    Cleaning. While dining. Not ideal.

Ok really 4.5. Food is 5 star. Absolutely outstanding. I've been looking for a great Indian place in Brooklyn for 30 years--I finally found it. Why not 5 stars? I walked into a dining room covered in drop cloths and paint cans. The staff is more interested in paint samples and cleaning rather than service. No one asked me how everything was (fantastic). It's freezing, never took off my coat. Waiting for someone to come over so I can pack up my leftovers and pay. For awhile. That being said, I dream about the palak chat. It's truly amazing. Butter chicken and lamb korma fantastic. Garlic rosemary naan--yum. The only disappointment has been the samosa. And the ambience. Granted it is 3pm, so maybe proper dining hours would be better. I'll get takeout next time...

So I was near by with a friend and he wanted some Lena is around Brighton but I was able to talking into this place that I yelped . The menu seemed to have a huge variety and dishes from all over and all the ones I prefer when I go to an Indian place. And OHHHHHH MAN THIS PLACE DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!!!! My friend was so glad we picked this place over the others that we had to fight for the left overs which I am currently eating for breakfast yes breakfast !!! So when we came in we were the first to be in this place at 530 time. But this place quickly filled up and was full within 30-40 minutes after we came . The service was amazing but the funny fact is that all tables were taken care of of by just one really attentive employee or possibly the owner. She was great accommodating , took time to speak , explain, never out of water, food was being served fast, hot and one of the best services I had in a while . The food was also being brought out by the server and maybe the other owner and chef . Now the best part you all want to and need to hear about . If you want good and real authentic Indian food you will not go wrong with this place I Guarantee you ! We ordered 7 dishes and each and everyone of them we would definitely order again . Anywhere I go Briyani is a must for me and this hyderbadi goat was as real as it gets and is now my go to place when I am in Brooklyn . I have my spots in city , li, and queens and I now found my Brooklyn spot !! WOW PEOPLE JUST WOW. Even after we took out leftovers out the pot the serve it in the spot smelled amazing as well. That was my favorite dish but I had a tie for first with 2 more . The tikka masala kathi roll was a perfect on the go snack , lunch , breakfast you name it . But packed with so much flavor the saucer and chicken we were going to order 2 to go but decided to relax since we just had spa and gym day . And the third was the lamb samosas . The flavor, dough texture , did I mention flavor ? Yeah it was the best samosa I ever had period of any Indian places I ate and I have ate at many . Other dishes would easily be in first place if I had to choose those I would Get again today . And the tikka masala was perfect with the sauce on point with a mild hint to it was great . The mix grill platter was good, the fried spinach dish which is there main item that gets ordered was really good I just try to stay away from fried , the mango lassi is always must to get at any Indian places. But I'd give this place a 10 if I could everything about it is and was on point

Jalsa is like a hidden gem! It's so spacious and homey inside, and the food is delicious and filling. We came in hungry and ordered two dosas between three of us, but take a good look at the photos and the size of these bad boys before you decide to do the same. They're huge, but so delicious, crispy, and starchy. The sauces pair so well with it, and they're just FUN. I only wish they had more filling to make a better dosa to filling ratio, but I highly recommend the masala one. I wish I got a photo but the stand out and the reason why this is 5 stars is the vegetable samosa chaat. I have never even had chaat before in my life, and that was a grave error because that dish was so insanely good I'm still thinking about it. And the fact that we got to eat it with pieces of the humongous dosa just elevated it even more. We also ordered a chicken tikka masala and a saag paneer-- both excellent, with garlic and rosemary naan. I could eat this naan as a meal. So garlicky and flavorful and fluffy and all the adjectives you want in a naan. If you're craving Indian, definitely come by!

We needed instructions as to how to attack the dosa

10 stars if I could!! Aside from the most delicious food you will ever eat, the vibe is GENUINE. Swanky people can stay home. Jalsa is obviously family owned and unpretentious. Super sweet staff will assist with your every need Our group of 5 were lead to a rear banquet hall and the hostess had to turn on the light and air conditioning for us. Uh oh we thought - this is weird. One of our chairs was wiggly and it was changed out. We stuck with it, opened the menu and had an animated discussion of what to order - the offerings are vast and not your typical fare - we had to ask what several things were. Huge selection of vegetarian and vegan offerings. We ordered 4 appetizers for the 5 of us and appreciated that they came out one at a time - we had ample time to savor and discuss each one. The dosa is epic! The sweet hostess instructed us novices on how to eat it. The main dishes/rice/sauces were brought to the table by a robot - how else could all this food be delivered at the same time? More and more groups came in throughout the evening and we noticed other groups in the other room (the place is quite large). You will be pleasantly surprised by the bill. This is BYOB which helps in this era of soaring prices. - we loved that it is located on un-gentrified Coney Island Avenue - we loved that the B68 bus stops right in front - we loved that it is next to an auto body shop - we loved that you can see into the kitchen - we loved the wiggly chair - we loved the robot - we loved the staff - we loved the bill - most of all we loved the food Go to Jalsa and have a very memorable experience!

