast bagel (just had it an hour ago), and egg bowl. They also offer free wifi if you feel like doing some work/studying there while sipping on coffee (I do that sometime). I have studied in Starbucks, Panama Red, and Panera Bread. But the noise level at Java is much lower, and has fewer distractions. Personally, I am all about supporting privately owned businesses, and when they have as high standards as Java, it's certainly a winner. I hope this place continues to grow each day.
