As someone who has lived in this area for her entire life - I must tell you that I love Ashoka Grill. I live even closer to them now and have the opportunity to walk by often....My son and I are often tempted to just pop in for some quick samosas as an afternoon treat... although we are HUGE fans of their Chicken and Lamb Biryani... the lamb being my Mum's fav... it's just about all that we order each time (along with some appetizers/salad/naan/etc).. although I've had many of their other dishes. Even when I just pop in for samosas....the head waiter/manager always sits me down like I'm family... brings me some papadum and a little mango lassi while I wait.. It's so lovely to be treated warmly...for a simple take out order. Their naans are fluffy.... meats are well seasoned... Tandoori chicken is juicy..never dry!. Poori bread is perfect......chutneys...and sauces are bright.. I always get extra tamarind sauce.. :) I can easily spend $50 to $60 here weekly if I allowed myself... Good Indian is hard to find... so even though it may seem unassuming from the outside - you won't regret coming in....or ordering for delivery. Called this place to order delivery for my family. A man picks up, asks me my address which is 1.9 miles away. He then asks me how much money im going to spend which I thought was very rude. I told him I was ordering 3 dishes and a bunch of appetizers. He says "okay I will place your order but charge you $10." The food is pretty freakin fantastic. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. It's very easy to find right on Flatbush Ave just a few blocks from Brooklyn College. My friend and I came here for some good Indian food and that is exactly what we got! She ordered the chicken Tandoori and I got my standard chicken tikka masala for $11. Both were really really good. Especially the chicken tandoori! The food took forever to come but when it did, it was well cooked and fresh off the grill. My pet peeves: I'm not sure if someone called out for the night or if they usually are not busy but there seemed to be 3 people on staff that night: 1 person cooking, 1 person making deliveries, and one person waiting tables/answering phones. This annoyed me because it made the service a little slow, keep in mind, there was only one other party in the whole place and service was still slow. If the food wasn't so damn good I'd give this place two stars. The delivery dude continuously opened the door, understandably, but this invited the 15 degree weather to come in and greet us which wasn't fun. All in all, if you want amazing authentic Indian food for a good price. Please do come here. It is worth the wait. I will be back here since the food is delicious and since it's right in the neighborhood :) Honestly, even if it wasn't in my neighborhood I'd make the effort to come back. This is my go to spot in the neighborhood when I want Indian food. This review is only based on my takeout experience. Ordering takeout from Ashoka is always a pleasant, simple and satisfying experience. I have never had a problem and the food always arrives, quickly and delicious. It's almost just as good as being there and eating in the restaurant. I have sampled many of their dishes and I truly can't complain about one. The chicken tiki masala is amazing, the curry dishes are all amazing and samosas and nann bread are always perfect. You wouldn't expect that with delivery but like I said they definitely take pride in their food and it shows. The price point is fair but for what you get it really doesn't compare. Everything here is perfectly seasoned never too spicy or bland but just the perfect amount of spice in every dish. They also have the option to adjust the spice level when you place your order which is really great! If you are bored with your Friday night wings and pizza, give this place a try you won't be disappointed. ***UPDATE*** I recently actually came into the restaurant to eat and it was so wonderful. The manager was the sweetest! I felt as if I had been invited into his home. He even brought out free appetizers and deserts for us to try. The food as always was fresh and delicious. We order from Ashoka every few weeks when I'm not in the mood to cook. Our favorite platters are the lamb Korma, chicken Korma, tandoori chicken, and salmon curry. All delicious. The naan and samosas are delivered hot and freshly made. The korma has just enough spice without being overwhelming, and the tandoori chicken is moist. Can't speak for the curry, but my husband says its spice is nice. Every once in awhile, the spice may vary slightly in a dish, or there is a slightly less portion of meat in the Korma (especially if you order close to closing time). Something to keep in mind. Their take out delivery is very prompt. We had one occasion where there was rice and mango lassi missing from our order... the business owner was very apologetic and had his delivery guy back with the items in 10 minutes. I'm all for local businesses that strive for quality and customer service. Ashoka is our go-to for delicious takeout. read more

I just moved here as a student at Brooklyn college and I absolutely love this place. I'm very picky and this is my go to spot. The people are so nice and the food is amazing. I almost always order delivery but today I went in to pick up and like everyone else my experience was extremely pleasant. Took mom here for Mother's Day, we were skeptical at first, but Ashoka Indian Grill came through!!! The Samosa is a perfect starter for any group.... Then we followed up with Rice, Paratha, Lamb Vindaloo and Goat Vindaloo The dishes were SPICY, but perfect and tasty, full of FLAVOR! This hidden gem on Flatbush Avenue is worth a go-to or UberEats order. I've gone twice and haven't been disappointed by the food once. I've had the chicken curry, the shrimp tandoori and the malai. While somewhat different, the cheese poori is worth a try. I will say the mango lassi is different than what I am used to but I've never been to India so I don't know if this is what an authentic lassi tastes like while other restaurants add sweetener to theirs. I will say the kulfi also was different than what I'm accustomed but good nonetheless. The staff is also very nice. read more

