Jam doung food never disappoints I usually get the jerk chicken which is always flavorful with a great sauce. The last few visits I have and my most recent a few days ago I have been getting the jerk wings and the bbq wing. They are tender and flavorful. They are not the biggest wings but make up in flavor. They have become one of my favorite dishes. The food over all is pleasing and you will enjoy read more

Jam Doung Style - You know the food is about to be good when it's messy!! - Caribbean Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

Jam Doung Style is a Jamaican restaurant located on the corner of Randolph Place and N Capitol Street. We wondered upon this small restaurant serving Jamaican cuisine while looking for dinner. We were greeted as we entered. Reggae music was playing. Bob Marley pictures hanging in the walls. It smelled good inside. We ordered takeout at the kiosk. It was simple to place the order. Hubby orders the Beef Stew with Macaroni and Cheese with a side of Cabbage. We also ordered the Beef pie and chocolate cake and a slice of carrot cake. The older lady was thrilled that we visited them all the way from Hawaii. She wanted to come back in my suitcase..lol! They were so friendly and welcoming. Just good people. We get back to our little place about a few blocks over. The food is piping hot. Perfectly seasoned! Just what we needed after a long day. Those slices of cake were rich and delicious. We'll definitely be back before we leave on Friday. Great Jamaican food for the soul! read more

The quality of the food has definitely declined over the years. My jerk chicken entree was very dry as if it has been sitting all day. I ordered a large and received mostly cabbage. The chicken was shredded almost. read more

Love the Oxtails and curry goat! The only downside is hard to find parking and they forgot my beef patty other than that food is so good!

This place is well deserving of your love and support. These ladies are some of the hardest working women I have ever seen. I watched them work from a small cramped area with no seating to this beautiful dining experience. The food is great and the portions are well worth the price you pay. Compared to other restaurants in the DMV area where the food is not as good, in my opinion, charge considerably more for the same food and it's not as good as the food here. These ladies and their staff put a lot of love in their food and the service is great as well. The ladies on the register are always friendly and greet you with a smile. We need to show these ladies that they're loved and appreciated in the community and let's show our support. Gotta get out of here time to pick up my order of Ox Tails. read more

An authentic slice of DC by way of Jamaica. Great neighborhood atmosphere and friendly service! Nice portions too!

First time having jerk wings and it was amazing so good I went back the following week for more. Always a line be prepared for a little wait

Again, against my better judgement. I ordered online and waited until I received the "ready" alert to my phone. I walked in to angry food drivers waiting. I also waited and waited and waited. The woman on the register was rude and not friendly, the woman who eventually came from the kitchen area to get food orders out was equally nonchalant and rude. I will eat grass from my front yard before I patronized this "Angry Black Owned Business." Get it together Black people!! read more

This is a unassuming small restaurant that you might just drive by, but don't miss out for amazing Jamaican food! They do accept credit card here over $10, so plan accordingly. Due to COVID-19 precautions, they are only allowing 2 people in at once. We called ahead at 6 PM on a Tuesday (had to call several times consecutively because they were probably busy with orders) and they only had ONE brown stew chicken special left (only $6.50 for a whole meal not including tax!!) and no more Jamaican Jerk chicken -- by the time we arrived, they were mostly out of all specials. If you want to make sure you get what you want, come EARLY! You get a LOT for one meal-- a flavorful mix of chicken, spices, rice along with a side of cooked cabbage. It is the ultimate in comfort food, especially on a cold night. read more

Jam Doung Style - Brown Stew Chicken - Caribbean Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

This is a Jamaican restaurant in the beautiful neighborhood of Bloomingdale in NW DC. It's a small and low key restaurant, they do not have dine in so I definitely recommend you to order in advance so that your food will ready usually in 10 minutes from when you placed your order. Firstly, they have daily special which is usually a brown stew chicken with rice and peas and comes with a choice of soda. Definitely ask for their daily specials. Secondly, they have a special pricing during lunch hour between 11am to 1pm. Also, check out their combination platter. My favorites are their curry goat, brown stew chicken, fried plantains and sweet potato cake. This platter would cost you around $19 to $20. Totally worth it as it usually spans across two meals for me. The portion size is amazing. Definitely recommend asking for their hot sauce if you can handle Jamaican spice. It's extremely spicy but very delicious. So try it at your own risk. read more

Not too good. Thrown together. A bit surprising as someone recommended the food. If order again I will get only one entree.

