Hadn't been to Jalapeños in about seven years, rediscovered why I stayed away. Yikes, the asada burrito I had was so bland, the beans were like gruel, and the rice had no flavor. Nothing. No spice. The only thing that was decent was the green sauce on the burrito. I also don't appreciate the cashier asking if I wanted my change back before I even give my payment. Too many other great restaurant choices around in Anchorage and that includes food trucks. Ambiance was about the same, but there was a band. read more

Service and ambience are good. It's a new location which has been remodeled beautifully. The food is okay depending on what you order. The Burria Tacos are just okay, however, I FOUND A PIECE OF METAL IN MY Burria Taco MEAL TONIGHT. I brought it to the owners attention and he paid for my meal. He said the wire was from the metal brush that they clean the grill with. He apologized but I'm truly concerned I may have ingested a piece. I'm not sure if I should contact an attorney. Love Jalepeños. They are friendly with good food. I've ordered for my students before and they are always smooth with delivery. Today I picked up a to-go order and didn't check the bag before I left. The Que Rico cheese wasn't in there when I got home, so I called just to ask if they would let me pick up an order of it tomorrow (I was way too tired to get back in the car). A good place to get a Tex-Mex lunch special in Eagle River. Prices were good, but portions were a little small for me. Food was lacking in any sort of heat, odd for a place named after chili peppers! My wife: wanna get tacos? Me: Is the Pope, Catholic? My wife: wanna try somewhere besides Garcia's? Me: Blasphemy!! That was my thought when my wife suggested we try one of the other two Mexican restaurants in town. I'm glad we did. The environment was great and the food was delicious. Food: 1. The guacamole was fresh and flavorable. The avocados and spices weren't drowned in salt like so many other guacamole's. 2. The carne asada was seasoned well and was cooked with a little pink inside so the juiciness wasn't lost. 3. Tortillas were big!! 4. Beans and rice were your typical fare. 5. Depending on the bite, the pico had some SPICE to it. I loved getting the bites with the jalapeño. 6. The chips came with two salsas. The hot one actually had some extra spice to it, but really it was just more flavorful than the mild. It was very good. Environment: 1. Comfy chairs 2. Colorful paintings on the wall. 3. Screens for watching sports at lots of good angles. Service was mostly solid though a little hit and miss. For instance, my wife has knocked the fork off the table when we sat down and it took a while to get a replacement one. I think the only downside may be that they got my order wrong. Im a chef myself and so is my boyfriend and we've been chefs for many years. (currently working at corks and hops) and wanted to try the new location. We make better mexican food ourselves at home and work. Every single thing we ordered had ZERO flavor we were shocked with how flavorless everything was. Only 2 salsa options, the "spicy" salsa tasted like mild. No spice. We got nachos as an appetizer... they came almost cold cheese was hard and they had no flavor. I ordered a Pineapple martini, and it was also the worst drink I've ever had. Straight juice and tasted NO ALCOHOL. not one bit of alcohol. My boyfriend got the tacos with chorizo /steak supposed to have onions & cilantro w it as well, they tasted like nothing. No seasoning and no onions or cilantro just dry a** pork with no flavor. they were also TINY he said he would need 15 of them to be full. A literal kids meal for $22. I got the birria tacos, and ive never been so livid. Also not hot, the cheese was so processed it was like gummy gelatin and once again all of it had NO FLAVOR!!!!!! I was so confused how the consommé and tacos both tasted like nothing just tortilla. WHERE IS TJE SEASONING???? WHERE IS THE AUTHENTIC FLAVOR??? NOT EVEN SALT. I couldnt even eat my tacos or the nachos they were so bad. Taco bell has more flavor then this place. I also got a side of rice... which tasted like it came from a premade box from the store. We left hungry and had to go somewhere else to get food after. SPENT $83!!!!!! for shi* we couldnt even eat. absolutely horrible. My wife and I are for the lunch specials. They are very reasonably priced and each comes with tic and beans. But if you shop are Fred Meyer's you're Checkout Receipt may have a coupon for two for one lunch specials with two drinks. You can't beat that deal. The same friendly service and great tasting authentic Mexican food. Service is fast and friendly. Jalapeños serves the best Mexican food in Anchorage or Eagle River. Family operated and you may find one of the owners serving you. I'm going to be honest I heard good things and went to try it. I am from Texas and my Mexican cuisine is very picky. Right off the bat I thought the chips and salsa were not very good and I was starting to feel like I was about to have a bad experience. However, the food itself was fantastic. I got shrimp tacos and they were absolutely perfect. I was so hyped about the food that I ate half my friends food that he did not finish and then ordered the large plate of sopapillas. You need to ask if you are plant based or vegan, or if you have allergies, but generally there are several accommodations to choose from. After several years living in Eagle River I can't believe this is the first time I've tried this place. Chepo's has always been our "go to" but the last several times we've gone there, they just keep getting worse. We needed a new Mexican favorite in town. Obviously with the restrictions right now we did not get the dining experience but I will definitely be going back to try that out. We ordered to go food and I wanted to try multiple things to give a fair rating. I'm usually a one dish type of girl but this time I changed it up. Here's the breakdown...taquito and flauta were both very good. The rice and beans were very good. The enchilada was good. The tamale was not good. It had a smoky flavor that wasn't my favorite but that's just my preference. My husband had the burrito asada and he said it was good, the green sauce is better at Chepo's. They even included chips and salsa and I loved that! The mild salsa is tasty, the hot salsa wasn't hot and I didn't like the flavor, but again...preference. I was actually impressed with it overall and I am excited to go back and try dining in once things open up! read more

