I've eaten in more restaurants than I can count thanks to work travel, and I've had Indian food from coast to coast. Somehow, one of the very best is hiding right here in little old Tehachapi. The chicken tikka masala is so good I'd consider putting it in a thermos and taking it on my next flight. The biryani? Let's just say if loving it is wrong, I don't want to be naan-right. Everything we've tried has been packed with flavor, perfectly cooked, and served with the kind of hospitality that makes you feel like you're eating at a friend's house--if your friend happened to be an incredible chef. Prime Bar & Grill may have "bar" in the name, but don't let that fool you. This place is quietly serving Indian food that could go toe-to-toe with restaurants in much bigger cities and come home wearing the championship belt. If you're driving through Tehachapi and skip this place, that's a curry-ous decision. Five stars. I'd give it six if they'd let me lick the tikka masala bowl in public. read more

An Indian restaurant in Tehachapi wouldn't be my first choice, but thanks to the outstanding reviews we stopped in here. My wife and I wanted a lighter lunch so we split the butter chicken and the spinach naan. All was excellent. Service was friendly, the restaurant was very clean and I'm sure the fireplace would lend a quaint atmosphere in the winter. An unassuming appearance, but fabulous Indian food. We had the rack of lamb, butter chicken, and garlic basil naan. Our desserts were Rasmalai and Gulab Jamun. Service here can sometimes be hit and miss. They have a variety of food options but I am inclined to express that the Indian food is of high quality and if you like Indian food come here. It is nice that my small town can offer a good quality Indian restaurant. Also nice that while I enjoy my spicy meal my husband can enjoy basic American fair and avoid Indian food as his digestive system is a bit more delicate. You can choose your level of spiciness so you don't feel the need to put out a blazing fire in your mouth if you are not up for that level of adventure. read more

Not entirely sure but it looks like it could be the only Indian food restaurant in town. It has two separate spaces - the pub and the restaurant. The restaurant is spacious, relaxing, and has a fireplace, maintaining a warm atmosphere. We were immediately asked if this was our first time, and then provided some recommendations. Food came fairly quickly - maybe a 15min wait. Server was attentive to the ongoing need for water (that's what happens when ordering the hottest level of spice). Many reviews on here talked about the chicken tikka masala - I agree with the positive comments. It was delicious. The portions are large because I was able to have two full plates and still take a lot home. Just one word of warning: be prepared to suffer if picking the hottest level of spice! read more

This review is on my hubby's and son's experience. They enjoyed their food as usual. My hubby ordered me Butter Chicken and Naan. My son and hubby ordered their dishes. Mine didn't come out with theirs, so it was forgotten. It was busy tonight because not many places were open. We asked about my dish, and she said she would order it and it would take 10-15 minutes. My guys ate their food by the time my dish came. When it was set on the table, it was definitely not what I had in the past. I put one on my plate and it was stuffed with what I later found out from server what it was. She explained I wanted the Chicken Tikki Masala. My guys were already done eating. I said forget it, I was not wanting them to wait another 15 minutes. So I didn't eat tonight. What was brought to me did not look appealing. I waited all day for this meal, It's been a hot minute since we have been here. The guys enjoyed their dishes. My server apologized about the mistake. My friends and I came here to celebrate a birthday. It was my first time here! I have never really had real Indian food before, so this was my first legit experience. The staff were nice and helpful, and the inside was nice. I ordered the butter chicken and rice, which was so good! I got the spice level 3, which wasn't too spicy, but had a nice kick to it. For an appetizer I got the Onion Pakora which was also amazing, especially that little green sauce that came on the side (idk what it's called.) My boyfriend got the goat vindaloo, which was decent. We found this on our drive home. Had been craving Indian food for a while and was excited to stop in after seeing the reviews. The service here was top notch and I was not expecting to find this level of service in Tehachapi. The food was excellent. The portions were nice. We shared the chicken, garlic naan, vegetable pakora, and rice. Even though we shared we had a lot of food left over. All of the items tasted excellent. We've been on the road for over a week, and let me tell you, there are only so many fresco-style bean burritos from Taco Bell and Impossible Whoppers from Burger King a person can take. I ordered the Aloo Matar (potatoes and peas in curry sauce), and it was absolutely delicious. Just a heads-up: when they say "spicy," they mean it. To be honest, I thought I didn't like this type of food and was hesitant to try it but I was wrong and I am so glad I decided to try! The staff is wonderful and went out of their way to make us at home. I asked if I could see a real tandoori oven and they were very welcoming and let me see it! My coworker and I got a special kitchen tour from the staff to show us how they made our meal. It was fun and educational! I ordered the chicken tikka masala with the four cheese naan bread while my coworker ordered the Baingan Bharta (eggplant). Everything was amazing! If you are new to Indian food this is a great place to try! I was and the waiter was very helpful in finding things for my husband and I. It's really nice atmosphere, great for date night! We had garlic and basil naan, chicken naan, samosas with mint and tamarind sauce, paneer, and lamb biryani. Why more than enough food to take home, but we were excited to taste different things. Will definitely be back once the food coma wears off! The waiter helped me find a dish that was not spicy, still had lots of flavor, but wasn't too intense. The paneer was delicious! We dropped by during our road trip for lunch! We got seated immediately. The ambiance is boring, big party-size hall with tables and chairs. They also have a bar next to the restaurant. For a party of 5, we got goat and chicken curry, chai, daal fry, 2 tandoori roti, and rice. The portion sizes were good. The daal didn't have enough salt, the chicken curry was decent, but the goat curry was below average, and the chai was just bad! Having said that, the service was fast and nice. Also, we were surprised to see gratuity already added to the bill! They also charged us for a side of onion and chillis. Usually in Indian restaurants, a side of raw onion, lemon, and chili is given with entrees! Going with 2 stars for the fast service. The food didn't impress us at all. I been coming to this place for years and always had a great experience. The was always great fast service, great food. But unfortunately this time around was not very good. I could honestly be safe to say that I entirely blamed my waitress. She was new as I have never seen her before. She was older with a neat bun. She wasnt very friendly to anyone at the table for starters. And when me and my husband ordered our food it was wrong. We were really specific about what we wanted and double kade sure when she repeated back to us our order. We relieved our order it was spicy i couldn't even eat it. Same with my husband's. Since we were on a lunch break and she didnt even come back to check on us once, we couldnt even get our food fixed. Not once did she come to refill our drinks, we had to physically stop her and ask FOUR SEPARATE TIMES for to-go boxes because we were very obviously done eating for well over 15 mins at that point. She very obviously doesn't care about her job here and how she portrays her attitude towards customers. Wont be coming back for a bit. Hopefully she gets herself straight or at least leaves before we come back again. read more
