I called them to make a complaint about my bagel as well as the level of service I received and the excise I received? Apparently, their customers have been increasingly asking for BURNT bagels so they decided to start burning everyone's bagels on request of a supposed few. Well, judging by the pictures alone of bagels on this Yelp page along with the fact that I've been here MANY times recently I know her excuse was complete and utter bullish!t. Talk about local. I think Java Jax has it down because 1) They offer good coffee, excellent bagel sandos and pastry selections AND hotdogs. Seriously hotdogs. 2) The downtown Vallejo area isn't exactly at its busiest so a horrible Starbucks or competing coffee chain isn't looming around every corner. It's definitely a local spot with families who stop by with their kids and dogs in the mornings to grab a coffee. On Saturdays it's a bit more busy because of the farmers market, but don't let that deter you. They have ample seating inside and a few tables outside. The staff is always friendly and the mochas... Fun & cool little place. Has a 50s feel to it.... The prices are fair, the place is clean, the people are nice, and the location is good. Also --- Free wifi! Ample seating (I've never seen them that busy anyway, but I think even if they were busy they could fit quite a few people) on neat bar stool tables. The place appears to be an auto garage converted into a cafe, which is kinda neat. Overall a cool place. Only things I don't like: THEY CLOSE AT 3 sometimes! Booo!!! This isn't so bad but they usually make my mocha frappe waaaay too sweet. Also, with the main counter being pretty close in proximity to the seating area, and no music that I can remember playing overhead, it can get a little awkwardly quiet in there sometimes. On occasional mornings I will get my bagel and cream cheese fix at Java Jax. Each visit is always pleasant and although I would love to explore other options, I'm pretty hung up on a bagel w/cream cheese and tomato. Ever tried it? It's delicious...add salt and pepper of course. You see Java Jax has far more to offer other than coffee and a bagel. They have a whole mix of breakfast, lunch, and a whole hot dog menu as well. While I find the prices to be a bit much (judge me) breakfast should be cheap... Have no fear! I find the quality of everything I've tried to be right on the mark for its price. Your experience will always be; quick, humble, polite, and if you need a sec to decide (there are so many yummy options) step aside and let the next person in line order. Very poor customer service! I came in to order a bagel lox and an iced coffee.. I have came here a few times before, always ordered HOT coffee.. well if you dare try this establishment go with hot coffee.. it's SELF serving so you will get it instantly, I ordered iced this time due to the weather and boy did I make a mistake ! There was a large order ahead of me so I get that.. but then I got my food.. then the couple who ordered after me got their food AND THERE ICED COFFEE! If it wasn't for my boyfriend who went and asked them about my coffee order I wouldn't say there until my food was finished and asked for my refund and for the tip I included in my bill! I'm paying good money just like everyone else in that building, the management needs to do better making sure everyone has gotten their items before the break their workers and the barista KNEW I was waiting ! NOT TO MENTION THE BAGEL AND LOX IS A RIP OFF!! They camouflage the salmon with tomatoes (who tf puts tomatoes on lox and bagels?) well they do ! This is a hidden gem that my wife and I found while going to the DMV. I'm from Chicago, and this was the best Italian beef I've had outside of the city. Owner needs to take a class on customer service. It seem's to me like he really doesn't like to serve minority's. Soon as someone like his kind comes in he's all like "Hi" all jolly to them.. If you ask him to add something on to a sandwich or anything extra he looks at you crazy and talks to you in a nice mean way as if you're irritating him. Food is ok.. Nothing to rave over. Thank goodness the trip to the Dillon Bread Company was a FAIL, otherwise I wouldn't have gotten the chance to try Java Jax. It's a cute little place with lots of folks hanging out in the morning enjoying their coffee and conversation. I picked up a groupon for Java Jax a couple weeks ago and thought we'd stop in for breakfast and coffee on our way into the city. I ordered a white mocha frappe with an add shot of caramel along with the bagel and lox. My friends also ordered frappes, bagels, and a turnover. We really enjoyed the frappes. Very rich and chocolatey! The bagels and lox were good too, as was the turnover. They had a nice selection of bagels to chose from for the sandwich. I would give the food at least 3.5 stars, and the guys behind the counter were great. They were very nice, patient, and helpful so I'm rounding it up to 4 stars. Java Jax is a little out of my way, but I will definitely go back whenever I'm in the neighborhood. read more

