It is a slow Monday. Just us and one other lady outside with her dog. We didn't have to wait long for service. Staff was friendly. Ribeye steak was deliciously done at medium rare. Coupled really nicely with our old fashioneds. Our doggies were happy and fed. Will definitely come again when we're in Tehachapi! read more

SECOND UPATE: I sent a message to the restaurant via FB messenger about her crazy remark that me quoting the law is a sign my dog is not a legitimate service dog. In all patheticness and weakness on her part she blocks me instead of doing what every other business professional should do which is offer an apology for making a mistake. Here is U.S.C. Title 42 that says, "ii) a failure to make reasonable modifications in policies, practices, or procedures, when such modifications are necessary to afford such goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, or accommodations to individuals with disabilities, unless the entity can demonstrate that making such modifications would fundamentally alter the nature of such" Giving us the half circle booth does NOT alter their fundamental business AND MANDATES THE BUSINESSES POLICIES MUST BE MODIFIED TO ACCOMMODATE THE DISABLED PERSON. My dog is best protected by being in that booth off of the floor and the circular shape helps to support me better when I am having vertigo and dizziness. UPDATE: See the owners response below. She calls me ignorant, but the only ignorance is that she thinks her policy of how she wants to seat people according to the number of the party Trump's state and federal law for medical accommodations and in no way shape or form does it Trump the law. The U.S.C. Title 42 states she MUST MODIFY HER SEATING POLICY TO ACCOMMODATE THE DISABLED PERSON. She speaks of how people have brought in fake service dogs that bark. GUESS WHAT LADY-CFR's (CODES OF FEDERAL REGULATION) apply to businesses and say you must do an individualized assessment of each service dog that comes in and cannot treat one person with a service dog based upon a prior experience of a different service dog. This is to protect the individual rights of each service dog handler/owner. LASTLY-if you think quoting the law is a sign that someone service dog is not legitimate. You clearly need a psychiatric evaluation done. I know the law because it's my career field. It's the field that I work in on behalf of lawyers that employ me. So I know this area of the law extremely well. For you to say my service dog is not legitimate because I know the law simply tells me that you feel like I'm a threat to you because if you don't follow the law I can easily come after your restaurant and file a complaint with the county and a state against your business, so your only recourse of defense to not feel weak is to try to say my service is not legitimate and that would only make you look like a total fool because I HAVE PAPERWORK FROM THE COUNTY THAT SHOWS THE COUNTY GAVE MY DOG A SERVICE DOG LICENSE. To get that license I had to prove her training was legitimate as well as my medical needs. . SOOOO keep talking your foolishness about how my dog is not legitimate. It will only embarrass you further. PS-I actually did get what I asked for because the person who answered the phone understood that state and federal law comes before any seating policy that you may desire to have. But I put this up so that other dog owners who have real service dogs like myself and paid thousands of dollars for their service dog are aware of the mentality at your business so that they can avoid it if they don't feel like dealing with it. Your cushioned booth in the back room are not as cushioned as the half circle booth upfront and it benefits me with how they are curved so that when I have episodes of vertigo, my husband is right next to me and I can easily lean against him and he is right there And the curve also holds me upright better than a straight wall cushion like in your back room. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I'm giving a 3 star despite how much I love this place because they have become ignorant with the law. Jake's thinks they can FORCE PEOPLE WITH SERVICE DOGS TO SIT IN THE BACK!! Federal ADA law says you CANNOT treat a disabled customer different or do differential treatment in the essence of quality due to disabilities. THIS MEANS when I come in with my service dog you CANNOT shove me in the back room simply because its your policy! If I want to sit at the half circle booth up front because it helps my back pain (most comfortable cushion) and works to keep my service dog tucked out of the way then you must accommodate because my response for sitting in those 4 booths is disability related. Time to change your policy to comply with state and federal law. read more

It is always a pleasure and treat to be at Jake's. The employees are super and the food is amazing and prepared to perfection.

I have been here many times, and the good is always good. They help you pair just the right wine with your meal and are friendly. We usually don't make a reservation just show up and are seated without a fuss. Thank you to the chef for perfect steak every time. read more

Had dinner here with some friends and was a great experience. I had the sugar brine pork chop, and it was fantastic. The flavor the tenderness and being brined with the sugar really makes a difference in the pork chop and my wife had the peppered strip steak and it was great. The ambience of the whole dinner was nice and I recommended what a great steakhouse locally here. read more

Came in tonight after making a reservation earlier in the day. Our server was Cody and he was an ABSOLUTE DELIGHT! He offered us local sourdough bread which was amazing and warm. I ordered the salmon with a honey glaze on it with veggies and fries instead of rice pilaf (because I shared them with my daughter). My daughter got the kids grilled cheese which was on the sourdough and so delicious. My parents got the salmon as well and steak. Everything was so delicious we didn't take pictures because we couldn't wait to taste. It's cozy and nice inside and just amazing service. Highly recommend and make sure to make reservations. Next time I will take pictures. read more