Arrived for dinner and there was street parking. The entrance is huge is spacious. The dining section was a bit smaller than expected, but with nice covered tables and chairs. We wanted to try a lot of things from the menu and so we ordered the cheese dosa, which was very tasty and came with 3 different dipping sauce. The texture was amazing and crispy and a bit of a chew from the cheese, the cheese wasn't a strong cheese either. The pani puri was so light and crispy and lovely with a sweet, and sour water mixture to add on. I really enjoy the pani puri, always fun to eat. The chicken biryani was flavorful and fluffy, but a bit dry, but what surprised me was the naan that covered it, it soaked the tiger shrimp curry so nicely. The curry was flavorful, a bit too sweet, but still very tasty. The lamb chops were good and still slightly pink on the sizzling pan, there was an outer layer which was soft that I didn't enjoy, but it was tender and tasty. The service was attentive when needed. Overall a great dinner with friends.

    Masala dosa - superb!

I have been trying to find a decent delicious Indian restaurant in Brooklyn for awhile. I am so happy because I have found it here! This place was recommended to us from a friend. We were so hungry so I ordered a lot of foods to try! The foods we ordered were: 1) paalak chaat, 2) dahi puri, 3) masala dosa, 4) yellow daal curry, 5) butter shrimp, 6) garlic naan, 7) chicken dum biryani, 8) mango lassi. Paalak (Spinach) Chaat - Highly Highly recommend this item! So damn delicious & it was packed with so much textures and taste. I would reorder this in a heartbeat! SUPERB! Dahi Puri - This was delicious & also packed with so much taste. It can get messy eating this because once you bite into it, the yogurt concoction squirts out. And also, you have to eat it right away or else the shell outside becomes soggy. *Because yogurt is filling, this appetizer made us full & this was the 2nd item that came (and we had 5 more food items to try). Masala Dosa - SUPERB! I would reorder this! The dosa was so crunchy and delicious + the masala potato concoction inside the dosa was so savory + packed with flavor. The side dips complemented the dosa well + was very enjoyable. Yellow Daal Curry - I looovee daal & Jalsa did a great job making this. It was so savory & packed w/ so many flavors. Eating this w/ basmati rice or garlic naan was so enjoyable! The yellow daal was not spicy. Butter Shrimp - WOW! The flavor of the butter shrimp was amazing + it was packed w/ so much diff taste. There was 4 piece of al dente shrimp + it was enjoyable. This was also not spicy. Garlic Naan - The naan was super garlicky and soft. I enjoyed this dipping w/ the curries! YUM! Chicken Dum Biryani - We were so full + did not even attempt to eat this item. We took this item to go & made this for dinner the next day. It was very soo savory & delicious w/ diff spices & flavors! It had very mild spice - would had wanted it to a bit more spicier (for excitement). The naan bread they covered the biryani w/ was soggy, but after air frying it, the naan was so delicious because it was crunchier & saturated w/ all the chicken biryani flavors. YUM! I would reorder this & ask for it to be made more spicier. Mango Lassi - Delicious! You taste the mango flavor + the thickness of the yogurt. This is some legit mango lassi, not the watered down ones some restaurants give you. Staff was super friendly and attentive. Loved the decor - it was quite romantic especially if you are having a date night. The place was very spacious & food came out pretty fast. We will be happily back soon! Thanks for the delicious foods! Next time, I will ask for more spices in the food so it would be more exciting.

I'm a long islander and prior to today have not attempted to try any Indian place in Brooklyn. Boy am I glad we decided to try this place. Order was: Chicken tikka regular Chicken tikka spicy palak paneer Palak chaat Garlic naan Onion kulcha Chicken jalfrezi Tandoori ghost chicken Yellow rice x2 White rice First of they give you some kind of side sauces which are delicious but for me what stood out was the palak chaat. This was an entirely new experience and amazing and unexpected in its flavor combination. I won't go into details about the other dishes but I believe will suffice to say they were all as delectable as we'd had hoped. Ghost pepper tandoori chicken for me was a bit light on spice, but then again I love heat and lots of it. Some of the dishes had whole pieces of seasoning in them which was strange, but didn't reduce the enjoyment. Order was ready pretty much on time and the staff were friendly and attentive. It did take a few moments to get someone to address us for the pickup but that was because they were busy and busy is good. In short, you won't be disappointed

There's not much to say but DAMN. Best kept secret in Brooklyn. Awesome Indian food! I've walked past this place so many times and never thought to try it. I'm glad I finally did. Everything was really tasty. The seafood curry (chingri malaikari) was my favorite. The butter chicken was awesome. The chicken tandooori is a must. The garlic naan here is my favorite naan I've ever had. The lamb samosas were also great. They bring you a bunch of different sauces too. And the guava juice was amazing too. I'll definitely be back!