Service was shit, too long of a wait, Brown stew chicken with no sauce, half scoop of rice, dry Mac n cheese, crispy pattt

I actually came out of my way to try this place - Food reminded me of my trip to Jamaica a few years ago. I'd definitely eat here again if I were in the area and had a hankering for Jamaican food. Don't come expecting a 5 star restaurant. It's a tiny (blink and you'll miss it), restaurant that isn't easy on the eyes. The line of people standing outside should help you locate it. Due to Covid protocol, they can only have 2 people in at a time but they move the orders through quickly. I ordered the medium oxtail and the small curry chicken special. Entrees came with sides of rice and peas and cabbage- the cabbage was outstanding and seasoned perfectly, better than I've ever had. Oxtails are my favorite (don't care how high the price for them go up, I'll always order them) but these didn't knock my socks off- the gravy made up for it. Rice and peas were the standard preparation. As someone from the Islands, I can confirm this is a solid spot. read more

The food was decent but I've had better Jamaican. There was something off about the rice but I can't put my finger on it. Jerk Chicken was good and the Oxtails was decent. There was a reasonable price for the Jerk Chicken but the size and the amount of the Ox Tails was disrespectful lol. read more

I've ordered from Jam Doung Style twice now, but know that I will keep coming back. The first time I ordered the brown stew chicken with cabbage, rice and pea and a side of plantains. The chicken was fall-off-the-bone tender and flavorful, while the cabbage was perfectly shredded and reminded me of my own. The plantains were delicious and I figured it couldn't get better. However, I recently ordered through UberEats and they blew me away! Roughly just over an hour before the restaurant closed, I ordered a combo meal with jerk and curry, chicken, rice and peas, Mac & cheese and cabbage. I also ordered a similar meal for my son. We also ordered cocoa bread, a beef patty and plantains. I received a phone call from the restaurant within two minutes of ordering, to let me know that they were out of plantains. The sweet lady I spoke with asked if I would like an additional beef patty to which I said yes. To my surprise, an order of plantains were in my bag when the food arrived! I was so happy I called the restaurant back to thank them. Then we ate... Oh my!! The food reminded me of a home cooked meal I had when visiting Jamaica many years ago. Where do I start?? The plantains were perfectly ripe with caramelized edges and the tender jerk chicken was perfectly spiced. The curry chicken literally fell off the bone...Everything, and I do mean everything, was perfect, including the Mac & cheese! The portions are huge and I had my leftovers for breakfast the following day. Jam Doung is well worth a visit. Try them, you will not be disappointed! read more

Absolutely love the food here. Got the goat curry and some coco bread this time and it was amazing. My only regret is this is my go to oxtail place and it wasn't available for whatever reason and the normal beef patties were off the menu. Not sure if it is a general shortage or I just got there too late. Still delicious either way. read more

What can I say!!! This place is simply wonderful!! When you walk in, you're greeted by the most caring and welcoming staff! Mommy and Grace made me feel so special and taken care of. Now the food.... This is my second time coming here and certainly will be coming back more often. A very well run establishment with exceptional service and food! read more

the food is amazing let me start out with that statement. To show that I'm not bashing the company but I'm completely disappointed dissatisfied and every other synonym to describe being let down. This did not disappoint. I attempted to get food the day before and everything I ordered online was sold out. That, to me, is indicative of fresh food being prepared daily. I knew I had to try again the following day...and did! I got oxtails with rice and peas and cabbage, along with the butter rum cake and a beef patty. Ooooh child! It was worth the wait. Everything was great. I can't wait to return to try more. I gave them a 4 out of 5 because parking is horrendous. read more

I decided to try this spot yesterday due to the reasonable reviews. I don't think my experience was a one off, this just isn't good food lol, like at all. I would hate to think that so many people don't know what good Jamaican food tastes like. I got a brown stew dinner and wings. The rice was so mushy and overcooked. It was like mashed potatoes. The cabbage was okay but tasted like straight MSG. The brown stew chicken itself was fine. The taste was pretty good and the chicken was tender. The wings, taste was also okay but some of the pieces were hard. In all, wouldn't return and deeply regret spending my money here, respectfully. However the young lady in the front was very sweet. I think that should've been my first indication. If the lady at the front at a Jamaican spot isn't mean, the food will not be good LOL. read more

I ordered from here via Postmates because my friend told me it's supposed to be one of the best Jamaican takeout in DC. It was pretty good but there wasn't a "wow factor". I had to get full off the cabbage/rice & beans. read more

