I really hope the new owner/management sees this review. The girl at the restaurant needs help. She's doing everything. Taking orders, attending tables and making sure food is cooked the way we wanted it. Our dish was cooked with with ghee as we're staying away from seeds oils. Very small portion for price. We will return in couple of months to give it another try. Hopefully food improves.

Bad owner, mismanagement with workerAs for the food, it was a real letdown. We ordered a few classics hoping for vibrant, authentic Indian flavors, but what we received was shockingly bland. The [mention a specific dish, e.g., chicken tikka masala] lacked the aromatic depth you'd expect, tasting more like a generic tomato sauce with a hint of something vaguely Indian. The [mention another specific dish, e.g., naan] was doughy and undercooked in parts, while others were almost burnt. Portions were decent, but quantity doesn't make up for lack of quality. The ambiance was okay, though a bit noisy, but overall, it didn't create a comfortable or enjoyable atmosphere. For the price, I expected much more in terms of both service and, most importantly, the food itself. There are far better Indian restaurants in Brooklyn that deliver on taste and service. I won't be returning to Indian Spice

Exactly what we ordered and the reasonable price we paid.

Four for dinner just before 7pm. Other than one couple, the place was empty so we were seated immediately. The place is well lit, clean and visually appealing. The server took our order, repeated everything correctly without writing anything down. I prefer servers to write things down so there is less chance of them forgetting anything. Haha. We ordered four dishes, samosas and a chai. We were given a complimentary appetizer which was nice but the chai did not come until mid meal and not until after we reminded them that we had ordered it. The dishes were not bad but we were disappointed that they were not good. Here is what we ordered and our immediate impression: Samosa - tasty and as expected, loved to 2 dipping sauces Garlic Naan - tasty and as expected Indian Daal - in need of salt, flavor and moisture Chicken Kurma Zafrani - quite sweet Lamb Madra - lacked salt Shrimp Tikka Masala - sweet and slightly spicy Chai - watered down We were started off with a complimentary shrimp with golden poori appetizer that was delicious and our favorite dish. A place to go if you are local, don't want to take the metro anywhere, and are craving Indian food, any Indian food. Would not come again unless my situation fit the former statement and would only recommend with the same statement.

lamb madras was very tasty and meat was so fresh

love this resturant took my friends this is now my hang out spot i never really liked indian food but after having their food i might make an exception and the mango lassi was so orange and hydrating and its great that it was halal too so me and my family could go and eat

Lunch special

This is a cute little neighborhood spot in Park Slope. A fellow Yelp Elite friend and I went here for lunch after seeing that they offer a lunch special, which includes 1 appetizer and 1 entrée, as well as basmati rice, naan bread, cucumber raita, and mango chutney. We decided to sit indoors because it was a bit chilly outside and there was no one else dining there at the time. It was nice and cozy inside with elegant chandeliers, along with a theme of pretty wood colors, purple, and gold. I got a mango lassi, which was wonderfully thick, delightfully creamy, and just the right amount of sweetness. For my appetizer, I ordered the Lamb Sheesh Kabob, which was plated beautifully. The lamb was sliced into pieces on top of onion, with savory green sauce shaped into a swirled star. The lamb was perfectly tender, succulent, and juicy. It was also seasoned with special spices and herbs, making it burst with flavor. I selected the Goan Salmon Curry for my entrée, which is not something I normally order because I wanted to try something unique. The salmon were in nicely sized chunks with plenty of tomato cream sauce. The salmon melted in my mouth, and the curry sauce was oh so tasty and flavorful. On the side, there was basmati rice with peas on top and a salad. The rice was fluffy and warm. Salad was decent and added a fresh, crunchy element to the dish. The naan bread the accompanied the meal was large and puffy, as well as extremely soft and yummy! My friend and I enjoyed our time and the food here. The service was lovely as well. I would return if in the area.

Super great spot to satisfy your cravings ! Food was delicious at such a good price too. Very affordable and nothing missed! Loved the chicken tikka masala especially! The garlic naan was pretty huge, warm and tasty. Would definitely come here again!