We started with samosas, two types; vegetable and chicken. These savory pastries were packed with well season veggies and chicken. The crust was light, flaky and perfectly crispy. The Lamb shanks was so tender, the meat fell of the bone. The spinach and paneer, a homemade cheese, paired well with the shank and vegetable fried rice. This spicy concoction cut through the heaviness of the meat dishes like a butter knife. The combination of flavors complimented each other and balanced the meal perfectly. The chai tea is a must. The original, smells and tastes like warm caramel. The "Kashmir chai" is an acquired taste. Less flavor intense than the regular chai but the pretty pink color adorned with shaved pistachio was a hit for the kids. If you still have room, carrot pudding, basil seed sherbet, assorted fudge and sweets are at your fingertips. Prices are reasonable, won't break the bank. I guarantee you will enjoy the experience.

A true institution in Little Pakistan, Lahori Chilli is an iconic restaurant nestled in the very busy row of neighborhood staples off of Foster Ave. This is a no-frills place serving up every day Pakistani cuisine in a Homey setting. There are booths for your comfort or an adjacent dining hall if you're here with family. They have some hot items almost every day that you can choose from, visible through the greasy glass of the display case. The sweets here are very very good, I particularly enjoy their falooda. Recently also sampled their gulab jamun, and they were to die for. Another dish they are super well known for is their battered masala fish fillet. This is something you have to dine in for to truly appreciate. It comes piping hot, crispy, and with just the perfect amount of masala dusting on top. A true culinary gem if you ask me. It has no bones and the crispy batter is the lightly crunchy without being super oily or greasy like a lot of other fried fish. The fish inside is moist, has no smell and is flaky. It is absolute perfection. Other things I absolutely love on their menu are their chicken seekh kababs and their kofta curry. Those two are usually my go to when I'm ordering food to go or delivery. I do want to give some feedback on a few things though. First of all, it's a little annoying that all the meat dishes are chicken only like I would like to see beef or lamb chapli kabab and seekh kabab. Why is the keema aloo chicken only? I wanna see lamb keema and beef keema on the menu. I also have noticed with some of the items that are in the buffet, they can have that smell sometimes that tells you that the food has been sitting out and not kept at the recommended temperature. A lot of food I order from the glass case goes bad the next day. I need the owner to implement better food safety. We also need more cleanliness around the dining area and spruce up the entrance a bit so people who are not local and privvy to desi food can have a clean and quality hole in the wall dining experience. Either way this restaurant is a place that I continue to frequent year after year. Thank you for feeding and nourishing this community.

We ordered the sweet and sour eggplant as an appetizer and struggled over decision paralysis before settling on chicken tikka masala and a mango lassi for her and lamb vindaloo for me, plus a bread basket. Our waitress, seemingly oblivious to the notion of profit, warned us we were ordering too much bread before saying, "You could always bring some home," and explaining that the bread basket would consist of our choice of four different naan. More decision paralysis! We picked plain, garlic, onion, and peshwari naan. The eggplant was good, breaded and fried and served with cilantro and tamarind chutneys. Our entrees came out soon after we finished. My girlfriend enjoyed her chicken, and my lamb was tender and spicy without being overwhelmingly so. Each entree was accompanied by a portion of basmati jeera, and the rice was perfectly cooked. The naan were all good, and my girlfriend and I both agreed the peshwari naan was the winner of the pack. The sweet, nutty bread complimented and contrasted the spicy curry of my lamb vindaloo, and my "best bite" was mopping up some of the sauce with it. Sure enough, we had leftovers both of our entrees and 3/4 pieces of naan (two guesses as to which got eaten on the spot), and lunch the next day was delicious. Stumbling distance from the 7 Ave F/G.

Lots of smiles and very welcoming. Now for the food: we ordered Lamb Vindaloo and Chicken Saag (two of my favorite Indian dishes). We also ordered, Samosas, Tandoori Mixed Grill and an assorted Naan platter. Mango Lassi as well. The entrees were good; I've had much better. I know Indian cuisine varies from region to region, household to household, so there'll always be variations in traditional dishes from restaurant to restaurant. Lots of favorable reviews on Yelp for this establishment, so it comes down to personal taste, and this didn't quite ring the bell for me. The Tandoori mixed grill was, well...I'm pretty sure leftover from the day before and reheated--at least portions of it (the chicken, for sure). There was Salmon included (not typical in a mixed grill). Samosas arrived still cold inside, which tells me they were either frozen or made a day or two in advance, or worse yet, not made on the premises and bought from a restaurant supply. Whichever, they were passable at best. The Naan was good, for the most part. The onion Naan was disappointing (onions were minced and only sweated, which made the bread too sweet. The onions should be caramelized). Overall, although the food left a lot to be desired, I enjoyed the dining experience. It's a comfortable place and the staff are very nice. But, that said, it always comes down to the main event--the food.
