Garlic Naan

Great takeout! This garlic naan is top 3 best I've ever eaten. Chicken tikka masala is classic taste. Will order again.

Butter Chicken

Oh my god ok. Writing this review... I already miss their food. As a Pakistani-Indian I am so impressed with their food... we got the Chicken Biryani, Butter Chicken (came with white basmati rice) and Garlic Naan (which we ordered more of because it was delicious)!!!!! Chicken Biryani- Starting off amazing... their biryani is TO DIE FOR. I have tried so many different types of biryani all around Long Island and some places in the city but haven't found any as good as my moms... until this place. Super flavorful, good amount of spice, rice was perfect, chicken cooked perfectly... damn wish I took some to go! Butter chicken- ok i knew it was an Indian Restaurant so the butter chicken HAD to be good but WOW it was beyond good! Creamy, flavorful, smooth, it tasted home made and delicious. I feel like butter chicken has been altered so many times all around New York that it doesn't taste authentic anymore but not this butter chicken. Give it a try!!! Garlic Naan- SO GOOD. I was hesitant at first because the naan had actual chunks of garlic on it but damn was it all so good, fluffy, and mouth watering!! We ordered a second batch! My other friend got a salmon type dish, I had a little taste of and that itself was also really good! This place made me feel like I was invited over my family's house back in Pakistan... such warm comfy vibes and the food was *chefs kiss*

The Tikka Masala and Saag are both delicious! We've ordered them several times and can't wait to try more dishes...

The vegetables, lentils, and rice were balanced and comforting, and it really tasted homemade in the best way. The summer salad was also lovely, and the pani puri was decent. Service was warm, and the atmosphere was relaxed, with nice outdoor seating in the back. Just note that you pay at the counter when you order. Great lunch spot overall, and I hope to return for dinner.

We chose bar seating, which ended up being a bit of a tight squeeze facing the wall; not the most comfortable setup, but manageable for a short meal. To start, we had the pani puri, followed by the samosa chaat. The flavors were good, but the samosa chaat was a bit of a letdown. It wasn't served hot, and the samosa itself was soggy rather than crisp. That contrast in texture is really what makes the dish shine, so it felt like it may have sat a bit too long or was over-sauced. We also tried the vegetable pav, which was decent, and the cod, which was actually very good; nicely cooked with a flavorful sauce. I did find myself wishing we had an extra roti to soak up the rest. For drinks, I had the mango lassi, which I appreciated for not being overly sweet. Service was okay but could be more attentive. My water wasn't refilled after a couple of rounds, and we felt a bit rushed toward the end of the meal. We were given the check without being asked about dessert, which caught us off guard. We did ask afterward, but by then decided to go elsewhere. That said, the food overall is flavorful, and I can see why this place has appeal; especially if you're looking for something a little different in the neighborhood. Having met the owner before in Industry City, it's great to see her doing well in Carroll Gardens, and I wish the restaurant continued success.

This is our goto place for Indian food in Brooklyn. Being a Bengali I was dumbfounded when I found…read morean authentic Bengali restaurant walking distance from our place and the food quality is five stars!! I have not been disappointed once after eating more than 5 times. Below are items that I order regularly: 1. Chicken Biryani 2. Kosha Mangsho (Goat Curry) 3. Chilli Chicken - This is probably the best I have ever eaten! However I highly recommend eating this at the restaurant coz Togo will get soggy and not as much fun! There are couple of things which I am not a fan of: 1. They do not have a phone number on their website 2. Their Togo menu is different than their sit in menu. However, if you go there and ask them for items that are in their sit-in menu, they have never said no

