Big midget sandwich and Ribs (full Rack)

The food here is amazing and spot on. The staff and owner are super nice. I went here after the owner posted a social media post defending their staff after rude customers were creepy and immature. The food was great. Excellent BBQ place, and just awesome and friendly staff. Will definitely go back again

I was spending time with friends, and they wanted to come here for dinner. I haven't eaten here in so many years. For me, the smoke on the meat is too strong and upsets my stomach, so I just had ice tea while they ate. They seemed to enjoy their meals. Then today, I stopped by to see my friend at her work and offered to pick her up lunch. She picked here for a tri-tip sandwich. So two days in a row I was here after not being here for ten years. 11/29/25

Great BBQ, the beef ribs are a safe bet, the pastrami is very good as well. The service is friendly and pretty quick. The decor is quite eclectic, very original. They have a full bar and honestly we stop in whenever in Tehachapi.

We came here for a late lunch on Wednesday. And I assumed it would be pretty quiet but it was packed. We did have to wait a while but once we got seated we were served right away. My boys got the kids pulled chicken sandwich, my mom got the tri tip sandwich with green coleslaw and I got the pulled pork sandwich with okra as the side. I loved all of the food. Next time I come here though I may ask for the meat without the bread. It just gets soggy from all the delicious sauce. The okra was fire.

Awesome BBQ and Smoked Meat! Small place so be patient! The brisket is thick sliced and the tri tip was very tender. Would definitely recommend.

Still the best BBQ around. I drive 45 minutes out of my way to go to Red House whenever I can. It's small and quirky, and always worth it.

Food is great. Pull pork is tasty, now the brisket was to die for! Brisket just melts in your mouth. Wife loved the Mac and cheese oh and the onion rings are perfect. Overall, the ambiance is nice and mild western gold rush settings. Love it. We had two waitress and they mother were very nice and attentive. I highly recommend y'all to come try this place out in the beautiful city of Tehachapi Cal

Extremely busy when we went tonight, not a seat unfilled we waited for about 20 minutes to be seated outside in the patio section as there's no standing room. The restaurant itself seemed to clean as well as the restroom. The staff was very friendly, welcoming, and made sure we were taken care of. The food was great wasn't our first choice, but it sounds like they ran out of a lot of stuff. We will definitely be back to try some more later more to come..

Still one of the best spots in the area for BBQ. This us my first visit since they switched to table service and it went very smoothly. There were plenty of open tables when we arrived at 5 but they were filling up quick by 6. Hubby loved his beef ribs and left quite the boneyar behind. MiL liked the catfish but wished it had a bit more seasoning though she usually likes things very salty, to be fair. I really liked the tender pork ribs and well seasoned fries. The shrimp actually had a bit too much salt for me, but they were nicely cooked. I definitely recommend a visit if you want something rustic and hearty. No plating with tweezers here!

Best bbq in California. The meat is so tender, juicy, and fresh. The homemade bbq sauces are packed with so much flavor. The Mac & cheese was so creamy & so addicting. I wish the cornbread was a bit warmer but that's just a preference. It's perfect just how it's made. We ordered fried pickles to start and boy oh boy they were tasty. My family was beyond pleased with their dishes and combo meat plates. Everyone is so welcoming and accommodating. We were seated pretty fast and the food came at a reasonable time. Everything about Red House BBQ just felt comforting. Definitely will be back.

    Is the seafood boil year-round?

The Seafood Boil goes from Spring to usually mid October as the weather becomes too cold to continue to offer it.

Do you still make the green Apache chili?

Absolutely! When all the ingredients come into season, that's when we make it. There will be a batch made within the next month! We post it on our Facebook page. It goes fast!

The interior decor was a lot of fun to see, and the owners clearly take pride in their interior design. This place is known for the prime rib. I very rarely order prime rib from anywhere but I thought I'd try it. The soup was a mushroom-type soup and it was delicious and filling. I would have been left extremely satisfied had I only had the soup. The prime rib was tender and tasty. Fries were also delicious. The waitress kept checking on us and made sure our glasses remained full. We felt like she genuinely enjoyed working there.

