Quail Run Ranch is a unique and one-of-a-kind ostrich farm that is basically out in the middle of…read morenowhere. You might not realize how huge and dangerous some of these birds really are, but they average about 9 feet to 12 feet tall and from 250 to 350 pounds. And, they can be quite deadly. During the mating season, the males will instantly try to attack you if you get close. They've got about 6 to 10 different ostriches in separate fenced off areas. If you pay a few dollars for a tour, they will walk you down and show you the different ostriches they have, as well as provide some pretty interesting ostrich facts. Their feet are crazy as they are the only two toed bird on earth. Looking at them it is easy to see how they are related to dinosaurs because it looks just like a dinosaur foot. You can also buy ostrich eggs if they have them available, which are equal to about 24 to 36 eggs. The flavor and consistency is actually pretty good as well and very similar to chicken eggs. They also sell honey and a bunch of other things. Also, in certain times of year, you can go and see the baby ostrich chicks that they raise. If you're feeling adventurous, this is definitely worth a trip, especially if you have kids. This has become a fun stop we started making on our annual visit to the California Poppy Preserve in Antelope Valley. I would call ahead and see what's going on with tours and everything else. Five stars.

The property owners were really easy going about parking, shoot times, leaving stuff overnight, running generators all day long, etc. They even helped us flip a car for a shot! They were very accommodating and helpful. The property is sort of on the side of a mountain that overlooks the valley and has gorgeous views. There are hotels and restaurants in town nearby if you have a multi-day shoot. We definitely recommend this location! It has everything you'd need for a shoot out in the high desert!

They had samples of their varieties of olive oil and balsamic. The olive oil is what they create right next door. Kelly helped us out and we got to have samples with little pieces of bread. I forgot the exact names, but I tried the olive oil "with a little spice and kick" and the olive oil that "was like butter". Both were so good- but my absolute favorite was LIKE BUTTER, she was Not wrong. It's hard to find good quality olive oil that you could just sip on for nutrients if you wanted to. But the best part was pairing the olive oil with the balsamic. They imported it straight from Italy. It was like dessert (in the best way possible). I bought some candles, coffee, pastries, and hair accessories. We went inside the building and it was so gorgeous ! Everyone is so nice and lovely. Also, this place has some of the most beautiful horses I have ever seen as well. this ranch is very beginner friendly as well. this was probably my third time in my life riding on a horse. Never has my nervous system been as calm as when I got the chance to consistently be around horses. I am honoured to have been able to work beside Michael and learn from his experiences in horsemanship. In my eyes it was truly an enriching experience to see how we can teach a horse to trust again through consistent presence, training and care. Overall working with the animals and Michael has helped me attain much confidence in my abilities. Hopefully I'll come back in the near future.
