My wife and I chowed in the Red House on our way to Vegas. As we walked in the place was fairly busy with customers enjoying their meals and others waiting for theirs. The smell of the smokers and smoked meats was fantastic! I ordered a brisket sandwich on brioche bun, it came with a piece of cornbread, and a small bag of chips. I also added a side of mac n cheese...because brisket with mac is a must. My food was awesomely deeelish! My wife ordered a smoked chicken cobb salad with cornbread on the side. Such an easy drive from Bakersfield. You totally NEED to make a stop here. I got the two meat plate. It probably could feed two people but I would just take home the leftovers and finish it for yourself. I've had it twice already as leftovers and it still tastes just as good. I got the brisket and trip tip. The tri tip was good but my favorite was the brisket. I would get double brisket it was that good. I think it's called the bark, the seasoned outside of the bbq. Holy. Smokes. For real, this is the holy grail of BBQ. My man got the pork ribs & they were sweet & delicious, meaty & just...chef's kiss. He was saying the cornbread was so soft & delicious. The chicken sandwich with a gluten free bun? I'm in HEAVEN. So thankful for this gluten free option. It means so much! The salad didn't skimp on the toppings whatsoever & everything was fresh & delightful. The owner was in & you could tell she knew what she was doing! This place was my top favorite bbq spot. they have changed some things since I've been in and it wasn't for the better. This time they had menus and a waiter. The waiter never refilled our drinks and our food took a little longer than other tables who ordered after us. We got our food and man.. the mac and cheese was like a paste and kinda warm , not the rich creamy gooey mac I remember. The pulled pork came with hardly any slaw on it and on a regular looking burger bun, not the old amazing roll they use to have. I couldn't upgrade my side either i was stuck with chips. I paid the $6 for the little side cup of mac. if I would have known I would have just skipped it. I don't think I will return. Sad day. read more

It's the people that really make a small business. Tehachapi is full of small businesses which I love as well. They are closed on Tuesdays, serve solid BBQ with beer & wine. Parking: Plenty in the lot behind the restaurant Seating: 8-10 indoor tables and I noticed an outdoor patio as well. Obviously too cold to enjoy that during the winter. The inside was interesting, had a waterfall in the corner which was kind of cool and random lol Food: It a walk up and order, sit down and wait for your food to come to the table kind of establishment. Homemade BBQ sauces on the table which included a gluten free spicy sauce which was yum. They offer beer on tap and wine as well Ranges from a la cart meats (2 Beef Ribs $20) to sandwiches ($15ish) which come with one side, meat plates that come with 2 sides ($15-$20) and a 2 combo meat plate with 2 sides ($15-$25). Unfortunately beef ribs aren't an option for the meat plates, those have to be a la cart, and they were out of them when we came in (which was heartbreaking!) Foods to take note: -Delicious Mac n cheese! -Pot beans reminded me of a chili. Very tasty but not your typical BBQ baked beans. -Tasty fried Okra! -Shredded beef was so good! Especially with their BBQ sauce on the table -OMG the hot links! Will be back for these! Sad the brisket was a tad on the tough side, don't think I would recommend this one but everything else was so great! For 3 people to eat a good amount of food, came out to $56. The people who work here are very nice and would happily support this place. Small businesses really are such a better experience across the board. If you're looking for some amazing solid bbq... make the drive to Red House BBQ in Tehachapi! The owner and staff are incredibly kind and the service is stellar. Indoor and outdoor seating, I always opt for outdoor with the lovely home style atmosphere and breeze. The patio is also pet friendly. We ordered a tri-tip plate & 2 item brisket and pulled pork plate.. comes with 2 sides each! I can't believe I finished all the tri-tip, but I did. Great stop before headed to Vegas. They have clean bathrooms too. All around amazing local stop. Maybe we will stop by to have the ribs. It's a very small space to the point where it almost feels cramped, especially if there's a bunch of people waiting in line, but there's definitely 'a homey feel' to it. It almost feels like a haberdashery. For such a small place, they have a pretty vast menu of different meat assortments such as tri-tip, ribs, chicken, pastrami, and fish options, like catfish and salmon. The prices are fair for the portions that you receive. You have to order in the front at the counter, like you're at a cafeteria, but once you pay, you sit down at a table. The servers were very young, but sweet and polite. The food itself was good, but there were a couple of food items that could've been tweaked in order to make them taste better. We had ordered a side of pot beans, but they were bland pinto beans instead of the baked beans that you usually get at a BBQ place. Took a trip to Tehachapi on the Harley and this is the first place you come to when approaching the town. We pulled in here as it had great curb appeal and we didn't want to waste time looking for a place to eat. There was plenty of places to park and both indoor and outdoor seating (more outdoor than indoor). Their menu is on a huge black board and you place your order at the register. They have fountain drinks and some beer. After you order, you get a number and sit wherever you want. There are different types of BBQ sauce in a condiment tray (Spicy, Mild & Smokey). I had the pulled pork and used the Smokey sauce. Hubby had a pastrami sandwich. Both were delicious and the service was great. A very small town cozy vibe. read more

We finally made it to Red House BBQ after hearing rave reviews for a long time. It was a Wednesday at 5pm and it was already busy but not overly packed. It exceeded our expectations! The exterior is charming & the interior is so fun. Laid back, casual place with a bit of kitsch and lots to look at on every wall. Bring a marker to add your name to their autograph wall. We got a table right away and had a server take our drink order quickly. Kids had the tri-tip plates with fries from the kids' menu, my husband had the pulled pork sandwich and I had the pulled chicken plate with bourbon yams. Everything was absolutely delicious!
