Came here for a quick lunch with my wife. Didn't realize there was an Indian place. I wanted to try pani puri so badly. I saw that they serve it here so we went inside. The staff is friendly, the place is very dark. Almost too dark, it was around 2pm but inside the restaurant it was 11pm. We were seated quickly, no other patrons at the time. I requested the pani puri but was told they are out for the day. This was why I wanted to come but the waiter recommended something else. We placed our order and the complimentary chips and dips arrived. Sweet and light, paired with these fennel chips. The food started coming out, the star of the show was the tandoori chicken! Wow, it was like a hot sizzling skillet coming out of the kitchen. Reminiscent of that famous place that did fajitas. Anyways this tandoori chicken was so hot, so tender, so flavorful, so perfect. I only wish there was more. I strongly recommend this one. The tikka masala was also great, the sauce and garlic naan combo is elite. They gave us a huge side of rice to share but we left so much. We are definitely coming back. I'm surprised no one was there, the server told me they've been around for 10 years if I remember correctly. I was walking around Atlantic Avenue, looking for a traditional Indian place after numerous attempts and many letdowns I stumbled across masala Grill, upon arrival I was immediately astounded by a very welcoming staff and a traditional Indian restaurant environment. The menu is extremely diverse and they have many options for anybody with many different taste and the service I received from ANTOR was impeccable. Definitely will try again 10 out of 10. read more

Ordered some apps to go. Needed a snack on my way home. I ordered chicken Samosas, chicken pakoras, and cheese Naan. The chicken pakoras were surprising. They were whole chicken breast chunks covered in a pakora batter. They also had a nice little kick. The cheese naan was nice and soft. The chicken samosas were spicy with a nice flavor but were so dry. The chicken filling inside was dry and crumbly which made it a mess to eat. I called ahead for pick up. However when I got to the restaurant I had to sit and wait an extra 35 minutes for my food. I almost missed my train. So make sure you're not in a rush when you order from here. The guy at the counter was nice and polite. I would definitely try something else from here, but I would try their dine-in experience next time. read more

This is simply an excellent restaurant.... We found it accidentally because we were on our way to an (absolutely amazing) event at Roulette and lo and behold, right down the block was an Indian restaurant full of people....so why not try it ? And we did, and the service was friendly and attentive, the food -- we had butter chicken, navratan korma and coconut samosas, the last because who has ever heard of coconut samosas ?? I loved the butter chicken and my companion's Navratan Korma was really delicious. The coconut samosas could not have had more coconut in them so if you like coconut, this is for you. The prices are very reasonable and the service was prompt, something one always wants before a concert. When we got to that concert, by the way, on hearing where we had eaten, friends said, "Oh, we eat there all the time, we'd have recommended it to you." This is actually my second time here, so far I have not a single complaint to write about . And as a Bangladeshi I feel proud that a Bangladeshi owned business doing such an excellent job running this place. I came right after my son's graduation ceremony at Barclays. We were all so tired & real hungry. We got lucky that my parents are here to see my son graduation ceremony! And we have no other family here, so I wanted to make my son feel special with all of here together. Also took one of his closest friend with us ! The food was really great, Altho Bangladeshi food are spicy but because of the location I do understand why they have to changed it up a spices! The service was excellent. Very polite, helpful, informative; even my dad was happy with the service! Because the place is small I did call 10 min before just to make sure we have a seat for 5 people. And at first they were saying it will be tight but I told them it's raining and we had been here at Barclays all day on this heat & my family is tired & hungry. We need to seat down & eat lol. Because there were not much halal restaurants nearby where you actually can seat down . They did made the accommodation & we all much appreciated their efforts ! My son's friend is Mexican & he loved the food . Especially mango lassi, me personally love my regular lassi but I tried some from my son & I gotta say it was delicious. Btw, lol we were so hungry, even me that I forgot to take pictures of the food ! Sorry ..! We did met the owner & he was such a gentleman! I had a good first impression of this place. The interior was lovely with brick walls and colorful decor. There was a nice, calm atmosphere. I tried the Garlic Naan, which was very tasty, full of strong garlic flavor, slightly crispy, and buttery. The Mango Lassi was also delicious with a cute presentation, complete with whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles. The drink was refreshing, creamy smooth, as well as thick, with just the amount of sweetness. For my meal, I ordered the Lamb Chops with Spinach. The Lamb Chops had an impressive char to it, but was very tough. I had a really difficult time cutting it, as the restaurant only provided a butter knife, despite asking for a sharper knife multiple times. In addition, meat was on the dry side. I also wasn't a fan of the spinach. Others in my party seemed to enjoy their food much more. Service was pretty good, but I was definitely not satisfied with my dish, so I wouldn't return. read more

