A friend introduced me to Java Jax a couple of years ago. He loved the bagel and lox and brought me here to try them out and also bought me one on a separate occasion. I remember the owner being a grouchy older man when I went. Aside from that, the bagel and lox being consistently delicious made me come back. It's been over a year since I had one! Wanting to satisfy my craving for that bagel and lox, I stopped by Java Jox for breakfast. The owner was not behind the counter today. A very pleasant woman was there to take my order. Once I ordered my bagel and lox on jalapeno bagel and paid, I took a seat at one of the empty tables. I sat for a little bit and looked out the large windows at the area. Not very long after, the cashier brought over my bagel and lox to me on a plate (Forgot to mention it was a "for here" order). Man, that bagel and lox was as good as I remembered! Every bite had the perfect amount of cream cheese, bagel, salmon, and tomato. The jalapeno bagel was nice and warm, and was split in half. I ate it all in one sitting. Thank you Java Jax!! Tried lunch here for the first time. I usually get breakfast here but wanted to switch it up. Ordered the turkey pesto sandwich on sourdough and it was pretty damn good. Tasted very fresh. Only reduction in a star would be the price. With credit card fee it was around $14 and change. Seemed a little high for a sandwich and a bag of chips but the meal overall tasted great so I don't mind. I would get the sandwich again. PS: Java Jax, bring back the Chicago Dogs PLEASE!! read more

The fresh bagel and lox was great! Everything was prepared fresh and hot! Super fast and friendly service. Java Jax has a sorta retro/old school diner vibe complete with red bartop stools. The parking situation is either street parking and their little designated lot. The lot reminds me of an apartment garage lot. So it may honestly be easier to park on the street. They also offer pastries and sandwiches. I see this more as a casual grab and go place although they do have plentiful seating. I'd come back to grab another bagel! read more

Great local coffee shop. The latte with sugar free vanilla was fantastic and I highly recommend the breakfast burrito.

At Java Jax, expect to come in, order your stuff, and get it done right. The main guy, tho seemingly grumpy actually is quite friendly under his curmudgeon demeanor. To the left, you'll see a small frame of the famous internet cat- Grumpy Cat, which was gifted to him for obvious reasons, sitting on the counter. He seemed to be amused to share that. I know I was amused he did. The two vegans ordered lattes with the non-dairy options of almond, oat and soy milks. I went with soy, the friend went with oat. We were both happy with our coffees and the ratio of espresso that was used. They welcomed personal cups, which was nice. One less piece of trash for landfill. The price was SUPER REASONABLE unlike in other parts of The Bay. It didn't appear there were any vegan pastries but to be honest, we weren't sure we would even find dairy-free options so no complaints there. We just stopped in for a quick pick-me-up before heading over to Better Chew's Kitchen's grand opening. We'll definitely stop in again the next time we're in the area. read more

I usually do not write reviews but I had to for this place! For one I ordered a breakfast bagel which to my knowledge and what was told to me by the server was that it came with eggs, bacon, and cream cheese. When I received my bagel it only had eggs and bacon!, so I ask for cream cheese and they told me it would be $1.50 more after I already paid $10 dollars for the bagel which from my understanding came with cream cheese. Also I ordered a combination smoothie which came with strawberries, bananas, and peaches, I kid you not by the time I made it home and was finishing my smoothie I seen big slices of peaches in my drink. This was my first time going here so I am unsure if they usually make it like this or not, but I will definitely not be going back and would not recommend this place!!. read more

This is a small coffee stop underneath a motel and easy to do a quick drive by. We went on a random morning and there was the only old guy, poor dude. Apparently whoever works for him didn't show up. So he was running around and there was quite a line. The menu is extensive from bagels, breakfast sandwiches, hot dogs, etc. A good spot for a quick stop if he had a full staff working maybe the service would have been faster. I've been here a few times as they are close to my house. I usually get an americano, which is usually good, but today I just got coffee (Colombian) it was watered down. I don't know if I'll be coming back but if I do, I definitely won't ever buy coffee. I'm leaving a review because a small coffee cost 2.10, but if I wanted to put it in my own cup, it is 2.50. I actually expected a discount for bringing my own cup but they wanted 40 cents more!!! I just took the paper cup and poured the coffee into my own cup and threw the paper cup in the garbage. Very wasteful. I am trying to figure out what the reason for this is but it defies logic and good business. Other than that, this is a decent place. The food is ok, nothing special or fancy but edible, the espresso drinks are good, the customer service is not bad. I've been helped by the owner and by staff, they weren't rude, but they also weren't friendly. The parking lot is convenient since it's on a busy main street. The seating is cute, indoor/outdoor-although I've never eaten in. I try to support mom and pop shops but I think I'll try a different place next time I need coffee. This place is cute, very nostalgic and conveniently located but I just can't get past the wasteful rip off, only two stars because of it. read more

