I was walking around the food market and I kept coming back to Taza because of the aroma. It just smelled so flavorful! I got the Sabzi Mandi and while the entire bowl was fantastic, the Coconut Chana and Daily Dal were my favorite; special shout-out to the green chili pickle. I also tried the turmeric ginger drink, which was also very good, but you need to LOVE turmeric to drink it. There is certainly a favorable difference on the side of the the home cooked meals I've had when at the house of an Indian friend versus the sub-par Indian food sound at some AYCE buffets. Shalini Vaswani's Taza MKT recreates the home cooked quality I enjoy in my friends' homes in a order at the counter and take to the table restaurant environment. I was in industry city food court area when the smell of taza mkt capture my attention but they were closed. So i made sure i came back on a day they were open. There not a lot of really good Indian food in brooklyn, but i was hopeful and taza market did not disappoint. They have a good variety of meat and vegetarian base. Their butter chicken is delicious! It came with chick peas, basmati rice, beets, and onions. I also got a cilantro mint sauce on the side. I didn't like the chick peas, they were hard. I like mine cooked more but the meal was so delicious. A lil pricey, I paid $20 for the meal and a water, but welcome to NY. I'd love to try the other meals, especially the naan and samosas one day. They also had ice pops for $3 that I was tempted to try, and will on another day. And unique chocolate bars, like dark chocolate rose, but at $10, I passed on those too. I ordered for pick up on the app because I really didn't want to wait for food. I was in a hurry, but when I got to the counter, the line was four deep. I was waiting for my food which was already boxed up and in a bag, but only one person was there and she wasn't asking if there were any pick ups and my food was cold by the time I got it. Next time I won't bother to order through the app for pick up. Additionally, I was ordering a build your own and I thought I chose my protein but when I got my bag, there was only veg and no lamb. I came here on a Friday for lunch. This place was delicious. The food was really good. I got the Punjabi Butter Chicken, mushrooms, seasoned rice, and something with chickpeas. It was a decent amount of food. It lasted for 2-3 meals for me. Leftovers, yum! I like that you can see all of the food options. They're all sitting out on warming pans, and you can pick based on what looks good. You start with rice and go down the line of food, choosing one by one, building your plate. The lady was also very helpful with questions. (I'm always asking what's gluten and dairy free). The only thing that's tough is the price. It was about $17.50 for one order. My friend and I were exploring Industry City and decided to try this place out as it was like the only place with decent ratings (there were only two ratings). The service was phenomenal as the worker inside noticed us standing outside, welcomed us in, and even gave us samples from a selection of sides. It was my first time having Indian food and he explained what each dish was. Eventually, we settled on Lamb Keema Peas Hydrabadi for our meat, cauliflower and mac n cheese for sides, with two sauces. The mac n cheese was deliciously creamy, the lamb was slightly spicy but was flavorful and tasted amazing paired with the sauce and rice. The only downside was it was really expensive as it came to around $17! As an Indian, grew up in India, I find it funny that many Indian restaurants in America drop the paneer (not cooked with the sauce, not even fried) on the saag and serve it. It's mind-boggling! I can't say enough things about this wonderful place! Shalini, the owner, was insanely gracious and personable and just made the whole experience that much more wonderful! Though, I will say, the food alone is reason enough to come to Taza Mkt. Soooo good! Amazing flavors - tons of different combinations, and essentially everything is customizable (so you can create a bowl to fit your tastes. I had: - Shikanji (Shalini described it to me as Indian Gatorade). Imagine if those Papadum crackers you get at Indian restaurants and lemonade had a baby----different than anything I've ever had! Addictingly unique and delicious! - White rice base (fluffy and lovely) - Butter chicken (rich and creamy with perfectly cooked juicy chicken) - Lamb meatballs (are you kidding me? You need these in your life! Layers of fascinating flavors that worked so well with some many of the different sauces/condiments! The cilantro chutney and the raita, or yogurt, both brought out different flavor profiles amazingly well. But, I was particularly struck by the the stewed tomato sauce the meatballs are served with. Think.....classic Italian red sauce gravy took a trip to the Indian subcontinent. Just fantabulous!) - Spinach with homemade paneer (a classic dish executed expertly but definitely in a way you can tell was homemade---in the best way!) The staff were two teenage looking kids and their attitude was horrible. I asked for extra gravy for butter chicken since the rice is pretty dry itself, " You know its going to cost you extra right". I added a second pickle after the mango chutney, same response again. For two bowls and a drink, they ran up a total of $53, I dont know how thats possible. When I asked how did the price come to that, the girl in the counter instead of explaining how the price came about that she rudely said " You will pay for this food", excuse me ? who speaks to a customer like that. I have ate here multiple times since Industry city opened since this is kind of my home base and close to HSS. The food is diligent and has the right flavors but my god the staff is rude. I hope the owners are able to see this and replace this type of poor service. read more

We got a veggie bowl here and were pleasantly surprised by how flavorful and tasty all of the veggies options we got were. We got the curried kale and butternut squash (our favorite and most unique), saag paneer, and channa masala. Everything was well spiced and made with care in small batches. Also highly recommend the masala mac and cheese! For vegan options I think a few of the veggie options were completely vegan such as channa masala, and curried kale. Wandered the whole food area in the building, and both my partner and I were drawn back to this spot. Was a bit of a gamble because I haven't really explored the Indian food circuit as much as I have with other types of cuisine, but it smelled flavorful and the food looked good so I figured it was worth a shot! My partner and I both decided to create our own bowl, I got the Pork Vindaloo with saffron basmati rice and she got the Butter Chicken with brown rice. The woman behind the counter graciously warned me the pork would be spicy, but I love spicy food so I got it anyway. Tons of toppings and sauces to choose from! I went with corn, tomatoes and cucumbers. I also got a green mango drink, and my partner got the mango lassi. The bowls were great. The employee did not lie! The vindaloo was very spicy; but no more spicy than you'd expect from a halal truck. If you've ever had juicy platters in NJ the spice level was very similar to their red sauce. Wasn't too fond of the green mango drink, but even the owner admitted it was a little experimental and kind of salty. This is definitely going to be a go-back every week or two kind of place for us. Had mild sticker shock when both meals and two drinks came out at $50. But that's the price you pay for well curated food and good ingredients. Overall this is a must stop. Located in Industry City the location is pretty ideal. I like the concept similar to chipotle but with India food. However I was questioning by the mixture of pork and beef options which is not traditionally part of Indian cooking. Of the options there are many other delicious Indian dishes particularly vegetarian ones that they could have had instead. There are other chicken dishes that could have been better options. The lentils were good but the paneer was ok. The flavors were mostly there so definitely appreciate that. Service is friendly. Overall food and concept are good but nothing mind-blowing. read more
