Had a really enjoyable lunch at Tera Mera. The highlight was the daily khichadi, which had such a warm, homey quality to it. The vegetables, lentils, and rice were balanced and comforting, and it really tasted homemade in the best way. The summer salad was also lovely, and the pani puri was decent. Service was warm, and the atmosphere was relaxed, with nice outdoor seating in the back. Just note that you pay at the counter when you order. We had dinner for two here last night and overall had a solid experience, with a few things that could be improved. We chose bar seating, which ended up being a bit of a tight squeeze facing the wall; not the most comfortable setup, but manageable for a short meal. To start, we had the pani puri, followed by the samosa chaat. The flavors were good, but the samosa chaat was a bit of a letdown. It wasn't served hot, and the samosa itself was soggy rather than crisp. That contrast in texture is really what makes the dish shine, so it felt like it may have sat a bit too long or was over-sauced. We also tried the vegetable pav, which was decent, and the cod, which was actually very good; nicely cooked with a flavorful sauce. I did find myself wishing we had an extra roti to soak up the rest. For drinks, I had the mango lassi, which I appreciated for not being overly sweet. Service was okay but could be more attentive. My water wasn't refilled after a couple of rounds, and we felt a bit rushed toward the end of the meal. We were given the check without being asked about dessert, which caught us off guard. We did ask afterward, but by then decided to go elsewhere. That said, the food overall is flavorful, and I can see why this place has appeal; especially if you're looking for something a little different in the neighborhood. Vada pav - definitely the best thing I had. The bread was fluffy, the vada was full of delicious spices and hearty potatoes, and there was nice heat from the dry chutney and roasted chili pepper. Pani puri - not bad, but not remarkable either. I think I could've used a bit more heat. Palak burrata - kind of disappointing. Paying homage to the Italian heritage of the neighborhood is a cute idea, but I think burrata is the wrong cheese for the dish. The gravy was super buttery already, and the cream from the burrata made that go overboard. I also caught an unpleasant bitter note, likely from burned garlic stacking with fenugreek. It's also super overpriced at $26. On the plus side, the roti was pretty much perfect. The bill came to $66 with tax and tip, which is really expensive. I'd maybe go again for the snacks, but the mains were sort of a miss for me. read more

While homely items like chili cheese toast are on the menu, the vibe at this beautiful new Cobble Hill eatery is more Bandra West than Bombay meri jaan. Sipping on natty wines in the lush backyard cafe, you can taste specialties from the city of dreams the way they're enjoyed in the cafés of Kala Ghoda. The best items were the Bombay sandwich and the dahi puri. Paneer bhurji is not a traditional ingredient in Bombay sandwiches, but it really made this sandwich shine. The dahi puri was plated in little tartlettes rather than traditional puris, which was a fun touch. I only take issue with the Vada pav, which had good flavor but had not a single bit of crisp to it. I have noted this issue with a number of restaurants serving this in the states, as they probably don't find it worthwhile to deep fry the vadas freshly as they're ordered. read more

From the folks behind Taza Mkt in Industry City is the newly opened Tera Mera, an Indian snack bar in Cobble Hill. They have a selection of Indian treats on the wall ranging from some cooking items and spices to to pickles/achaar to chutneys and other snacks both from India as well as Indian American goods. They're currently open from 12:00 to 6:00 but they're going to be adding more options for dinner soon so expect them to be open later soon enough. They have a comfortable front along with a nice backyard which is similar to the coffee house/bar Saturn Road next door. Along with some food, they have coffee and tea with some specialty drinks such as a Gulab Jamun Shaken Espresso along with a small selection of alcohol which will grow as they add more things with there being currently Kingfisher and some wines. The staff here is friendly. For food, I was here earlier and I got a Classic Bombay Toastie for $15 + tax listed as a toasted sandwich with beets, vegetables, and cheese. The sandwich was cut into four pieces and each of them was generally filled with a potato masala, beets, tomato, some other veggies, and some type of spicy chutney with the top of the toast having some sev as well as some pomegranate seeds. It was very tasty and worked as a light lunch though I think also two people could easily split this as an appetizer once their dinner options roll in. Today was my first time at Tera Mera but I can confidently say I'll be back a million times ....the most authentic and home made flavors in every dish.. I can't get begin to descrive how every bite brought back memories of Bombay. The decor is classy and elegant, staff is super friendly and the chef... sorry "cook" Shalini!!! She was the finishing touch on an outstanding experience ... her warmth and banter made it such a personal and bonding with her over being Bombayites was special. The local neighbors recommended Tera Mera to us and we walked in around noon. We were warmly greeted by Shalini and had a wonderful conversation on her journey. The place and its design speaks to you while you interact with the family pictures of Shalini's family adorning the walls. We were impressed by the masala and cardamom chai (highly recommend). The combination of the chai with a dunkable Parle-G cookie took me back in time when I was in India. We ordered Masala Omelette Roti, Classic Bombay Toastie, and Daily Kichidi. The Bombay Toasties were a delight to watch and even more delicious to bite into. The Masala Omelette Roti was a love at first bite with the combination of green and red chutney tickling my taste buds asking for more. We took the Khichdi to go because it was the coldest day of January and wanted to enjoy its savory flavors at dinner, and it didn't disappoint at all. I am writing this review while enjoying the raita Shalini packed with the Khichdi. We will be back to check out the dining menu next time! read more