1. You can get a legitimate Chicago dog here. The owner's from Rogers Park and uses S. Rosen buns, sport peppers, and highlighter-green relish from the Windy City. Yes. 2. They'll make the most obnoxious espresso drink for you, and they'll do it with a smile. You can't order a cappuccino without them clarifying the type of milk you want and how dry/wet you would like it. 3. The place used to be a gas station. It's pretty cool to sit in. 4. Dogs and their owners are welcome to hang out at the outdoor tables. read more

Usually I go there on friday/saturday afternoons to study, and it get's pretty busy, esp. on saturday during the farmers market. but there's always a place to sit! the coffee....so good! You fill your own cup, and if you ask for a for-here cup, refills are just 50 cents. You usually have a choice between coffees too. read more

I just had one Chicago dog and classic dog here. They are beefy and flavorful and I really like them. My partner had a breakfast burrito which had bacon, eggs, banana chili pepper, and chili sauce in it. That reminded him breakfast burritos in New Mexico but without the spicy. Since he doesn't like spicy food, he really enjoyed it. The environment is pretty nice as well. It's bright, quiet and no coffee smell which normal coffee houses have. For me it is a plus. read more

Came here cuz of the rave reviews. Bought a breakfast bagel. Costed me $6.50. Was small and flavorless. Added salt and it tasted good, but came nowhere near to filling me up. Way overpriced. Also bought my wife a blt that was $9.50. Was also small and uneventful. Looked very plain and skimpy. Would probably take more than two to fill me up. Customer service was decent, but they forgot my chips in the bag. I had to ask for them. Would not return. read more

Solid coffee and breakfast but was most impressed with the vibe. You can tell they treat people well here.

I end up in Java Jax pretty much every time I go to Vallejo. They introduced me to the Tuxedo (or checkered mocha, or black and white, or Michael Jackson, or whatever you want to call it) and this place has been consistently awesome. I can always find the latest news on local music there, always get some good breakfast and coffee, and always get a smile out of whoever's working. Also, you can almost always find a bicyclist of one sort or another hanging out here. If you're big on biking, stop by from time to time and they'll get you info on a group ride in the area. read more

We were craving for some bagels on a chilly Monday morning and decided to go here for our very first time. We ordered our usual; whole wheat bagel with lettuce, tomato and cream cheese and a plain toasted bagel with butter. We were truly satisfied! My sister and I went to Java Jax this morning for breakfast, and we were very pleased with the service. The cashier was very very friendly, and after we ordered our food and sat down the chef brought the food out to us personally in a decent amount of time. I felt like the food was quite generous in proportion, and that the flavor of our meals (breakfast bagel and egg bowl) was quite yummy, not to die for. But it satisfied our hungry tummies! After we ate, a waiter came and asked if he could clean away our dishes, and we did appreciate that. We were glad that we went and would like to come back again. read more

Decent coffee and chicken salad sandwich only issue is if the cafe is closing soon and a customer comes in don't ask them if they want their food for "here or to go" if you're going to tell them 1 minute after they receive their food that you're closing. Assume if you don't know the person that they are a new customer and have no idea of your business hours...a little customer service goes a long way. read more

This is a review only about the coffee - no commentary on the food. On my second trip to Java Jax in Vallejo, I ordered a large coffee (the only size, in my book!) and proceeded to attempt to put some half-&-half into my cup. It did not appear to make the coffee look very creamy...I added a bit more. I tasted the coffee...NOT creamy at all. I asked the owner if perhaps an error had been made, since the decanter clearly read "1/2 & 1/2". No, re replied, it was the same "creamer" they always served. Then he stated the "creamer" is made using HALF half and half and half low-fat milk. I won't visit Java Jax again because I like a hot cup of coffee with cream, typically known as "half & half" (made with half cream and half whole milk). Further, deceptively labeling a decanter as "half & half" when it's no such thing is not a good business practice. It makes me wonder what else he's deceptively labeling or promoting. read more

I've been on the fence with this, and I can no longer support Java Jax. The staff is SUPER nice, but the older gentleman, whom I think may be one of the owners, can be VERY rude! And what I saw today was the last straw for me. Me and the gentleman he was rude to just looked at each other and shook our heads. It feels borderline racist at times.