Skip the chains, this place is phenomenal! I have been looking for a coffee spot that retains flavor but offers vegan friendly coffee alternatives and this spot hit me right where I needed it! Everywhere else my coffee tastes diluted or bland. Not here though! I got an iced mocha with soy milk and the flavor is addictive! The man working behind the counter was kind enough to let me know the blending mix they use isn't vegan friendly, but was happy to make me an iced one! Good thing they popped up on my search for breakfast burritos otherwise I would have never tried. Just a heads up it's not much parking here and it's on a busy street. It wasn't much of a wait at all with one person ahead of me. So once I decided on what I wanted being the breakfast burrito( no meat) and a breakfast bagel sandwich it was maybe a 5-10 minute wait before it was ready. Just a 5 min walk from my apartment my bf and I decided to stop by on our way home from the local farmers market. Usually we pass by when they're are closed so today we were happy to see we were around normal business hours. Their menu is very clear and to the point. Love that. I feel like a lot of the time at other places I'm looking and looking for their cold beverages but their menu was spot on with making it clear. It seems like they are mostly known for their drinks but they also offer food items such a pastries, sandwiches and hot dogs. I ordered a white mocha frappe, ice white mocha, and an everything bagel. Price was real affordable compared to bigger chains like Starbucks. Taste was great! I was super happy with my purchases. And the best part is they're down the street from me. Fresh lox, a soft wheat bagel, capers, onions and a chunk of cream cheese. :) It is a good thing I like bagels with my cream cheese so I actually enjoyed it served this way, but it was a just sliced off piece from a big bar of cream cheese. I actually took my sandwich apart and spread it so it covered the bagel nicely. No matter what, it still tasted great. For a quick bite to eat, it was definitely satisfying. Only complaint is the price; for the bagel lox, 20 Oz caramel frap and cinnamon bun it was a total of $17 ish. Pretty pricy in my opinion. But everything was really good, the bagel lox you can tell was made with love and care. It was very tasty. I had it with the everything bagel. They ask if you want the pastry warmed up in the microwave. They sell muffins, bagels, croissants, etc. The 2 workers there were extremely pleasant and nice. They take cash and credit. The coffee is really really bad. I got the Sumatra blend and it taste like tea. It was served scolding hot and burned me quite severely. It's severely overpriced and you have to pay for refills though it was self serve. I also ordered a salmon lox bagel which was sooo dry and the flavors were out of balance. Great coffee! I travel a lot for business and typically the only choice is the big S chain and I certainly am not an S fan. Finding these local places that sell great coffee are awesome. The coffee is super good (especially the French roast) and the service is quick and friendly. Both times I went were around 7:30 am and there were no other customers. Came here for a quick breakfast sandwich on Sunday morning 11:30am. I was the only customer at the counter and there were two ppl eating at tables inside and what looked like 2 ppl waiting for their drink orders. I had to wait about 2min straight before anyone would acknowledge me. I saw 3 staff members repeatedly walk in front of me, as well as another staff person making drinks. No one managed a "hello" or "be with u in a sec", just a bit odd for a mom and pop breakfast cafe. I was finally greeted after the barista finished the previous customers drinks. I ordered their lox bagel and bfast croissant sandwich, and an iced coffee. The food definitely wasn't something to write home about. The breakfast croissant tasted way too hot, as if it had been in the microwave. The lox bagel was the most decent thing, and consisted of lox, capers, block of cream cheese, thin slices of red onion, on toasted cheese bagel. Everything came out to $25 with tip. Stopped by Java Jax on our way to Napa. Very diverse menu and crowd. Loved seeing all the locals in their GSW gear. Friendly staff, friendly customers, straight forward menu. The pastries looked awesome, the coffee was fresh, and the hot dogs were loaded! Prices are better than the big chain places, and they're more efficient too. We ate inside, so we got to see at about 10-15 customers place their order and were on their way in only a few minutes. Overall very nice place to come have a snack and a cuppa! read more