How is this place a 3.5 star? I absolutely LOVE this place. I literally only go here for my Indian food. Wild to me that it's received a 3.5 average. I must order this at least 3 times a month at least. Lamb Tikka Masala is the best. So good. I get it delivered. I must have spent thousands here in total orders. My friend makes fun of me and says I need a member card because of how many times I order from here. It's the best Indian food taste. I don't like Indian Table and that other spot in Fort Greene. Things seem like they would be easy to achieve in diving extensions, but they're not. This evening I dined at the Marcella Grill. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal, the food was as expected. Nextdoor is a liquor store where you can buy a bottle of wine and they will open it for you - so without the wine, my meal was $30 and spent an hour enjoying my solitude and the food something that doesn't occur very often. I highly recommend the restaurant for those who are traveling and want to appreciate food and service and maybe a little solitude. I dying on a Monday evening. They have so many vegetarian options and very vegan friendly! The waiters are very knowledgeable about veganism so it makes a very stress free experience. All the workers are so friendly . It's pretty empty inside and it's mainly food delivery workers picking up food, but it looks great inside and very chill and quiet. Randomly stopped in here on a whim. Place was pretty empty with just one other table so wasn't sure what to expect. It seems like they're busier with deliveries. We got chicken samosa and the chicken platter to start and they were ok. The chicken samosa didn't have as much flavor as I would like. We got chicken tikka and chicken vindaloo extra spicy which had good flavor. The naan was soft and buttery with garlic. This is the 4th or 5th time we are at Masala Grill. Most of the food that we ordered so far was good. They took a huge shortcut with the fish and chips appetizer, though. The fries were fine, but the "fish" was the cheapest fish finger one can buy in a frozen box of frozen fish fingers in the supermarket. Just some breaded minced fish. The fish looked nothing like the picture on the menu. For $8.95, they could have done better. We felt cheated. The meat in the Biryani, lamb in particular, is inconsistent. Before, it was soft but a bit too fatty, which was ok. This is not an expensive Indian place. This time it had no fat, but it was nearly impossible to chew through. The service is fine. Certainly disappointing. Ordered the vegetable pakora, vegetable samosas and shrimp poori (I believe simply called fresh shrimp). The samosas and pakora were just shoved in brown paper bags. It was so oily they were soaked through. I'd say half the pakoras were nice, the rest bland. The samosas were fine but you can get fine samosas just about anywhere. The shrimp dish consisted of three shrimp and some peppers in a curry sauce with one piece of poori bread. Nothing was good, nothing was dreadful. Simply boring. Besides the oily bags. Deep breath. Okay. So I stopped at this location to grab a quick bite to eat. The young guy behind the counter seemed calm and cool... I asked for the menu and went over the lunch specials.... I was looking for tandoori chicken so I asked him if that was an option for the lunch special. He told me no. So, begrudgingly, I said I would take the lamb curry instead. I also asked for an aloo paratha. He said "lamb curry and aloo paratha, right?" I said yes. I sat there for some time, enjoying the ambiance, watching comedy on youtube and waiting for my meal. When I looked at the time, I realized that it was getting late and I didn't want to have my wife and kids waiting at the pier in Manhattan from an Easter boat ride they were on... I apologized and asked for the food to go... It was at this point that I felt some type of change in the energy of the young guy. He explained that the food was almost ready, but I think he may have thought I was saying that I didn't want the food or something. I didn't have any issues with the restaurant at this point. I had only overestimated the amount of time I had to sit. Another gentleman emerges from the kitchen, looks at me, and then returns to the eating area. He asked me if I was ready to pay. In retrospect this behavior was odd, but I didn't think anything of it at the time. I jumped up to pay and quickly offered up my card. He began to go over my order and he mentioned tandoori chicken. I told him that I didn't order the tandoori chicken. Just the lamb curry lunch special and my aloo paratha. He told me to hold on a second, and he opens the kitchen door and explains to someone exactly what I had just said... A couple of minutes later, the young guy emerges from the kitchen with my food, takes my card and swipes it. When I look at the receipt, I see that the tandoori is still on there!!! At the time it didn't occur to me what had happened. Now it's clear. When the worker explained to the host that I didn't order the tandoori, he figured that was going to force me to pay