I love this place. I live across town, but enjoy going there on a Sunday morning or a day off. Good coffee, and even serves a Jumbo, though I wouldn't recommend that much. No free or discounted refills is a bummer, you would think with the amount of business they do they could go for that. Also, added 55 cents(?) for debit/credit card, so plan on bringing cash. Good sandwiches and soups, also have the full range of muffins, bagels and donuts you would expect. This place can be busy, but most people hav e no problem sharing a table if need be (and there often is need!). Good people and dog watching as well, as there's an outside area as well, but nothing special. Overall, the place has some charm to it that makes up for some of the bumps in the road, and keeps me coming back! read more

Amazingly delicious sandwiches that are VERY filling, yummy lemon bars and inexpensive drinks. Free wi-fi. Open late. Across from the ocean. They usually have a line out the door, but it somehow goes by quick and you get your food quick too! read more

Other than the guy in tiny shorts barely covering his crotch asking our friend for his used coffee cup sleeve (presumably to use on his own coffee cup), Java Beach Cafe is pretty cool to hang out. I live right next to java and i finally decided to go. The white mocha was rlly good, the sandwiches were full of meat, and the italian soda was very sweet. The service was nice just like any other cafe. The place is very warm, and it was nice to sit inside because it was freezing outside. The only thing is that it is very crowded, and may be hard to find a place to sit. read more

This place has a very wide selection of coffee options. I also like the seasonal variety with eggnog, mint, pumpkin etc. During peak hours, finding a seat could be a problem, but you can always take it a few blocks down and sit and watch the ocean... Ahhh that's the stuff.... read more

Cappuccino= deliciousness! The guy next to me has a sandwich and the lettuce sounds so crunchy and delicious that I want one now... Its very beachy place, so its super casual and unpretentious. I had considered studying here after work, but after coming on a weekend afternoon, I'm not sure how well-lit it is, especially the street parking after dark....It IS open until 11pm though, that's a definite perk! =] read more

When my husband and I moved out to the outer sunset we had no idea we would be greeted by the best latte's and sandwich place in S.F. The people are friendly and get to know you. Super solid beach cafe. Bagels, coffee, chai, tea, salads, sandwiches, oatmeal, granola - this spot has just about everything. The quality isn't amazing but is far from bad. I had the granola, fruit, yogurt bowl with an English Breakfast. The granola was crunchy and laced with honey. The yogurt was rich and thick. The fruit was blueberries, honeydew, cantaloupe and pineapple. I was totally impressed. The crowd is a total mix from beach bums, tourists, neighborhood locales and cops. read more

A gem reflecting the San Francisco I grew up in. Drinks are good and the food/lunch selection has been expanded. The vibe is truly laid back while still retaining cleanliness and organization. It also helps that they have a decent beer selection and a outdoor seating for the recent beach goer that is still dusting sand off his or her feet. A great spot for any Ocean Beach-goer. read more

I love this place, especially on a warm day where you can sit outside and hear the ocean. Tons of options for specialty coffee drinks and HUGE portions. I usually get a dirty chai and some form of salad. The service is always good and they are very helpful. Only downside is this place is often crowded. You order at the counter and then pick up the food yourself/seat yourself. It can sometimes be a challenge to find seating since many people stay all day getting work done. read more

I love the atmosphere of this place, especially on a calmer weekday. It's also a great place to people-watch because the customers are always eclectic, ranging from surfers to students to writers to women wearing bird-watching hats. Honestly, the coffee isn't anything exceptionally unique or spectacular, but their sandwiches are solid and the coffee is good. I don't personally recommend the chai; it's kinda lacking in flavor. But all in all, I adore this neighborhood spot for its ambiance and feel good vibes! A great place to study/work or have an intimate convo with a buddy. read more

I absolutely love this place! So much so that we came here both Saturday and Sunday to get some work and studying done. Though it can get a bit loud, the vibe is chill, seating is plentiful, and most importantly, there are outlets galore! :) I loved their vanilla latte blended drink, and the sandwiches they serve are pretty good. Alright more important than the outlets - the beach is literally across the street, and they have live music pretty regularly. Doesn't get much better than that! read more

Very very VERY disappointed in how my mother and my son was treated here today. They were kicked out because my child was being "too loud" for some customers there. My son is two, two year olds are loud and active. Such a shame I thought San Francisco was more open and accepting. read more

We walked by around 2pm and the line was around the building... we moved on (to a place up the block that was really sub-par). Later on during our San Fran visit, we took a leisurely long walk at sunset from the Golden Gate Bridge, through Presidio, Lincoln Park, and then along the coast... We walked into the cafe around 9pm to the sound of Stella Blue being played by an old hippy with an acoustic guitar. We had a sandwich, chicken coconut curry soup, a glass of red wine, and a pilsner on tap... We walked here after completing the Kaiser Half Marathon. The line was out the door (good sign in my book) and moved quick! Customer service was top notch and the coffee was great too! We grabbed coffee only to-go and there was a miscommunication in our order and this was fixed seamlessly and quickly. You cannot beat the location with close proximity to the ocean. At $4.25 for a tall Burundi, this place is definitely not for the average coffee consumer. That being said, I'm 3 sips in and can say with confidence that this is anything but an average cup of coffee. Full flavor served at a surprisingly low temperature creates a unique flavor I have yet to come across. #The best $4.25 I'll spend today. read more