After being seated, it took an unusually long time just to receive our drinks. Unfortunately, things only got worse from there. Once we placed our food order, we waited over an hour before our meals finally arrived. During that time, there was very little communication or effort to keep us updated on the delay. To make matters worse, when the bill arrived, we discovered a 3% credit card surcharge that had never been mentioned by our server. There was no verbal notification, and it felt like an unpleasant surprise at the end of an already frustrating meal. We also noticed an automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill. We understand and support automatic gratuities for larger parties when appropriate. However, when the service is poor, drinks take an excessive amount of time to arrive, and food takes over an hour after ordering, automatically charging a 20% tip feels excessive and unwarranted. A long wait can sometimes be understandable when a restaurant is busy, but poor communication, unexpected fees, and mandatory gratuity despite subpar service made for a very disappointing experience. Based on this visit, I would not return and cannot recommend Jake's Steakhouse.

Tuesday, March 10th, we traveled to Bakersfield to pick up a vehicle I had purchased, and of course had to stop by Kohnen's. It is difficult to walk away without a mini-pie (try them all, but blackberry is freaking amazing!!). As always, Danelle was there with her typical congeniality and work ethic! We love her!! I visited Kohnen's Bakery Tehachapi yesterday with my family, and this was honestly one of the…read moreworst customer service experiences I've ever had. I only purchased two items -- one cream puff and one slice of cheesecake -- but the cashier charged my card THREE times due to repeated mistakes. Here's exactly what happened: 1) My first card (Card A) was charged $11.20. The cashier asked me if I wanted a receipt, and I said yes. Then she told me the receipt didn't come out because the transaction "didn't go through," and asked me to provide my card again. 2) I gave the same card again, and this time she charged $11.69. 3) Then again, she told me that it didn't go through, so I used a different debit card (Card B), which was charged $11.20. While sitting at the table with my family, I immediately checked my bank account and thought I had only been charged twice. I spoke to a staff member at the store and requested a refund for one of the $11.20 charges, which was processed. However, today I realized I had actually been charged three times, meaning there was still another $11.20 that needed to be refunded. So I called the bakery and asked to speak with a manager. I spoke with someone named Danielle. I calmly explained the entire situation and told her I would send all my receipts and bank transaction records by email so they could double-check and confirm everything. She said ok and gave me their email address, but it was very long, and I was concerned about making a mistake while writing it down. So I politely asked if she could text me the email address instead. Her response was extremely rude -- she said, "I'm not required to do that," and told me to just write it down myself if I had a pen and paper. Although I was already uncomfortable with her attitude, I carefully wrote it down and sent the email. However, the email bounced back as invalid, even though I had confirmed the spelling with her multiple times over the phone. When I called again, Danielle answered and said, "Ma'am," in a very dismissive tone, and told me that they had found the three charges and had already processed refunds for both $11.20 transactions. I tried to confirm which card the refund was going to, since I used two different cards, but after putting me on hold for a long time, she read off a card number that was not mine. When I told her that wasn't my card, she insisted those were the only transactions for $11.20 yesterday and told me to "check my bank in a few days" and call back if the refund doesn't show up. And, she didn't apologize for the mistake, even though they charged my cards three times and wasted a significant amount of my time. Even yesterday, when I asked for an apology, I only received one reluctantly after I pointed out that they had made a mistake -- and even then, the response was dismissive, as if I should just accept it because they were "taking care of it." The attitude throughout this entire situation was rude, unprofessional, and extremely frustrating. The cheesecake was very good. But because of this experience, I would never come back. We drove all the way from Los Angeles to Tehachapi with my family, expecting a pleasant visit, but this bakery completely ruined the day. Being charged a total of $34.09 for just two small items due to repeated errors is unacceptable. If your staff cannot properly process payments, they should not be working as cashiers. Situations like this should never happen. What's even worse is that after making multiple mistakes, there was not a single sincere apology -- only attitude, dismissiveness, and instructions for me to keep checking my bank and call back again. My time is valuable. This entire situation could have been avoided if things were handled properly from the beginning. This was an extremely unpleasant experience, and I am very disappointed. Cf) For reference, the other $16.05 receipt is for bread that my brother purchased.