for it anyway. I repeated to the young guy that I did not order Tandoori chicken. He immediately became defensive and told me "THAT'S NOT WHAT YOU SAID." (side note: Because I had not realized the scheme that had just been pulled, I was simply waiting for the young guy to apologize and acknowledge that a mistake, a miscommunication had occurred. I would have had NO PROBLEM PAYING for the additional order... But once he assumed the absolute WRONG POSITION for anyone to take with a PAYING CUSTOMER, I was absolutely livid.) So here I am, the customer, trying to explain myself, and offer as much grace as possible... The young man keeps saying I REPEATED IT TWICE TO YOU, which was agitating me to no end. I asked him to think logically about the situation. I told him that I saw the sign displayed on the window that said 25 percent off lunch specials. That I had only come to grab a quick bite.... That I had asked him if the tandoori was included in the lunch special... He was certain that I was in the wrong.... And I found myself trying to prove to him that I am an honest person. Then he said, WELL I ALREADY CHARGED THE CARD. Can you believe the audacity? I went back and forth with him, but eventually I settled on a 25 percent reduction (which I thought was already included in the lunch special.... I got my bag of food, but I certainly didn't have the appetite to consume it... I finally relented and found the tandoori to be underseasoned. I won't comment on the texture because I waited several hours to consume it. The aloo paratha was also not anywhere near as good as the ones my wife and I routinely buy from the frozen section in our local food store. My wife kept saying that she didn't taste any potato... The lamb curry was delicious.... But I walked out of that restaurant feeling like my presence may not have been as welcomed as I initially thought. read more

Did not take my temperature or trace info. All front of house staff had masks on but no gloves. I could see into the kitchen, no one had masks or gloves on. Peazi was good, a little salty but quite flavorful. The fry was a bit lackluster but not horrible. The veggie samosa was very good. Delicious & crunchy but not too fried. The garlic naan was good but only 1 piece was really garlicky. The basmati rice was also good. The biggest let down was the chicken tikka Masala. It wasn't bad but wasn't good. The sauce while creamy, was too thin & too sweet; it lacked depth and the chicken was a little dry. I wouldn't get this dish again but I would come back & try something else. On the menu, there is an appetizer called Ka-Chori. Everything else has a brief description, but Ka-Chori is listed as, "Too difficult to put into words, but highly recommended." A couple things about that: 1. I will always order something with that description. 2. I've heard myself described the same way.* 3. If I was to put it into words, I would describe Ka-Chori as a saucy and colorful (I'm 90% sure they swirl the green, brown and white sauces included in every order on top of the dish) mixture of potato chunks, whole chickpeas (that aren't mealy, for the first time in recorded history), and some crusty, bread-like chunks of deliciousness. Aside from this one appetizer, it turns out that Masala Grill also serves all kinds of delicious Indian food. The naan is fluffy, the staple dishes (for me at least) like Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Vindaloo or Rogan Josh, Chicken Bhuna, Saag Panir, Tandoori Chicken...are all fresh and flavorful.** And if you order any of these delicious dishes, they'll give you at least two more sauces than the four you normally get at most Indian joints. That alone is a huge win. On the side of sadness, they have a strange habit of hiding whole star anise in dishes randomly. It's like an awful surprise of both texture and flavor, and I'd appreciate it if that wasn't a thing anymore. ____________ *That's not true. ** I'm not a big fan of Malai Kofta, because who really wants veggie balls in a bland sauce? Food: Ordered a butter chicken with aloo paratha. The butter chicken was ok. Nothing memorable. The aloo paratha on the other hand was confusing. I've had this at many other places but their paratha is like a giant samosa. But, it had a weird smell to it that left me wanting more. Overall, the food was average at best but I don't think I'll be returning because no one was wearing masks or gloves. The doors to the kitchen were open and I could see them without it, and the man at the register also had no mask or gloves. I can't trust a place that can't follow city protocols, and at the least respect their customers enough to take precautions. We ordered a large family dinner from here last night and it was delicious. I had the goat Biryani and it was delicious. The goat was nice and tender and the rice was not over cooked. The entree was seasoned to perfection and not salty at all, nor was it too hot. We ordered kebabs and different types of Tikka Masala and everything was delicious. This place serves the best Indian food I've experienced in Brooklyn (by far), and I've lived here for 10 years. My fiancé and I shared the fresh shrimp appetizer, which came with crispy poori bread, and then we had the chicken saagwala and chicken vindaloo entrees. Everything was so flavorful and perfectly seasoned. They also give you complimentary papadum with your order and delicious rice pudding to end your meal, which is a nice touch.