Wow! My wife and I stopped in on a Friday night hoping for some good food. We were blown away by the amazing prime rib and lasagna. We put some dessert down on top of it for good measure. Can't recommend enough. Atmosphere was pleasant and romantic and we felt well cared for by the staff. If you get a chance, this is a great place for a nice dinner. read more

I have only been to this place twice but now I have made it a must to visit anytime I am in Tehachapi. Although I have only tried the prime rib here, it's one of the best I have ever had. It was recommended to me by the bartender the first time I came here & It was AMAZING, especially w their horseradish sauce. Mashed potatoes were delicious and when I returned a few months later I had to get the same thing & it did not disappoint one bit. 100% recommend giving this place a try when visiting the historic town or Tehachapi. read more

Amazing service and hiker friendly! I was running on 20% battery and Yvonne and Cody SEARCHED EVERYWHERE for a charger and they found one for me! They are amazing angels and went above and beyond to make feel comfortable which is a super plus as a solo female hiker! Also the food is delicious! I'm having the mahi-mahi tacos and the batter is crispy and the sauce on the side adds a bit of sweetness that is not overpowering and balances the dish. Yvonne and Cody, thank so much for taking care of me! You have no idea how much that means to me. If I could give more stars I would. (It's the cranberries! Not the sauce, lol. But still an amazing dish if you are looking for something light) read more

Whenever we go up to Bakersfield for a day trip, we make it a point to hop over to Jake's in Tehachapi for dinner. Our prior experience has been fives, that's why we go. This time? A five and a three. A five for the quality of their steaks, and a three (barely) for the overall dining experience. First, I don't need to see a big warning sign posted in the menu bemoaning your inability to hire staff. It's funny (no, it isn't) how you ask your customers to bear with it, while still maintaining your fully staffed prices. If I have to suffer with slow/reduced service because you're not paying for staff, why should I have to pay full price for a fully staffed operation? But, in fairness, we were there early and the service wasn't slow. It was attentive, and annoying. I made the mistake of opening the wine menu so the waitress took that as an opportunity to push, and keep pushing, the most expensive wine on the menu. BTW, I don't give a damn just because the wine happens to carry a well know director's name (note: their $24 a bottle house cab at 1/2 the cost was excellent). So, we're enjoying the nice HOUSE cab and that's when I notice we've been given paper napkins. Paper napkins, in a fine steakhouse, really? Did you forget to pay your laundry bill? Then we're finishing our salads and it hits me that we weren't served any bread. Simple oversight, right? No. The waitress goes on to explain that they no longer serve free bread. You must now pay $3 per half loaf and $5 for a full loaf of hot sourdough bread. Okay, a loaf of hot sourdough bread is nice, and we want some bread to go with our meal and wine, but we could do without the remarks that the bread they use to serve "came from Albertson's." Is that code for something? What's wrong with Albertson's? Another reviewer from 2/23 mentioned the free stale bread, maybe that's the connection. The bread they served us last time wasn't stale, it was fine. So, now our steaks are served and they are perfect. We cannot fault them on the quality. Finishing up, I'm trying to overlook the minor dings, and the waitress hits me with the news that they add a 3% charge for credit cards. Okay, so you're not a fine steakhouse, you're a friggin gas station. I'm paying $150 for two, and you're looking to nickle and dime me. Since your prices are already high, a few percent increase is not going to be a make or break decision on my part. And I would much rather pay a little more up front and enjoy my meal rather than be subject to this BS that you're pulling. read more

Great atmosphere, wonderful service - food came pretty quick! Food was delicious. I got a couloutte steak and it was amazing.

We finally got around to trying Jake's. The ambiance and service were good , that's where the stars stop, and the disappointment starts. Theire food is quite expensive, but in your mind, as your looking over the menu, you're thinking, " hey well this is a steakhouse that gets good reviews on Yelp." We were actually shocked at how poor the food was. My wife ordered St Louis ribs, and I got the beer battered fish and chips. The ribs came out and looked like they had no char on them and were boiled, with no seasoning. They were tasteless and $25 worth of underwhelming. The ribs arrived with Bbq sauce poured on top right before they came to the table (sauce still cold from the jar). The fish and chips came out and were obviously (previously frozen) and had a heavy greasy taste. I need an EKG now. After a few bites of our dinner, we vowed never to return to Jake's. $4 for a glass of iced tea? Neither of us can understand why this place gets such good reviews or, better yet, how it stays in business. $50 for bland cafeteria food. Sorry Jake's you can't call yourself a steakhouse, charge exorbitant prices, and take the easy way out of cooking and meal prep. read more