I found that coming to school by Brooklyn college there was a shortage of restaurants that I was interested in trying and way to many fast food places, so I was really happy when I found this place that was walking distance from school and that I could go get some really great food at in the neighborhood. The food here is delicious and thoughtfully prepared as I have asked them to modify dishes to my liking before and they were more than happy to accommodate me. I love the naan bread and large selection of vegetarian dishes that they have. My only complaint is that the service is a bit slow, which is not completely a bad thing because they take the time to prepare great food but If you are in a hurry between classes or on a lunch break from work I suggest taking it to go. read more

This place is TERRIBLE. My friends and I ordered delivery, only to be waiting an hour for delivery to arrive. By the time it did, they didn't even give us utensils. The owner ACTUALLY had the nerve to say, "customers are supposed to ask us for forks and knives" ! We weren't at home or an office with nearby establishments where we could just quickly get utensils to eat with. We literally had to WAIT another 40 minutes for their slow asses to bring us our utensils. EVERY restaurant I've ordered delivery from supplies forks and knives without having to be asked. The management here must be dumb to think customers actually have to ASK for utensils in order to receive utensils to EAT their food. Or, they clearly must be just stingy. read more

The food is always fresh, flavorful and ample portions. The delivery guys are always friendly and come with a smile. This little hole in the wall in the middle of nowhere on Flatbush Avenue is absolutely delicious! The ambience inside is nothing to write home about but if you're looking for damn good Indian food, get your butt over here. The manager doesn't hear too well and doesn't speak the best English, so it can be a little frustrating placing the order but if you could put that aside, your palette will be much pleased! Because he's the only one there, just talk loudly and slowly and make sure he repeats the order to you and you'll be fine. I drive all the way from Sheepshead Bay once a week for his food. Being Indian and living in Midwood, BK means we have a lot of bagels, sushi and pizza around town. Craving some Indian food after a long day of work--GrubHub came to the rescue and offered Ashoka's menu to my hungry eyes. While their delivery time is usually a bit off (they take a bit long to deliver) their food is pretty good. I'd definitely recommend their Keema Naan (minced meat inside yummy naan). It's SO good. For weeks my roommate and I waited for this place to open up. Everyday we would walk past and stare into the window hoping to see signs of progress. When they finally opened, they did NOT disappoint. The food was worth it. The food is incredible. The chicken biryani is definitely the best I've had on Flatbush Ave, and it is better than the biryani you get in Little Pakistan on Coney Island Ave. The food is not too greasy; it's clearly cooked with care for ingredients and perfect flavor. I've traveled to India and I can attest for the quality of this food. The appetizers are always fresh and piping hot, even if you have them delivered. We have dined in, ordered take out and had it delivered--excellent on all fronts. Not only is the food amazing, but the owners are so incredibly sweet. The woman who does most of the cooking even included little containers of rice pudding for free for us. They also did a great job with the decor. It's a modest building/place but they really put a lot of effort into the details of the place settings. So cute. I love this place and will be frequenting it every week. Amazing. An Indian restaurant that's actually owned and operated by Indian people. The food is great. I got the chicken tikka masala with Naan, as I don't like basmati rice and it was amazing. It had a ton of flavor and they gave me enough to last two days. I'll definitely be going back for the samosas and the mango lassi was also AMAZING. The pricing was right, the staff was great and welcoming when I went in there to pick up my food. When it comes to the atmosphere of the restaurant it's definitely casual, it's nothing fancy, but that's how I like it anyway. Consistent reviews don't lie. I came here for dinner with a friend for the first time. It was highly recommended to me for quite a while but living in Long Island, it was hard for me to make the drive here. One word: LEGIT (and I eat out at many different Indian restaurants). Banana pakora for an appetizer. Really tasty a worth the try! The garlic naan was fresh, soft and not burnt at all (as opposed to other places I have been to). Saag curry is one of my favorite Indian dishes and this places honestly perfects it. Chicken korma was made very nicely with the chicken soft and not dried out. A must get is the tandoori chicken. Again, it was not burnt like many other restaurants, not dried out at all and very very flavorful. And the best of all... It is NOT DRENCHED IN OIL like many other Indian restaurants that I have been to. The mango lassi was not too sweet and made just right. If there was anything better than the food, it would be the owners. The couple working at the restaurant are very genuine people. Best Indian food in the neighborhood! Excellent food, excellent service. My only quibble would be that the chef specialties are often inconsistent. For instance, the mustard chicken was amazing the first time I got it: creamy and nuanced flavors, but the next few times I've gotten it not nearly as good and not the same: more like regular tomato curry. I also wish the chicken was cut in slightly smaller pieces and not so cooked. But really good food nonetheless. read more