Food was subpar. Butter chicken was sweet. Saag paneer was very westernized. Mango lassi was not sweet. The restaurant is pretty normal but the music adds some ambiance. The service is very attentive. So overall a just okay experience.

Chicken Tikka Masala

Okay food, not bad but not that great either. For the price though, I guess you can't complain too much. I ordered their "One Appetizer, One Entree" for $15 which is basically a special that a lot of Indian restaurants have. Your choice of an app & entree that also comes with rice and naan. Total came out to about $20 with tax and fees. There weren't any pictures on here of what it looked like packaged for delivery and I wanted to make sure that the meat and rice came separate so I called to ask. The man I spoke to was kind of rude as if I was asking a stupid question but whatever. He confirmed they are packaged separately so I placed the order. They have 10 options to choose from for the app and 12 for the main. They have lots of vegetarian options as well but I will say besides chicken and veggies, the only other option you have for an entree is salmon. The upside is they don't charge you extra for it being seafood. They don't offer lamb or goat at all in that section. I opted with the malai kebab for my app because I've never had it and it sounded good. I wasn't in the mood for ground chicken and didn't want to take a chance on the lamb. And I went with the Tikka Masala for the main to be safe considering I'd never ordered from them before. The kebab was really sad. There was not ounce of salt on that chicken. Two little lemon slices doesn't do much on a piece of chicken that has absolutely no flavor to it. I had to season it myself and dipped it in the green sauce to make it decent. Would not order again. Now the Tikka Masala was pretty good, but then again it's Tikka Masala. Extremely mild so if you don't like spicy, that's the way to go. The chicken inside was good, nothing special. Very pungent tomato-y flavor and nice and thick consistency that paired really well with the naan. My biggest problem was with the rice, I really did not enjoy it at all and it went uneaten. The picture I posted was taken immediately after I poured some sauce on it for my first bite. After that it went in the garbage and I ended up just eating the naan with my chicken. I've never seen basmati rice that looks like that, I could be wrong but it looked like there were both short and long grains in it. Not only that but there was so much coconut milk used, it was overwhelming and it gave the rice a mushy, almost chewed up like texture when I was eating it. I love basmati rice so it highkey brought the meal from a solid 5 to a 2. I literally look forward to pouring sauce on it and going to town. The app was ehh. The rice was a no. The entree and naan were the only saving graces.

I'm shocked that this happened. We're regulars here at Indian Spice. Pokora

I'm shocked that this happened. We're regulars here at Indian Spice. Here we have Pokoras, which had a metal rode embedded into. Luckily I saw a shine before eating it. Someone could have easily been hurt or worse. This cannot be taken lightly. Serving jagged pieces of metal in customers food?? I can't imagine we're the first nor the last.

One of the best meals I've had in a long time while dining out can be credited to Indian Spice. Getting familiar with restaurants along 7th Avenue, Indian Spice was a first time experience for us this evening. And a really good one. Gorgeous interior as seen from the outside, a chalkboard indicated complimentary appetizer per table and after viewing the menu, we were sold to try it. The restaurant had a lovely ambiance with sparkling chandeliers, exposed brick and a bar at the far end of the restaurant. For a Monday night, it also had a good number of patrons. Once sat, we were served Papadam with the trio of chutneys: coriander, tamarind and onion. For our complimentary appetizer, we decided on the shrimp with poori bread. This was delicate and delicious. The shrimp was coated in a thick tomato like sauce and we took the opportunity to sop up the deliciousness with the poori bread. Poori, if familiar, is fried and served inflated. It wasn't overly oily like some that I've tried in the past. Service was always en pointe as per our lovely server Shameen. She was attentive, helpful and very pleasant. We were made to feel welcomed from the start. For main we chose mango chicken and (I was in the mood for) chicken Jalfreezi. The latter wasn't on the menu but they offered to prepare it with chicken. The traditional method was prepared vegetarian style. For a side bread, we selected a mint paratha. The main entrees were served in a sectioned plate containing basmati rice and side salad. We even asked for more rice and yet another generous portion was served at no extra charge. Same for the chutneys--we requested a couple re-fills. We were always accommodated. The food served at Indian Spice resembles that of a high quality restaurant one would expect in Manhattan--tasty, with the flavorful seasonings (in fact, I observed it was unusually not spicy), satisfying portions, reasonably priced (our entrees were $13.00), great service and cozy atmosphere. No complaints---all praise. I was really impressed with my experience at Indian Spice. It was a great dining experience and worth checking out.