I was excited to try this spot and although my experience started off rocky, it quickly turned into one of the best dining experiences I've had in New York. When I first sat down, I felt overlooked as a solo diner and was on my way storming out but before I walked out, I spoke with the owner. She couldn't have been kinder. She apologized sincerely, made sure I felt welcome, and insisted dinner would be on the house. That small gesture, paired with her warmth, completely turned things around. The food itself was incredible.. so flavorful, fresh, and exactly what I'd been craving. But more than that, the hospitality reminded me of true Indian warmth and care. The owner didn't have to go out of her way for one customer on a busy Friday night, but she did, and it left a lasting impression. I walked away not only full and happy but also feeling like I'd found a place I want to return to again and again. Super friendly and sweet staff, they always try to get us in even when we don't have a reservation but its definitely gotten harder to walk in because its so popular. The tomato malai toast they have on the summer menu is one of my favorite toasts ever. Love the decor inside and on the patio. I'd like to echo what others have said about the odd/aggressive service including pressuring people to buy more food. I've been twice to order a lunch to go. The first time, there was no issue (other than a kind of intense pressure to order more/add on chai). The second time, the server (the same man who was there the first time) looked at me like I was crazy for trying to order a lunch to go. He said he'd have to check with someone in the back to see if they had the capacity to take to go orders. ... of course they ended up being able to sell an order to go. Came by a few weeks later, the staff and owner were super welcoming and you cant tell from the front but there's a large beautiful backyard. Tera Mera is such a gem in Cobble Hill! We enjoyed a cozy date night sitting outside in their beautiful garden, catching the last warm days of September -- a perfect setting. The food was outstanding: we tried two appetizers and two mains (a fish dish and a vegetarian dish), all bursting with flavor and so well-prepared. Their French white wine selection was a wonderful surprise -- elegant and paired perfectly with the meal. Food was excellent, but I've never felt more pressured to spend money at a restaurant in my life. They call themselves a snack bar on their website and I was drawn in because they have themselves advertised as a "wine bar" outside. I came in with my partner wanting a drink and perhaps a snack. We came in at 6 pm with no reservation and were seated at a table, although we also told the host the bar was fine with us. The waitress told us that most people ordered "3-4 dishes per person" with the average price for each dish being ~$20. My partner and I decided to order a drink each and to split an entree. The owner of the restaurant then came up to us and told us that since we had come in during dinner service we would have to order more food. She said we must at least order another appetizer. We said we weren't hungry and she said "fine just this once but just so you know you can't come during dinner and not order dinner." Fine--understandable for a sit down restaurant but not for a place that advertises itself as a wine and snack bar! I felt so pressured to order more food we ended up ordering pani puri, In total we spent $40/pp on a dinner that took less than an hour. In that time the restaurant never became completely full so it's not like we were costing them any extra money. I left feeling weirdly guilty about even having stepped foot in the restaurant in the first place. read more