We ordered for delivery. I have to say, all the people saying go to Taco Bell on this restaurants reviews either are insane or do not truly know authentic Mexican food. I feel like it's a direct slam to this restaurant itself from it's competition. The beans were fresh, the Spanish rice was fresh and tasty. My husband's carne burrito was fat. My tacos were full of fresh, tender meat. This place is excellent. My advice is to keep the cook you have right now at this moment, keep consistent and realize the negative reviews for this place are just a slam for no apparent reason. Just completed an online takeout order. I added a few extra notes requesting things like lettuce and tomato, and chicken on our tacos & quesadilla. Neither of the requests were honored. Apparently they cost a little extra, so on a $127 order they left off the requested items. When I called to ask about this the gentleman who answered the phone said that he read the items but instead just didn't do anything about it. His quote was "well I ahhhh......" then a long uncomfortable silence. He had my number and my email, but chose to do nothing. I like this restaurant, and the service is usually good, but if a repeat customer isn't worth an extra $5 (at the most) in lettuce, tomato, and shredded chicken then I guess they do not want repeat business. read more

The pros: the decor and ambiance is very nice and authentic Mexican! The food is quite good and the wait staff very friendly. The menu is great with plenty of authentic Mexican food and beverage choices with a full bar. The cons: Somewhere between the kitchen and the table there seems to be a breakdown. By the time food gets out it's cold or luke warm by the time it makes it to the table. I could let it go if it was only once but last week the same problem. The order took forever and then it was cold. Coagulated cheese in an Enchilada or Chili Relleno is not that great. (And why have a cheese enchilada and chili relleno in the same combo? Too much cheese!) not just at Jalapeños, most mexican restaurants offer the same combination. All that said, Jalapeños is still on my list of places I like to eat but given the other Mexican choices in Eagle River Jalapeños is my last resort. This place used to be great but it's suffering now. I hope they can get their act together again and return to being a great little Mexican restaurant. read more

I recently had a celebration dinner here for about 25 people. The Jalapeños staff was super professional, welcoming, and accommodating. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was fun! There was no rental fee for using the space next to the bar and we were able to order off the regular menu. I highly recommend Jalapeños for any event you might need a space for. Other restaurants we called wanted anywhere from $1500 to $2500 for the space and food. Our final bill was $600. read more

Excellent service, yummy hot food, flexible to prepare how you like it. We had burritos and chicken flautas. We added Ranchito sauce and sliced avocados to the carnitas burrito and it was so yummy and meat was very tender and not fatty at all. My son rated the bean and cheese burrito as 8 out of 10, and we are from San Diego where Mexican food is plentiful. Chicken flautas had white meat chicken and my other son rated them a 9 out of 10. I dare say this is our favorite place for Mexican cuisine in the area. My husband and I have not been disappointed in one dish we've had from here. We love that they offer dine-in and delivery. Prices are affordable, especially for two. The margaritas are worth it and come in fun flavor combinations. My favorite dish is the mini Asada tacos. I always ask for extra lime. Portions are just the right amount of filling. The Sopapillas are such a yummy comfort dessert dish, too. Our only gripe is about the spicy salsa. I don't do a lot of spicy food, but I do enjoy spicy salsa, and their's is sadly not spicy. Everything else we have had from them is very much worth ordering. read more

My family and I headed to Jalapenos after my brother and I finished the Eagle River Triathlon. I immediately went for the Beer-garita, which tasted delicious. The mini coronas that they prop up in the glass are so cute! The service at the restaurant was incredible! I feel like the average restaurant service in Alaska is pretty terrible so it was nice to have a server who always had our drinks filled and our chips and salsa full on the table, despite the place being pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon. I ordered the chicken fajitas and I thought they were quite tasty. It was a huge order and I was only able to eat two fajitas, but I took the rest to go and my boyfriend ate them for lunch the next day and said they were good even reheated. read more
