A little unassuming spot with delicious food. The environment inside is not the greatest. There's a few tables and it's pretty dim inside. I would skip the dine in and just order takeout. They have a great lunch special that is about $13 comes with your choice of entree + rice + naan. We came right when they opened so they made the food fresh. The rice was so fluffy and the naan was delicious. The goat curry was ok but the chicken tikki masala was really delicious. The food is so flavorful, fragrant, and feels like a hug. I've came back here twice because I've wanted a meal that feels like it was made in a home for an affordable price. The man who runs the business is friendly, professional, and always kind. No issues with the food or service, and food comes out promptly. I didn't take any pictures but I got the vegetable soup and house salad ( I recommend both for an appetizer ) and the butter chicken. Based on the reviews, I've decided to try out this place since I'm in the area. I walked in and the restaurant needs a bit of a renovation. It was dim and a bit rundown. I looked all over the menu and didn't find the lunch special. I had to ask staff and picked out what was offered. Also, it was $13. I settled for the lamb curry which was tasty, but not mind-blowing; it came with rice and naan. The naan with it was really tasty and soaked up all the sauce. The chicken tikka masala was a bit too sweet. Also, there were specks of hard black pieces which wasn't a seasoning, looks like it's from a cracked pan; had to spit it out. Lastly, I ordered the lamb biryani and it was just ok. Also, the prices from the menu aren't the same and I didn't get a receipt until my ordered was given to me. read more

saag aloo is great- i usually get saag paneer but wanted to switch it up and the flavor is amazing. it's somehow even more buttery and vibrant than other versions i've had! i got plain naan too which was fantastic, this is probably the best naan i've ever had because it was perfectly crispy. so simple but very good. read more

I've ordered from this establishment many times and it's usually top notch but it usually gets delivered via Uber Eats. They are now delivering using staff and unfortunately one of my meals arrived cracked open with chunks of meat swimming in the bag. While it's not the most amazing selection of Indian food, it's quite satisfying, and they get additional kudos for cuisine that appeals to my one-year-old baby! Delivery was also convenient and timely. Thumbs up: - Pillowy soft, delicious naan. The garlic naan can be a bit overwhelming though - if you order it, plan to eat it as an appetizer by itself. When paired with sauces and stews, it can be a bit intense. - Chicken Tandoori - well-seasoned, tender, delicious. The seasoning is all the way to the bone! - Chana Saag - if you like chickpeas & spinach, this is for you. Goes well with plain naan. - Peas Pullao - great seasoned basmati rice foundation with which to eat any entree. Concern: I had ordered the Shrimp Korma, only to be sent the Shrimp Curry. I love Ashoka Grill! I order for delivery and takeout from here often. The quality of the food is great. Their garlic naan is one of my favorites and I absolutely love the vegetable spring rolls. They have a nice flavor and slight kick to them. The chicken tikka masala is delicious. I always ask for it extra spicy and they sure do know how to deliver. I also order the seafood curry with shrimp, which is also amazing and comes very spicy, per request. I once accidentally ordered the Goan shrimp curry and was so disappointed to have all those coconut flakes in my dish. I had hoped for my 1000th review to write about a 5 star find but unfortunately I can't. I tried three dishes which I took out from Ashoka with some friends from India. We were all disappointed. The best of the three was the Lamb Jalfarezi which had a nice smokey flavor. It was the only dish of the three that we enjoyed and finished. The lamb vindaloo was very spicy but lacked the subtle flavor of a well made vindaloo sauce. It was like tasting straight hot sauce. The chicken korma was poorly seasoned and had an after taste. It was in our collective opinion not well made. It reminded me of school cafeteria chicken ala king - not a particularly good thing. Overall the food was seasoned more like Bengali food than Indian food. The accompanying green and tamarind sauces were very watery (see photo) and smelled old. You need to visit Ashoka Grill! This place is still the #1 Indian restaurant in my list. I was never a fan of Indian cuisine and this place turned me into a Indian food lover. I gave this a try because I happened to be in the neighborhood. This restaurant has so many good reviews so I figured a try wouldn't hurt. I went in without expectation and left mind-blowing. It was a nice winter weekend and this place was quiet. We were the only table but shortly few more patrons came. We had the lunch special and they were definitely a bargain. Lunch set came with rice and naan (not just one but BOTH!!!) and a generous portion of curry. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala and it was so aromatic and flavorful. I didn't want to enter as looks like a dirty storage area things are on top of each other. Mopad guys with helmets n park rite next to u as there r 3 tiny tables in the front. Whole area is open so you have to eat right in the open with july humidity. I am a Punjabi Indian & know very well how good Indian food taste like. Level 1-10 it's 0 not even 1. Pls try for yourself if you don't trust me. If we r talking about staff in this place. There is a 80 year old man who answers phone calls, bring food to the table, bring delivery orders, take orders on phone n in person who will dare enter that place as I was stupid to do it. Another staff member would be the chef. I saw their b rating as it's so dirty people got food poisoning I read those reviews. would have been forgiving if the food turned out to be amazing. They want to charge same or higher like their competitors but provide 0 service n disgusting food. I will warn especially Punjabi food lovers please never order or eat in because it's that bad!!!! I'm so upset that I have driven past this place hundreds of times and only decided to give it a try at this late stage in my life. My boyfriend and I agreed - this was the best Indian food we've ever had at this price point. He said it was the best Indian food he's ever had in his life. Please note: the boyfriend spent a decent portion of his childhood in Jackson Heights. Personally, I also love Chola in midtown Manhattan. Ashoka Grill is comparable (equally delicious) but at a fraction of the cost. We originally planned on dining in but there was no air conditioning. Our food was well packaged in a to-go bag and the portions were generous enough to split our leftovers into lunch for the following day. This all took place a few nights ago but the deliciousness has come up with enough regularity over the past few days that it deserved a review. Today, we argued about whose dish was more delicious. Ok, so I tried to order food from this restaurant online tonight 6-3-23. www.ashokagrills.com. Their website led me into simplemenus to complete payment. After I paid I waited about 20 minutes for a confirmation email. When I called the restaurant, they informed me they don't do business with simple menus. I told them I don't either, but their site had led me into that platform. The owner didn't take any accountability for the website issue. Now, I have to chase whoever simplemenus is to get my money back. Worst of all, it was late, so I missed a chance to order food somewhere else. Maybe the food is good if you go there, but if you try to order online you'll be on the Ashoka diet since the food never shows up. Honestly, I really love this place. I've been ordering their food for delivery for the last year and a half. It is my go-to. Their lunch specials are awesome and even if it seems pricey, the portions are more than enough to feel full from! I ABSOLUTELY love their Chicken Tikka Masala. I literally dream about it. No other place compares. However, I am not overly familiar with Indian food and can't speak on authenticity or how close it is to other tikka masala but it is AMAZING regardless. Living in south Brooklyn, we don't have authentic Indian food locally. We ordered from Ashoka Grill and while the food is tasty, the charges for what you get does not match. We ordered lamb vindaloo and chicken masala and what we received was 4-5 lamb cubes in a sauce with a ton of potatoes and dried out chicken breast cubes in a tikki masala sauce for a whopping 50 bucks!!!!!! I've always been a fan of this spot for Indian food. I came here recently and had the lambs saag and lamb madras with garlic naan. I've also had the chicken vindaloo and mango lassi. This place has always been consistently good with their flavors. I normally have delivery or pickup. For the 1st time I ate in and service was good. They were attentive, brought food quickly and checked to make sure that we were doing OK. The saag was delicious and so fresh. I could have done without the bland rice pudding at the end. As someone who has lived in this area for her entire life - I must tell you that I love Ashoka Grill. I live even closer to them now and have the opportunity to walk by often....My son and I are often tempted to just pop in for some quick samosas as an afternoon treat... although we are HUGE fans of their Chicken and Lamb Biryani... the lamb being my Mum's fav... it's just about all that we order each time (along with some appetizers/salad/naan/etc).. although I've had many of their other dishes. Even when I just pop in for samosas....the head waiter/manager always sits me down like I'm family... brings me some papadum and a little mango lassi while I wait.. It's so lovely to be treated warmly...for a simple take out order. Their naans are fluffy.... meats are well seasoned... Tandoori chicken is juicy..never dry!. Poori bread is perfect......chutneys...and sauces are bright.. I always get extra tamarind sauce.. :) I can easily spend $50 to $60 here weekly if I allowed myself... Good Indian is hard to find... so even though it may seem unassuming from the outside - you won't regret coming in....or ordering for delivery.