The decor and vibe of this place is so vibrant and beautiful, it instantly puts you in a good mood. I came here for a solo dinner during restaurant week which was a pretty good deal. Most of the patrons seem like they were neighborhood locals which I love to see. I would say based on the flavors and the people dining here that this restaurant is more of a gentrified desi place than authentic. I found the flavors in most of the items I tried lacking. The fuchka prepared tableside is a nice touch, but again the marketing is geared more towards non-desi patrons. The fish fry was delicious and a good portion but more like a good British fish n chips cod filet than a desi fish fry with proper spices. Even the mustard served on the side was awfully bland with no spice whatsoever. While I can still appreciate the flavors, I will always be disappointed when an establishment trades authenticity to serve and coddle palettes that do not appreciate proper desi food. The lamb curry was very very good, and I specifically asked for it to be made spicy. Dining here felt like invading a curated space for non Indians, so I unapologetically ate the curry and rice with my hands to remind myself that yes, this is still our food even if it's muted. To the owners I say - do better and do not shy away from authentic flavors. This is afterall, New York freaking City. We are allowed to show up and showcase our cuisine with full masala, full spice and full heat - just the way God intended it to be.

Since then, we've dined in, and taken out, and the food has been unfailingly delicious. If you can swing it, dining in is always the move. Unlike the aforementioned sushi joint, Dastaan has decorated to make the small space much more colorful, and infinitely more welcoming. It seems to be a family business, judging by the somewhat surly (teenage?) waitress, but she was still there for anything we needed. Plus, you'll get some complimentary papadum with homemade tamarind and green sauce. But either way, the food will be good. The naan is fresh and fluffy, the poori is delightful (this airy goodness is dine-in only, I'd imagine), the lasuni gobi starter is one of my favorite things, and the curries are all deeply rich and flavorful. We've had korma, bhuna, and saag, with seafood or chicken or paneer or lamb. We've of course had chicken tikka masala and butter chicken (I'd prefer dark meat in the latter for taste and juiciness, but I imagine I'm in the minority). All of it has been super, super tasty. One of my kids is coming around to the fact that Indian food can be amazing, the other will only eat rice and mango lassi. But Dastaan gives me hope that some day they'll crave it like I do. We're going to keep coming in, and taking out.

The service was attentive and quick and happy to offer suggestions and menu highlights. The drinks were so tasty (although pricey at $17 each) and I loved the mezcal one. The dosa and mushroom dish were my favorite of the bunch, but the banana pudding dessert with rose ice cream was to die for and so decadent. Would highly recommend stopping in! Each dish was thoughtful and had a unique take on something familiar. When I arrived, with my reservation of course, I felt the service was a bit snooty and rushed. Maybe it was an off night, can't say for sure. I did feel to the right and left of my table, the staff was more patient and friendly. But thankfully things improved after the food arrived. Additionally, We were having trouble picking between two desserts and in the end received a sample of our runner up choice. That was sweet of them!

I am writing this review still fuming from an awful experience with two women working tonight…read more(10/25). In short, we ordered chicken tikka masala and garlic naan through Uber Eats but then received the entirely wrong order an hour later. We got the got the issue corrected with Uber Eats, and I called the restaurant to ask that they remake our order for which we would pick it up and pay for it in person. The main woman who was assisting asked me where the incorrect order was as she claimed it is a requirement that we bring the wrong order back to the restaurant to be issued a full refund (?). I said I was not made aware that we had to do this, and furthermore, I know that based on hygienic food practices, they should be trashing any food that goes to the wrong customers... especially since the food has now changed hands multiple times with a delivery driver and being in our home... She insisted that this was not true and that the food could be used to feed their employees, which may be the case, but again, this was not clear and I am skeptical of any restaurant who accepts back food that has been out of their sight for nearly 2 hours at that point. She and the other woman continued arguing with me on this - at one point insisting they will send their delivery driver back with me to pick up the food?! Absolutely not. I was feeling incredibly harassed at this point - and honestly between being hungry and pregnant, I communicated this and that this situation was stressful, but they were continuing to argue with me. The second woman started to dismiss me, even. I asked my husband to come in and take care of the bill because I had to remove myself from that situation, and I could see him through the window continuing to be berated by the main woman for her assumption that we would be trashing the food that was incorrectly delivered. (I never stated this, I did state that I am aware that restaurants have to throw this food out.) He confirmed that she was being just as argumentative with him. This is such a shame because Indian Spice was such a wonderful part of our experience when we last lived in Brooklyn, and based on this, I would never order from here again.
