Came here for the first time with my family and my toddlers to check out their barbecue. We didn't eat much and put the leftovers to go. So I saved some of their watered down "SWEET N SMOKY" Sauce with our to go boxes and a RUDE OLD MAN came over to tell us that they charge $4 for the sauce. My husband apologized and told him we didnt know and what the man did was he ordered the cash registrar to hand us another $4 charge for the sauce and thats when we got up and told them we are leaving the sauce they can have it. It was even nothing compared to Lucille's BBQ SAUCE. Not only that he humiliated us, I aready paid ahead and even left a tip on top of their 3% credit card charge. For those first timers who are looking to go to this place, their BBQ is dry. And bland. So you will need to pour over a hella their watered down bbq sauces to finish it. And for the old man with the long white hair and beard standing at the alcohol counter, you probably own or manage the store, yeah you can have all the sauce at your place we are never coming back or even recommend people to go there and be treated the way you treated us. Red House is a cool local spot in Tehachapi. They're known for their bbq and didn't disappoint. Food was good. We tried the brisket, pulled pork, chili, and mac n cheese. Good all around. A few different bbq sauces to complement meats - spicy, sweet, and mild. I personally liked the sweet and mild. The serving was enough to take leftovers home. A group of us on motorcycles stopped at this place for lunch. First time being there for me. There are several other BBQ places we eat at around SoCal. Most do not impress me. THIS ONE DOES! I ordered the brisket sandwich that came with a side salad and ordered blue cheese dressing. The sandwich was really good and juicy! I also ordered pulled pork AND pastrami sandwiches "to go" so that my girlfriend and I could try some other ones at a later time. I had brought some gallon Ziplock bags with me just for that purpose! Turns out, they were out of pastrami! :-( They were very accommodating in packaging the food to go that would transport on a motorcycle. My wife and I chowed in the Red House on our way to Vegas. As we walked in the place was fairly busy with customers enjoying their meals and others waiting for theirs. The smell of the smokers and smoked meats was fantastic! I ordered a brisket sandwich on brioche bun, it came with a piece of cornbread, and a small bag of chips. I also added a side of mac n cheese...because brisket with mac is a must. My food was awesomely deeelish! My wife ordered a smoked chicken cobb salad with cornbread on the side. We went on a Wednesday evening. The service was terrible. It appeared that the servers did not have assigned tables. Once we did order, the food was played very quickly. After receiving the food, no server ever came by our table again. No drink refills, no missing cornbread. The chili was awful, no depth of flavor, just tasted like chili powder. My husband said his brisket and beans were good. The environment was fine. So if you want takeout, but don't want chili, then maybe you would like this place. Such an easy drive from Bakersfield. You totally NEED to make a stop here. I got the two meat plate. It probably could feed two people but I would just take home the leftovers and finish it for yourself. I've had it twice already as leftovers and it still tastes just as good. I got the brisket and trip tip. The tri tip was good but my favorite was the brisket. I would get double brisket it was that good. I think it's called the bark, the seasoned outside of the bbq. This place is a tiny little hidden gem. Every time we're here the food has never disappointed. The catfish is Delicious, nice meaty pieces, and not to be missed if you are a catfish fan. So many tasty choices on the menu. BBQ is top notch. Check out their specials board for exciting limited items. Still need to try the Lobster Roll Friday special. Going through Tehachapi, you have to stop off at the Red House BBQ. Eclectic and rustic this place is a BINGO. Counter ordering and then the staff delivers to the table. I had a half a rack of ribs, perfect amount for lunch, with delish slaw and side salad. The spicy sauce could've used more sauce for my hot palette. I didn't expect my food right away, but she told us 30 to 45 minutes and we still waited for over an hour and a half. If she had told us that we would've left. The people of Red House BBQ are so friendly and sweet! The owner is such a nice person, she sat and chatted with us a bit and made sure to wish us happy holidays on the way out. It's the people that really make a small business. Tehachapi is full of small businesses which I love as well. They are closed on Tuesdays, serve solid BBQ with beer & wine. Parking: Plenty in the lot behind the restaurant Seating: 8-10 indoor tables and I noticed an outdoor patio as well. Obviously too cold to enjoy that during the winter. The inside was interesting, had a waterfall in the corner which was kind of cool and random lol Food: It a walk up and order, sit down and wait for your food to come to the table kind of establishment. Homemade BBQ sauces on the table which included a gluten free spicy sauce which was yum. They offer beer on tap and wine as well Ranges from a la cart meats (2 Beef Ribs $20) to sandwiches ($15ish) which come with one side, meat plates that come with 2 sides ($15-$20) and a 2 combo meat plate with 2 sides ($15-$25). Unfortunately beef ribs aren't an option for the meat plates, those have to be a la cart, and they were out of them when we came in (which was heartbreaking!) Foods to take note: -Delicious Mac n cheese! -Pot beans reminded me of a chili. Very tasty but not your typical BBQ baked beans. -Tasty fried Okra! -Shredded beef was so good! Especially with their BBQ sauce on the table -OMG the hot links! Will be back for these! Sad the brisket was a tad on the tough side, don't think I would recommend this one but everything else was so great! For 3 people to eat a good amount of food, came out to $56. The people who work here are very nice and would happily support this place. Small businesses really are such a better experience across the board.