I've been working in IC for nearly two years straight, a collective 3 total. I'm quite particular with my Indian food. I require a consistency and authenticity that doesn't often get met unless I go proper fancy. This joint is not proper fancy and serves a damn good bowl of protein and rice with an excellent kick. The vindaloo is spicy, because it should be. It's vindaloo. The lamb is soft and tasty. They also have a few different options of naan, chicken, and spices for sale. So their Yelp site, has the incorrect hours posted, which says they are closed on Sunday. Its a brightly decorated food stall inside the main food court area. They sell many different snacks like Chips and desserts. All of what looked interesting. Ordered the Punjabi Butter Chicken. I got a huge bowl of rice with a small amount of everything else covering the top. Chicken was tasty with a light spicy kick, but could have use a lot more sauce. Pickled mango was also flavorful but there was only a tiny amount, seemed more like decoration. Chickpeas were nicely done. It would have been better if there were some vegetables in this dish, and a lot less rice. With tax, this dish is close to $20, for mostly rice. I would have preferred more vegetables. I ended up throwing away a lot of the rice because there was just too much of it and I couldn't eat just plain rice. Five stars for the taste of the food, but its a very small portion compared to the huge amount of rice is a turn off. But if that doesn't bother you then this place is for you! Enjoy! Maybe other dishes are better. Service: the lone male server seemed nice but very quiet. He left my food on the side counter and walked away, without saying it was mine. I stood there a bit unsure. My boyfriend and I came here for lunch when visiting Industry City. The workers here are super sweet and helpful in suggestions. We got the Butter Chicken and Pork Vindaloo as well as a side of their Mac & Cheese. After being ignored for 5 minutes at the host stand, someone finally asked us, while not making eye contact, if he could help us with something. We asked to be seated at a table for dinner. He bizarrely responded with "we only have one table in the back, is that okay". A weird question given there were only 2 of us, but we said that was OK, and were taken to a nice table. That was the last time anyone spoke to us or even so much as looked at us. We sat there for 5 minutes hoping someone would come and offer us water, take our order, or even just acknowledge that we were there. There wasn't even anyone to flag down. Finally got to try Taza Mkt! Every time I come to Industry City I usually miss the hours. Definately happy I was able to eat here today. Server was super friendly. You are able to build your own taffin which is a bowl. There was plenty of choices; diff types of rice to start can go with 2 veg or a protein and veg. Vegetarian friendly. We came in on a cold day looking for some new Indian to try in the neighborhood. Initial layout was a bit weird as we had to walk to the back and order food + leave a tip before having to seat ourselves or even receive service. When ordering an entree and appetizer to share, we were immediately questioned if we wanted to make it a complete meal more than once, because "customers typically order 3 dishes per person." This made us feel pressured so we ordered the chili cheese toast (more on that later...) After feeling pressured to order more, we then had to take our own seat and bring the water pitcher and glasses to our table. We ordered the samosas, chili cheese toast (it was just one slice of what looked like store bought bread cut in four with cheese on top), and the butter chicken. Everything we had was just okay. Nothing to make us sincerely want to come back given the portions and price point. Absolutely delicious Indian food here and the service is quick and attentive. I got 2 different bowls on two separate occasions which were the Pork Vindaloo and the Lamb, both of which come with their own notable accompaniments. The pork comes with this super sour pickle that balances off the salty pork really well, and I think it comes with the best side, the Masala Mac and Cheese. Oh man, I am a huge Mac n Cheez person and this, is some hella good stuff. Non-conventional and unorthodox, but it brings its own flavors into the mix and it does it super well, with this rich, creamy, intensely herbacious flavor. The lamb bowl is also extremely delicious ( it comes with its own sour pickle) and the saag that comes with it is creamy and smooth. Overall, I think the balance in this bowl is a little better than the pork one but both are very good and worth trying. read more

Customer service through the roof!!! I loved it here! I visited about two weeks ago with a friend and it was a great way to ring in my first time at Industry City. We didn't quite know what we wanted to eat but after walking by twice, we couldn't ignore the mouth watering smells coming from the kitchen! We ordered protein bowls (mine with salmon and my friend's with chicken). We had it with rice, chana masala, sweet tamarind sauce, yoghurt, and one roti and garlic naan. The roti and garlic naan weren't what we expected. It was a different take. More flatbread like. But it didn't disappoint. The women working there were extremely personable, loving, and communicative. We loved their energy! We started talking about food and ended up chatting about where the nightlife can be found in Industry City. The fresh drinks were also delicious. I had hibiscus and my friend had turmeric ginger iced tea. Mine was unsweetened but it was very organic tasting! I felt like the flowers were just boiled and cooled. 10/10 recommend! So everything smells amazing, the food I got was good, but the service left so much to be desired. The first thing I hear is a woman behind the counter asking a customer in a rude tone "can you handle it or not" as the customer in front of me was trying to decide somehow by smell if the food was acceptably spicy for them to tolerate. They of course weren't sure and the woman behind the counter just got more and more rude about it. Then it's my turn. I order saag paneer and the daily daal. They give me two small pieces of paneer. I said asked if I could please have more and the man helping me looked at me and his dead pan response was "no". I said "can I just pay extra?", and as though that had never occurred to him he said okay. The food was good, but mostly rice, the whole situation left a lot to be desired. read more