We chose bar seating, which ended up being a bit of a tight squeeze facing the wall; not the most comfortable setup, but manageable for a short meal. To start, we had the pani puri, followed by the samosa chaat. The flavors were good, but the samosa chaat was a bit of a letdown. It wasn't served hot, and the samosa itself was soggy rather than crisp. That contrast in texture is really what makes the dish shine, so it felt like it may have sat a bit too long or was over-sauced. We also tried the vegetable pav, which was decent, and the cod, which was actually very good; nicely cooked with a flavorful sauce. I did find myself wishing we had an extra roti to soak up the rest. For drinks, I had the mango lassi, which I appreciated for not being overly sweet. Service was okay but could be more attentive. My water wasn't refilled after a couple of rounds, and we felt a bit rushed toward the end of the meal. We were given the check without being asked about dessert, which caught us off guard. We did ask afterward, but by then decided to go elsewhere. That said, the food overall is flavorful, and I can see why this place has appeal; especially if you're looking for something a little different in the neighborhood. Having met the owner before in Industry City, it's great to see her doing well in Carroll Gardens, and I wish the restaurant continued success.

Since then, we've dined in, and taken out, and the food has been unfailingly delicious. If you can swing it, dining in is always the move. Unlike the aforementioned sushi joint, Dastaan has decorated to make the small space much more colorful, and infinitely more welcoming. It seems to be a family business, judging by the somewhat surly (teenage?) waitress, but she was still there for anything we needed. Plus, you'll get some complimentary papadum with homemade tamarind and green sauce. But either way, the food will be good. The naan is fresh and fluffy, the poori is delightful (this airy goodness is dine-in only, I'd imagine), the lasuni gobi starter is one of my favorite things, and the curries are all deeply rich and flavorful. We've had korma, bhuna, and saag, with seafood or chicken or paneer or lamb. We've of course had chicken tikka masala and butter chicken (I'd prefer dark meat in the latter for taste and juiciness, but I imagine I'm in the minority). All of it has been super, super tasty. One of my kids is coming around to the fact that Indian food can be amazing, the other will only eat rice and mango lassi. But Dastaan gives me hope that some day they'll crave it like I do. We're going to keep coming in, and taking out.

It was sweet, but not overly so. And actually creamy (alot of places are watery). A few chicken pieces were tougher to chew. But overall a great dish. I also had my fave: aloo gobi. It was well seasoned, but some peas and cauliflower were slightly undercooked. The garlic naan was the highlight. Perfectly prepared, right amount of seasonings and butter. Prob the best I've had delivered. Cant wait to try other things from the menu.

We tried the Ghati Chicken, Szechuan Noodles, Basmati Rice, and Chapati (flatbread). The Ghati Chicken is very flavorful and quite spicy; the dark meat chicken is served in a stone bowl with a mixture of spices and spicy oil. It goes well with the basmati rice. The waitress recommended the Szechuan Noodles which was also very tasty and had a mixture of vegetables. The Chapati was good but nothing special - just a flat thin bread (similar to roti but less buttery). I would highly recommend the Ghati Chicken and Szechuan Noodles and can't wait to go back to try their other dishes. They offer a variety of appetizers, entrees (goat and vegetable biryani, paneer, butter chicken, fish), and sides. Service: The restaurant seemed a bit understaffed with only one waitress taking orders and seating customers and another waiter filling water and clearing empty dishes. It took a long time for us to get our order in, but the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Service was a bit slow because they were understaffed, but despite this, the two servers were excellent and did their best to get to everyone. Ambiance: The restaurant isn't big, but they are able to accommodate both large and small groups. Seating is tight but not too bad. I would make reservations because the place fills up quickly during peak dinner time. Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant and can't wait to go back!