First time here after hearing "great" things. But 1st impression will be the last!! How are you a Jamaican Restaurant and at 2p you do not have OxTails nor do you have Dark Meat for the Jerk Chicken.... After waiting 18 minutes to place my order and then waiting another 15 to be called and informed they ran out of Oxtails and it's only 2p (huh) so I guess when you opened at 11a you sold the oxtails from the day before??? Oh!! When I informed the cashier that I just wanted a refund that was another 20 minutes of the Owner hiding and not coming out until the Cashier begged her to please handle my refund!! Wtf!! Then the Manager finally shows her face to inform that it takes awhile to cook the OxTails, at this point I could care less, I just want my refund!! So DISAPPOINTED that this place turned out to be like this!! I am a Native Washingtonian and I try to support Black Owned businesses in my city but how do they treat US back???? read more

I honestly don't understand the negative reviews because my experiences with takeout from Jam Doung Style have been nothing but positive. The jerk chicken with rice, peas, and mac and cheese, and the curry chicken with the same sides are some of the best Jamaican dishes I've had in the DC area. The seasoning is always on point, and the quality has been consistent every time I've ordered. I was too hungry and enticed to take a picture before inhaling the food--it's just that good! read more

Jam Doug Style was my first takeout order for the New Year, and I am pleased. I ordered oxtail with rice & peas, Mac & Cheese, & Cabbage for my designated cheat day; and the food hit the spot. This was my first experience after reading the Yelp reviews. You will not be disappointed! Authentic Jamaican EVERYTHING was delicious and the portions were worth every penny. The cashier was so welcoming and helpful (sorry that I left a review but I don't think you'll mind this one). I felt like they've been seeing me come there for years. Stop the madness!!! This food was beyond good. I literally just ordered the curry chicken lunch special and and the jerk chicken medium size two beef patties and a Ting. It was fabulous and I will be eating there again tomorrow. Not only was the food absolutely delicious but the service was on point and fast. I read the reviews before going and there is no way that some of these lower star reviews reflect the service, food quality, and portion sizes mentioned. Not going to lie I was a little concerned, but knew I had to try it for myself and I'm glad I did. There was a line that moved quickly. I ordered from the self service kiosk in the restaurant around 12:30 pm. It was easy and when I had a question about my ticket three employees helped me gladly, kindly, and without incident. They were all very nice positive and moved with urgency. (Tall woman, a man, and a young lady with glasses) Try this place you won't be disappointed! read more

What a great, friendly, and inviting restaurant. The food was absolutely fire. My girl and I ordered the oxtail with mac and cheese and cabbage. I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and peas, and cabbage. We also ordered a beef patty, coco bread, a side of fried sweet plantains, a guava ginger fresh juice, and a pineapple ginger fresh juice. The portions are very generous- we brought half of the food home. The oxtail was succulent and nicely seasoned, with a sweet hint to it. The mac and cheese was just the perfect amount of cheesy and not greasy at all, with a golden oven-baked top. Unlike other Jamaican restaurants I've been to, Jam Doung Style slices their cabbage into a nice chiffonade, which is a nice touch and makes it easier to eat. Their jerk chicken was a little more chopped up than I'm used to, so you have to watch out for the little pieces of bones a bit more. But that didn't matter much because the chicken was perfectly seasoned with a lovely hint of scotch bonnet coating each bite. The rice and peas were fluffy and tender. They ended up being out of the beef patties, so they gave us a chicken one instead- it was flaky and had a subtle kick to it. The pineapple ginger juice was my favorite - a nice balance of fresh fruit and sweetness. Overall, this is the best Jamaican food I've had in DC. Can't wait to go back and try other items on their menu, including their beef patty. read more

Really solid Caribbean option in DC! We came here before a concert at the Capitol One Arena and was pleasantly surprised at how busy this place was. They had a consistent stream of people coming in for take out, as there wasn't much seating inside the restaurant itself. The plates are reasonably priced and had great portions! I got the curry goat and my companions got the oxtail. We all agreed that while the flavors were there, the meat was a little small & bony and wasn't cooked enough so it was a little tough. Still hits the spot though - we will be back next time we're in the area! read more

The cabbage is nasty and the mac cheese is basic. They just melt some more cheese on top to give the look of southern mac and cheese. The jerk chile I'm gonna post this pic and let y'all decide. I've had way better. The one star is for how quickly the food came but they didn't deliver it so 0 starts . Do better. I work HARD for my money and this wasn't worth it. read more