My husband works until 7 and we got here about 30 minutes before they closed. We chose this place because they are pet-friendly. The staff was amazing! The patio was already "closed" and they reopened it to accommodate us. The server (I forgot her name), was super sweet. I was told that the Prime Rib that they had left was MW instead of MR, and that they were out of Au Jus- but the Prime Rib was Medium (amazing btw) and the cooks went out of their way to make Au Jus just for me. I wish I had taken a picture of the food (rare that I didn't) but the service was so wonderful. My husband's Ribeye was perfectly cooked and seasoned also. Thank you to everyone that accommodated us on 7/9/2024. read more

This is a late entry but it still holds well. My fiancé daughter and I were greeted by a wonderful hostess who was awesome and sat us during a VERY busy early evening. The wait wasn't long at all and even was kind of nice to just look around and enjoy the environment. Now the place was pretty busy for a mid week evening and I understand all that comes along with it. We were sat in the middle of the room and that's fine because there was a bunch going on in order for us to people watch. After a good amount of time, about 10 mins or so, our waitress greeted us and apologized for the wait and took our orders. I had the pork chop she had the center cut sirloin and the little one had some spaghetti. We also ordered a spinach dip as an appetizer since we were very hungry. After one refill out came our spinach dip arrive at our table and we were all very unimpressed. The chips were the best part but the dip was definitely nothing at all to write home too. The flavor tried its best to be there and the texture and viscosity of the dip alone made it seem soup like or just poor. Some time passed because the kitchen was very backed up again it was a random busy midweek night. Refills were just as slow and we had to to be requested (not to sound like a bhole but it sucked because we were hungry and went through the bread real fast). But our food finally came out after we have cleaned our table a bit. The presentation was ok plain Jane look was equivalent to the taste. It was a let down due to the fact flavor just wasn't there, The pork chop was thin and the veggies were bland the potatoes are were the best part sadly. The steak was ok a little over medium rare but again the flavor wasn't there not even the butter flavor that you should get at a steak house. My daughters pasta was good that was a plus, all in all the place wasn't worth the bill. The people were amazing and the environment was cool. I wish it was worth the bill, which was over $100. I don't think I would recommend this place to much folks or I dunno if I would give this place a try again. read more

Good food, but not GREAT food. My wife and I both had the prime rib, and it was good, but spiced with something.. can't really say what it was. I prefer my beef unflavored. The vegetable was green beans with some onions. Again, spiced with.... something. Some pepper, and something else. I really don't like black pepper. The service was excellent. The bread was EXCELLENT. Yes, I would certainly go again. I'll probably try a steak next time. You WILL need reservations! It's a small place. read more

I have been at this restaurant several times and have enjoyed not only amazing food but also excellent service! The food is priced so well considering the quality and large portions. I recommend the fresh bread, bbq ribs, salads and especially the prime rib soup. I will be returning to try their other menu items. In additon, their wine menu is outstanding! Considering the quality of their wine list, the prices are really good (don't have to pay $20/glass compared to other restaurants). The bar area is very pretty and comfortable. I recommend this place highly, especially for those traveling through this pretty mountain area! read more

Very disappointing.. my God what are you guys doing? Was there for a company party. I get that a large party can be difficult but wow. The male server had the worst attitude. Unapologetic and zero customer service. Not a smile, thank you, sorry nothing but a look of why are you asking me for anything.. The female was good. Then the food.. my mistake was not ordering steak at a steakhouse and ordering chicken. It came with shrimp in a sauce atop the chicken with two limp sorry lookong peices of asparagus. If you ever had a shrimp cup of noodles, that's what it looked and tasted like. It was a free dinner, I'm so glad I did not pay for that. My wife did order a steak, that was not good either. How do you effup a steak??! Needless to say, I will never go there again, not even for a free dinner. I rather eat a bologna sandwich. I feel bad for the people who think this place is good..... read more

My husband and I went in a little bit ago to try this place and the reviews seemed promising - this place has a nice little environment, even though it's really cramped. Our waitress was nice and we were seated shortly after we got there. The menu prices are expensive, so I was expecting some decent food to match it. We were given bread to snack on before our meals came out, and for a steakhouse, you would expect fresh baked bread that's crispy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside. This bread was the equivalent to a cold, dry walmart french roll - which I honestly think it was. The food was mediocre at best. My husband got the steak which he said was okay but he could definitely cook it better at home. I got the shrimp scampi and was pretty disappointed. The shrimp itself was cooked fine, but there was absolutely no flavor. The butter itself that the shrimp were in had no flavor as well, almost watery. Very little seasoning as well, and if there isn't much seasoning, at least the butter should have a nice flavor to it. Not to mention the 4 shrimp that came at the really high price point - which I would've been fine with if it was actually good. I got a side of mashed potatoes with it and again, absolutely no flavor and not warm. I wouldn't come back here based on our experience. I was really hoping to find a new fine dining spot based on the reviews, but we left pretty disappointed. This is definitely the kind of food that you can cook a lot better at home. read more
